My friend booked us a reservation here for my birthday! Coming from the Napa valley, we had never been to Healdsburg before and we loved this quaint little town with so many local shops. The winery fit right in and we loved the small location with the view of the vineyards. We booked a reservation for the Root 101 Wine & Food Pairing Experience. I've had cheese and cracker experiences in wine tasting before, but this experience was a stand out with their perfectly curated arrangements of small bites that paired so well with the wines we were presented. Having the food pairing with the wines really felt like it brought out an elevated level of wine tasting because most wine is enjoyed with food when you take it home. The team really worked hard to make sure this tasting was unique and we found each bite to hold its own experience. I've been to Walt Wines in Napa but this location was worth the drive and the experience! Peter hosted us and was very knowledgeable about the wines and the food - having a passion for both. We were very grateful to be paired with Peter for our tasting, he made it a great experience! I would highly recommend taking advantage of the food pairing experience as it helps the wines stand out and just offers something different to a typical wine tasting. read more

Apart of the Hall family wines, Baca is their branch in Healdsburg dedicated to Zinfandels. Upon walking in, a welcome pour is delivered of the newest label of Hall wines- Michael Foch Champagne (yes it's made in France and shipped here to be able to call it Champagne). Very sleek tasting room with minimal indoor seating and huge glass windows looking out at the vineyards. Lots of outdoor patio/vineyard seating which is where you want to be. Take in being wine country the right way. Choose a flight, sit back, and enjoy the wine + education. Brandon did such a great job with time management, good information- touching on key points and facts that i was able to remember. Although it was a good experience, Baca isn't my favorite wine out of the portfolio. read more

Prepaid for tasting so again not obligated to buy, but boy did they try! Place is top tier. Their wines were so good. We went for a tasting on a random weekday to celebrate my finances birthday and it was delightful. Peter was the nicest guy that didn't make us feel pressured or out of place whatsoever. He made us feel right at home! We came to the area in search of a membership and BACA ended up being our choice. Easiest decision ever as they have tasting rooms in Napa, Sonoma, Healdsburg, and Palm Springs where we can bring up to 3 friends to taste for free! You can sit indoor and outside. The outside is an interesting modern building and the inside follows with the modern vibe. It was loud inside and a tad cramped. I'm all for sharing tables whole tasting but my ears were ringing. The wine tender was trying to be personalable but we just wanted to taste amongst ourselves. The wines were so so and just not for me. Other wine tasters around our party were enjoying. I have tried baca wines before and really enjoyed them. I was truly looking forward to this tasting. We were greeted with a lovely champagne tasting. The wines themselves were quite good but a bit in the pricy side. Having already bought some baca wines I can get them significantly cheaper in Pennsylvania then they charge at the tasting room. I honestly thought I'd be joining this club until I saw the club prices were significantly more than what I can get the for at home. That being said our party of four bought eight bottles of wine. Two champagne's and multiple zinfandels. Every other winery we've gone to comped some of the tasting fees based on the numbers of bottles purchased. I mistakenly assumed this was the case here. When I called to ask them about why I was charged for all four tasting fees they responded they only comp club members. It was my error for assuming all wineries have similar tasting policies but please be aware there is no comp here if you don't join the club. read more

Late to post, was here in December, but what a great experience. We did the wine and chocolate pairing with Tristan. The host makes the experience!! Tristan was very informative and we could feel his passion for the land/terrior. Great explanations from someone who gets their hands dirty growing the grapes. I'm a BaCa club member. Was encouraged to sample the wine and food experience. Well, given that the food was less than 6 teaspoons of three tastes, the "experience" is way paltry. The tidbits were no better than combos of stuff you'd buy at Safeway. I like the wines. I buy them here frequently. I'm also a member of 7 other wineries. Those places have food experiences that are full on gourmet meals of fancy tasting menus. My friends at BACA, really just drop this program. It's pretty shameful and doesn't reflect well on the high quality wines. Addendum: My wife then tells me 5 days later that this "food experience" cost us $60 each! For less than 6 teaspoons of Safeway quality deli tidbits? You gott'a be kidding me. I canceled my wine club membership after that shocking news. read more

Just completed an amazing wine tasting at Baca! I am not a fan of Zinfandel grapes, but I must say I am now a fan. From the "Round the Rose'" Zinfandel based rose' wine, to the "I Spy" Zinfandel; each wine was better than the last. Brandon handled our tasting without any rush or pretense. He provided great advice based upon our palettes and preferences. The atmosphere and views into the vineyard from the tasting room were wonderful. As a wine club member, I was extremely disappointed with my "wine and food experience". over the weekend. Now I have been a member for close to a year, and have enjoyed the Zin's and the fact that they are also a part of the Walt Wine family for Pinot Noir. You can interchange your member shipment etc. As a wine club member I believe I am entitled to visit for tastings, with a reservation, with no charge, so many times a year. So, why did I pay $60 per person as a "member price", to add 6 extremely "bite size" tastes of food with 6 wines. Dumb me, I should have figured that out when I made the reservation. This is by far NO wine and food experience. There are two each of 3 miniature bites of food, nothing fancy at all. A thumb size piece of pate with a dollop of mustard, a 1/4" square of cheese with a Marcona almond on top, and a spoonful of a pinky finger size of poached pear. Dropping the membership next week. They are clueless. What a waste of money. read more

Highly highly recommend BACA! Especially for lovers of Zin. Our favorite is the Cat's Cradle. We loved it so much we even joined their wine club. The first time we went we got the wine + cheese flight and we have done the members tasting in other visits. Great service, friendly staff and a super cute spot not far from downtown Healdsburg. One of the most knowledgeable hosts, beautiful scenery, and not feeling rushed or intimidated to purchase

BACA Wines is only a few minutes outside downtown Healdsburg, yet it makes a world of difference if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown. There's ample parking, including two free EV chargers (though, they're quite slow - I believe 6kW), which again, is a much appreciated difference with downtown tasting rooms. The property is gorgeous and the tasting patio is quaint, comfortable, and overlooks one of their vineyards. The staff are top notch - among the best we've had at the many tasting rooms we've visited. They offer an extremely high level of hospitality, but are also very knowledgeable, not only about the BACA wines, but all of the wines offered by the Hall portfolio. They also offer different tasting experiences - if you're more into Pinot, you can do a Walt-focused experience. Zin? Do the BACA experience? Don't know what you want? Try the mixed experience, which offers a little of everything across the portfolio. If you really enjoy learning about the history of a producer, where vineyards are located, the terroir/weather/etc, you will really enjoy tastings with BACA (or really any of the Hall wineries). I'm always really impressed with the level of knowledge of the staff and despite knowing probably slightly more than the average consumer, I never leave one of their tastings without learning something new. This review is solely focused on the tasting experience, ambiance, and hospitality you'll receive, and not the wines. I will be totally honest and say that I am not a huge fan of most CA-produced Zinfandel. I find them way too ripe and concentrated, with way too much new oak, and alcohol levels that are ridiculously high (I've seen some offerings pushing 16%+). Although I found the BACA zins a bit more retrained than say a zin from Lodi, they still fell in this category for me. If you like really big, structured red wines, you'll enjoy the zins here. The Hall wines in general are all quite big - whether you're into Zin or Cab or Pinot, I think all the wines tend to be quite big. Lastly, I just want to add that of all the Hall wineries, BACA's pricing is still very reasonable with bottle prices around the $40-50 for some offerings. You will not find many Hall wines in this price point. read more
