I have a very specialized job where my eyesight is my lifeline. I've had countless frames, contact lenses, special FX lenses both standard size and sclera (prescription) always exactly what I need as my eyes changed over the years. When Dr. Gee recommended LASIK Surgery (which lasted 15 years) I still came for my regular check ups. Fast forward to today, I'm back wearing glasses and being cared for by the new Dr's now that Dr Gee is no longer with us. I'm so grateful that the team continues the same level of care and precision with their exams and all my crazy requests. Now my son, my husband and my siblings and parents come here. We love Avalon Optometry and will be coming here maybe even when I have grandkids!

Gee, I really don't know how to start without making this a…read morelong drawn out review but I'll try. I met doctor Chu and her sister Suzanne between twenty five and thirty years ago. I came by to do a business license inspection and to also make sure the property was safe for them and future clients. At the time of the inspection I was not in need of eye exams or eyewear so I was just happy to meet a couple of sisters that had a community vision of something that was needed in the area. Suzanne and Amy have always been patient, caring people who have shown a great interest and concern in all their clients. At some point clients become friends who are welcomed into the business. As for as the receptionist are concerned they have all been incredibly professional and welcoming in my opinion. They have a more then adequate selection of frames from Gucci, Dolce and Cabanna, Ray Bans, Carrera etc. By chance there is a frame that they don't have in their collection, give Suzanne the maker and model number and she'll locate it. I'm big on customer service and they absolutely deliver in every aspect of customer service. I'll always keep my loyalty to them and I hope that they remain in the Carson area delivering the same quality of service that they have been for the last couple of decades. I left once and went to Costco but came back and now I'm done with this office. I called the other day and was on hold for 10 minutes. I am trying a new optometrist next month when my insurance is available for full exam etc. My latest glasses are horrible. Spent so much money. The anti reflection is expensive yet it doesn't look like I have it. In pictures, I look horrible. Can't see my eyes. The new doctor I got was nice but probably examined me wrong. My glasses are hard to use. The countertops and tables look curved. Also she told me the price for a contact lens exam and gave me the wrong price. If I would have known I would have said nevermind I will live without new contacts. I paid so much money for a horrible product. I told the staff and they didn't care. I was forced to pay even though she made an error and saw the wrong price. I cried and cried in my car. Melody called me and probably realized I was upset and she tried her best to make me happy and I agreed with her offer and that was that. But for the past year, I've been wearing my old prescription glasses because the new ones are simply hard to use. Plus I spent so much money on new frames and new contact lens exam that I didn't have enough money left over for new sunglasses so I've been using my sunglasses from two prescriptions ago and now I fell while running and they scratched up so I am forced to replace everything. i am new to vsp and called to make an appointment for an exam for contact lens. the front desk…read morestaff were all really nice, over the phone and in person. they called prior to my appointment to give a friendly reminder. dr au and his staff were all very professional. my exam look about 30m dr au was pretty personable. recommended that i purchase pataday eye drops for my red eyes which are caused by allergies. the only thing is that i was not made aware of was the contact fitting fee, which is $60. when i called to make the appt, the gal provided my co pay amount and the allowance for contacts under my vision insurance. this is why i always opt out of vision insurance bc it costs less for me to pay out of pocket for contacts than to pay for vision insurance twice a month + copay + contact fitting fee + difference of what my insurance covers for contacts, which is about $100 more. so basically i am paying double this year. other than not disclosing the contact fitting fee..the visit was good. parking: plenty of parking.

I made the mistake of taking my father to this location for an eye exam…read more The doctor who assisted him with the exam was not patient. He rushed my father during the exam and made him feel very uncomfortable. This resulted in 1 pair of regular glasses with a strong prescription and 1 pair of sunglasses with a strong prescription as well. My father had a second exam and this other doctor was doing the same thing. I had to ask her to slow down and allow my father to process each option. My father had to wait almost a month before actually receiving the correct prescription. Also, the staff never called to let us know his glasses were ready. I had to either show up in person or call ahead to check on the status. We're talking about 4 different pairs of glasses that I had to chase down. They charged for a full exam but didn't even dilate his eyes. Furthermore, during that same period, I took my daughter for an eye exam. Her exam was Ok but I've gone to other locations were the service is of high quality. I also had to chase down her glasses because no one called to let me know they were ready. This location is dirty. The exam room is full of junk. The carpet is dirty and they have a limited amount of chairs in the waiting area. People are standing around waiting for seats. I do not recommend this place. Do your homework and find a comfortable location. Get your moneys worth.
