I heard about it from a friend of mine, and I took a class where I made a cool sock monkey named Fred. Not a big deal, but now I see all of the other stuff that's available in there. You can take classes for various kinds of cool artsy craftsy things, like glassblowing, pottery, ceramics, jewelry making - and they have a great wood shop. Lots of power tools. If you don't want to take a class, then you can just use their facilities if you already know what you're doing. My class cost $30. It seems like the class costs are really reasonable considering the small class size. The people who work there are a combo of students and regular staff and were really helpful and welcoming. I felt comfortable there and had fun. I'm going to go back and try pottery - I've never done it but there's a beginning class coming up soon. Maybe I can make something better than an ashtray. That class costs $85 for 6 classes. The best way to get info about it is to go to their website - you can sign up for classes online. The website was kind of a pain at first, but eventually I got it to work.

My teacher Mariah was exceptional (the other instructors are also highly regarded), very lively and clear with her demos and her attention to detail made it easy for her to help and situate even practiced throwers with their technique. Everyone elevated each other. There is a special community one feels within a class and also within the greater clay space community. You will meet people at all levels and be amazed by the pros. Speaking for the space itself - Clay Space has it down, very large working areas, plenty of wheels, the firing schedule is clockwork, and the handling of each work is careful and practiced. The owners are highly experienced and can demystify some of ceramic's oddities when you're pushing yourself to try new things. I've never felt crowded out, there are more then enough wheels, tools, resources, as well as multiple work tables/ work rooms. They have individual artists studios as well. I also always liked that they are right next to Whiteaker Printmakers (the owners are amazing people over there as well) - I just love that Eugene has these really excellent art resources, almost unexpectedly but they are some of the best you can find anywhere.

We recruited some friends and the four of us went to Urban Artisan to create our own charcuterie…read moreboards. Megan and Ava welcomed us in and took us to our stations. There, we found our blank untreated cutting boards with our pre selected stencils. This is a very well run and organized crafts shop. An entertaining class for the uncrafty novices as well as the seasoned pro. There is coffee and some wine available as well as soft drinks. Megan is an excellent instructor who is clear and concise as well as helpful and patient. We were walked through the application of our stencils and inks as well as the treatment and sealing of our boards. Then Megan from Charcuterie Boards & Grazing Tables took over and brought out our boxes of cheeses, crackers, fruits and goodies. We were taught how to display and arrange these foods in an artful manner on our boards. We really enjoyed the creative aspect of taking simple household items and arranging them into an outstanding and tempting display. It was a great night out for the Mrs and I and our friends had an entertaining night as well. Full Disclosure, this is actually my 2nd time doing this at this location.

We have been calling the store for a week to set up a private class for glass fusing. We know we…read moreneed to speak to Patricia for this and have left MULTIPLE messages for her to call us back. This was for a special birthday and it's all we wanted to do. Needless to say, we never got a call back, so we were not able to fulfill the birthday wish. The birthday girl and I am severely disappointed, sad and now angry. This is not the experience we wanted or expected. We were in the store six months ago and everyone was falling all over themselves to set up a private class. This isn't how you run a business, it's not how you treat customers, and it's certainly not how you stay in business. The business owner, Cindy, saw my review and said they do not have the staff to offer private classes. Then continued to say to check the website for a form that has info on private events. So which is it? Either you do or you don't. It doesn't matter because they've lost our business and we are now spreading the word to avoid this place because the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. We did get two call backs by the way, one guy told us we needed to talk to Priscilla (who never called us back or would come to the phone) and the other said she taught those classes but wouldn't be available the day we wanted.

However, there were a few cons -- he used cheap acrylic paint (which I understand) but the brushes were also extremely cheap and used to the point where it caused frustration with my painting because the brushes would not do what I envisioned. My spouse, who is an artist, was frustrated by this as well. I also expected a little more guidance than I got as someone who does not do art -- there were certain times I was really struggling and would've benefitted from a more hands-on approach than just letting us do our own thing. I still had fun, but I don't think that for the materials and guidance we got, it was fairly priced at $45 pp. For the experience we got I would've expected to pay closer to $30 pp.
