This is a wonderful bakery and Nadine is so talented! We did our wedding cake here and Nadine was so helpful in coming up with a cake design and sampling various flavors to pick our favorite. We ended up liking the flavor of one cake with the icing of another cake and she was happy to work with us to make that happen. The cake turned out beautifully and we had so many compliments from our guests. The storefront is on the smaller end and has a display of some of the wedding cake options. It can get a little cramped inside if there are multiple groups visiting. She also has a travel business with various brochures laid out. She was able to accommodate four of us for the wedding cake tasting in her office. This month, we decided to try out the same flavor again for a family celebration. We were easily able to place the order for an Everyday cake by the online system. While the cake was definitely on the more expensive end compared to other Houston bakeries, the presentation and delicious flavor are so worth it. We opted for the butter cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing. We picked up on a Saturday for a Sunday event and it stored well in our refrigerator till the day of. We excitedly dug in and the cake was to die for - the whole family thoroughly enjoyed it. We opted for an 8 inch cake which was more than enough for 10 of us and could probably serve around 20 people. We went in today for our wedding cake tasting and were served three individual platters with eight different cake flavors. Nadine walked us through their album and helped us choose a design that fit our vision. Every cake we tried was amazing! We ended up choosing a three-tier cake with cinnamon and strawberry flavors, plus a groom's cake. The service was excellent, and the pricing was very reasonable. We paid over 600$ for our red velvet wedding cake. I emailed who made the cake a month prior to let them know that our pick up person would be there at 10:30am the day of. They replied to my email and confirmed it would be ready. My pick up person showed up at 10:30am and we're told that it would not be ready till 12pm. So, they had to wait over an hour at the shop. Another woman was there (to pick up her order) and two of the cakes she had purchased hadn't even been made. I had wanted a cake from here since I had the most amazing one over 12 years ago at a friend's wedding from this business). Unfortunately, our cake was dry. It wasn't good. We were disappointed. One of our wedding guests actually asked why we even bought that cake and told us she could have baked us a better one for free. A few of my other "foodie" guests had the same comments later when I asked for their honest opinion on the cake. One even told me HEB grocery store would have baked a better, less dry cake. Went back for seconds...not just a second piece but a second cake! Delicious and good value in central Houston for a detailed, custom wedding cake. Needed to find a new cake vendor for our fall 2021 wedding after we were originally scheduled to get married in fall 2020. Our previous cake vendor said they no longer do wedding cakes except "very, very simple ones" and would not even schedule cake tastings anymore. Was worried Who Made the Cake would be overpriced due to its location, but we were so pleased with the results and taste (old fashioned vanilla buttercream icing with butter cake flavor) of the wedding cake- it was a great value to us (3-tiered wedding cake with peony sugar flower cake topper). We had a 100 person wedding and did not want to spend $600+ on a traditional tiered wedding cake- Nadine worked with us to keep our cake in our budget. They said that the deadline was Friday. However, I personally gave them the deadline of Friday. In the past, when I've seen a super fancy highly sculpted cake, I've often found them to be dry and not flavorful. I was incredibly surprised to find delicious cake under all the elaborate frosting. The car cake was strawberry and the frosting (below the fancy fondant) was really really good! The golf cake was Italian cream and it was delicious! We easily had enough cake to feed 200 people! Nadine was very friendly and professional. Everything went smoothly the day of the wedding. I'm giving 4 stars because we chose two flavors - Red Velvet and Italian Cream. Red Velvet is me and my partner's favorite flavor and we were a bit disappointed the day of the wedding when we bit into the red velvet and it was dry. Even some of our wedding guests commented on the dryness of the red velvet (which was the majority of our cake). We all loved the Italian Cream - it was flavorful and moist. Tasty cakes, bad customer service We did a cake tasting for our wedding cake. The process of setting up a cake tasting was super easy, and Raven was so good about answering emails and questions. We understood things were different as they were in the middle of the pandemic. We set up a virtual appointment with Nadine and we picked up the cake samples. Nadine heard what we had to say and what we wanted. She was really nice and the cakes were really good. After the meeting she sent us a cute e-card saying it was nice meeting us, and that she would send us the quote by the end of the next business day. Two days passed and we got no response from them. We emailed and called for a week. They literally ghosted us. If for some reason they didn't want to work with us, a simple "we're already booked" or "your cake is too small, we're not interested" would have been enough. Instead we got nothing. After the week, we gave up. We don't want to work with someone so unprofessional. If only she had spent that money on fixing the mistakes she made and accommodating our requests for my wedding, this place would have had a 5 star review, a repeat customer, and glowing referrals to the 15-20 brides/year we know getting married in Houston every year. Overall, these people don't give a DAMN about you, your wedding, or what you want. They pride themselves on making cakes for celebrity weddings who don't have to deal with the horrible customer service that is Nadine and her staff. So, if you're not a multimillionaire celebrity, don't come here. Cake: Let me start off with a positive. The taste of their cakes are the highest quality and extremely flavorful. Of the five tastings we did in Houston for our wedding, Who Made the Cake had the best tasting cake. Even at our wedding, we had plenty of compliments on the cake! Presentation: We had a special request for the design of our cake for our music themed wedding. We got a 3-tier cake with a printed edible sheet music draped over the tiers of cake with hand made sugar roses on the second tier. We also asked for an edible ribbon to go along the three tiers. This turned into a big ask and because I changed the color theme 1 MONTH before, she said she would not be able to change the color from red to magenta. I'm sorry, are you making my cake 30 days before the wedding? The bride-to-be was is tears, and the bridesmaids are furious. The bride, my baby sister, was so excited for her tasting and, having recently tried the cake at a bridal show, was already determined to order her cake today. Too bad they lost her appointment and refused to take responsibility for the error and accommodate her anyways. They had the nerve to tell her there was "another appointment already scheduled"! Because two people cannot be tasting at the same time? Never mind the fact that she and her bridesmaids took time off from work and dress be 30-45 minutes to get there. If a business can't even keep a simple appointment and has such poor customer service to not try to make things right, how can anyone trust them to show up at the wedding months from now?? ***Just an update: Very surprised that the bakery's response was to blame the bride to be. It's unfortunate that instead of working to earn back her business and that of friends and family, they would choose to place blame. Further, the bride is a meticulous planner that lives by her calendar. It would be extremely unlikely that she would schedule a cake tasting on a day when she had so many other things scheduled already. Finally, if a client were to miss an appointment, per bakery's response, why was no phone call made to to reschedule or follow up? We ordered our wedding cake from Who Made the Cake. It was an all around good experience. I wasn't a Bridezilla though, so my order was really simple. It was also convenient that our apartment was so close to her shop. We just needed a cake big enough for about 100 people. And I wanted it to be blue. What color, Nadine asked, do you have a swatch? I actually laughed when she asked me this. She laughed with me, and said that most brides have a swatch and requires her to mix the color for the frosting exactly. I told her, just blue...whatever you think looks best with chocolate fondant accents. My one picky request was that I didn't want any fondant on my cake, just buttercream or chocolate. Regular fondant is gross, in my opinion. But this was no problem, and I picked out a design that could be replicated without fondant. I only had a 2 month engagement, and so I ordered my cake about 45 days in advance. We had our cake tasting in the morning, and we didn't feel rushed at all as we looked through the books and tried the cakes. We settled on one layer of regular white cake, fudge frosting, then a layer of chocolate cake for each tier, then the whole cake covered in amaretto buttercream with chocolate accents. The design we chose was simple and elegant. Nothing too gaudy or extravagant for me. The cake was about $350 (delivery included) in 2009 when we ordered it. Reasonably priced, I thought. As for the toppers, when we went to our consultation, I hadn't figured out what I wanted to use yet, and so she told me when I had the toppers to just come drop it off. Sure enough, once I get my little rubber duckies painted and ready for the cake, I return and they get placed on our cake without a problem or confusion. The cake was delivered on time and without issue. Everyone commented on how delicious it was and such a nice departure from the typical white on white wedding cake. I gotta say the amaretto buttercream was amazing. It was my husband's choice, and I'm glad I went with it. I was completely satisfied with this experience, and if I ever need a really big cake again, will definitely return. read more

But the actual wedding cake was just subpar. The flowers were a horrible blood color. On the order the colors specified were magenta, peach and a touch of purple. During our consultation we stressed colorful wedding. In the photos I had sent there was orange, magenta, pink, ecru, and peach. She had so many choices for colors and textures. MY MIND IS BLOWN. It's unprofessional to bail on an order, but to show up with NO CAKE or EVEN a phone call to ANNOUNCE the missing $600 wedding cake order IS UNHEARD OF. But alas, it happened. I attended the Manalo's wedding last night and THERE WAS NO WEDDING CAKE. A really kind relative picked up two birthday cakes last minute from a Kroger in the area. It was TERRIBLY unfortunate. Also, to my knowledge NO EMAIL or RETURN PHONE CALL or ANY attempt on Who Made The Cake's part has been made as of yet to correct or even excuse the situation. I really hope they get their money back and a huge appology. I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but It might be best to avoid this business.
