They are fabulous and authentic teachers. Alseny grew up in Guinea and Andréa lived there for seven years, they know Africa, and it's not just about fitness for them. They have many charitable projects both here and in Guinea and are a fabulous organization to be involved with. One of their projects here involves teaching community dance classes. Let me tell you my story about this... Meeting Alseny and Andréa has changed my life in so many ways. I never expected a dance class to have such a profound effect on my life. I have changed my way of living, changed my major in school (to Anthropology, focusing on dance) and changed my post baby body into a graceful, confident beautiful body again. There are too many rewards to list from this organization! If you are interested in music, take one of their classes (both drum & dance). The rhythms they teach are the roots of many forms of popular music today. The dance classes are perfect for EVERYONE! Yes I said EVERYONE! These are tribal dances, and tribes include all body styles, ages, sex, rhythm or no rhythm, flexible and inflexible! All of the classes not only make me break a sweat like I never have before, I get all of the positive encouragement and energy off the other dancers and the live drumming. They've started a revolution of a dance company inspiring Eugene's finest to have a taste of the performing arts. Without a doubt they are the class of the city, with a variety of dances that spanning a multitude of genres ranging from hip hop to swing to jazz. No local area dance troupe compares to Zapp, as they have a unique distinction of being in a class to themselves. Aside from performing locally in Eugene, they're also world famous touring cities across the United States and Europe. I started taking my daughter to classes at Embody Play Yoga about a year and a half ago and have…read morebeen taking her there ever since. My daughter had recently been diagnosed with ADHD and her therapist had mentioned yoga might help. The classes ended up being much more than just yoga. Leticia integrated mindfulness techniques with yoga and play, creating both a fun and calming atmosphere. My daughter eventually transitioned from not only classes and workshops but individuals sessions, as well. Through practice and the continued perseverance of both her and her teacher, she has grown so much and is able to self-manage and focus much better, all without the use of medication. I cannot recommend Leticia and Embody Play enough!

From the first class I observed, I knew that EPY had something more to offer than a traditional kid's yoga class. During the class, the families weren't just sitting still and learning meditation techniques. They were running around, dancing, making silly sounds; a huge smile spread across everyone's faces. The feeling of bliss and excitement in the room was palpable. My internship taught me that we all learn best when we are able to express ourselves, play and when we feel connected to those around us. EPY has a way of making every person regardless of age, gender, shape, ability or identify feel supported in exploring yoga, art, movement and mindfulness techniques. I loved my experience so much that I decided to take on a yoga teacher role with EPY after finishing my internship. It has been a joy and an honor to work for this company and I would highly recommend the classes to families and children of all ages!

May the 4th Be With You A Eugene Symphony Event,…read moreStar Wars a New Hope The Eugene Symphony is absolutely flawless! True Professionals at their finest, they always leave me amazed. This event was Star Wars in a symphony concert. They performed so well I couldn't believe it. For 2 1/2 hours with not a missed note, skipped beat, not a single flaw. The music was performed seamlessly and perfectly to the showing on the screen. The event did have a comical side to it though. Similar to the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' of years gone by, there were plenty of concert goers in full costume of various characters including those carrying lightsabers. $$TIP$$ Don't be duped by ticketmaster, they are an overpriced middleman service that just increases the cost. We saved $50 each on our tickets by calling the Hult Center directly and they mailed the tickets to us. Avoid Ticketmaster and save some money.

We were treated to a really fun swag bag that included some pre-event snacks, a pair of tickets, an invite to a pre-performance talk and great seats. Even without all of the Elite treatment the Eugene Symphony is truly exceptional. The works that they take on from classical to more modern and even avant garde are impressive and engaging. Having lived in larger metropolitan cities I'm thrilled to have such quality talent in our moderate sized city that attracts world class performers. I will genuinely be spending more time with the Eugene Symphony.
