Gee, I really don't know how to start without making this a long drawn out review but I'll try. I met doctor Chu and her sister Suzanne between twenty five and thirty years ago. I came by to do a business license inspection and to also make sure the property was safe for them and future clients. At the time of the inspection I was not in need of eye exams or eyewear so I was just happy to meet a couple of sisters that had a community vision of something that was needed in the area. Suzanne and Amy have always been patient, caring people who have shown a great interest and concern in all their clients. At some point clients become friends who are welcomed into the business. As for as the receptionist are concerned they have all been incredibly professional and welcoming in my opinion. They have a more then adequate selection of frames from Gucci, Dolce and Cabanna, Ray Bans, Carrera etc. By chance there is a frame that they don't have in their collection, give Suzanne the maker and model number and she'll locate it. I'm big on customer service and they absolutely deliver in every aspect of customer service. I'll always keep my loyalty to them and I hope that they remain in the Carson area delivering the same quality of service that they have been for the last couple of decades. The glasses I received (after a very long wait) were really not very good, lens-wise. Additionally, Amy Chu gave me a choice of leftover frames she pulled out of her desk drawer, which I thought was very odd, and rather disrespectful. I have been coming to Dr.Chu's office for many years, she's the best and so is her staff! Super friendly and very thorough. She takes her time with each patient, does not rush and really takes the time to get to know them! Staff goes over insurance coverages in detail and answers any questions you may have. They also have a wide selection of glasses, so hard to choose just one! Would highly recommend this office to anyone looking for an amazing optometrist. And with the times, the office has taken the proper Covid precautionary measures. There is a covid survey to fill out, hand sanitizer in the office, and temperature checks upon entry. I now live 10 miles away and no matter where I go, will forever be dedicated to her due diligence and providing top notch eye care services to my entire family. The best in LA. Dr.Chu is so through and is very professional as well as all the other staff especially Suzanna! I have been a patient since I was a kid and previous family members before me have been coming to her because we trust her just that much. The staff also takes great measures in being clean and sanitizing everything after every patient! They take care of their patients. And if you get anxious at eye doctors, like I do, as if you're being rushed trust me you dont have to worry about that here! They are the complete opposite. They will never rush you and genuinely want you to be happy with your glasses. We have been looking for a patient and honest optometrist, well we found it. Dr Chu and her staff are wonderful, our entire family of four went today and all had a great experience. The entire staff was extremely find and knowledgeable, absolutely no push to upsell in any way. Very patient when we tried on a ton a different frames. Amy will tell you everything about optic nerves if you want to hear it. She'll make sure that you get the most accurate prescription and objectively recommend what suits you best. I REALLY like Dr. Amy Chu. I live in Torrance, and hers is not the most convenient location AND it's in kind of a funky location (-1 for that), BUT she's got a wonderful, patient personality and answers all my questions. Before her, I had gone to another optometrist in Burbank (near my old work) on a friend's recommendation, and he was a real jerk, impatient with my questions. So a friend's recommendation turned out to be a bust, while Dr. Chu, whom I picked randomnly from my insurance booklet is great. Go figure. Lastly, don't let the funky location and exterior fool you. Her sister is the office manager and eyeglass buyer and has EXCELLENT taste in styles from budget to designer, plus those expensive oversized sunglasses. I bought the same pair of Via Spiga's she was wearing, and I still love them. A bonus is that Dr. Chu looks young, so hopefully, she's not retiring anytime soon. read more

The other reviewer gave her 4 stars minus one for the location. The location really wasn't that bad for me as I lived just two blocks away. I searched for her online and found that she was good (back before Yelp existed). She is patient friendly to the maximum and she really is incredible and she answers all my questions intelligibly and brilliantly. From the first time I made an appointment by phone, the receptionist...now I know her name is Gladys...was so professional, very warm and knowledgeable regarding insurance etc.,I already felt very good about this place. It is sooo hard to find good doctors. If you need an optometrist, I highly recommend Dr. Amy Chu. I have been going to her for years. A few times I've had changes in my insurance and so I ended up going to a few different optometrists. But I always returned to Amy Chu. Even after I moved more than 36 miles away! She is the best. Dr. Chu is amazing. She was very professional yet relatable. I've also visited one of the other doctors there (forgot his name) but he was very nice too. I would have had a great experience and would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the people they have working up front. I don't know if it was just me, but the receptionist or whatever she is very condescending and not accommodating at all and made me leave with a sour taste. Dr. Amy Chu is terrific, and her staff is outstanding. It's a small office and they take customer service very seriously, making sure you are very happy with your perscription and frames. I found Dr. Chu by searching the internet for a match to my insurance coverage. That was 6 years ago and she had just been named the best young optometrist of the year. She has been my doctor since 2002 and I've always appreciated her thorough exams, expert analysis and great sense of humor! She treats a lot of children and I would imagine they love her. Recently I had a small complication with my vision and Dr. Chu found the link to an underlying condition. She recommended a treatment plan and referred me to stellar doctors, who have all praised her expert "detective" work for identifying the problem. All is now well and she continues to monitor my vision for changes. It feels wonderful to be in the care of such an expert. I hope her practice continues to grow and thrive. Dr. Chu is a very good and great doctor. She is our eye doctor for more than 10-years. I referred my whole family to her as well as my co-worker. She refers me to eye specialist if needed. The location might not seem pleasing to look at but that is not what matters. What matters most is the quality of service that Dr. Chu does to his patient. I made an appointment for both my nine year old son and I with Dr. Chu. She and her staff were very courteous and professional. We were seen at our appointment time, which is priceless for me. In addition, Dr. Chu was very patient with my energetic son. She explained everything to us in full detail (at an adult level for me and at a nine year old level for my son). I was able to comfortably make an informed decision regarding the best options for us (contacts, vs specialized lenses, vs surgery, etc).
