Five of us shared a bottle of Spicy's Joie de Vivre Los Carneros Chardonnay 2017. Chardonnay is my favorite white wine. This one was balanced but nothing noteworthy for me. I prefer more oaky and buttery. We did enjoy sitting on the couches though, plus reviewing their award-winning medals, the latest wins in 2024 for Cabernet Sauvignon. read more

I stumbled upon Spicy Vines in 2014 on the Healdsburg Food & Wine Walking tour (which I highly recommend!!) I purchased it on a Groupon for my mom for Mother's Day and we made various stops along the Healdsburg square. Our final stop was at Spicy Vines, which was absolutely delightful, and their spiced wine was delectable!! Since then I've tried to come at least once a year and stock up on the spiced wine (my favorite, and very reasonably priced at $38/bottle for the BEST wine you will ever have!) I've recently moved to North Marin and am so excited that I can now frequent Spicy Vines on a regular basis :) The owners and staff are family and are all so sweet and welcoming!! The live music Saturdays are a MUST -- the vibe is extra lively then. The spiced wine is fantastic hot, cold, or room temperature, and it's served all three ways at the tasting room. On our first visit to Healdsburg we decided to do a wine and food walking tour. Spicy Vines was the last of the 3 tasting rooms we visited. We walked in and were immediately greeted by Declan the friendly and affable host. He was expert at describing the wines we tasted. We came to find out that Declan is a Shakespearean actor. Which he obviously uses to great effect at the tasting room. We enjoyed all of the wines we tasted and found out the reason for the name, Spicy Vines is because the owner likes to make a wine that reminds her of mulled wine from Europe. We also tried their Brandy and absolutely loved it. Before we left I noticed they had a Grappa for sale. We weren't able to taste it but since their wines and Brandy had been so good I decided to pick up a bottle when Declan told me it was Cabernet based. I opened it up when we got home and it was amazing. Grappa can be pretty bitter and harsh but theirs was pretty smooth. So our visit to Spicy Vines was exceptional and I would certainly visit again. read more

Where do I even begin? The food? The wine? The service? The ambience... You get the point. Everything about this place is five star. Doug the owner and wine maker is a genuine soul and you can feel his personality come through in his food and in his wine. My group and I discovered this place while on a tour (Wine Country Walking tours which I highly recommend as well) it was our last stop on the tour and we loved it so much we decided to stay, hang out order more food and more wine and we had the most incredible time. This little gem is about a block off of the healdsburg square. What a great find for our last tasting of the day. Spicy vines founder Crystalyn welcomed us despite the time being not long before closing. It was just our luck that she had a bunch of wine open! She guided us through an enjoyable tasting in their comfy room. Wow. Kudos to winemaker Doug! What great wines to mirror the open and welcoming hospitality! Depending on your palate, this winery has a little of something for everyone. Quite unexpectedly, we all purchased their spiced wine! Delicious! Not the typical mediocre, high alcohol sangria or mulled wine. A nice chai explosion for your palate! Apparently, their chai candle comes out around the holidays!!! Our faves were the rose of syrah and syrah! But also loved their chard, pinot noir, and Rhett red! What a beautiful, relaxing experience. Though Declan went off script to meet our preferences each description was excitingly animated and well constructed. It was greatly appreciated that he tailored a simple tasting to our personal presences and made it interactive and plenty of fun. Their roses were excellent, especially the 2021. I had a wonderful and memorable experience visiting Spicy Vines all thanks to Doug! The room itself was spacious which I liked a lot - there were options to sit on the couches to lounge or have a seat at one of the hightop tables in the middle. They have both a white & red flight. My cousin and I tried the red flight - mainly Cabs and Zins (not my go to for reds). That being said, I did enjoy drinking them based off of how Doug described each wine he served us because as soon as I took a sip I could taste each flavor distinctly - perfect to enjoy with a nice steak! I was especially surprised with the Zin Master Zinfandel - interesting and delicious! This place definitely lives up to their name. Great place to chill with some wine! read more

Stop #2 of our wine tour around Santa Rosa. We received a local tip about Healdsburgs being a "Playground for Wine Enthusiasts" since the wine bars and restaurants were open later than most wineries on any given Sunday, so we had to go check it out. Spicy Vines showed up on our radar since there were small bites to keep us in check until dinner and it was open a little later than others in the area. With a group of eight, there was plenty of space available to accommodate us. Upon get entrance, the bar is to the right, the middle has a few communal barstool tables and along the wall to the left were comfy couches. We ended up taking over the corner couch to the left since it could seat all of us comfortably where we were facing each other. The bar also supplied a few games and cards to keep it social amongst friends. Since we were new to the area, we started with wine flight ($12/each). I chose the second option, which featured a Chardonnay, "In Memory" Counoise (a special blend in tribute to the late co-founder), Zinfandel and their Spicy Vines Original Blend. With each pour, a few facts were shared about the wines such as tasting profiles and production. I probably enjoyed the Chardonnay for its refreshing qualities followed by their Original Blend since it tasted like Christmas. In addition to the wine, our group shared a cheese plate. You get a selection of three cheeses, two meats (prosciutto & salami) and the perfect accoutrements (honeycomb, dried fruits and almonds) to pair. It was beautifully presented and the honeycomb is locally produced. One of girls in our group loved it so much that our server said you can find it SHED, a local market a few blocks down. Overall, it's a pretty low-key tasting room. I didn't get a chance to view the rest of their offerings, but the wine flight selections shows that there was a nice variety between the two. Every single person here is absolutely incredible. I have been to this tasting room many times, and gotten the chance to have a 1 on 1 conversation with Doug, Crystalyn, Kylie, and Hannah! All of them are wonderful. Doug the wine maker does a GREAT job and is really passionate about what he does at spicy vines. Really special they do a MEAD ( honey wine ) and also a special wine that they actually add spices to, hence SPICY vines. Not to mention they have little snacks on their menu incase you are craving a little nibble with you wine. Late night music on Tuesdays and Saturdays are a huge plus and a great chill space to hang out at. Grab a glass, or a wine cocktail the possibilities are endless. We weren't expecting much from a little tasting room in Healdsburg but, boy, were we surprised! The owners' son served us (I am so sorry to have forgotten his name!) and totally made our day! The wines are fun and surprisingly good - we actually left with some whites and we aren't really white drinkers. Delicious Spicy Red Wine For A Multitude of Palates! SITREP Crystalline & Anders have a great wine operation going on here in Napa on the Silverado Trail. Their wine is at once accessible, flexible and can be tailored to meet a lot of different kinds of beverage needs. THE SETUP I first became aware of this wine-branding when I ran across the lovely Janka at an event in Oakland, where she had a table set-up with the Spicy Vines wine and I've been a fan of this unique blend since. THE WINE The wine is a fruitful blend of Zinfandel, Syrah & Petit Syrah. These just happen to be three (3) awesome varietals that I really enjoy (since I'm not really a Cab fan- sorry). But it doesn't stop there... The wine is also delicately spiced, which gives it an extra kick that makes the sipping so very enjoyable. I've been able to partake of this winsome blend in one of 3 ways: (1) The wine itself, poured into a glass at room temperature, aerated, and sipped to maxiumum enjoyment! (2) More so during the holidays, warmed up gently in a crock pot as a mulled wine, where the sipping takes you to another level, and where the heated up spicy undertone opens up your olfactories like nobody's business, and warms you up to delightful effect!; and, (3) As a chilled beverage, like a version of Sangria where thrown into a crystalline jug along with some gin (I prefer the "Sloe Gin" from Spirits Work Distillery in Sebastopol) add in fruit over ice and *Wa-La!*, you have a powerful reason to sit on your patio and watch the sunset set! APPOINTMENTS ON WEEKEND Unlike bigger establishments, you will need to call ahead and make an appointment if planning to stop in Napa on a Weekend. I spent a lovely afternoon listening to live music, enjoying their Zin Master zinfandel, and loving the friendly and comfortable vibe. It is truly a family business, and the great flavor of the wine reflects the care they take in everything they do. It is a small and very comfortable tasting room. Customer service is top notch. I enjoyed the pesto, provolone and prosciutto panini. We spent a lot of time last summer going to wineries that our visitors chose. I wish I knew about Spicy Vines then! I'll be back soon. We were trying to stick to tasting rooms so we can easily walk around downtown from our hotel and don't have to worry about driving , and made reservations at a few places .. I started with a spritz and my husband started with wine tasting, I quickly realized I should have done the tasting as well because he liked the wines so much. The tasting was priced better than most other places and the wines were far superior. The zinfandel was our favorite and we got a bottle and spent an additional hour enjoying it with the delicious panini. Highly recommend Spicy vines and hope to return soon. read more

I had a wonderful opportunity to visit this place because they participated in the Wine Road Barrel Tasting Event 2017. Located in a beautiful town. Their location is perfect for a group of friends. Intimate, relaxing, and has some sexy spiciness to it. Customer service was very kind and welcoming. One of their spicy wine would actually be perfect to be drink warm. Brings the holiday flavors to your mouth! The aroma and the taste is literally like Christmas. I've had this type of wine before from my German friend and it really brought beautiful memories. The wine was heated on the stove and we had it over the fire place and enjoyed winter with our families. The barrel tasting was tucked away in this cozy room. Display of old vines was a nice touch. They pay alot of attention to details. What's in the barrel? Petite Syrah. Very smooth and lovely! My friends enjoyed this winery. We visited for the first time almost 2 weeks ago. We really enjoyed our visit. The tasting room was very comfortable and the service was excellent. We went on a Saturday afternoon and were able to make same-day reservations. We bought their Chardonnay that I think she said is aged part of the time in oak and part in steel, so it had some of the butter but not too much. And we loved the Dragon's Kiss and bought that as well. Prices are pretty standard for that area in my experience. read more

This is literally the only place you can find a Spiced Wine which is made in the fashion of a mulled wine and it's quite tasty. They also have snacks and music on the weekends. Not being familiar with the town of Healdsburg, except for the exceptional known brewery nearby, I came upon this winery by chance at the Wanderlust festival held in Squaw Valley last year. That is where I got to try the most amazing and intriguing wines that has left me wanting more. Fast forward, not nearly a year later after following them through social media they finally open up their tasting room and I made the drive, met up with a friend and gave this place a try knowing good and well my mind was set on the spiced blend. The tasting room and space itself is very warm and inviting. Decor is bright and eclectic which seems to fit the personalities of the staff. The staff is engaging, energetic and excited when describing their wines. I could not get enough of it as well as the wines. Oh, the wines! My absolute favorites would have to be the Chardonnay and their spiced blend but all the wines we tasted had a unique character that I could take note of and enjoy. They were all pretty fun.
