We stopped in for a wine tasting flight at vml on a rainy afternoon last week. It's a very cute tasting room in downtown Healdsburg off the square. We enjoyed two chardonnays and three Pinot noirs. All of them were very nice wines and some were exquisite! Our server and guide was very knowledgeable, which isn't always the case. So kudos to him! I recommend trying VML. We've visited this winery many times over the years, they've moved into downtown Healdsburg. It's a lovely location, we recently went to the new location. I can only say it's pretty roomy and certainly has all the same lovely people. I always enjoy seeing those happy, friendly faces that I'm so used to seeing. For our first visit to VML, we were able to experience their Valentine's Day Menu. For $25, you were able to sample five flights which included two whites and three reds. They specialize in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They were a little busy so service was not the best but we did really enjoy two particular flights. The Rose of Pinot Noir was very light, refreshing and tangy. Great for a summer afternoon or on a warm day. We also really enjoyed the Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Definitely a MUST VISIT when in Dry Creek Valley, and ESPECIALLY if you are a true lover of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay! You will be absolutely blown away by the wines here. Like, literally BLOWN AWAY! We loved every single wine that we tasted. EVERY single one. Even my super critical and boughie friends fell in love with the wine here, and the harshest critic ended up joining their membership right on the spot! Yes, yes ladies and gents... the wine is just so amazing here. We visited VML during the WineLove Weekend tasting event, and they hands down had the best wines out of the 5 wineries that we tried (even better than their highly acclaimed sister winery, Truett Hurst right next door). Their estate is absolutely gorgeous! VML shares an estate with their sister winery Truett Hurst which is right next door, but the vibes at VML are way more mellow and relaxing. I'd like to think of VML as more of a country style tasting experience whereas Truett Hurst is more conventional. Both wineries are amazing in their own right, but you can definitely tell the difference in the experiences between the two. When you walk out to their back patio, you'll be greeted by their beautiful gardens and countryside views. They had a large covered tent where they were conducting their tastings. Very casual but also super comfortable. You can walk around and explore their colorful gardens or take your glass and sip on that delicious wine as you lay back on one of their lawn chairs. I'm telling you; this is a winery for pure relaxations. No frills; just good wine and total comfort. We were hosted by Larry and this man was such a hoot! The tasting started out a little dry, but then he warmed up to us and really let his personality shine through. We LOVED tasting with him! He was just super fun. I should probably mention that the pours are rather.... generous here. This is not the place for those who can't handle their wine. Just sayin'. I consider myself a bit of a wine pro at this point, and my tolerance level is a lot higher than most (not proud of it, but I do loves me some good wine). However, this place.... yeah. They know how to hook it up :). Okay, so about those wines; phenomenal. Straight up. Literally some of the best Pinot Noirs that I've tasted in Dry Creek Valley. Their Pinots are supple, super soft on the palate, fruity, and have a wonderful velvety finish. Just all around well-balanced Pinots. The kind of wine that you can sip on no matter what the occasion is. It was literally singing musicals to my palate. Loved them so much. Their Sun Chardonnay was the perfect mixture of tropical, crisp, and refreshing. Even my Chardonnay despising friend loved this Chardonnay, and that's really saying. A LOT! We wine tasted at Truett Hurst (VML's sister winery). After that we decided to see if VML had any openings for walk in tastings. Kevin was very friendly and helpful. He was able to accommodate us (it was a busy day) and even moved us to a nicer outdoor table. I left my hat behind and when I called the winery, Stephanie let me know they had held it for me. The wines were very good (Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay and 3 Pinots), the environment was very pretty (it feels more upmarket and adult centered than Truett Hurst). VML = Very Much Like. The winery is housed in a contemporary, well-decorated space with high ceilings and lots of natural light. The design drew you to the bar and wanting to try the wine. Tasting was housed outdoors under dense oak trees. The staff was friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. We loved the wine, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc. The Chardonnay was not our favorite, but Chardonnay lovers will enjoy. They offer a range of red and white wines. The bottle labels are artistic and add to the overall experience. Staff, particularly Deanna, was generous by providing additional tastings for us to enjoy. An all-around great experience that I'd recommend for those visiting Healdsburg. read more

Good wine and frequent 50% off sales that keep my wine racks and refrigerator packed with Gewurtz, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. These wines have affordable and reasonable prices at around $25 a bottle - but when the sales of 50% off the question is "How many cases can we get into the car?" Black Friday tasting was a fun event. My son was wanted to go there for tasting. I still have my rack packed out with the Gewertz and the Blanc so I was not planning on a visit... but glad we did! The Chardonnay was exceptional and at $12 a bottle!! Two cases for me - mother's milk for the retired. One case for the lad who must shoulder the wheel for another 15 or 20 years. Sofie and I served the Chard to our friends the next day before dinner and were pleased at their delight to what I've always considered a "boring" wine. Best stop on our Santa Rosa/ Healdsburg wine tasting trip! AMBIANCE This is such a beautiful winery to visit. From the fountain to the greenery, lawn to the interior, everything was picture-worthy! I especially love the use of succulents in between the steps. It's also really good for big groups, if you make a reservation. It was pretty easy for me to make one with Rachael, the tasting room manager, who was both delightful on the phone, email, and in person. They situated us outside on the picnic benches in their "grove." Not only was it shaded and cool on a beautiful summer day, they also have corn hole, giant jenga, and horseshoes to keep you entertained. Bring your own food to have a picnic! Reserved group tastings are $15/per person non-refundable even with purchase of wine. I think if you do smaller tastings they will refund your cost if you buy a bottle. WINE The wines themselves were very light and easy to drink. That's not to say that they tasted like cheap sweet wine. We stopped by to pick up a case of Gewurtztraminer and were offered a tasting in their beautifully designed and decorated tasting room and outdoor patio. We tried their Sauvignon Blanc, which with its tropical bouquet and dry finish, was one of the tastiest and most unique I have had. We then moved on to their Chardonnay which was rich, creamy and delicious. We also tried the sparkling Blanc de Blancs, which was also dry and crisp. I would recommend this winery for it's unique grounds and trendy interior. I went during covid so I didn't get to spend much time inside but I loved the hip ambiance, it made me feel like I was at a stylish restaurant in SF. I really wish I had gotten her name because she was lovely, but I can tell you that I believe she was Eastern European and she had an accent. The wine for me was pretty standard TASTING. Good solid wine,but I thought the purchase price of each bottle was a little exuberant so that's the only reason I can't give 5 stars. I ended up taking home their Pinot noir that day, probably more so because I liked the bottle it came in but nonetheless I I was happy to support them with my one little purchase. What set this winery a part and made it a place I would recommend though is definitely the small farm they have with animals, and the river on which the winery is situated upon. I loved that mid tasting we were allowed to get up on our own and explore the grounds to whatever extent we liked. We looked in the river for migrating salmon, and I posed for pics with goats... definitely don't get to say that every wine tasting trip! read more

If you have young kids, this winery (and its sister winery Truett Hurst in the same location) is a godsend. They have an animal farm, a beautiful garden, nice picnic tables by the creek, and plenty of open space for the kids to enjoy, They are also very kids friendly, something not to be taken for granted in the wine country. We got to relax with their terrace tasting, while kids were feeding the goats. Their wines are solid, we actually really liked that their Pinots are stronger than most, slightly toward Zinfandel. Day 1 of our Wine Tour: The day after our Vineman Ironman 70.3 Race, our group of 20+ triathletes thought it was a great idea to rent a bus and head out on a wine tour. Turned out to the BEST decision ever! We were able to wine taste and not have to worry about a designated driver. This was one of our stops on the wine tour and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. Our driver arranged for us to have lunch on the picnic tables underneath the shady trees and we had a server do our wine tasting in the same area. It was a brilliant idea because it was just a relaxing and beautiful setting as the grounds here are pretty spectacular. And the weather could not have been more perfect. There was plenty of seating for our large group and we were able to sample all the wines this vineyard had to offer. The tasting was free if purchases were made and while this can become an issue if your palette didn't care for any of the wines -- this wasn't the case for anyone in our group. For me personally, I enjoyed the Chardonnays over the Pinot Noir and ended up getting several bottles. I've already gone through one and am looking to join the wine club here just for their Chardonnay. At $25 a bottle, this bottle might just replaced my La Crema everyday/go-to bottle. I believe I have finally found my favorite winery in ALL the land. Not just this region..I'm talking ALL regions of any wine country in every appellation....ever! It was busy as hell in here too so, I had to stop one of the wine chicks to get a better understanding of the beautiful graphics on all the bottles. The graphics are GORGEOUS. Leaning towards a fairy-land chickieness and some with a zodiac themed wiccaness. I loved all their bottle labels! The Bewitched Pinot Noir is encased in a gorgeous black cloak that makes it look like some mystical potion. Every single wine we tasted here was phenomenal, smooth and a perfect work of art in a bottle. There was this vibe in every sip that told me that the winemaker was not just in this wine business for cash. No, she's a perfectionist and she really aims to put out well-balanced wines that will appeal to everyone. I got the feeling that if a barrel of wine didn't taste right, she would simply throw it out and not let it hit her shelves for consumers. I respect that so much. Virginia Marie Lambrix is more than just a winemaker, she's a mystical grape potion creator...I now have an official wine crush on her. And, her staff didn't even harp on her as much as other places do about their winemakers.. I had to ask...and they were proud to agree with me that her wines were truly one-of-a-kind. The rose wine had a cotton candy top note with a smooth finish, I've never had one like it and now I have to come all the way back since they messed up and didn't give me the bottle I ordered and I ended up with 2 Gewurztraminers instead. But, that's OK because this gewurtz is top notch. Light..sweet..smooth. Once we got to the Bewitched Pinot Noir, I saw the notes and was hoping I'd be able to taste it as it was described. Just like all the other varietals, it was spot ON...bright and luscious cherry fruit with a silky vanilla body. *faints* We also picked up a bottle of her 2010 Limited Release Chardonnay, which..again, is perfect. Everything Virginia makes is PERFECT I say. If wine were cocaine, VML wines would make me a cokehead.. if it were cigarettes, I'd be a chain smoker...if it were meth..I'd lose me to it. Best wines in ALL the land.. ALL OF IT! I say drop what you're doing, head up here right now and buy one of every varietal that they have to offer. read more

You may be asking why there has been a big jump from my previous rating. It's because Elyse from VML took the time to reach out to me. After I posted my previous review, she and other members of the VML staff messaged me right away to apologize for the experience. I was appreciative of the apology, but I wasn't willing to make the trek out to Healdsburg until I received a handwritten note from the manager. That's when I knew that VML took my experience seriously and I had to re-visit their vineyard. I went with my friend, Karen G., who was a part of the wine tour when the incident happened. I agree with everything she said in her review. Our complimentary cheese and wine pairing was awesome, especially because Larry, our wine connoisseur, was upbeat and friendly. Because he didn't know why we were there, his behavior was not persuaded by our last experience. He truly was excited for us to sample the wines that VML offered. He also gave us a tour of the grounds. The garden is so aromatic with the lemon trees and the rosemary bushes. Larry was kind enough to offer some lemons to take home! I bought two bottles of wine: the rose of pinot noir and the late, late harvest. The rose is light in color but embodied the depth that a pinot has. The late, late harvest was delicious and would end a meal perfectly with its delicate sweetness. I want to thank Elyse and the VML staff for reaching out to my friend and I. It's a gesture that I truly appreciate. I've been on Yelp since 2009, and this is the first time a business has taken the time and effort to connect with me. And that says a lot about VML. We stayed at Boon and had a 2 for 1 tasting to VML. What a SUPER CUTE winery. There were persimmons growing and cabbages...how random but cool. The winery was nice and quiet. Jessica I believe poured our wine, and she was fantastic. gave us a little history and made small talk and offered us the persimmon to eat that they grew! Also took home a couple of bottles, and they told us that you can bring outside food to enjoy on their grounds! We had recently joined the VML wine club since they seemed to be a family friendly place with lots of outdoor space and animals to feed. A couple recent events have soured us on them. Firstly, we had visited them in early February (1.5 hour drive for us) and they failed to mention that we were going to be charged the following week for our spring wine shipment, which we choose to pickup, rather than have shipped, again so the kids can feed the animals and be outside. They could have saved us a trip so soon again up there, but I guess it didn't occur to them to say anything. So today was the day we decided to go pick up our wine, and we were turned away at the door because they were hosting a barrel tasting event that didn't allow kids. We had no interest in doing the barrel tasting, but they wouldn't allow our kids on the property to run around in the back, far away from any barrel tasting or whatever. It's their perogative to hold events like that for adults only, but I'm not going to be a member somewhere where my family gets turned away. I cancelled our membership today, and the person who gave me the wine shipment in the tasting room (I was allowed on property, the event hostess said our kids would have to wait in the car) didn't ask why or try to win back our business. Obviously they don't really care about their customers. There are too many other wineries out there to bother with this one. read more

VML is located along Dry Creek and sits on a property with a sister tasting room, Truett Hurst. The winery was quite busy since there was a member event next door, but we were able to secure a nice table on their patio looking out over the creek (which was more like a raging river due to all of the rain). We thoroughly enjoyed our tastings, what sumptuous and delicious wines! The label artwork is so whimsical and down right beautiful as well. Our tasting expert poured liberally, was very knowledgable and made us very content during our visit. The grounds around the tasting room are lovely, the gardens, the farm animals and all of the seating facing toward the creek, its a very special place. The Pinot Noir and blend we tasted, were delightful, fantastic drinkability and very good. The chardonnay was amazing as well, almost thick in body, quite lovely. We seriously enjoyed all of the wines during our visit and honestly, I can't wait to come back to tasting room! read more

Easter Sunday - where do you go when you want to enjoy the outdoors and every place is closed for the holiday!? After reading an online article sponsored by Pure Luxury Transportation listing all wineries open on Easter Sunday, I chose to re-visit VML after a 4 year dry spell! Walking into their gardens is a visual feast into itself, even if you DON'T drink wine. Throw in a glorious spring day and we were ready for a lazy afternoon enjoying the sunshine. We tasted a wonderful sparkling wine, very fruit forward Chardonnay, Rose of Pinot Noir, and 3 other single vineyard designated Pinot Noir's. Their wines are stunning! Very refined and luscious. And, the prices, while not cheap, are not overpriced either. We joined their wine club and can't wait to go back! read more

This a gorgeous winery located on Westside Road in Healdsburg. Set a short way off the main road, you won't realize the beauty of the grounds until you drive down their driveway. This is a PERFECT spot for a picnic. The outdoor patio has tables and chairs with views of the gardens and the vineyards. The tasting can either occur inside at the tasting bar or outside at the tables. In addition, you can do elevated tastings that can include "side by side" tastings. We did an elevated tasting with the first "side by side" being a selection of barrel select red wines. The wines were Stars, Moon, and Earth. They were three different Pinot Noirs. My preferred out of the three was Stars. Next, we did a side by side of some additional reds that they happened to have open. We tried some special wines. All quite good. I was very impressed by the quality of their wines. TIP: they sometimes have live music on weekends. While we were visiting (on Sunday) there was a guitar player/singer playing nice music for us. What a treat! TIP: they do sell some picnic snack items if you forget to bring things. They have an assortment of cheeses and meats and some spreads. They can also provide you with a nice wooden cutting board. TIP: they have a sparkling wine that is made by Iron Horse. VML grapes, Ironhorse production, and then it is returned to VML to do the final stages. Pretty neat. It was a blush sparkling (somewhat in between white and rose). Our hotel, Camellia Inn, had a number of cards, postcards, etc. from nearby wineries so we decided to visit VML based on their nice card design. We picked up some food from Oakville Grocery and had lunch outside on one of their tables while we tasted wine. We had our dog with us and the tasting room was pretty busy (only 2 people working), so one of us would go inside to fill our glasses once we were ready to taste the next wine. The wine was really good. I really enjoyed their reds and purchased the Ivywood Pinot Noir. Although we didn't get to chat with the staff much (since we were outside), they were friendly when we did speak with them and they always made sure to fill our glasses (generously; almost enough for a glass of wine) and quickly when we walked in for the next taste even when they were busy with other customers. The grounds were beaufitul with a number of tables outside. If it wasn't so busy, I bet that we would have been able to chat with the staff more, but the wine more than makes up for that. I'd recommend stopping by VML. They also offer a Yelp check-in discount of 10% off wines purchased. read more

Was able to get into the most wonderful member event, although not yet a member, and had the best experience. There are many wineries out there and to be able to have a great experience and some great wine is key to us. We were treated like extended family from the start and welcomed in. Their Blanc de Blanc is wonderful, and they have some very tasty Pinots. The property is absolutely stunning. It's a very rural area, so if natural out door beauty is not your thing, then this isn't the place for you. There's a large stream, almost River, running through the back of the property, and large steelhead and salmon frequent here. (No fishing or wading allowed.) Picnic tables are everywhere and picnics are encouraged. Very easy to spend the afternoon here enjoying the surroundings with some really great wine. Highly recommend. PS. I absolutely love coming to VML as the first stop on my trips out to Russian River! The winery itself is gorgeous; there are gardens that line the property, a beautiful tasting room, and great views of the Russian River wine region in the front. Whenever I come here, I usually end up staying well over an hour hanging out and talking to the staff. They are so friendly and happy! On top of that, I love their wines. Since there are a lot of pinot noirs in the Russian River valley, you definitely get a lot here. And good ones at that! I am personally a big fan of their rose, and love getting all the exclusive wines that are reserved for the members. I have so many feels when it comes to this winery, and I could probably go on and on about how much I like it here, but I will just keep it short and tell you it's wonderful. read more
