Tried this small optometry office for an eye exam. The ophthalmologist that I went to for 12 years for an eye/vision exam retired so decided to try out this place... First of call when I called to make an appointment the young lady that answered was very curt and rushed. It was like being at a trivia night. When I got there the day of my appointment she stated that she didn't have any appointment scheduled at that time. I gave her my name and she stated she tried calling me to confirm the appointment and that I gave her the wrong number... so it was my fault she rushed when making my appointment and didn't reback the number to confirm she heard it correctly... which is receptionist duties 101. Waited a bit to see the OD because people walked in whike i was completing the paperwork so they were seen first. Once in the exam room the optometrist started the exam and he was thorough but he never explained what he was doing and just gave me instructions.. or never explained what each part of the exam was for which is what im use to. He did say my eyes were "pretty beat up" and I dont think I'll ever find that diagnosis in any medical book. The opthalmic machine looked old and it was sticky on my forhead asa lean my head on it. The eye paddle I was given to over my eye was also sticky. He told me not to touch my eye to it .... At no point did I see anyone cleaning or disinfecting anything with wipes. He did use a new machine to measure eye pressure that doesn't use a puff of air. After spending a long while going back and forth on the machine trying to get the correct prescription ... because the machine would blurr ... not sure what the issue was but it was frustrating and left the office with a prescription i didn't feel too confident with. Usually I get really nice frames and go all out. but ordered some inexpensive ones online to make sure the prescription worked for me. Not sure ill come back next year. read more

Dr. Jerry is our family optometrist. He is thorough in his examination and explanation of the results. They have a particular machine that looks at the retina and helps the doctor do preventative care. The staff is also friendly. Dr. Wake has a large selection of frames. I usually look through the discontinued and discounted frames. Dr. Wake always makes himself available to make frame adjustments. He will also give you a written prescription so that you can purchase your lenses and frames elsewhere. The price is reasonable for exams. However, the cost of lenses and frames has gone up significantly. read more

Dr. Wake's office is a breath of fresh air from those bright, unoriginal mall optometry chains! I have two pairs of glasses here. One was a frame and lens set and the other was lenses only. Both met my expectations and more due to the quick, friendly and expert service. As some have noted, Dr. Wake can add nosepads to plastic frames to make the glasses stay up and fit better. If you have a small nose and face, you may have issues without glasses slipping down or pushing against your eyelashes. Dr. Wake is also available for any adjustments - just check their hours since they have some days they are closed or afternoons the dr. is out. If you walk by, there is a calendar on the door that is up to date. I pay out of pocket for glasses and I am happy with the quality here. For comparison, I bought expensive designer frames at Lenscrafters and their lenses were horrible! I had them redo the lenses twice b/c they were peeling and the PD seemed off. They said they figured out that they couldn't do my rX on the thin lens I wanted, so I said fine OK, then do the standard thicker lens. But all that did was give me migraines all day. I am pretty sure they didn't have a clue what the problem was. Huge waste of serious $$$. Come here instead. Great service and you don't have to wander in the mall! Plus it is a way to support small businesses. read more

My bf and I stumbled across this optometry on New Years Eve while walking around one of our favorite plaza close to our house. My bf needed a refill on contacts and possibly new, better looking glasses so were just browsing around seeing what kind of selections they had. Pretty large selection by the way! The lady at the desk was super friendly and helpful. She asked my bf if he wanted her to look up his insurance and see what the plan covered and she noticed that his renewal for glasses or contacts ended 12/31. She encouraged him to put in an order for contacts so it wouldn't go to waste and once the new year started, to come back and get new glasses. Perfect timing right? We quickly called my bf's old optometrist, they closed at 1, and they were kind enough to fax over his prescription. We did not feel rushed or anything, even though they too closed at 1. We will be back to pick up the contacts and choose a pair of better looking glasses very soon! read more

Dr. Wake and his staff are a class above the rest! I hate visiting the eye doctor-that darn glaucoma test! I knew I needed a visit when I was using the same pair of glasses I received in 9th grade. I don't have insurance and I had been to LensCrafters who quoted me almost $800 for a pair of glasses, eye exam and two lenses! Not only did they want to drain me of my finances, but they acted as though I was wasting their time. I had a few questions about lenses and which pair would be the reasonable and, the guy at the front desk said if I wanted my questions answered I should make a $90 appointment to see the doctor. I looked at home, at the door, back at him, and ran out the door. I quickly called my friend, whom always bragged about her amazing optometrist. I demanded the number and quickly called to make an appointment. The phone was answered by a lovely, cheerful voice named Sara. She was so sweet and kind and she answered all of my questions that apparently would have cost me $90 at LensCrafters! With a smile in her voice she made me an appointment and I couldn't wait for my visit! I walked into Dr. Wake's with pretty high expectations. I had heard nothing but wonderful things from my friend, and the voice on the other end of the phone made it impossible not to feel optimistic. I was greeted with a hello's from all of the staff. Sara, knew me by first name and remembered our phone conversation-great customer service skills! The office is neat, organized, and wells rocked with all the latest styles and brands. I really appreciate an office with an abundant and diverse selection of optical options. The back office staff was great. They were kind, thorough, and explained everything and answered all of my questions. All of the equipment is clean and in great condition. Dr. Wake is great! He was so detailed and thorough with his exams. He explained everything in great detail. I never felt rushed or unsure about anything. He took his time to make sure I was well informed and happy. I was in such great need of an update in contacts and glasses prescription when I went to see Dr. Wake at the end of last year. The contacts were perfect and I couldn't stop raving about them. But unfortunately I cannot say the same about my glasses. The first refraction wasn't accurate and although he asked me to wear them for a while before fixing the prescription it didn't get any better. A week later I went for a second refraction and when I received the glasses for the second time, something was still not right. The prescription of my glasses did not sit accurately to where my eyes are when looking through the frame/ lens and I have to tilt my head back slightly to see clearly. It was very difficult reaching their office via phone and every time I went in person they were either closed early or had a special circumstance for being closed. Therefore I have given up attempting to fix them for a third time because my Prada frames are not only slightly damaged but also a bit bent from the previous lens changes. Honestly, I was looking for a location closer to home but the countless visits I made did not make this worth it. I will continue to see my previous OD and I highly encourage others to do the same until the customer service and responsiveness increases here. read more

Dr. Wake is amazing but his staff is not good. Dr. Wake seems to be an excellent optometrist but I think he has a high turnover rate of front desk staff. I stated going there over ten years ago and was a loyal customer. I got frustrated when they forgot to call me to pick up my glasses. That may not seem like a big deal to you but when you need glasses, it is huge. I got over that and I talked to the doctor about it. But then, months later, I got some weird advice from one of the ladies at the front desk who I don't think is there any more. I forgot exactly what it was but it had to do with her suggesting I get my eye exam now and wait until my insurance would cover it to order the frames. I took her advice, waited 6 months to order the frames, but she told me to come in and get another eye exam. It was annoying that she had conflicting recommendations, and I was mad at myself for talking to her about it in the first place. I think the staff should be trained to not offer recommendations on when to get examinations and to tell patients to only take advice from the doctor. Then most recently, and this is the last straw, my son's glasses were ready and just sitting there for 2 days when I thought to check in to see if they forgot to call me AGAIN. It happened again. One of the front desk ladies gave a poor excuse and no apology. She gave a half hearted apology after I called again for more clarification but it was too little too late. Dr. Wake is a very good optometrist with a cool looking office, lots of high end designer expensive as well as low cost frames. I recommend you give him a try but don't wait for the staff to call you about your frames and don't get any medical advice from the front desk staff. They don't know what they are doing. read more

dr. wake is awesome. i've visited him and his group since i can remember needing glasses -- so that's what ... nearly 16 years -- and it's always been great service. he answers all of your questions thoroughly yet frankly, and if you mess up at the test where they shoot air into your eye, he's totally nice about it. one time i had to do it like seven times, but he was patient all the way through. and his staff are really wonderful, too. they know my name offhand because i go there so often, but i have the feeling they know everyone's names. i love dr. wake! if you're looking for a top-notch optometrist, come here! read more

They have worst service. Where do I start, took my daughters glasses for repair, the girl that helped me didn't know what she was doing! The other girl had to watch over her! Couldn't determine if the glasses were still under warranty, was suppose to call me the following day! Did not!! I had to call several times to find out, finally she advised me that the glasses "WERE" under warranty, she advised me that there was going to be a $25 co pay to fix them since they were still under warranty! And that they would be ready in 2 weeks!! I never received a call to pick up the glasses! I had to keep calling to get status, after the 2nd time I called , she said they were still getting repaired, and would take another week and she would call me! NOTHING! No call again, called for the 4th time and was advised my glasses were still at the office and were never sent for repair!!! Like are they stupid!! Never going back to this office! Finding frames that fit well, and that you are willing to wear for the long haul can be such a difficult decision...it took me a long time, but in no way did I feel rushed by the staff, in fact, they were instrumental in my choosing! I did not like this office. It started when I received my glasses. I had a hard time seeing and getting headaches but I gave it a chance for 2 weeks as recommended by the doctor. I went back to dr wake and he rechecked my vision, same. So I asked him just to add a little more prescription to it do that I could see comfortably. Ok, I can't say he was rude but I can definitely tell he was annoyed. I didn't like this. If I can't see well I can't see well let's try to fix the problem together. Another thing, the tint on my lenses are already coming off on the edges. I've had them a little over a year. Very POOR quality!!! This has never happened to me and I've had other glasses for a longer period of time. Lens crafters here I come...should have never left you to begin with. read more

When his office relocated we easily transitioned, now traveling the miles to his lovely upscale Gardena office. He solely reserves his vision care for Dr. Wake, making his annual appointment while in Los Angeles... Dr. Wake is the "Exceptional Doctor", a great Optometrist and great person in general. He can sometimes seem reserved but he has a tremendous personality and kindness that is reassuring to his patients.
