Cool place! We did a lot this day and it was nice to chill and have a glass of Pinot. Would love to try the tasting next time, it seems very affordable and offers an Adventorous selection. The space was bright and inviting. Server was great too! read more

Upon a revisit to Healdsburg we wanted to try Marine Layer as it's one of the newer kids on the block. We're experienced wine connoisseurs and have enjoyed wine experiences around the world, including in Healdsburg on numerous occasions. In our search for Pinots to serve with upcoming holiday dinners and parties, we stopped into Marine Layer. The space itself was inviting and had many comfortable seating arrangements from living room style areas with a plush sofas and chairs to more traditional table and chair seating to bar stools at the bar. Typically we enjoy engaging with staff while we sample wines, so naturally we gravitated to the bar. We were hoping to learn more about the wines they pour and about the winery itself. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. There were two gentlemen behind the bar and we obviously drew the short stick as our assigned staff member just couldn't be bothered to engage with us at all. He poured us our two glasses and proceeded to busy himself doing everything and anything behind the bar than to engage with us. We knew this wasn't the norm because the other staff member was readily and easily engaging with the other patrons. We ordered glasses of the the 2023 Grand Vent and the 2023 Cap's Crown. Both were palatable wines, but we were left wanting as literally no information was shared with us about these two wines, although we made it clear our intent was to find and purchase suitable wines for upcoming celebrations. Needless to say, Marine Layer failed its first interview and won't get another from us. Perhaps we've been spoiled by the exceptional tasting experiences we've had out on Westside Road - where anyone should go who's seeking exceptional Pinots from the area (Russian River Valley). We know that Healdsburg remains a great place to sample wines from Sonoma and beyond. We also know that a spot on the square in Healdsburg doesn't equate to excellence. We're often asked to recommend approachable wines and wine tasting experiences to friends, family and colleagues. Unfortunately, we'll not be recommending Marine Layer. read more

We were exploring downtown Healdsburg recently during the Christmas break. Since there were so many intriguing tasting rooms, we decided to check one out. We chose to drop in Marine Layer Wines. The tasting room is located in a very nice area in beautiful downtown Healdsburg across Healdsburg square. Parking is accessible all around the street and Healdsburg square. The modern decor was beautiful and bright. There were plenty of tables and couches to accommodate all different size parties. The vibe was inviting and family friendly. There was a cozy fireplace in the front as well. We ordered a glass of Lyra Pinot Noir and a glass of Aries Chardonnay. My Pinot Noir was smooth while the wifey's Chardonnay was crisp and refreshing. The wine was great quality. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Marine Layer Wines. The staff was nice and helpful. We appreciated the family friendly environment. It was nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas, by relaxing with a nice glass of wine. read more

Excellent wine tasting experience in charming Healdsburg. Our sommelier, Trevor, was super knowledgeable and went out of his way to ensure we had an appreciation for every sip. Patrons can have wine by the glass or bottle and opt for single vineyard or seasonal tasting menus. Modern, beautifully appointed tasting room. Highly recommend. read more

My notes about Marine Layer was "highest wine tasting room rating on Yelp in Healdsberg." And that rating is 100% deserved. We walked in on a Saturday around noon, and we didn't have a reservation. They were able to seat us on a comfy couch, and also mentioned there was space at the bar. I think if you were a large group, you probably would want to set up a reservation ahead of time. Trevor, who helped us, was extremely knowledgeable about wines and wine-making. He was very flexible with letting my friend who doesn't like red wines do a tasting of different whites, including a chardonnay that wasn't on the tasting menu. Also one friend came in a little later and they were very good at letting her "catch up" with us. There was no sense of being hurried or pushed into a purchase. I did get a bottle of one of their seasonal white wines. I really liked the pinot noir the best! read more

We came to check out this tasting room after a friend's recommendation. The space is beautiful, and they offer two different types of tasting. We went for the Pinot flight (Sonoma coast Vineyard series) and really enjoyed the Bohemian and Whistler. Staff was great in explaining each pour and giving us space to just relax. read more

Very cute tasting room downtown on the square. It's big, super clean and modern decor. it can be very loud in there due to the acoustics. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They didn't rush us. Several wines to choose from and taste. The sav blanc and red blend were our favorites. read more

It was our first time exploring the downtown Healdsburg area and came across multiple tasting rooms. We happen to find Marine Layer Wines tasting room that had some kids inside and a full seating area. Since we had our 11 yr old son, we thought it would be a good place to try. We were seated in a comfy sofa area behind the Christmas tree. They were only offering wines by the glass. So we got the 2023 Aries Chardonnay and 2022 Lyra Pinot Noir. It was such a relaxing time to enjoy the delicious wine and relax after exploring the downtown area. Will definitely come back for some wine tasting read more

I'd had Marine Layer Wines bookmarked for a while after my boyfriend and I walked by and immediately loved the interior design--super airy, modern, and inviting. We finally got a chance to try it, and I'm really glad we did. We made a reservation but ended up running about 15-30 minutes late, and they were still incredibly accommodating, which I really appreciated. We ordered their signature tasting, and the staff member who guided us through it was fantastic. We're not super knowledgeable about wine, but he was so friendly and welcoming, and explained everything in a really approachable, easy-to-understand way. It honestly made the whole tasting experience really fun and way better than we expected. Just note that they don't serve food, so it's definitely best to grab a bite beforehand and then come here to do the tasting. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back again--and bring friends next time! read more

Marine Layer Wines is an excellent tasting room in downtown Healdsburg!! Very cool ambiance and decor. Comfortable seating. Excellent staff with fantastic knowledge of all different wines and provided great stories to the different wines we tasted. Definitely a place we will frequent each time we're in Healdsburg! read more

This is a nice cozy place to do a little wine tasting in downtown Healdsburg. The various seating areas are nicely furnished, almost too comfortable some would say considering after the first few glasses i started to get really sleepy. Staff here is really nice and accommodating. They do have some little light bites to go with the tasting but its limited, when we tried to order one of the plates, they told us they only had enough to just do a simple hummus dip with some crackers. Luckily after our tasting we strolled around and ended up at a really good ice cream shop so we got a cup to snack on. As far as the wine is concerned we thought they were all fine but nothing that we thought was special enough to bring home with us. read more

We came here on a recommendation from Jordan Winery and it did not disappoint. The interior is spacious, airy, and full of natural light. The staff were knowledgeable about the wines and were clearly passionate about it. We didn't have any food, not even sure if they have any, but this is a great place for casual 1:1 drinks and also for small groups. read more

Nice tasting room located on the square in Healdsburg. Employees are very nice, outgoing and knowledgeable about the wine. The wine is good, with the Chardonnay as the standout for us. Tastings are $30 for 4 of their wines and $40 for 5 of their single vineyard wines. We opted to taste all wines and therefore did both tastings between the two of us. Our wine educator also poured us a splash of their cool climate Syrah and a splash of their Sparkling wine. My reason for not awarding 5 stars is their policy for not comping tastings with the purchase of wine. For those that have no problem with that, it might be a five star winery. Since I have visited literally 100's of wineries and would say only about 2% have implemented a policy like this it warrants a reduction of at least 1 star. It was our anniversary, we made a memory and that concludes my review. read more

Marine Layer is located in the heart of downtown Healdsburg, right on the square. The aesthetic in the tasting room is absolutely stunning! Marine Layer makes cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from vineyards along the California coast. They offer tastings for $35, which includes five wines. In addition to offering flights, they offer wines by the glass and bottle. I loved the Lyra Pinot Noir! They also have a mezze plate available from Little Saints. Michael was the staff person who helped my friend and I. He was very knowledgeable about the wines and passionate about what they are doing at Marine Layer! Reservations are not required at Marine Layer, but they do get busy so I recommended making one if you can! I can't wait to come back here again soon! read more

We made a reservation and had an excellent tasting! We really loved their Chardonnays. All three we had were excellent. They're all great examples of Sonoma coastal style Chardonnay. Neither my wife, nor I are vegetarians, however, we had the Mezze platter provided by Little Saint. It was outstanding! (they usually need a 24 hour advance notice if you're going to order it.) read more

This is an amazing wine bar with beautiful cozy interior and great local wine. We dropped in today as we were drawn to the cozy couch and the owner was so welcoming. Even though we were only there for one glass of wine, he treated us so warmly and even gave us recommendations for a few other local spots to checkout. Perfect place to relax with a glass of wine, and it's got great energy. read more

Marine Layer is a new tasting room on the Healdsburg Plaza. Wow! The setting is stunning! They transformed the previously dark space into one that's light, coastal-feeling, and inviting. I love all the textures! Went when they opened in the fall for an indoor tasting and food pairing and loved both! The Wine: the Marine Layer flight is five limited production cool climate wines (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the rugged Sonoma Coast) - $35pp The Food: a mezze plate from nearby/soon-to-open Little Saint (in the former Shed space). The plate features seasonal ingredients from Little Saint farms in Healdsburg. Delicious! - $15pp We've since been back to enjoy wines by the glass (or bottle) at the bar. Our favorite, the Lyra Pinot, is on the by-the-glass menu. I think tasting flights finish around 5:00pm but the bar remains open until around 6:30pm, so this is a great spot for a pre-dinner drink in town. Highly recommend that you stop here for the delicious wines! And when you do, don't miss a visit to their beautiful bathrooms! The green tiles are dreamy! read more

Love the aesthetics, love the wine. I only wish they had a 12 bottle/year wine club option (because I would love to join)! Have been wanting to try this place for awhile now. I'm a huge fan of Sonoma Coast pinots, and Marine Layer definitely delivers! Made a reservation for 2 tastings (plus a Little Saint food plate) on Tock for President's Day weekend. The price is fairly steep for the area ($35 per tasting and no waiver for bottle purchase), but their wines are legit worth it if you're wanting to try a little of everything. Their Chardonnay is the embodiment of a "typical CA Chardonnay." Not my go-to for whites, but if you like buttery and oaky chards, it's a solid option. Their cold climate pinots (cultivated by their namesake marine layer) are absolutely scrumptious. Ended up purchasing a bottle of their 2019 Lyra and Walala Pinots. The Little Saint food platter was a fun, non-traditional spin on typical charcuterie spreads. It was entirely vegan and featured za'atar dusted chips, hummus, and pickled and fresh vegetables to dip. The flavors were "good," but I would am curious to try their pinots with a nice pulled pork or mushroom-infused goat cheese to see how it brings out the earth-notes in the wine. All in all, would definitely return for a glass of wine in their beautiful tasting space, but do not need to repeat the full tasting. Let me know if you decide to create a 12 bottle/year wine club option ;) Cheers! read more

$40 each for tasting each, two people. Bought 2 bottles $50 each of wine and tasting fee was not waived. Got a little snack that was just ok. Came out of there no less than $170 each. Included one glass of $14 wine. Would not recommend. read more

Blown away by the level of attentiveness and knowledge of Trevor, who walked us through each wine in the tasting. One of my absolute favorites in Healdsburg. Conveniently located on the main square. Some of my favorite Chardonnay & Pinot Noirs. Also love their Sparkling. With one of the most aesthicically pleasing tasting rooms, the bar is great to pop in for a tasting, and cozy couches in the winter. The spot by the fire place in the winter is 10:10! Great service. This place is amazing! I've never considered myself to be a wine person, I'll have a glass or so here and there but never found one that I truly found to be a favorite, then came Marine Layer. This place is not only stunning inside, the decor is really 10/10 in my book, but the wines they offer are also 10/10. I had stopped here with few friends and did the tasting and I have to say that all of the wines were great. The atmosphere really just allows you to relax and enjoy the wine and just life itself. The servers here were also super friendly. The two times we went we were treated with such great service. Super informative on the wine and also just very friendly in general. The wine tasting also came with a little snack of lentil crackers and a dip. And those were delicious. This has become a place that I will frequent when in the area and a must go to people I have visiting. read more

Located right next to Downtown Bakery & Creamery off Healdsburg Square, we visited in late November and this was a great find featuring balanced Chardonnay & Pinot Noir as well as Syrah from the Brosseau Vineyard in Monterey. Fantastic wines, beautiful tasting room and excellence service. We had so much fun, lots of laughs and it was probably the most surprising winery of a three day trip.
