Fantastic winery! While staying in Forestville with my sister and her boyfriend, they recommended I stop by Auteur for a glass of wine and a view of the Russian River valley. Excellent choice, Mary Francis was very friendly and suggested a delightful Chardonnay. The building is exquisite and the view is magnificent. A must visit while in Sonoma.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Russian River while sipping exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Auteur! We visited while Laura was running the tasting room solo and she made our experience one to remember with her laid back and down to earth personality. The bread and butter is a MUST!

We recently visited Auteur Russian River for the first time and and all I can say is "wow"! We were blown away by our experience here and absolutely loved everything about it! This hidden gem is tucked away in the Russian River Valley. We did the Appellation Series Tasting, although you have the option of doing a Single Vineyard tasting as well for a little more. You really can't go wrong with either option because the wine is amazing! I personally love Pinot Noir, although if you are a Chardonnay lover, they have incredible Chardonnay as well. It's a newly built estate and built on a hilltop overlooking the valley and hillside with stunning vineyard views. This place has panoramic views that are absolutely breathtaking! Whoever built and designed this location did an exceptional job! Even though this winery had other people tasting while we were tasting, it felt like a very private and intimate tasting and experience. I think this is partly because they have both indoor and outdoor tasting areas. Regardless of where your tasting is, there is no shortage of views due to how this estate was built with floor to ceiling glass so there is no shortage of incredible views! Max was our host and he was very knowledgeable, informative, welcoming, genuine, and down to earth. Everyone that worked here provided service that was top notch! We purchased a few bottles of our favorites to enjoy at a later date. We can't recommend visiting this place enough! You will be blown away by the wine, views, experience, and top notch service!

This was our first stop and it was an amazing winery- only open for reservations only (no walk-ins). The views from the winery are absolutely outstanding. We learned from our host that the owners of the Gary Farrell Winery don't own any of the vineyards, they only procure the grapes and they're the wine maker. The wines were all drastically different and some of the best Chardonnay's we have had on any of our tastings we have done in Napa. The host was so knowledgable and very warm and friendly. We went away with a new found appreciation of their winery and purchased a bottle of wine to take home with us for a Christmas gift. We stopped in without a reservation for a tasting right as they were opening and were warmly greeted by Stacey who led our tasting. We tasted through the menu of 5 wines and even got some additional off menu pours, one of which we ended up bringing home with us. Stacey was full of knowledge about the wines, vines, and history of the vineyard. The tasting was made extra interesting/fun by the comparison of some of the wines in different glasses, at different aeration levels, and even one with chocolate. The tasting room had a very bright, light, and unpretentious feel to it. After going through the tasting we ended up leaving with 3 bottles of wine, one white and two reds, one of which was a pinot noir which is what they're known for. Highly recommend tasting here and would absolutely plan to come back next time I find myself in Guerneville!

The tasting menu consisted of two whites, 2 Pinot noirs and a port red , but a rosé and extra Pinot noir were also thrown in so it was good tasting array with generous pours. I don't even generally like Pinot noirs which I usually find too light bodied, but enjoyed all the pours Service was good, she explained the wines and their origins well. I loved the little Chardonnay experiment where she gave me two different glasses to see the difference in the same Chardonnay pour . The drive up is scenic, but the outdoor patio seating is basically in the parking lot, the indoor tasting room is cute but quaint as well They take reservations on their website, but I walked in without a problem Glad we stopped by ! We were shown to our table and they offered us some time to walk the grounds, garden and view the lake. They said we could spend more time after lunch, viewing the rest of the property. The garden was beautiful. Lots of herbs and flowers, with labels. The restaurant itself was gorgeous. Wood. High ceilings. Nice decor. Our server seemed pretty new. He made a few errors throughout, but that did not significantly deter from our experience. It was really neat that the chef came out with every pairing and explained each course. We never felt rushed. There was plenty of wine. The food was exquisite. We ended up buying a few bottles of wine and even though I filled out the shipping information and told the server my preferred vendor was ups over FedEx because I have an account - he managed to bring our bottles of wine all bagged up, to our table. Yikes. We were curious about the pizza oven upon arrival. We saw it and hoped for pizza but they did not have that on the lunch pairing menu. So after we finished our scheduled lunch, it was pretty slow there, so we asked if we could stay and order more food. Our server brought the menu for us (after our third request) and we ordered a pizza and the fries which basically stated on the menu that they were the best fries you've ever had. Well, I can attest that they are not. Yes, they are shoestring fries for you lovers out there. But also, they're not a step too far from McDonald's. So that's all. Not the best of my life. Not life changing. Just like McDonald's. But the pizza was good. Unfortunately I had asked if it was red sauce and was given a yes answer. But you can see the pizza doesn't have any red sauce on it at all. I probably would've ordered a different one, if I was properly informed. Also, I asked for no balsamic glaze and of course it came with balsamic glaze. Yet another error. Whatever. I'm not sure what's up with people who swear by balsamic? Keep it off my bruschetta, it doesn't belong there. And don't put it on Brussels sprouts either. Yuck. Too much sugar and it's not necessary. On the pizza, it was fine, but not my preference. But it probably saved the pizza because there a was NO SAUCE. Anyhow- their little gift shop area is super cute and I perused the items. Also- they have a shelf of board games! How fun! It would be great to come by, get some light bites, a ton of wine, and play games and take a walk to enjoy the property. It's such a gorgeous place. I would recommend this place. The lunch and wine pairing was expensive, but the food was superior quality. The wine here is great. We did not become members but I can see why people do. Their Sauvignon blanc was one of my faves, so that was two of the bottles we purchased. Our order was eventually packaged and sent to us, via FedEx, not UPS, and was in good shape upon arrival.
