They are fabulous and authentic teachers. Alseny grew up in Guinea and Andréa lived there for seven years, they know Africa, and it's not just about fitness for them. They have many charitable projects both here and in Guinea and are a fabulous organization to be involved with. One of their projects here involves teaching community dance classes. Let me tell you my story about this... Meeting Alseny and Andréa has changed my life in so many ways. I never expected a dance class to have such a profound effect on my life. I have changed my way of living, changed my major in school (to Anthropology, focusing on dance) and changed my post baby body into a graceful, confident beautiful body again. There are too many rewards to list from this organization! If you are interested in music, take one of their classes (both drum & dance). The rhythms they teach are the roots of many forms of popular music today. The dance classes are perfect for EVERYONE! Yes I said EVERYONE! These are tribal dances, and tribes include all body styles, ages, sex, rhythm or no rhythm, flexible and inflexible! All of the classes not only make me break a sweat like I never have before, I get all of the positive encouragement and energy off the other dancers and the live drumming. It is so awesome to dance in front of 10 well organized drummers! I could just keep going and going, I love these guys! The University of Oregon has a great theatre program and turns out some really well done…read moreperformances in the recently renovated Miller Theatre Complex, easily accessible from E. 11th Avenue, just between Kincaid and Franklin Blvd. I'm surprised that more people, UO students included, don't know about the UT. I have seen several shows there and have enjoyed the variety of titles and styles of plays performed, the wonderful talent of the student actors, creative talents of the set designers and costumers, and skill of the lighting and sound technicians. The Robinson Theatre offers a traditional theatre with great seats and great visibility and sound. The smaller Hope Theatre is a flexible-space venue whose setup changes with each show, and can be configured in a variety of ways which creates a unique theatre experience for patrons. The spacious lobby offers leather couches and ottomans, displays to peruse at intermission, affordable concessions, and several accessible restrooms. This season, UO students can get free tickets to any UT show! Why wasn't this around when I was in school? This event was Star Wars in a symphony concert. They performed so well I couldn't believe it. For 2 1/2 hours with not a missed note, skipped beat, not a single flaw. The music was performed seamlessly and perfectly to the showing on the screen. The event did have a comical side to it though. Similar to the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' of years gone by, there were plenty of concert goers in full costume of various characters including those carrying lightsabers. $$TIP$$ Don't be duped by ticketmaster, they are an overpriced middleman service that just increases the cost. We saved $50 each on our tickets by calling the Hult Center directly and they mailed the tickets to us. Avoid Ticketmaster and save some money.

We were treated to a really fun swag bag that included some pre-event snacks, a pair of tickets, an invite to a pre-performance talk and great seats. Even without all of the Elite treatment the Eugene Symphony is truly exceptional. The works that they take on from classical to more modern and even avant garde are impressive and engaging. Having lived in larger metropolitan cities I'm thrilled to have such quality talent in our moderate sized city that attracts world class performers. I will genuinely be spending more time with the Eugene Symphony.

Then, less than a week before the event, they admitted they had double-booked the date because they put it on the wrong day in their calendar. That's fine. Sometimes things like that just happen. Instead of making it right, they wanted the band that booked first to move their show to 2:00 in the afternoon on a Thursday. That's ridiculous. People weren't traveling to Eugene to watch an afternoon set while they're at work. The band tried to work with them. They suggested combining the shows, asked to talk it through, and then got ignored. After that, when people started calling out how badly this was handled, the response from the venue wasn't an apology--it was telling people to "eat shit." That's honestly what changed this from a scheduling mistake into a venue I don't want to support. Everyone screws up sometimes. Most businesses own it and try to fix it. Campbell Club chose to insult the very people who were trying to bring customers through their doors. If you're planning to travel for a show here, I'd think twice. I won't be making that mistake again. Also-- their Instagram says they are a nonprofit organization, it's not.

Less than a week before the event, the venue informed the local band that they had accidentally double-booked the date. According to the band's shared messages, the venue had the incorrect date in its calendar and didn't realize the mistake until the last minute--even though the event had been advertised on their website for over a month. The proposed solution was to ask the band to play earlier in the day as part of a festival, which is not what anyone had planned or paid to attend. It's a Thursday. Nobody's going to see a show at 2pm. Mistakes happen, but waiting until people have already spent money on hotels, travel, and time off before announcing a cancellation is unacceptable. This especially hurts local bands that rely on these opportunities and the fans who support them. I understand accidents happen, but communication and accountability matter. Based on this experience, I can't recommend this venue and won't be planning future trips around events hosted here.
