My boy's first rock show and he only got roughed up by one shi**y person

It's a little small, it's a little dirty, but y'all... it's FUN. Parking is easy in the garages nearby, it's in a fun area of the city, and if you get there early you won't be stuck in the longest outside lines Ever. I went here in my early twenties when I still lived in WA and realized last night that huh, I Have been here before! Acoustics are Good Enough, you're definitely going to want earplugs for a rock show, but whether it's a heavy metal band or a Faerie Ball (it was a long time ago), you're going to have fun. The floor gets crowded, and your night will depend largely on the type of people who go to whatever you bought tickets for, but that's not on the venue. The balcony upstairs works well for a bar, I like how easy it is to keep it separate from the youth when it's an all ages show, and when seating is GA, the balcony gives you a chance to sit down if you're wily enough to grab a chair. The bathroom situation is small but clean (I only use the ladies so someone else will have to fill you in on the other side), and the secondary room makes it easy to wait in line comfortably. That second room is also great for fancy attire adjustment and accoutrement application should you go to that sort of thing. All in all we will be perfectly happy going again the next time something rolls through we want to see.

The historic McDonald Theatre truly is an atmospheric and fitting venue for a mid-sized college town. Opened in 1925 and owned by the Kesey family (same as the renowned author) it originally served as a cinema house until the early 2000s. Since being converted to an all-purpose venue, it offers a mixture of live concerts, stage performances, weddings, proms, and other entertainment and celebratory events to the local community. Keeping with the classic feel of last-century architecture and ambiance, the interior has large vaulted ceilings and plenty of open space. This in turn amplifies the acoustics during live shows, making it an especially popular scene for hip hop, EDM, and reggae music. The main floor is standing room only, which encourages free movement and dancing. A seated balcony area looms above, which is reserved for those patrons over 21 due to the serving of alcohol. In additional, the venue also offers a fashionable separate full bar area which includes an outdoor smoking space. Over the years I've personally seen many shows at this establishment and have come to appreciate it. Although it offers nothing to knock your socks off, its yester-year feel and great acoustic quality keep me coming back for live music and artists old & new.

We really enjoyed this small, yet inviting theater. The live music sounded great, almost like a private show. The line to get in and the line at the bar was quick and easy. The downside was only having one bathroom. Be sure to go before the show! ;)

The stage, proscenium and lighting are gorgeous, the mezzanine is fantastic and the bar up there is awesome to have access to.

If you're considering using the Wildish Theatre for your performance or production, think twice…read more The Majestic Theatre is a far better choice, as The Wildish, even though we were doing what's called a "door deal," no rent to the theater, just splitting the take at the door, refused to split $500 in radio advertising expense, didn't put our show listing on the website until 2 weeks before the show, and only then because I pointed out it wasn't there! They insisted that they just put the show in the Caledar listing at the Register Guard and the EUGENE Weekly, and did social media marketing (though I saw none until the week of, and only on Facebook). We sold 50 tickets. We took the same show to The Majestic Theatre in Corvallis the next night. They advertised on Bicoastal Media radio Stations and got us a story, for our "Baby Boomer Comedy Show," in the local paper, and did a wonderful job of social media marketing, we sold 287 tickets (300 is a sellout). We had the same split the door deal with The Majestic, so at $18 a person, the Theatre made $2,066. The Wildish, I believe in part because the listing didn't make it to the scroll on the website until two weeks before the show (and it might not have made it then if a friend hadn't texted me and said he couldn't buy tickets), I didn't see any social media posts until a week before the show (and only on Facebook) and though we offered to split the cost of radio advertising, none was done, the Wildish netted $605, less than a third of the net for The Majestic, at $2 more per ticket. That's the second time we've brought the show to the Wildish (same lack of promotion the first time as well), and it will be our last. Not sure where the disconnect is when it comes to the Board of Directors realizing that with a "door deal" the theater has skin in the game and needs to step up and promote the show. The Majestic, operated by the City of Corvallis, gets that, in spades. If the Wildish hasn't gone out of business by the time you read this, I'd suggest finding another venue.

I've had a good view both times despite not paying for expensive seats. The sound is always good and the volunteers do a great job with crowd control. The parking garage egress is always especially smooth - huge props to the folks who direct traffic there! They pause exiting traffic to let you out if you have to back out on the first level, something I personally appreciate as I always get anxious parking in the hardest to exit part of a garage.

When you arrive from the south (as we did) you are met with a giant staircase to enter. Turns out there is a ramp on the north side. You wouldn't know that though, as there is nary a sign to be seen. Once you go around the building you can get in. There are metal detectors. They're sort of unattended though, or at least the people working them are far on the other side. What's a wheelchair to do? We tried getting someone's attention and eventually they irritatedly told us to just go through. We did. Not sure what kind of metal detectors those are supposed to be when the fully metal wheelchair didn't set them off. Now... our tickets are on the mezzanine. How do we get there? Lots of stairs.... No signs for an elevator. Had to ask around. There is one- way around the corner. It's small, old, and slow. But we got there. No bathrooms on the mezzanine though. Too bad for us. Then, after the show... the elevator.... There's a sign telling able bodied people to take the stairs.... But they don't. They just look at us sheep faced as they come down from the higher balconies packed full so we can't get in. No attendant or anything, no staff member to tell them no, so... us folx with wheelchairs and canes and walkers, we just wait for all the able bodies to get down. (And of course not all disabilities are visible. But their eyes told us their guilt.) We were there to see Tig Notaro. I think she'd be ashamed of some of her fans. And the venue. Do better.
