I can't say too much about the Eye Drs here as it was my first eye exam ever so I didn't really know what to expect. But the exam was just fine with no complaints. I can say that the office staff here is awesome. I recently called in to ask a few questions about my exam and prescription that I had done a few years back. I was lucky to reach Laila on my first attempt and she was so nice and helpful. She answered all my questions quickly and very thoroughly. This is a great eye clinic! I wish I knew the name of the man who used the eye machines on me (I'm sorry! If you see this you are great), the woman who worked the front desk was also very kind! I saw Dr. Tang and she was very kind and answered my questions and was very patient! It was suggested I get a picture of the inside of my eye taken (I'm sure there is a more scientific way to explain what was done) and it was done with a machine and my eyes didn't have to be dilated for it! It was really neat and I'm glad it was an offered service. I don't have vision insurance and this appointment with that extra eye imaging was 90 dollars or so! [Facts]: This place offers good pricing for eye exams, the front desk staff and workers are nice, and the wait is short. For contact lenses and no insurance, it is $99. They offer fair trials to try different brands. The optical shop and its staff are also very helpful. Scheduling is easy breezy. Plus this is in Costco, so you can do your shopping or enjoy the samples (tehe). [Feelings]: I have met both easy going and not so nice doctors here. Just a fair warning: I recommend you request one of the other eye doctors and not Dr. Yen Valanima. Questions are, unfortunately, perceived attacks. Dr. Smithsuvan does not see patients anymore I repeat Dr. Smithsuvan does not see patients anymore. There are only 2 doctors here. Nancy is one I believe but I did not see her. I was seen by the other one that has received nice reviews but my experience wasn't so nice. I was probably asking to many questions and got on her nerves. I guess I wasn't following her complete request. I started to feel uneasy because of the way she spoke to me during the exam. There were assumptions made that I absolutely did not feel comfortable with. I eventually just gave up and asked her how did she want me to answer her questions because I don't want to answer her incorrectly or upset her anymore and I wanted the exam to just end! I should've just left. I was very disappointed. The receptionist and young lady that did the pre-exam were extremely kind and courteous. Very sweet young people. Very respectful. I definitely wasn't the right type of patient for her and I'm not paying to get that type of service from a professional on paper. Unbelievable At least I know now. We went to a place on Lomita blvd. Last year and had terrible service so we thought we'd try this place after the new year so we could get our free glasses. The staff was great and they did a great job getting us out quickly. Excellent job getting my prescription correct. read more

My father has seen Dr. Nancy Bakhoum at this office for many years. He has always been okay with his glasses, but my dad doesn't complain much. We moved last year & had to go see a different eye doctor. That was when I realized that we never had so many tests done on my father before. My father's new eye doctor told him he has cataracts & glaucoma in both eyes. His new doctor told him that glaucoma is a serious eye disease & he probably has had it for a few years now. Dr. Nancy never told us that my father had any eye disease. I am so upset that all these years we were paying for an eye exam that involved barely any testing. If you care about your eyes, do not go to a place that gives you a low budget eye exam. read more

watch out here, if you get a doctor who is awful, nothing good can happen to you here. BEWARE OF DR. YEN VALANIMA, who is rude and does a dishonest job at her exams. She looked at photos of my eyes that were not the right ones, she rushed through an exam and wrote me an incorrect prescription. I had to come back a week later to get photos done because she was not looking at my correct photos and she was even more rude and inconvenienced. She is the worst I have ever experienced and when I called the office manager to let them know, I was told this was a "miscommunication" and maybe Dr. Yen was having an off day and Dr. Yen is actually really "nice." Anyone can turn on the charm and be "nice" when they want, I'm not on a date with Dr. Yen, I'm a patient here to get my eye exam and if you don't do your job as an optometrist and on top of that are disdainful and angry at that, you have completely failed. I decided to get my eyes checked while I waited for my tires to get serviced. Even though they were fully booked they kindly squeezed me in when I told them I had lots of time to spare. I did the full eye exam which included dilation of pupils, retina photos and visual field test. Dr. Copilevitz and the gentlemen in the front area were very kind and thorough with each process of the exam. I will definitely come back next year. read more

Thank you Dr. Tracy Wong! I've move around so I've seen different optometrists, but none are as thorough as Dr. Wong. I heard a lot of great things about her and after reading all the reviews, I decided to make an appointment specifically to see her and I couldn't be happier. Nothing gets past her because she was the only optometrist to ever ask me about certain issues from childhood. How did she know?!?! No one had ever detected or was able to differentiate between my tiny scar from childhood injury vs adult habits of not shutting my eyes all the way when I sleep. I was surprised to see 1 negative review from someone who freaked out that she was so thorough with them and pointing out all their potential issues based on signs that she saw. Well, I always want my doctors to be blunt and tell me the truth with what they see so I can take preventive action to care for myself. If you are going to this location, do yourself a favor and ask to see Dr. Tracy Wong. I highly recommend her because she is very knowledgeable with many years of experience! read more

Very popular independent doctor of optometry located inside Costco Torrance This Costco location is extremely busy as is their optical and this independent doctor of optometry. I've been going here for 11 years now and Dr. Santi has owned this place since inception of the store I think. As an independent doctor (as required by CA law for chain optical shops) they do not pressure you to buy any particular glasses or lenses nor do they receive any compensation from the Optical. Costco simply collects rent from the office. You don't have to be a Costco member to get an eye exam here. That being said, this location is very busy (which shows that people keep coming back) and is staffed with excellent doctors. The exams are comprehensive (with newer state of the art equipment) but you will feel a bit rushed...there's usually several people waiting at the same time. I've seen Dr. Santi, Nancy, Sheri and Chen here as Dr. Santi is only working a few days a week now with the fill-in doctors in the rest of the days. They have all been friendly and knowledgable...and always got my prescriptions right. Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays are walk-in only days, so they don't accept appointments. Walk-in...and be sure to walk-in early as 10 people or so will sign up right off the bat at opening. Rest of the days you will need to make an appointment. Either way expect to wait 30 minutes to an hour even with an appointment as they do overbook. Insurance is not accepted so if you have a vision plan it will be out-of-network and you will need to seek out manual reimbursement. Exams are fairly priced...$49 for glasses and $89 for contacts. Dilation, Fitting, Visual Fields and Imaging are optional and are extra. The office is very cramped with just 3 chairs so be prepared to wait outside. The good thing is that you could be shopping and they will call you when your turn comes. read more

Saw Dr. Sheri at this Costco optometry office(which may also be referred to as Dr. Santi's practice) Called in for an appointment, locked one in within a week. I showed up maybe 10 mins early, so the assistant quickly knocked out my glaucoma and other prep stuff. Had my exam with Dr. Sheri....she was extremely welcoming, professional, and very patient. Her exam seemed extremely efficient, precise, and she took the time to explain some of the features of the exam. Their office, as she described, is one of the more advanced with respect to technology. The exam equipment is automated, with the optometrist controlling everything from the desktop unit. The slides are all projections. With these two combined, the exam is seemingly effortless. Routine eyeglass exam $49. read more

I called Costco for eye exam. I'm new in the area and thought this would be my best choice for prices! NO IT IS NOT! I was given a price of 49.00 for exam. The when I told them I use one contact (mono vision) on an as needed basis the price went up over 100%. $105.00. This is no discounted price. When I brought this up to her that the price just went up 100% she then said 89.00 (rounding numbers). So what is it, 49.00, 89.00 or 105.00 for an exam. I'm shocked Costco would do business like this. There is no way I will ever step foot into this place. Sounds like a used car sales lot. Get your act together people. Stop charging based on what you can rip people off for. You are off my list. read more

However, as I was shopping at Costco I discovered Dr Tracy Wong is now working at the Optometrist office and scheduled my appointment with her! Yess!! Even closer to home now! Dr Wong is so thorough and patient and makes sure all of your questions and needs are taken care of. In all the years she has been my dr, I have never had an issue with my glasses or contacts prescription! A few months ago my husband came to this office because his eye was red and irritated. Dr. Nancy Bakhoum was his doctor. She told him that his eye was red because it was dry. He asked her if he needed eye medication. She told him that he only needed to use tear drops. A few days after he saw Dr. Nancy, his eye got worse & painful. He went to see another eye doctor for a second opinion. That doctor told my husband that he had a corneal ulcer, not "dry eyes". My husband had to be on eye medications for several weeks. His vision will now be blurry forever because the ulcer left a permanent scar. Dr. Nancy did a quick exam & didn't bother to explain anything to my husband. I don't recommend you come here for your eye exam. You should see a real doctor who actually cares about you and know what she is doing! read more

She is very knowledgeable about what she does and more, she looks out for potential eye disease that may be caused by your health issues. I have never had such a thorough eye exam. Got my prescription here a few weeks ago. Turned out, the axis was a bit off so I had to come in again and get my eyes rechecked. I'd say make sure your script is in order before you leave. Since I was kind of frustrated for having to come in twice, the manager comp'd my contact eye exam! Overall, very helpful service that cares about the patients. Not your typical Costco doctor. I've been to many doctors before and I can't help to feel like they do the minimal and quickly send you on your way. Often times I would stop and ask questions just to see if they'll care enough to answer them thoughtfully and whether they show a genuine concern for my well being. I didn't feel like I had to do that with this doctor since she made a point of sharing with me her findings and explained to me her recommendations. I've been to LensCrafters and any other insurance type optometrist you can imagine, but I always go to this place inside the Torrance Costco. Yes, the exams are a little pricey, but I only need one per year, and I don't mind springing for the extra cash to know I'm being taken care of. Plus, the contacts I use are really cheap at costco, so I just step right outside Dr. Santi's office, and put in an order for contacts at the costco desk. I haven't actually met Dr. Santi, I've always had Dr. Nancy. She is always super nice and really helpful. read more

We are a Costco loving family but this Optometrist doesn't fit with the happy, friendly Costco atmosphere. If you want an eye exam sure you can get that and they are qualified professionals. My wife went in with the kids and came out with what she needed from the Dr visit. But sadly she had a poor experience with Dr. Phillips who's bedside manor gets a failing grade. Bottom line, they will get the job done, but don't bother making small talk. Get in, out, and on with your day. read more

I called in on Monday 1/28 because I was going to walk in for an eye exam. I am glad I called because they were all booked up with appointments. The woman on the phone offers to schedule an appointment for me, which is great. She books me in for Wed 1/30 at 5:40 and I enter it into my appointment calendar. She even gives one last confirmation before getting off the phone. I schedule my day around my 5:40 appointment and get there right on time but there is no doctor and they do not have my appointment on the books. After some searching the girl at the desk found me on the books for Friday. I was very disappointed at the time I wasted and booked an appointment elsewhere. read more

I don't know what the above guy is talking about, my experience with Dr. Santi was not good. First, he was very un-thorough with my exam, which made me unconfortable. I've been to Costco before and have had doctors which communicate, let you know everything that they are doing and what they notice, etc. He only did a prescription check and no physical exam until I asked. Worst of all, when I went to have glasses made at another optical house, I got my glasses back and the prescription was WRONG!!! Totally off. I look at my computer monitor and one side is TALLER than the other. It is not the optical houses' fault, they checked the script to the glasses and they matched. I called back to get it fixed and I get some bs from the receptionist about astigmatism. Just because I have that does not mean I should be walking around in alice in wonderland world. Also, they wanted to give me an appointment 5 weeks out to fix a mistake he made. Avoid...bunch of assembly line optical workers (doctors, receptionists, assistants all included) with no pride in their work. Go pay a little more and have it done right. read more

Knew I had to visit a friend in the area, so planned ahead and made an appointment for a check up. I had Lasik done over 12 years ago, but still try to get a check up every couple years. My doctor was Dr. Tracy Wong. She was wonderful. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with all my questions. Unlike other doctors I've been too, she did not pressure me to get glasses since my vision is fine. Other doctors in the past have said "you need glasses for night driving" which is a load of crap because I can see just fine day or night. Well, it has now taken longer to get my "prioity" redo done that it did to get my original glasses. I don't get it. I called them yesterday for an update and they said it could take another week. Terrible and rude experience with optometrist Lawrence Philips (staff is ok) . Seems this specific doctors intention is to keep your session to 5-10 mins for everyone and he will send you out in 10 mins flat . Since he did not have the contact lens that he himself prescribed so he gave me some other number which made the problem even worse worse. Saw this happening to number of people while waiting. I had a very bad experience at this office. The doctor I saw was very irritated that I didn't have my glasses with me or knew what my old contact lens prescription was. Her name was Dr. Nancy. She had a hard time checking my eyes which made her even more annoyed. She was changing her lenses so fast and I was worried I would get the wrong prescription. Dr. Nancy ended up giving me contacts I can't see good with. The contacts were so uncomfortable that I just threw it away. I just wasted my time and money. I will never come back here again. Dr. Tracy Wong is absolutely great, very thorough and a true professional. I moved to Torrance over a year ago and met with Dr. Wong. During her very thorough exam of my eyes that included a review of my previous records and dilation of both eyes, she found my glaucoma and macular hole. She also treated my husband who had vision issues, including drooping eye lids that impaired his vision. Dr. Wong referred him to the Jules Stein Eye Institute @ UCLA where corrective surgery was done (it was covered by his insurance). My husband looks younger now (I am jealous) and most importantly he can now see much better. We are both very grateful patients. Dr. Wong truly has the patients' best interest at heart. read more
