Great for sports games! Lots of TVs!
Nicole A.

I haven't tried the food yet, so this review is strictly based on the bar. The first time I came here I thought it was ehhh. The place was dead (on a weekend night) and it just seemed like a dull bar. But after coming a second time, I noticed what's so great about this bar. First off, there's plenty of TV's so it's a great spot to watch sports games. Especially if you live nearby and don't want to trek to Washington St. There's a dart board and a pool table so when it's not so crowded this is actually a great bar to chill and hang out at. The bartender/manager/owner (not sure which he was) was a really cool guy. Definitely plan to come here more often. They also have some great live music pretty often I hear.

Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap - A disposable aluminum plate holds a crispy chicken Caesar wrap, cut in half to reveal lettuce, chicken, and Caesar dressing inside a toasted wrap. Next to the wrap are seasoned French fries with visible herbs and spices, accompanied by a small clear plastic container of red dipping sauce. The plate is placed on a surface with a black and white houndstooth pattern, and part of a laptop keyboard is visible in the background.

One of the best chicken caesar wraps I've had! Super filling and flavorful. 10/10 recommend

Wings!
Michelle C.

One word: WINGS! This is the only reason why I come to Willies. This is one of my favorite wings place in hoboken (toss up with Johnny pepperoni). Yes the bar is dark but it does not bother me. I'm here to watch games, eat wings, and drink beers so the dark bar actually works for me. I can't comment on the bar scene as I don't frequent here for the bar scene. Their sports bar theme is A+.

Do not put your credit card down at this place. The bartenders charged over $600 in fake tabs on my card. EXTREMELY DISHONEST!

Since my last visit, I had only ventured there once for a drink, but it had been far from a first choice. I loved that they had live music and a casual vibe, but my past culinary experience had been a letdown. However, I was very pleasantly surprised on my recent excursion. We grabbed seats at the rustic bar and enjoyed friendly service and pints of Kane Head High, my favorite beer. The crisp, refreshing brew went well with my cup of Chicken Noodle Soup. While that might sound like an odd "snack", I selected it because it was one of the few appetizers on the menu that was not fried. The broth seemed to interestingly be made of tomatoes and potentially other vegetables. It was packed with large, spiral noodles, shredded chicken, and fresh spinach. It was an interesting rendition for sure, but it was also very tasty, despite the fact that it was rather greasy. I was also bummed that it did not have more chicken and that it had not been served with any crackers. Oh well! Overall, it at least had left me with a much better impression than my last trip had.

Who's up a for a little culture war? As one of what David Hyde Pierce called the "nerdy indoor…read morekids," I realize I've been gaslighted for decades by the jocks. A mid-80s Mets obsessive who yearns for the days of Mookie Wilson and Bob Murphy, I haven't kept up with baseball so much in recent years. That all-star game tie and DH in the NL didn't appeal to me so much. Game 7 of the World Series provided an opportunity for me to be a "normal American" and watch the game at the bar. But I didn't want to buy $80 of drinks so I figured I'd try for inning 6 and beyond and get the finale. So the plan was Cork City for part and maybe another for the ending. The game was on many TVs, caught that cool double play. The sound was on but the talking kind of drowned it out, which seemed less than ideal. However, after I left, none of the 30-ish bars I walked past even had the sound on! So much for all the "sports bars" in this town. (To be fair: it was Halloween weekend, and business decisions to appeal to 20-something women in lingerie and their admirers may have been a factor). After going to 14th and back I was ready to enjoy extra innings at Cork City. But they were at capacity. Game Over. Yes, I'm copping to my inexperience in Hoboken bar-going. Turns out Cork City offered the best baseball experience in town. As for the bar itself, I enjoyed the Peach Fuzz cider from Pennings. The service was friendly. I'll try again on an off-peak night. My plan didn't work out but at least I got some steps in and learned that many sports fans are liars.

I am not a beer drinker but they have such an extensive list, I usually always find a sour that I actually love. On my visit over the weekend (3 of us plus a pup) I got the Peach Ring Sour. SO good. They have plenty of tables inside and out, and you can even bring in in food from elsewhere. It really is the easiest, most casual, comfortable bar in town.

There was only one other family dining, and the space stayed empty the entire time. The service was genuinely great. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and a really cute, cozy space. I especially loved the Christmas décor and overall vibe--it felt warm and inviting. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the prices. The house salad was $13 and honestly one of the most basic, smallest, and most boring salads I've ever had--very underwhelming for the cost. We also ordered quesadillas, a cheeseburger with fries, and grilled cheese with tomato soup. My son enjoyed the burger and fries, and the quesadillas were flavorful, generously filled with chicken and veggies, and came with sour cream, pico, and guac. The tomato soup was tasty, while the grilled cheese was just okay. One small but appreciated detail: canned soda. Cold, crisp, and not flat which is always a win. Lunch for 3 came in just under $100, which felt high given what we received. One frustration was being seated in a tight corner right next to the kitchen even though the dining room was completely empty. We were so close I could literally see into the kitchen and count items on the shelves. On top of that, the hostess repeatedly walked by calling out "corner," which became distracting and honestly a bit irritating. Overall, I liked the vibe, but the food-to-price ratio missed the mark for me. It wasn't bad--just alright.

If you had any question that this place is an Irish pub, you will receive the answer with a big Irish and Jameson flag draped proudly as you enter the bar. In addition to their Irish heritage, The Shannon is also a great sports bar and dance club. We love that leashed and friendly dogs are allowed, but only before the night life begins, so get there when they open to enjoy a drink from their full bar, play pool, watch the game, bring your own food, and meet some super cool people. There is a space up front with one bar and a back room with another bar, so plenty of space to enjoy some dog friendly fun! We love that there were a few other dogs enjoying New Years celebrations and it makes us happy that they all met at a local dog park. The staff is great and always checking-in. When you get inside, it has a bar in the front and huge dancefloor in the back with a live DJ performing. The bartenders serve pretty quickly, but that may be due to people not buying drinks frequently or a result of the young crowd that is typically here. They started tacking on a fee for credit card payments also. So, you might want to go with cash. Overall, the Shannon is a good party option if you like Hip Hop and are cool with the young and hood crowd. However, since they charge a bunch of fees that other bars in Hoboken don't it loses stars - after all, it's just a dive bar. If you are willing to pay a big cover, then you may as well go to Birch - the only club in the area - and enjoy a nicer ambiance. Learn more on my blog at www.alwaysthevip.com/blog/
