Decided to try this location after driving by it timeless times. The inside has the option for hibachi or regular dining. When we stopped her for a weekend lunch, the hibachi tables were not open. The service was great, but we were not a huge fan of the food. The flavor on one meal wasn't what we were expecting, as it seemed as if they drenched their chicken in sauce. The menu was quite diverse, everyone in our group was able to satisfy their picky eater tastes. The waitress was friendly and the service was pretty decent for a Sunday lunch crowd. The atmosphere was family friendly and calm. We were able to enjoy a conversation and not feel like we had to yell to be heard. I wanted to like this place. They call themselves a Thai restaurant but their pad Thai is horrible. There is no tang to the dish and it lacks any sort of seasoning. I saved the leftovers for my dog who isn't too concerned if a dish tastes right. Drunken noodles were all vegetables (thick cut too) and the noodles are strange. They look more like pasta fettuccini than wide rice noodles. The beef was tender and overall this dish would've tasted better as a stir fry because it was so watery with sauce. The fried tofu appetizer was dull. Was expecting the Japanese fried tofu but instead got anemic looking tofu slices with a side of egg roll dipping sauce. How do I know it's the egg roll dipping sauce? Because we ordered those too and the sauce was the same. Service was good. They came around a few times to check on us. They have hibachi here too though we didn't try it. Perhaps if they focused on one Asian cuisine, they'd might do better. If you're looking for Thai go around the corner across from Buskens on Madison. At least the pad Thai there has a taste. read more

Really fresh sushi and sashimi. Generous slices of fish, platters, Salads, and sides. We ordered the deluxe sashimi platter and asked for seaweed salad instead of rice. They were happy to do this even when the seaweed salad was $6 a la cart. So generous. To top it off you get there delicious miso soup or salad. The salad here comes with that signature ginger dressing that I could live off forever! We also ordered The spicy tuna salad which is excellent! There was plenty of food for the two of us. I'd love to write only positive reviews but customer service and quality needs to improve which is what I hope happens with some of the lackluster reviews. I have had Wild Ginger multiple times but this past experience left me feeling quite disappointed. It never really wowed me but I never had issues until recently. I ordered through a delivery service and the driver was there for an extended amount of time. I called to see what was happening and they said their grill was down and offering only half the items. My bun chicken was substituted for lettuce cups which they completely omitted despite all the wait. They still charged me for it though. My husband's curry and spring rolls were all that showed up. The curry was inedible according to my husband who can eat just about anything. It was late after all that waiting so he resorted to eating a PB& J sandwich. I can tell the sauce looked off and had a bright yellow mustard color. Super bland and not the heat level (he likes it spicier) he requested. It was as if the sauce was just poured on top of the veggies and chicken versus being cooked in. They should have closed down the restaurant with the grill being down and not taken orders. read more

Great food last night! Better than the first visit which was marred by unhappy infants. Tom Yum soup is good, if a little too sweet for my taste, so went unfinished. However, the shrimp was fresh & cooked just right along with the floating mushrooms. Our bass dinner was done beautifully! Delicate battered & deep fried fish covered in lovely snow pea pods, carrots, onions, & capsicums in a spicy sauce served with brown rice. Drunken Noodles with Walleye was fantastic! Al dente wide rice noodles with beautifully done veggies, but surprisingly lacking in spice although the order was for a 6. The walleye was great--crisp since it is surprising deep fried like the Sea Bass. Used the sauce from the other dish since there was not enough with the noodles. Our server was noticeably absent to ask for hot sauce, or anything else we might need. However, we will return for the food and hope for better service. read more

Have ordered from here a few times now and every time I am reminded why I should stop ordering from here. Have had multiple iterations of the noodle dishes including pad Thai, drunken, and pad see ew -- all three disappointing every time. Sauce lacks flavor, veggies are never cooked all the way, and meat is always strange tasting. Chicken was extremely dry and my shrimp one time was mushy -- very off putting. One of my top favorite Asian restaurants I can't not ever get the Mango curry- it comes with rice and is delectable. The various vegetables paired with your preferred spice level and sweet mango finish is unique and I'm always glad I ordered it. This last time I tried the Wild Ginger roll and wow, what a surprise. I ordered the several sashimi order and shrimp Pad Tai. The pictures shows 5 pieces for yellow jalapeño but I only received 3 pieces. The shrimp for pad tai was cooked too much and it didn't even taste like shrimp. I called and the lady was nice and they were going to give me a store credit for the yellow jalapeño but I am an out of town guest and I just needed a nice dinner after long day work. The taste of yellow jalapeño were really good though. Other sashimi are good too but pad tai was really horrible. The noodle was cooked too much as well. For $17 pad tai, I expected better. How can I give this place a negative star? Ordered food via DoorDash this week. I ordered the udon and beef lemongrass salad just in case the udon was bad. Andrew Zimmerman said Midwest Chinese food tastes like crap and people protested while, as an Asian, I thought he was being transparent. I still agree with him. This restaurant is probably the worst restaurant I've eaten at. The udon has zero flavor. The broth tasted like one part water and 100 parts salt. You can't even eat that and still be alive later. Two bites and I was done. You could die if you had high blood pressure eating that crap. The spicy beef salad was ok because you can't screw up lettuce and cucumber if it just washing and chopping. The sushi was delicious but the service was more like you expect at Frisch's. "Hi, Do you know what you want?" As soon as we were greeted. The salad came right before the sushi but as I mentioned, the food was good. I have no idea what our servers name was because she never told us. I usually love coming here but I had a pretty annoying experience today. I ordered for takeout. First, I ordered a avocado peanut sushi roll and I get home and it's just a plain avocado roll. I also ordered the budda delight made vegan and I've gotten this before but it didn't taste good this time. It doesn't taste like the usual coconut milk was used so I'm kinda concerned on what they used (hoping it's not any fish product), and the spice is super underwhelming for a level 5 (which I ordered before and found it to be the right amount). On top of that, the person taking my order was giving me misguided info on what's vegan which is also unsettling when getting my food. They were also handing me my food with no rice. I came here with a friend for dinner on a Friday night and had a wonderful experience! The service was great, they had a nice selection of wine (I love a good sauv blanc from New Zealand and they delivered), and amazing food! We started with summer rolls. They were so good and fresh and the peanut sauce that they were served with had a great flavor (similar to peanut butter, and I am a peanut butter lover!). We then split the dragon sushi roll and it was also very good! Our last dish was the yellow curry with chicken and it was amazing! The chicken and veggies were cooked perfectly. All of the veggies were soft enough to break through with your fork but not too soft. The yellow curry sauce was incredible! The coconut milk flavor really came through and helped to enhance the other flavors. Seriously so good! I loved it so much that I ordered it for takeout the following weekend! I love Hibachi, so this was a great place to come to. Originally, it wasn't planned to sit at the Hibachi tables but it worked out. I came here with Tiff D. and our friend Jasmine. Tiff D. made reservations on Open Table. However, when we arrived we had no reservations. Good thing Tiff had the email confirmation. It's a cute small dining facility, but spacious enough for small groups. They only have two hibachi tables, so if you want to do hibachi, I would strongly suggest making reservations. The food and experience turned out good but I will say, they need to get and little more organized and in sync with Open Table if they are going to use it. For whatever reason our reservation didn't show on their end. Also, on Open Table you can't pick whether or not you want to do hibachi. We got blessed because 3 people cancelled, right as they seated us at the regular tables. I ordered the Chicken & Shrimp combo with extra rice. I always order the chicken and shrimp combo when I go to a hibachi. I don't know why but it's something about having both. I love watching the chef cook all the food in front of you. This hibachi is no different from any other hibachi in a since of what comes with the dishes. It consist of your hibachi choice, a side salad with ginger dressing, and miso soup. I normally do not like anybody's miso soup, but for whatever reason this soup was good and I ate most of it. I always enjoy the salads so of course that was good. Haha! The food was good and had a good flavor. Their ginger sauce they serve in the container was actually really good. Probably one of the better Ginger sauces I have had from a hibachi. Their yum yum sauce was a little different but I still ate it. My other complaint besides the Open Table issue was they charge everybody gratuity that sits at the hibachi grill. Yes, even if it's three people. Most places don't charge gratuity unless it's 6-8 or more. There are about 15-20 hibachi chairs at the grill. We took 3 seats and there was a party of 15-17 people for birthdays. Mind you we were not with the party. We told the waiter, Alix, this and we still got charged gratuity. Alix, also messed up our checks. However, I'll cut him some slack for this because he's human. Overall, Wild Ginger ended up being a good experience with friends. It started off a little oh the meh side but it worked out. Again, if you want to do the hibachi I would highly encourage calling and making reservations. Don't use Open Table for this. read more

I really love Asian food and am a pretty hard critic At times. But Wild Ginger never seems to disappoint me. Their ingredients are sooooo fresh! I've sat on both the hibachi side and regular seating side and enjoyed both options. On the regular seating side, I typically migrate toward a stir fry option. My go tos are the basil and the ginger with chicken. I love these because they are loaded with tons of veggies, which are cooked perfectly. The hibachi side is such a great experience. It's perfect for family, friends, dates, etc. they also allow you to bring desserts if you are celebrating something special. The food is of course cooked perfectly and on the spot. I actually find them better than the well known hibachi restaurants around town. Very good food and good vibes! Note- do not try to make a reservation online through open table. Came here for celebration dinner and got metered parking right out front! The vodka tonics were so good I had to order two and perfectly made! I ordered the spring rolls and they were just like most spring rolls but most importantly hot and delicious! We also ordered sweet potato sushi which has tempura on outside but it was wonderfully crunchy. My main dish was Pad See Eu and it was not bad. I would recommend getting higher than 5 if you want it spicy. The vegetables in the dish were perfectly cooked and so were the noodles. I would highly recommend the dish. I'd highly recommend this restaurant! Wild Ginger is right on a very busy intersection in a very attractive building. There is ample parking behind the restaurant, but street parking is also available. Service was efficient and friendly. The food was very unusual and extremely good. We started with the delicious egg rolls. I had the mango and shrimp stir fry and enjoyed my favorite plum wine! The only reason for now giving 5 stars is because the outside of the building advertised hibachi, but when we were seated we couldn't see the hibachi tables, nor were they offered. The Curry!!!! O.M.G. I'm salivating as I am write this review. So my lovely girlfriend said, hey. You got to try the RED Curry. I said okay. I got some scallops with it and it was ABSOLUTELY incredible. Every bite was filled with major flavor explosion. I came in with a group of 10 people. They sat us in the back with tons of space and what is awesome, you can actually have conversations across the table without hearing loud music, it is great for birthday dinners. The service is exceptionally well. I tried their Thai martini and I thought it was a bit too strong. I also say they have some Habachi where they cook right in front of you.
