I saw that they also make coffee so I got a cappuccino to go with my meal. The cappuccino was nice smooth and I appreciated the dairy alternative. The chicken is a lightly battered breast very tender and moist the waffles were light and fluffy. I've had many chicken and waffles in the past but I've never had it with gravy. Oof, a swing and a miss! Drove a bit out of the way to check out WFK and it wasn't very good. Ordered a Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich that was run-of-the mill (not overly flavorful), average sized with a side of limp french fries. The total bummer was the Wild Fig Salad for $10 that was TINY! It barely covered the bottom of a small bowl. I wondered if they threw a side salad in the bowl? Cashier was terrible. She was monkeying around with something - not sure what she was doing but I had to repeat my order like three times, "Hold on, okay - what do you want? Hold on...okay..." Disappointing. Heard about this place from a server at a Mexican restaurant in Oakhurst so we decided to try it on our way out of town. Very cute place. Order at the counter, server brings you the food. This review has nothing to do with how long it took to order, or how long it took to order another drink. The two servers were busting their tails. I had the fried chicken sandwich. My girlfriend had the French toast with fresh berries. The fried chicken sandwich was just okay. I was disappointed. One of the pieces of chicken was over-fried, almost to the point of being burnt. Still an okay sandwich. My girlfriend's French toast came with a thimble full of berries. Not great. And another little tiny cup of syrup. Here's what bugs me.......she went in to ask for more syrup (and trust me, she does NOT eat a lot of syrup, so what was served with the meal was not a lot), and they said it was $2.00 for more syrup. Dude the chicken sandwich is so freaking amazing. My wife, friends and I hit this place all the time when we are in town. My son gets the biscuits and gravy which he loves. My other son gets the burrito which he loves. My daughter gets the pancakes which she loves. My wife gets some Mexican breakfast dish which she loves. We had a great lunch experience at Wild Fig Kitchen. We were 5 adults (3 vegetarian) and two preschoolers and the menu had plenty of choices for all of us. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent - everyone was so genuinely warm, friendly, and helpful. The setting was perfect, sitting outside in the Spring sunshine. Don't drive through Coarsegold without stopping to eat here. There is nothing like it in Oakhurst (that I know of). It's open until 2:30pm and serves breakfast, brunch, & lunch. They have a variety of wide variety of drink options - Mariposa roasting coffee, espresso, mimosa, wine, beer, martineli's apple juice, orange juice, tea, and assorted soda. The photos do not even come close to being able to convey how fresh and REAL all the food tastes here. You can absolutely taste the quality ingredients used and careful consideration given to keeping it simple yet tasty. The whole experience from the moment you walk in until you exit is just... delightful. The vibe here is contemporary, hip, chic, smart, yet natural in a genuine way, not overly contrived. The front of the house staff knows their regulars. They also recognize new customers and know just how to introduce them to their place. This "kitchen" has a legit, dedicated chef with a clear vision and to me that is super cool. This is no chain restaurant with a trained crew from a corporate headquarters handbook to follow. Everything I've tried here so far I highly recommend. *Biscuits and chicken gravy - made with a creamy light chicken gravy, shredded chicken, leeks & peas. *so happy they have this option because I love biscuits but do not like the typical kind made with brown gravy. *French Toast - 2 thick slices of Max's Challa dusted with powdered sugar and served with fresh berries and pure maple syrup. *mine was made perfectly, a little crisp and toasty on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. *Orange Poppyseed Scones - best scone I've had in probably ever. *Apple Cake - GO GET ONE. My friend and I decided to take a drive out to Coarsegold for some lunch here. What a cute little place this was! We arrived around 1:30 and the place was packed. Upon arrival, it seemed very small, but there was plenty of seating available both inside and out. It was a beautiful, warm day so we chose to sit outdoors after ordering our food at the counter. Just a word of caution, the service was friendly but very slow here. I'm not sure if this is the norm as it was busy and during COVID times, there could have been a staff shortage. We stood in line about 15 minutes until we got to the front of the counter to order and then waited another 30 minutes for food. The wait for food was expected as the gal taking our order did advise us of that. We were OK with it because we weren't in a rush and just spent the wait time catching up. For our meal, we ordered the shortbread cookies (which we ate while waiting for our foods), the sweet potato hash, the wild fig salad with grilled chicken, and the fig burger with butternut squash soup. All of our foods were very tasty. The sweet potato hash was cooked perfectly crisp with brisket and I loved the runny poached eggs over them. The wild fig salad was also delicious with the kick of the goat cheese and sweetness of the dried figs. The addition of the chicken was OK. I ordered it more for a side salad and I don't think it necessarily needed it if you're not getting it as your main meal. My friend enjoyed her soup and burger. I didn't try it but she said it all tasted great. She especially loved the burger. All of the flavors in the fig burger really complimented each other. Sweet and savory. She suggested adding the bacon as well! It was a lovely meal on a beautiful day. I recommend sitting outdoors and soaking in the sun and gorgeous views if the weather permits. I said good morning and smiled and the lady at register stayed straight faced with no smile no good morning and no thank you when we left...she brought coffee over for the table sitting closest to the register and never offered a refill to us. I realized after overhearing her conversation with the couple at the table next to us about immigrants, she was unfriendly because of my skin color. The chicken and waffles were covered in powdered sugar to the point where that's all you could really taste. The gravy that came with it wasn't super flavorful either. The sweet potato was super soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The brisket was tender, not too fatty. It I had one critique, it'd be that the eggs were over cooked. The dish seemed a little bit dry because there wasn't that much yolk from the eggs! But my fatass took my colleagues gravy and drenched it on my dish! 10/10 recommend. We were staying in Oakhurst for the weekend to visit Yosemite and found this place on Yelp before we were about to head home. Let me tell you, this was a great find! This place has a great outdoor / indoor setup and the service was amazing. Quick, friendly and efficient! As we were reviewing the menu, at first I was a little disappointed that I didn't see too many omelette options but I hadn't said anything out loud. My husband ordered his omelette and the lady at the counter said that I can customize an omelette. This made my day! I had an omelette with chicken apple sausage, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, arugula, avocado and it came with potatoes. Soo tasty! We also had lemon lavender mimosas and these were extra refreshing. So much so that we needed another one each. This also required a couple of the freshly baked cookies to go.
