Staff are super nice!!! Food & service, just about everything was great! The fruit tart looked so pretty so I had to order it. BTW Blueberries were huge. My bf was a little displeased that they don't serve hash browns but the potatoes were still good. The other thing I enjoyed is their chai tea. I personally don't like my chai tea to be soooo spicy and this place does it wonderfully, it's milky chai. Is the best way I can describe it. After waiting 50 minutes for a table I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. Sadly we were let down. The good: the hot chocolate The bad: There is staff cutting fruit with no gloves. Multiple employees not wearing masks in the kitchen. We had to ask 4 times for water and 2 of the cups had dirt in the bottom. They didn't bring us enough silverware. The final nail in the coffin was my biscuits and gravy were cold and I felt sick after. This was a huge letdown and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. I should've just went to McDonald's and I would've at least got hot food. This really goes to show why they only got an "Okay" on their food safety rating. Here's the breakdown: 1) The bread here is amazing -- truly one of my favorites. 5/5 stars. 2) The food is mediocre, as in mushy home fries and sloppily poached eggs. 3/5 stars and 3) They are under new mgmt, and it shows. The new mgnt doesn't give a crap about their customers. A 1/5 stars. I ordered a bit past 8 am on Caviar to get an Eggs Benedict, French bread, Jewish Rye, Pain au Levain, and Swiss Peasant bread. The order arrived half an hour later, and we only got two out of four of our breads. Feeling disappointed, I called the restaurant and told them that I wish that they had simply called me, so I could substitute a loaf or so. The manager offers a half-hearted sorry and offers to reserve a loaf of French bread for me in the future... So basically a polite "We don't care." Had the manager just even offered to sub a loaf for me, I would've been happy to pay and pick it up, but absolutely no real solution was given. My fiancé and I are both former restaurant workers, so we understand that things run low in stock, but for a Saturday brunch crowd, you should be fully stocked and ready to rock with your A-Team staff. Heck, my fiancé is a former restaurant owner, and we both know it's just basic courtesy to call the customer when things run out to offer a substitute. I've been going to Wild Wheat since I was in High school, I'm 27 now. Their bread and jams are SO GOOD. I will say that my earlier visits have been slightly better as compared to my recent ones. I always get the Eggs Benedict w/home fries, there was one time that I came in a little too late for brunch, I ordered their fish and chips and definitely was not disappointed. I would say there's only been one time where my poached eggs were overdone, out of the like, 20 times that I have been here, which is to be expected of any place really where human beings are preparing the food. There's always good days and bad days. Overall I think Wild Wheat is a great brunch spot considering its location. read more

We're locals and gave this place three visits before deciding how we felt about it. The first time I just wanted bagels and found this place as a bakery; when I saw they were packed for sit-down breakfast I planned to go back the next day to try it. We then tried it again a couple weeks after, and only after that did we look at existing reviews. The wide-ranging reviews here are right. The food is good, but the service is all over the place. When we just walked in for bagels I did feel the wait for them was a bit long but chalked it up to them toasting them first. The bagels were good and the slice of coconut cake we got was also good. The first time we went for the sit-down breakfast we waited half an hour for a table but service was fine afterwards. The initial wait was fine as it was a breakfast/brunch place on a Sunday morning so that's to be expected. The food was fine, not amazing but good. The blintzes were nice and not something I've seen at other places. The biscuits and gravy were adequate, not the best we've had but not the worst. Everything was plated nicely. Ambience is a bit basic but there's some art on the walls. Tables are a bit packed together. We realized after that we got non-bakery foods at a bakery-centric restaurant and planned to go back to try again. The second time we went for the sit-down breakfast we were seated right away, though I'll echo a previous review and say we were "pointed" right away by the kid at the front to our table. We were given waters and menus, and ordering didn't take too long. We ordered the eggs benedict and the French toast, two items that utilize their custom bread. The eggs benedict came out at a reasonable time, delivered by a second server, but no French toast with it. We thought it'd be out soon after but wound up waiting at least 20 minutes with nothing. No one came to our table during that time to check on us and while my husband's coffee was dutifully refilled (by a boy that looked maybe 13 years old) water was never refilled. We managed to flag down our original server to check what was going on with the French toast and she said she'd check on it. A few minutes later a third guy (who we'd never seen out on the floor so I assume was kitchen staff) came over and asked "are you missing French toast?" which we confirmed yes we still were. More waiting, then finally a fourth server, not the one we asked to check on the status I might add, came over and dropped off the French toast. No apology for the wait, just "here it is." Our original server eventually came over and mumbled out an apology that was mostly her laughing it off in a "sorry but these things happen, haha" kind of way with no explanation for what happened. We both tried the French toast and admittedly it was good, the bread seems quality, but at that point I had already finished my own meal and my husband's appetite was pretty much gone from irritation. Still no water refills by the way. When a server did finally show up to ask how things were and drop off the check, I asked if we could get an explanation for what happened and was given a long spiel about meals sometimes going to the wrong table and how they won't just take them back if that happens, which obviously we would never request that and didn't request that. This was us giving them an opening to give us a real apology and/or offer some kind of compensation, but instead of being offered anything we were just given a lecture on the intricacies of serving and how they have some new staff. Though at the same time we were told our original server (who like most of the staff looked fairly young) was actually the manager? And if that's the case it's even worse she couldn't give a real apology to a customer and essentially ran away after we asked for a status update. After that my husband was even more irritated and couldn't even finish his order. We paid and left (no terribly long wait for that I might add) but the whole experience ruined our morning. We've decided if we ever do get food from here again it's going to be takeout-only so we don't have to deal with their incompetent and possibly underage staff. I love breakfast food, and overall it doesn't take much to make me happy at breakfast, but this was absolutely the exception. I even considered one star, but settled on two. This place is ALWAYS busy on weekends and is well regarded in the community and has typically been well reviewed, but after yesterday, I just don't understand why. And this is ONLY for the restaurant, not the bakery/pastry part of the place. First, the good: -they had peanut butter, which a lot of places don't -they make their own Pico de Gallo, which is a must for me in a breakfast place, but unfortunately it had very little flavor -Melissa, our server, was fantastic. Very nice, very communicative ahead of time about some shortcomings of the restaurant, and proactive. She was really cool. -The young guys refilling water and clearing plates were nice and did a good job -their water was oddly good. Don't know why, but very clean tasting. That's it, that's the good. I tried to come up with as much as I could The place is your typical older, no frills breakfast place that could use some updating, but I really don't care about that as long as it's clean and the food is good. Right out of the gate we ordered diet cokes (we don't drink coffee so that's our caffeine) and were told they have a problem with their carbonation on the diet coke and it's flat and has been for some time. Appreciate the heads up so we didn't waste our money, but if it's a known problem, and you're doing a good volume, get it fixed. At least they had lemonade as an option to pivot to The menu looked great and we were excited to each get some omelets and pancakes instead of toast. Were told that the substitution would just be a small dollar sized pancake, so we opted for the side of pancakes, which is three decent sized pancakes which was $13 (more on pricing later) Asked about sugar free syrup and told they have been out of it, despite having a lot of diabetic regulars. Weird, why not go get some? Not a biggie, but things starting to add up. Since we still didn't really want the toast we were told we could get fruit instead, so we said "great, we'll have the fruit". But it was $1 extra. I guess I get the pricing but maybe don't offer that as a "substitution" I asked for salsa or pico with my omelet and was happy to learn it was homemade, but then was told they would make that the substitution for my toast so I wouldn't be charged extra. For a condiment? Don't recall ever being charged for salsa/Pico as a side with breakfast so found that odd. Wife got the crab and asparagus omelet as she loves crab and was excited because it also had cream cheese in it. I'm a meat guy and got the meat omelet that had some veggies and cheese as well, and was advertised as having their "housemade chicken apple sausage" in it, which sounded great. Both came with the "home fries". All looked good, but that's it. Both omelets were filled with a lot of meat and veggies, so that's good, but were very dry, with almost no cheddar in mine and we couldn't find any evidence of cream cheese in hers. The crab was very "fishy", making wonder about how fresh it was. She eats crab often, and that's the first time I've heard her describe it that way. Without the cream cheese it was way too dry and the eggs themselves had no flavor, as if they weren't seasoned at all. She ate maybe 1/3 of it. The meat in mine was fair with chewy bacon and the housemade sausage was a disappointment. Veggies were fine but almost no cheese made it dry also and same issue with the eggs. Slathered with the Pico but it also just didn't have much flavor and didn't add anything. The "home fries"? Potato chunks that were mush and burned all at the same time, with also very little seasoning or flavor. Two bites and I was done with those. Then there were the pancakes which were flat, not at all fluffy, and had very little flavor either. My wife makes better pancakes with the plain Better Homes and Garden's cookbook recipe, by a wide margin. And it came with those little butters in foil packets. Really? Come on, got to do better as a breakfast restaurant. Not worth the $13 Which brings me to the end, the pricing. Omelets were $26 and $22. Total breakfast for two was $67!! Really? We love Whistle Stop in Renton and their breakfasts are $12-$15 and a WHOLE lot better. Overall, just an unsatisfying disappointment and will not be back. Bummer read more

My friend and I were trying to decide on a place to meet up for breakfast, and she finally decided on this place, which she had bookmarked for a while. I stopped by here years ago to check out the bakery and remember it being very busy. We came here on a Sunday at 11:30am, and as I expected, it was really packed and busy. When I put my name on the waiting list, I counted 16 names still waiting ahead of me. We waited about 30 min before we got a table. We both decided on the Dungeness Crab and Asparagus Omelet ($21.00). We both thought the omelet was pretty good, but decided our home fries were the best thing on our plates. I liked the variety of options for the toast, and enjoyed my Whole Wheat Hazelnut Currant toast with the jam that was on the table. We were pretty full by the time we finished our plates, and satisfied. Staff was friendly, but not as attentive, and it was understandable because it was very busy. After receiving our food, the waiter did not come back again until I was done and he came to grab my empty plate. I then asked him for more water, which the glass had been sitting there empty for some time, and that also took some extra time. My eggs were poached so badly. The yolk was not runny and a lot of the whites were missing. There wasn't even enough ham to cover the bread. This dish was a disappointment but at least the potatoes were good. I also didn't like that it was served on a slice of bread as opposed to an English muffin, the shape just doesn't work. The omelette was even more disappointing. It had a terrible texture. It tasted like it came from liquid eggs. Texture was light but in a homogenous way. I really hate to be writing this, because it used to be my favorite restaurant when we lived in the area. I waited long enough to pass my judgement, but this place has turned from a quaint European-like cafe with delicious food, outstanding service, and ambient vibes into a noisy fast-food joint (except it's everything, but fast) with questionable and inconsistent food quality & poor service. I will describe several occurrences to back up my opinion. 1. A year ago, my husband ordered a take-out with my favorite smoked salmon omelet, along with a meat omelet for himself. The salmon was way over salted, the potatoes were undercooked( literally half-raw crunchy stuff), the egg was over-cooked and rubbery. His omelet was very underwhelming as well. I wrote it off as an odd unpleasant experience, and refused to give up hope on this place. We've been it's loyal customers for a very long while some years ago, after all. 2. A few weeks back, we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to grab some sandwiches to go. It was very hot (no A/C, no fans running inside btw), the place was super loud and crowded. After I waited in line for 20 mins, and tried to make my order of 3 grilled cheese sandwiches (for the kids), wild smoked salmon Reuben (for myself), and a pastrami Reuben (for my husband), I was informed that they serve only breakfast on weekends, and they can't make sandwiches. Yes, not even the grilled cheese, which would literally require them to put 2 slices of bread ( which they had in abundance) with some cheese in between in a panini press. The girl at the register was rude and dismissive. At 11:30am their fridge was practically empty of any croissants, savory pastries or cookies, so I left empty handed. The information about them serving only breakfast on the weekend is not communicated anywhere on their website or mass media pages, unless I completely missed it. 3. And here's the drop that spilled the glass for me. It's our 12th anniversary for my husband and I. 12 years ago a dear friend of mine, who used to work her way through college at Wild Wheat, gave us Marjolene (Marjolaine) cake as an after-wedding gift for us. And it was amazing! Everything was just right about it. The perfect combination of delicate hazelnut merengue married to rich chocolate buttercream, enveloped in the most decadent chocolate ganache. This cake was the embodiment of my childhood memories from when we would go out to a French bakery with my mom. It became a dessert staple whenever we'd go to Wild Wheat since. So, it became the most obvious dessert choice to celebrate our anniversary this year. I ordered the cake in advance by phoning in, not asking for any changes in the standard design or decor. I just asked for a simple signage "Happy Anniversary" on top. When I came to pick up the cake today it was not signed, and instead or the standard hazelnuts, it had almond slivers around it. That raised the alarm for me, so I double checked with the cashier that it was indeed the Marjolene. He assured me that it was just a different decor that they chose, but the cake inside was indeed the Marjolene. I asked if they could still sign it for me, since it hadn't been done. He said I'd have to wait for 10 mins, but they would do it. Lo and behold, 37 mins later, after 2 attempts ( first time it looked like my toddler got ahold of the frosting and decided to write smth on a cake- which would be cute if it was indeed my toddler, and not a patisserie chef writing that) of doing the signage, I walked out of the cafe. Sure enough, when we cut into the cake tonight, it was anything and everything, BUT Marjolene. I would assume we got the Chocolate Mousse Cake, but in all honesty it looked like smth you would pick up last minute at you local Safeway. The bottom sponge was soggy, the mousse looked like undercooked pudding, literally falling apart the second you cut into the cake, the top sponge was dry, and the frosting tasted like one of those quick out-of-the box mixes. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. I spent an hour in traffic both ways, driving to the cafe and back home, paid $50+tax+tips, to get something I never wanted, and ruin a highly anticipated by the family dessert time on a special for us holiday. If Mark Handman is reading this review, I hope something is going to change about the restaurant, because I remember talking to him on multiple occasions when the place had just opened up, and he was literally living and breathing this business, nurturing it to life. I love Wild Wheat bakery, & I'm staying loyal to their breads that we always get at our local Whole Foods & Central Market, but I will urge everyone I know to STAY AWAY from their cafe/restaurant, until/unless it returns to its former consistent outstanding quality. First time at this place. We went to another restaurant before this but they were too busy so Yelp found this place for us. Best decision we've made this week. The portions are huge and everything we ordered was delicious. The orange juice tasted like it was freshly squeezed minutes before it was served. The potatoes were seasoned well with just the right amount of crispiness. The Quiche Lorraine; moist and flavorful. I couldn't leave without finishing my hazelnut latte. It was a delicious start to my day. The staff was professional, prompt and very friendly. The restaurant is clean and lends to an old town feel with the whole neighborhood congregating there on the weekends to catch up on the latest and greatest. The wait was about 15-20 mins for two people, as expected. Between us two, we ordered the meat omelet and the pancakes with added strawberries. The omelet was really tasty with every bite as well as the potatoes that came with it! The pancakes were a bit of a let down. There wasn't anything special about them. The real maple syrup was a good touch but even some bites of the strawberry were too sweet even without maple syrup. I'd come back for omelets and maybe other savory items. The description of it was: Sesame coated, seared rare ahi tuna. Served on a bed of baby greens with julienne carrots, avocados and a carrot ginger dressing The tuna was not seared rare...it was straight up cooked right through and very dry (see the image of not pink tuna). Though the dressing was good, paying $21 (very overpriced) for a salad that isn't made correctly was pretty unrewarding. The whole reason for getting the salad was the seared ahi. I can serve up salad greens any old day myself. And back to it being overpriced, since Covid, their prices on their menu have shot way up. I visited on a Friday morning- it wasn't busy and there was plenty of staff and it ranks in my top 5 WORST restaurant experiences. I waited 10 minutes for a cold drip coffee, another 15 minutes for someone to take my order, only to receive a cold, tasteless omelette that I couldn't eat. My coffee cup was empty for most of my visit and no one checked back in on me. I was pretty sure that no one was ever coming back and when I went to the counter and asked for it, the person who was in charge told me that the server would bring it.... So I waited some more....for nothing. I will never return nor will I buy their products in local stores. My son and I come here for breakfast often on his days off. We treat ourselves to fabulous choices and have tried nearly all of them. My son 's favorite is the salmon omelet and I love both of the quiches. However, you can't go wrong on anything. The atmosphere is delightful with fresh flowers on each table and unique pictures on the walls. The manager, Raman, is always checking to make sure we are getting the best service possible and we have never been disappointed. The hostesses are so friendly and we feel like family when we come in. The servers are willing to make additions etc. when we ask. They bake all of the pastries and breads there and I love picking out a few to take home. If you have a special party coming up, the Chocolate Mousse cake is unbelievable! We love the food here. It really is top notch. However - gird your loins when coming here. The service is terrible. You have to beg them to refill coffee. And then you discover that there is none brewed. A breakfast place without coffee at the ready is problematic. I'd understand if this were a one-off, but it's been this way since before Covid - so they can't blame it on labor shortages. The waitstaff isn't trained to work efficiently. They walk back to the kitchen empty handed a lot. Service 101 is to always be bringing something or taking something away, whether the bill, dishes, etc - especially whenever busy. Like I said above, the service here isn't a new problem. We've been coming here for the food and quirky atmosphere for a while. And, we're glad that Kent has a good breakfast place. It's popular enough to give the ownership no motivation to improve their management style. So, we just resign ourselves to having to ask for coffee refills, terse managers, and embarrassingly disorganized workflow. All said, the eggs Benedict is really good. They have a very nice, light hollandaise that I look forward to. All of the omelettes are also worth trying. read more

Known for their breakfast, but the burger was awesome! My friend who lives in the area picked this place, as I met up with her for lunch while in Kent for a meeting. I'm not too familiar with Kent's dining scene, but based off of my first visit to Wild Wheat Bakery Cafe and Restaurant, this place seemed to be super popular among the locals. I first walked in and the place was packed. There is a counter where you can get breads and pastries to go, but most of the tables inside were filled. I was here during the weekday for an early lunch, around 11:30, and it seemed like most everyone inside was still eating their breakfast. My friend and I took the last table out on the patio and they had just changed to the lunch menu, which didn't bother us. The lunch menu has a good selection of sandwiches, soups, salads and other entrees. Since my friend is a frequent diner at Wild Wheat, she stuck with her favorite, which is the Quiche while I ordered the Gourmet Cheese Burger. Before the food arrived, we were given complimentary bread. But it didn't take too long to get our entrees. The Gourmet Cheese Burger was delicious! I ordered this bad boy with a side of fries, which were perfectly fried and had a nice black pepper seasoning to them. The burger is a half-pound, so was just what I needed for my first meal of the day; and you could easily tell it was freshly grounded in-house. I requested it to be cooked medium-rare, which it was. Done and done! I also really liked the white cheddar melt on it, which isn't common among cheese burgers. The onion mayo was also a nice change-up, too. Although Wild Wheat is known for their bakery, I was surprised that I didn't like the house-made bun. The texture was too stiff for me, forcing me to tear off most of the bun and eat the burger with a knife and fork at the end since the patty was hefty! It was a good burger though and would recommend it if you're thinking of ordering it. Mmmm hmmm! Glad to have visited Wild Wheat while in the area and love that it's a neighborhood spot in downtown Kent with more than just a brunch offering. read more

This restaurant is wildly expensive for the atmosphere and the menu. It looks like a diner but most items are $25 and up. We were shocked! Additionally the service is terrible- extremely slow (we waited over 15 minutes just to get our coffee after ordering it) and the restaurant was mostly empty. There is no wifi available (we were hoping to do some work while we were there) After sitting over 15 minutes with no coffee and no check-ins by staff, we left. So I can't comment on the food. The whole experience was extremely disappointing. If you want a good breakfast diner, go to Maggie's on Meeker, they are affordable and the service is great! read more

This place's service has been deteriorating in the past year. Staff always seems overwhelmed and a bit rude, perhaps because they are understaffed. While the food remains good quality, I also think it's overpriced. Their strange menu hours make it challenging to know when to go for the right items. read more
