Had my first post-pandemic cut with Lynnie and I couldn't be happier!!! I've been cutting my own…read morehair for 14 mos, and while Lynnie was super kind and generous in telling me that I did a good job and that anyone would struggle to cut the back of their head where they can't see, I felt like my hair was a real mess. I mean, just chaos all over. So now that I'm vaxxed and about to take a trip back east to visit family I haven't seen in what feels like eons, I knew I needed professional help. And since I'm relatively new to Austin, I turned to Yelp for help in choosing that professional help :-) I absolutely love the cut and style Lynnie gave me, and, as I said, I felt like her task was extra challenging because of all the chaos I wreaked on my own quarantined head, ha. So I'm extra impressed with the end product! This cut is super cute and stylish and attractive and it feels very "me." I love it! Also, I love that Lynnie asked about how I style my hair at home, and maybe bc I'm lazy or maybe I'm impatient, I usually just let it air dry. So she gave me tips for styling it that way and then put me under the dome dryer to mimic the air dry so we could see how it looked after. I really appreciated that extra touch too-- it was so helpful to me since I feel like I learned some new tricks that I will actually carry out bc they're easy and don't require me to do anything time-consuming. Also, I felt very comfortable with Lynnie. In addition to clearly being so talented at her craft, she's a warm, friendly, all-around nice person who I enjoyed chatting with while she was making over my head :-). I was so looking forward to my first professional self-care experience post-vaccine (my husband is in a vulnerable group so I've been psychotically cautious for the last year so I wouldn't unknowingly give the virus to him). I was so looking forward to it that I could barley sleep last night! But at the same time I was nervous bc I am so easily embarrassed (I'm working on that), and I really was embarrassed about my hair. Lynnie put me at ease immediately, and her kindness and patience and warmth made the whole experience fabulous for me, so it was good for my outsides and my insides. I feel so good with this new haircut (I feel 10 years younger, maybe even 20!), and I feel so grateful for finding out about Lynnie. In case it's not already obvious, I will be returning again and again to be the lucky recipient of her talent, and in case it's not obvious, I highly recommend her as well... the highest recommendation I can give! Thank you so very much, Lynnie! You've made me day/week/month, and you have already made my upcoming trip more special :-D UPDATE 5/27/21: I took my trip back East and got sooooo many compliments on my hair! (Even a flight attendant complimented me, so it wasn't just people who know me, but a few strangers too.) Also, I had lots of pics taken of me (which I normally don't like bc I don't like pics of me), but these pics were sweet bc they were me with my first grandbaby! If Lynnie hadn't fixed all that I had done wrong to my head over the last year I am positive I would've hated those pics of me bc I would've been distracted by how bad my hair had looked instead of focusing on the baby. So thank you for that huge save, Lynnie! (If I weren't so shy I would post a pic of me. Alas, I am that shy.) Also, this cut is a dream to take care of: it really suits my wash-and-wear lifestyle, and looks so good to boot. And Lynnie showed me some cool tricks to accentuate the style when I air dry. And I forgot to mention that I have short hair-- I read somewhere that short haircuts are harder to do well than long ones (makes sense when I think about it). So that's another well-earned feather in Lynnie's amazing cap! :-D

Lynnie Jones! What can I say about my experience with her that ISNT spectacular!?…read moreShe's kind, thoughtful, & generous! This woman went out of her way to hand deliver (in beautiful packaging) the toner my hair needed during quarantine!!! She goes the extra mile and takes extra special care when transforming your hair to ensure it stays happy and healthy. She's an absolute magician with color & blondes and also an absolute angel to boot. I could go on, but just know I went to see another color specialist when Lynnie was out due to Covid and let me tell you... it was a one and done bc Lynnie is the only colorist/stylist who does it right.

However, my last visit with new stylist Belle left me with complete shock and disappointment. We clearly did not have same idea of color, but I also ended up with a refresh butterfly cut with terribly uneven layers all around my hair, and hair around my face chopped back to my ears because she wanted to remove weight. It was also extremely texturized leaving holes through out my hair. I for sure had damage but walked out with even more somehow, and didn't even realize how bad because she didn't do the included styling at the end (realized at home this cut was impossible to style!). They offered a corrective service which I appreciated after spending $400, and knowing it's a small business. Salon owner was nice but ultimately the color was still off (explicitly asked for a shadow root but just had lots of chaotic bleach), and cut hair was already cut and too far gone to blend apparently. Senior stylist who was correcting also continuously yanked my hair in the bowl, saying she had to in order to get the toner on everything. Super painful and I don't even have a sensitive head. Didn't realize how bad and uneven it still was all around until getting another corrective service at another salon recently. Such an uncomfortable experience overall and definitely not the salon for me. Hope others have a better experience or go to Wheelhouse ATX who has been nothing but kind, professional, and very skilled at handling a very messy correction

I've only left Apotheca for about two hours and I cannot get over how stellar my haircut came out!…read moreNot only is this salons truly spacious, clean, and well lit, but the entrance is a horticulture's paradise. They take pride in creating a community and you can see how embracing they are for everyone to come and get their hair done here. Not only is this a safe space and open to all for the queer community and beyond, but they offer hair, makeup, spa, and treatment services. I was able to make a same day appointment and was guided on how they have a few different tiers of stylists and after going over my needs, the receptionist guided me to book with Samaia. We all know how annoying parking can get, so I was stoked when they informed me about the complimentary parking within the same building for retail. It's the first three floors so make sure it's marked for retail (we hate getting towed in this house). As I walked in, I was promptly greeted and asked what I would like to drink. Now in all my years of getting my haircuts, I have never been offered SNACKS upon check-in. What a simple yet amazing way to elevate your salon. They had alcoholic and non-alcoholic options and you're encouraged to access the snacks and fridge if you desire something else. My barber/stylist Samaia met me in the lobby after I waited for a few minutes and ushered me into the back. Don't let your initial opinion fool you because there are like 10+ chairs and a dedicated hair washing room (with charging stations) there. I was informed my cut included a wash, style, and cleanup which was much appreciated. I showed her a few examples of hairstyles that stood out to me and she gaved me her open and honest expert opinion which was so nice. I loved she didn't just say yes we can do that and then hit my hair. We took a few minutes discussing options and we decided on a cut that would give me the effect I desired yet room for growth. Samaia's skillset transformed my hair and gave me the Cinderella effect of transforming me from a pumpkin to a beautiful glass carriage. She took her time and carefully used scissors and plenty of different tools for my hair. Many of which where the first I've seen even with my multiple visits to salons and barbershops in my lifetime. What stood out to me though was her approach to educate and demonstrate how to utilize tools when at home. It felt achievable and I even ended up purchasing a diffuser tool for my blowdryer. My hair feels and looks like a celebrity cut and I am so thankful that Samaia was able to give me the haircut I've been wanting to have for the longest time. I'll definitely be back!!

This is a solid place with friendly people and very talented stylists. The older building provides high ceilings and the white and mint paint job presents a cool and fresh space. It always feels open and airy, which is especially important during this pandemic. The Covid protocols here are outstanding: everyone is wearing masks, stations are spaced out (it seems that every other station is empty to ensure social distancing), and the place is spotless. The owner of the business, Melissa, is always so friendly and kind. She remembered me after I hadn't been there in several years. It really felt like going home to return back to this amazing place.
