Completely unacceptable treatment of animals. I witnessed a dog in this facility's care left outside in extreme NYC heat for over 40 minutes -- with no shade, no water, and on scorching pavement. The dog was panting heavily, visibly distressed, and trying to avoid burning its paws. I timed it myself. This isn't just poor care -- it's animal cruelty, and it's illegal under New York Agriculture & Markets Law § 353. I reported the incident to the police and am now filing official complaints with the ASPCA, Animal Care Centers of NYC, and, if necessary, the District Attorney's Office. If this is how animals are treated when people are watching, I can't imagine what happens when no one is looking. This business should not be allowed to work with animals until they are held accountable. Do better. read more

I have been meaning to write this for a while now. I have been coming here for dog training, grooming and daycare since late November 2020 and I have always been extremely happy. The owners, Mike and Chris and their staff are wonderful. As a new dog owner, I've had so many questions and they are always willing to answer and offer suggestions and advice. My puppy has been groomed by them and she always comes back looking and smelling great. I've signed up for training classes, but we haven't been successful since my puppy has high anxiety and is too excited to focus on the training. We will figure it out. First time and last time I will be using this boarding facility! I left my four year old French Bulldog with them for nine days and came to pick him up today. Before leaving the facility, I noticed his rear end and scrotum were swollen red and raw (pics below). I told them we did not leave him in this condition and when we called them with in the week, up until yesterday before picking him up they did not mention anything about this issue!! The caretaker had a dumb look on his face and said he probably laid in his urine and was probably licking himself. I couldn't believe my ears that the caretaker was confessing that they were neglecting my dog, even though they supposedly claimed that they clean the cages 2-3 times a day. I refrained from going back and forth with the caretaker, and immediately took my dog to the veterinarian since he was in pain. When the veterinarian examined my dog, the first question he asked was how sanitized is the boarding facility?? He concluded that my dog has an infection due to him sitting in his own urine/feces or laying in a cage that has not been properly cleaned. Never thought a place such as this would neglect a small dog that's been there for the first time. If you are a person who seriously loves their dog be cautious about this place!! read more

I made an appointment for Shadow, my 11 week old Shiba to be groomed. They did a very good job! He was clean and fluffy when I picked him up. Mike was also very funny! When I called him for an update he told me that Shadow did NOT like the blow dryer so they put him under the fan and he also did NOT like his nails trimmed. This made me laugh because I know Shadow can be such a handful. Haha. I appreciated the care they gave him. I've also spoken to Mike about doggy daycare and their rates seem fair, and this establishment seems to place my dogs well being before mine which I appreciate. Can't wait for Shadow to be old enough and neutered so he can attend daycare here! read more

DISAPPOINTED!!!!! I dropped off my Morkie Gucci for boarding and grooming. First off I wasn't warned I would pay more if I picked up dog after 11am. I would've arrived earlier from my trip to AC but had to pay the extra fee. I requested a Bear Face cut and I knew he was matted so I wanted his entire body but not his face. He looked like a chihuahua I did not recognize him. He has a poop stain on his face and his eye ducts were still crusty and dirty. I paid for a grooming however he needed a bath when we took him home. Bad experience! I'll never use them again but hope this helps anyone looking to use them. read more

I Miss "Whitestone board and groom so much!". The previous owner and his daughter were highly talented at what they do. My dog(s) loved them. New owners try to find great artist but unfortunately, I've tried 3 different groomers and all result in the same results. NOT a smooth cut, nails were supposed to be trimmed and they weren't. Also, my dog was given to me damp? Her response when i asked was that my dog "didn't like the sound of the dryer". Are you kidding me? My dog is 14 years old and he's been groomed since birth! He is used to the sound and REGARDLESS, you do not send a dog home that's still wet ! pure laziness ! The place fell off completely. They are nice and made an effort to fix the cuts but honestly the only one who cuts decent is the owner and if he is not around you are screwed. Better off buying your own grooming tools and doing a better job yourself. read more

We have been going here for as long as we have had dogs (since 2017). Under new ownership since my last review, we have found the grooming consistent and like the look of our pups (and smell) after each service. My Pomeranian puppy was definitely overdue for a haircut! The staff at Whitestone Doghouse was super accommodating and squeezed me in to their schedule last minute, which I really appreciated. It took longer than expected but that's because of the squeezing in, and because my Layla after getting bathed pooped everywhere so she had to be lightly rewashed (sorry again guys lol). The groomer herself came to update me with how much longer it would take and touched base with the type of cut I'd like -- I couldn't articulate what I wanted but I showed her a picture and she NAILED IT. And I'm happy the tail was kept super fluffy, it's my favorite. Even her underbelly where her lady parts are are super clean cut -- very impressive actually. I've gotten Layla cut by 3 other people and this is my favorite place thus far. She also managed to get a bow on her and it lasted longer than I've ever been able to keep a bow on her lol! They also sent me home with some dog food samples after I asked for some guidance on dog food and really appreciated that too. All in all, I believe me and Layla will be coming back for our next fur cut! I ultimately decided not to go with private training at the time since I wanted to give it another go on my own but if I had not made that decision, I would have called to sign up for classes because I appreciated Mike's forthright personality. They are nothing short of amazing to be honest, they have been grooming my puppy since we first got him in may 2021, they truly take their time and pay attention to detail when it comes to grooming and if you ever want anything specific they usually are able to do it, the teeth cleaning and nail trimming are up to par as well. So I did love this grooming place, and they always did a great job. I just went recently, and you can tell the groom is adorable by the picture. But I had an issue with them doing something to my dogs eyes. As you can see from the photo he is squinting his eyes. He was like this for 2+ days after his groom. Something got into his eyes or something while he was there. And I talked to the grooming place, and they just wouldn't tell me what happened or accept blame. And kept telling me he came in like this, and has an eye infection. He came in perfectly fine..... I was very nice to them and never yelled or anything. As I never had issues with them before, I was just trying to figure out what happened to him. And I just couldn't get an answer from them. They did offer for me to bring him in and they will eye wash him which I appreciate. But I was already constantly eye washing him at home every hour so I didn't take them up and on it. Especially since I didn't really trust them w my dog anymore. And now I'm on a waiting list to get him seen by a vet. also. The man that accepted my dogs from me wasnt looking behind him and was dragging my dog and hit his head on the counter. And I had to tell him to please stop. Which was a very unsettling way to leave your dog there. Again I never had issues before and this was my go to. I think just whoever was on staff that night wasn't the same people or something. But because of my bad experience I can't really trust them anymore w my baby. read more

EMERGENCY SITUATION I have been taking my two Shih tzu dogs to the "Doghouse" for five years. Mike the new owner set up the front of the store so nice. But did you see the back grooming area??? They always considered me a great customer since I have my two dogs groomed monthly. Mike gives me an appointment as needed. Since the pandemic the grooming has taken a turn for the worse. Bianca told me the boys are booking too many dogs and she can not give the the proper attention as always. So many dogs barking creating a bad energy. In my opinion, I feel they are double booking to make up for lost income. Lately every other grooming here has been small issues. Ear infections after every grooming. The ears are clean when they go in but 2 days later when the come out another ear infection. Bianca is my groomer. She is lovely and caring and worked here prior to the new owners. Bianca was not able to groom my female dog's head and didn't cut her nails one day. The male dog got shaved too close to his eye near the nose. Bianca was very receptive to my concerns. She took me in the back grooming area to fix the groom. That is when for the first time I saw what a mess! The bathing sink, table was water logged (mildew) and breaking apart. Dog hair everywhere. No one vacuums or sweeps up after every groom. Dogs in cages and walking around barking. Definitely not a calm environment. The shavers are not sterilized after each groom. So, if a dog has a skin infection/ yeast it is passed on to the next dog. That is what happened to my dogs. Next grooming I purchase medicated shampoo for both my dogs. I informed Mike and Bianca prior to the grooming to only use this shampoo for their backs and legs. Do not use on the head. Neither one of them did the bathing as I thought. A young boy did the bathing and got the medicated shampoo in my dogs eyes!!!!!! He did not alert anyone in the store for assistance. I get a phone call from Mike telling me my dogs eye is extremely red. He had no clue which one of my dogs he was talking about. In the meantime, my dogs eye was not flushed with water. See the attached picture. This was an emergency situation and was not handled correctly. That's why you need a groomers license in NYS. I took my dog to the Emergency Room at Animal Medical Center in the city. They tested the eye pressure which was fine, stain his eye for scratches- nothing and flushed it to clean and bubbles where forming. They asked if I just groomed the dog and I said yes. The doctor said the shampoo went in the eye causing severe irritation and swelling. The bill was $450 for that visit. Add on the bills for ear infections and medicine$$$$$ it has been 3 weeks now, not one phone call from this store to see how my dog's eye was doing. Obviously I will not go back. Eddy and Rachel have performed wonders on our pooch. The dog is a shaggy mixed breed and does not like having a bath and a hair cut. Previous groomers were not to receptive to a second visit. His dismay is not an issue with Eddy or Rachel. At Whitestone Grooming they have made Ziggy look and smell wonderful! He goes in looking like a dust mop then comes out impeccably groomed and looks ready for the Westminster Dog Show (too bad he is a mixed breed). It's always a pleasure seeing Eddy and Rachel.
