=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE 4.5 stars: great food and good service…read morein a decent environment garners one of the top votes for Thai food when in the area! === 2. FOOD Chicken Satay ($16) 4 skewers at this price makes this dish a little speedy, but it's good: meaty pieces on skewers with authentic peanut sauce - yum! Pad Thai Prawn ($22) You get five jumbo shrimp on top of the pad Thai noodles. The flavour is a little different (and a touch more liquid-y?) than most other places - but it's tasty nonetheless! Curry Fried Rice ($21) Imagine a good-tasting fried rice with your choice of protein (we chose chicken) and curry powder to flavour: it's simple yet really tasty! Sweet Stickey Rice with Mango ($12) It's spendy for what you get - but it does included at least half a fresh-cut mango with sticky rice and coconut milk - an indulgent treat! === 3. SERVICE It was simple and good - nothing spectacular but also nothing to worry about either from the two ladies that served us throughout the meal. === 4. ENVIRONMENT The decor seems 10-15 years old but it's clean and bright enough - at least with daylight (it might be a little dim when dark out). A large TV on one wall shows a video of a Western traveller visiting Thailand to sample foods. There is a lunch buffet ($21 for adults or $14 for kids) - offering 8-10 dishes in the centre of the restaurant. Groups large and small would fit easily, as would wheelchairs and baby strollers. Parking is reasonably plentiful on the street out front.

Nice Thai food at good prices. Excellent lunch buffet. All dishes seem slightly sweet.read more

A Thai restaurant in Tsawwassen. How legit could it be? I decided to give it a try as I just wanted…read moreAsian spicy food, and I did not want to drive all the way to Vancouver for it as I was already in this area. I got there and it was fairly quiet with just two tables occupied. I was taken aback by the staff though. They were not Asian or Thai. I started to wonder if this was a watered-down version of Thai food to suit the local non-spicy palate? The staff was speaking French to a table of customers. Uh-oh. It took a long while before anyone (there were 2 of them front of house) came over to me. During that time, I was contemplating if I should just walk out. So service was indeed spotty. One staff was more helpful than the other. I wanted the pad krapow gai (basil minced chicken), unfortunately they did not have that. So I had the basil chicken which was in slices instead of minced. There is a difference in the dish even though both are basil chicken. I requested for the spice level to be like in Thailand (hot). The food arrived and it was spicy, but not overly spicy like in Thailand. It was ok. You had to order the rice separately and at $2.75 a bowl, it was quite expensive. It was just rice! Even though the restaurant did not have many dine in customers, there were plenty of people calling in to place orders for take out. So I guessed maybe this was the only decent Thai place for the people living in this area? The food was not bad, but it is just not the best Thai food around.

I love supporting local family restaurants, but I can't get behind somewhere that has no time…read moremanagement whatsoever. We ordered at 7:05 on the road and told our food would be ready for 8 (which is nearly an hour!). We only ordered 3 entrees and 1 order of spring rolls. We got there at 7:55, waited a few minutes, and went in only to be told it would be another few minutes. No worries! Only when we went back in 10 minutes later, our order still wasn't ready. We ended up leaving the restaurant with our food at 8:35, a full hour and a half after we placed our order! The friends I was with loved their food, but I personally didn't find it worth the wait. I'd much rather go to Thai basil and get my food in 10 minutes, especially since I know the food is ALWAYS bomb there. I also think the prices are pretty steep for entrées that don't even come with a base. My and my friend each had to order a side of rice, and there's no combo pricing. Overall, a tsawwassen staple that just doesn't do it for me.
