Had I known about Susie's cakes, I would have totally booked her for my wedding back in September 2018. I recently came here for a wedding cake consultation with my best friend. I thought the way Susie organized and help her clients choose their cake is such a unique, and efficient way to narrow choices down to the very one. She was very thorough and pleasant to work with, and gave her best suggestions from past experiences. She had presented us with six evenly cut pieces of cakes each to try, and we both loved every single one. Susie's cakes were super moist and light, and the taste to each of them are not too sweet, but just right in flavor. My favorites were the white almond and dark chocolate, though, honestly all of them were delicious. I really cannot wait for my best friend's wedding to be able to eat Susie's cake again! If I ever need a cake, I know where to go and who to contact! My only small complaint was the excessive perfume she wore during the consultation. I definitely have a sensitive nose when it comes to air fresheners, perfumes, and sprays, and that slightly made me feel uncomfortable at the beginning of the consultation. However, I think having cake, I was happy enough to forget it, lol. read more

This review is obviously made up because I can attest to the fact that Susie is the most professional and pleasant cake person in Houston. The review that Susie smells like cigarettes is laughable. Susie does not smoke. I am aware that sometimes other bakeries that are jealous will put fake reviews up online. I have complained to Yelp and ask that these fake reviews be deleted. Yelp researched the reviews, found that the people did not exist and said they would take down the reviews. Yelp has failed to follow up and delete the fake reviews. read more

I saw a terrible review about some terrible cake they got after running in to get a couple of slices of cake. Susie's does not sell cakes by the slice! I think they may be referring to a business with an extremely similar name. Anyway, Susie did my wedding cake 9 years ago and My family has never used another bakery since! Susie made our wedding and groom's cake. We had the almond cream for the wedding cake and red velvet for the groom's cake. It tasted great. The cakes were prefect and exactly what we wanted. She went all out for groom's cake, it was a big hit. My husband loves his car and we had a replica made it had headlights and everything detailed. Delivered on time no issues. I had my wedding reception at the Houstonian, and our wedding cake from Susie's Cakes was included in the package. After the cake tasting, we ended up purchasing a grooms cake as well since all of the flavors were so yummy. The wedding cake was the traditional white almond cake with buttercream, and it was seriously amazing. All of our guests were raving about how good the cake was, and I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that my husband and I ate the top tier of our cake within a week (couldn't resist!). Our grooms cake was chocolate ganache with our collegiate logo, and it turned out very nicely. I would recommend Susie's Cakes to any Houston bride! read more

Susie did an amazing job on our wedding cake on 10/24/15! She made the most delicious Almond cake with dulce de leche filling that all our guests raved about! The best part is how flexible Susie was with delivering our cake to a new venue, the St. Regis Houston, after Allison Smith at Brenner's on the Bayou canceled the reception at the restaurant. I have no idea who wrote that previous review, but they obviously had NO IDEA what an amazing cake Suzie makes. I looked all over Houston for my Wedding Cake, because I was looking for a beautiful cake, that actually tasted good! I went ot 7 different places including: Who Made the Cake, Three Brothers, DeFalcos, Rustica Bakery, Cakes By Gina, Sweet Delights, and Bobbies Cake Creations. I was so incredibly disapointed in ALL OF THOSE places because their cakes tasted bad. They looked nice, but tasted bad, and didnt have REAL buttercream icing on any of the cakes! Then, I had a friend mention Suzies Cakes. I was hesitant because everywhere else tasted horrible, but I went. I was BLOWN AWAY! She uses REAL Butter Cream, Real Fruit ingredients, and she can do almost any design you want in buttercream, which is something NONE of the other places could do. They could only do intricate desings on fondant. My wedding cake was the hit of my wedding. Everyone kept asking me where I got the cake, and that it was the best cake they have ever tasted. I recommed Suzies Cakes to ANYONE. No wonder she is contracted to do all Houstonian Weddings! She is above and beyond any chef I have ever encountered here!! Wedding cake - my FAVORITE dessert in the galaxy!!!! And I have ordered three or four in the last few years from Susie's Cakes. I even had a small white layer cake made and hand-carried to my daughter who was studying abroad in Germany (she feels about cake like I do). I gave one of my best friends, who was getting remarried, the wedding cake for her reception as my gift to the couple, and their guests made complete PIGS of themselves over that cake (I cannot blame them). Some guests had two and three pieces and were asking to please have a piece to take home w/them (I am not exaggerating; they really did), and finally I had to put my foot down, because I was afraid there would be no cake left for the bride and groom when they got back from their honeymoon. You absolutely DO need to get your order in way in advance, but, if you're able to do that, you will be so pleased w/any cake you get from Susie's. I like plain white on white, but I've tasted all the samples several times and they're all phenomenal. read more

I agree that the first post does not represent Susie's cakes. I wish I could flag it for lying! She makes the most AMAZING and DELICIOUS cakes in Houston! She made our cake for our wedding and we couldn't have been happier. We chose her because she was always featured in Weddings in Houston magazine and when we tried one of her cakes at a bridal show we were sold. After visiting five highly rated cake shops, I knew we had to go with Susie's! She had me at almond cake! We went with almond buttercream and raspberry filling. Like other reviewers have said, her cakes are as delicious as they are beautiful! Everyone, even my mother-in-law who usually only likes chocolate cake, raved about how moist and delicious our cake was. I brought Susie a photo of the cake I wanted and she completely executed it! I didn't want fondant, but we needed it to make the cake work, so she was able to create fake layers and keep the buttercream layers matching perfectly. Although it was pricey, it was completely worth it! Our only issue was that in our consult meeting, I mentioned that we were a Two Be Wed client, and she said that we would not need to put a deposit on the cake stand. It didn't occur to me to put it on our order and I really wish she would have asked or confirmed this with me before delivering the cake. The cake looked beautiful, but I really wish we had a stand with it. read more

I needed a cake for an office baby shower. I was having a problem finding a place that was open on Sunday so I could pick up the cake Monday morning (I did not want a cake that made two or three days before the event). I found this company on Yelp and it said that it was open on Sundays, but after visiting their website (the website on yelp is wrong) I found out that they do cakes by appointment only. So I contacted this company via the contact us page on their website and asked about ordering a cake and picking it up five days later. I thought this should be doable since it only needed to feed 10 people and we did not need anything elaborate or fancy. After waiting a couple of hours, I called to see if they had received my email. I was informed that they only take orders placed three weeks in advance. They need to put this on their website or be more prompt in returning emails! I hate that they made me waste half the day waiting for them to respond and I will not use them in the future - even if I am placing an order three weeks in advance. read more
