Happy Hour menu at Williamson Wines in Healdsburg.
Jason F.

Welcome to Williamson Wines, where they espouse, "Where every glass holds a story and every bite is a journey." With this wonderful concept in mind, a fellow lover of wine and food and I took a journey to the Williamson Wines tasting room on a recent sunny weekend afternoon ready to try some of the most sumptuous French Style California Wines sourced from a wide variety of vineyards stretching from the Russian River Valley all the way to the Alexander Valley. Williamson Wines was one of the only wineries to have two wine tasting rooms in the city of Healdsburg as recently as last year they operated a second wine tasting room mere blocks away on Matheson Street in downtown Healdsburg, which closed late in 2024. Now with this one tasting room location still around, along with their own restaurant nearby that serves a four course lunch on Fridays, Williamson Wines still manages to showcase some of the best tasting wines while pairing them with familiar yet unique food pairings, of which we were able to try their wine and cheese tasting. For 25 dollars a person, we let the crew at Williamson Wines guide us through five of the top wines they produce through their many vineyards and pairing them with artisanal cheeses, preserves and salts that they sell at the Williamson Wines tasting room. After choosing to sit at their bar, our tasting room associate Tom made sure we were greeted with a splash of their 2024 Fizz Sparkling White Wine which was paired with generous cuts of white stilton cheese with bits of mango and ginger mixed in. Although on the drier side, this Blanc De Blanc was nicely light and refreshing sparkling wine was the perfect way to start our cheese and wine pairing as it was on the drier side when it comes to sparkling white wines. For our second pour we enjoyed their 2023 Chantilly Chardonnay, which was paired with a slide of Irish Cheddar topped with a slice of bread and butter pickle. This new pairing just recently selected by owner Dawn Williamson was a whole new tasting experience for the both of us as the salty brine of the pickle was enhanced with every sip of oaky Chardonnay. Although I am personally not a huge pickle fan, I became one thanks to the perfect cheese and pickle combination. For our third pour, we enjoyed their 2023 Adore Rosé Wine of Grenache, which was paired with their Gouda Cheese topped with their own Truffle Cheese Salt combination. So successful are their salts and spices that they actually sell them by the jar at Williamson Wines. This Rosé is nicely balanced when paired with a block of cheese topped with a generous amount of this special salt. For our fourth wine tasting, we enjoyed one winemaker Bill Williamson's signature wines, in their 2022 Entice Cuvée, which was paired with slices of the salami encased in cracked black pepper. A combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and three Bordeaux varieties, this lovely wine can easily be paired with any spicy or hearty dish, bringing out the flavor in both. For our fifth and final pairing, we enjoyed a pour of their 2023 Scandal Zinfandel Wine, which was paired with a nice soft Kerrygold cheese topped with a dollop of their Hot Pepper Bacon Jam, of which they also sell in a jar here at Williamson Wines. A nice powerful wine, which was a nice way to end our tasting, it only made me hungry for more wine and food pairings. With cooking videos being played on a giant television screen with easy to follow recipes from their Chef de Cuisine, Williamson Wines offers up both food and cooking accouterments to pair with any meal. With two wine and cheese pairing that came to $54.88 which was 25 dollars a person and included sales tax, my wine tasting friend and both got caught up and purchased other items including their Smokey Onion Mustard and their Truffle Cheese Salt which would come to an additional $42.00. Williamson Wines truly nails the perfect balance of mood and food! Their wine and cheese pairings are absolutely incredible as they were thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The staff make the experience both fun and educational, and the downtown Healdsburg location couldn't be more convenient. If you love great wine, delicious bites, and warm hospitality, this is a must-visit!

Came here for a tasting from Groupon with my partner. It was a food and wine pairing. I would say portions closer to a light snack vs full meal like others. Would still recommend as pairings were well thought through.

Wildhaven sonoma recommended williamson wines and they did not disappoint!! The staff members are all very attentive. I'm not too knowledgeable about wines. I just know what tastes good to me. They take a lot of time to explain things and really focus on making great pairings with food/ wine. We started off with the wine and cheese pairing. We really liked every thing they gave us. I personally hate pickles but they gave a cheese with a pickle on it and I was so surprised that I liked it with the wine. It also happened to be happy hour. After our wine and cheese pairing, we had a generous pour, pop corn, chips, shrimp cocktail and a slider. It was a great deal. We can't wait to come back.

My first wine tasting and it was my sister's birthday! The walkthrough and explanation was so helpful for a wine noob like me. For each wine, we were given food to pair with it. The service was so good and our server gave us a lot of tips and answered our questions. I think I'm kind of bad at understanding flavors but the experience taught me a lot about it! The interior was clean and pretty with a lot of natural light.

I've spent a lot of time in this area and this was by far the best wine and cheese pairing I've EVER had. George, and his wiley ways, was our wine /cheese server. He could do a master class in how to connect with customers. He wowed us with his knowledge of the wine and winemaking process, as well as the best way to eat the cheese with the wine. Again, never have I ever had an experience like this. I can not even do it justice by explaining it. You just have to experience it. Ask for George. You won't regret it!

I've been so fortunate to be invited twice to Williamson Wines pick up party. The most recent was this month, December. They sure know how to welcome you. Each of their wines was paired with a small plate created by their in-house chef. The table is set with all the right stemware & accouterments highlighting the various wines that were served. Of course this was a very merry time just right for the holidays but they have a large selection of wines to try and of course to take home. Its in a beautiful room, with plenty of tables all filled with members thoroughly enjoying themselves and the owner, Dawn Williamson was there to show her appreciation of her guest and speak about her passion for winemaking.

From ambiance, to wine tasting, to customer service this place is an easy 5/5. The wine's themselves are unique as are their pairings of cheese, condiments, & salts. We ended up buying their caramelized onion mustard, pink salt & truffle Parmesan salt. Will definitely be back, cheers!

Love love Williamson. Their pick-up parties are one of a kind that makes your membership worthwhile! From the yummy pairings, to the tentative host and servers as well as the chef! Always such a wonderful experience at Williamson!

We had a great wine and food pairing experience with our wine educator Joe. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and not Pushy about the wine club or about purchasing wines. He gave us the facts we needed so we could confir and make a personal Decision. The chef selected food paired with each wine was delicious. Props to the chef and wine makers. We appreciate learning the wines are made organically. The ambiance was comfortable and not pretentious at all. We felt Comfortable in our elevated track suits on a brisk Feb day. We definitely will return and tell others about the experience.

The vibe was inviting and family friendly. There was a cozy fireplace in the front as well. We ordered a glass of Lyra Pinot Noir and a glass of Aries Chardonnay. My Pinot Noir was smooth while the wifey's Chardonnay was crisp and refreshing. The wine was great quality. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Marine Layer Wines. The staff was nice and helpful. Everyone sat at one very long table, in our individual groups/pairs, right next to where they store their wines in casks. Each course was paired with a wine, as wine tastings tend to do -- but in this case, each course was also accompanied by a soprano who sang an well-known aria she selected that she felt complimented the course. The food was excellent, served family style: Lemon ricotta pancakes, roasted potatoes, eggs in purgatory, a burrata and arugula salad, and an apple tart for dessert. It sounds like a ton of food -- but since we could self serve, it wasn't overwhelming. The team there introduced each wine -- and could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I highly recommend attending this brunch event -- a real treat and beautiful way to enjoy a weekend!

By the end of the tasting we had talked about wine, food, music, documentaries, and much more. Mark made it feel like we were all siting around the kitchen table just talking about wine and life. I liked this setting (one group at a time with 100% participation) much more enjoyable than most other wineries we visited which have more of a bar/restaurant feeling where the server would just pour your tasting, give you the one sentence blurb they learned about it and then disappearing to help other tables for 10-15 minutes until it was time for your next pour. We started the tasting with their "White Wine" and Viognier. We then moved on to the reds including Pinot, Zin, Merlot, Malbec and Cab. They were all very well made and quite tasty. Ended up purchasing 3 bottles to go and a membership to be shipped later in the year. I'd definitely recommend others putting Blanchard on their list of places to visit in Healdsburg. Appointments are needed as Mark only does one group's tasting at a time.

If you had told me two years ago that I would confidently navigate a wine list or casually discuss soil types and native fermentation, I would have laughed. When I first walked into Lioco Tasting Room, I genuinely could not tell you whether I preferred white or red. Joining their wine club has since become one of the best investments I have made, not only in my wine knowledge, but in my social life. Lioco is the definition of thoughtful, terroir driven winemaking. Their wines lean fresh, vibrant, and balanced, with a restraint that feels very intentional. Nothing feels over extracted or manipulated. There is a purity to the fruit and a transparency to the vineyard sites that makes every tasting feel educational without ever feeling pretentious. The price point is also remarkably accessible for the level of quality they are pouring, which makes exploring their lineup feel exciting rather than intimidating. What sets this tasting room apart, though, is the people. Michael has been instrumental in helping me understand the why behind the wine, from farming practices and harvest decisions to fermentation and élevage. There is a genuine openness to sharing knowledge here. Questions are welcomed. Curiosity is encouraged. You never feel talked down to, only invited deeper. Over the past year as a member, I have watched myself grow up in my palate. I have learned what I gravitate toward and why. I have discovered that I love a coastal Chardonnay with tension and minerality, and that a light bodied Pinot with vibrant acidity can be more compelling than something heavy and oaky. That confidence now follows me everywhere. Any restaurant wine list feels approachable. Beyond the wine, Lioco is building something rare, real community. Their pickup parties feel more like gatherings of friends than transactional club events. Their Metiche pop up was a creative and intimate experience that remains one of my favorites. I have walked into events knowing only one person and left with new friends. That says everything. The space itself matches the vibe. In warmer months, there is nothing better than enjoying a glass of Estero on the patio. When it is raining, the bar becomes cozy and warm, often with records spinning in the background. It feels equal parts refined and relaxed, serious about wine but never judgmental. I have brought countless friends here for comprehensive tastings, and more than a few have ended up joining the club themselves. That, to me, is the strongest endorsement.
