Woke up this morning my dog was not feeling well I called premier vet in Rockville Centre they had no availability for today they told me tomorrow. I asked if they had another location, which they do in Bayside on Bell Boulevard. I scheduled a same day appointment, good thing they will have access to my dogs medical records. I arrived to the office early the secretaries was very friendly it wasn't a long wait. EXCELLENT CARE!!!, Very detailed had lab work drawn waited for the results went over everything with me and even gave me a copy. I am glad I came to this location. read more

We have used them and their previous incarnation Bayside Vet for 30 years. We have always found them compassionate and knowledgeable. We just had surgery done by Dr. Defeis who has been a blessing for many of our pets including treating our frenchie who had a serious seizure disorder. Unreasonable charge.My cat started vomiting constantly on Oct 13th's afternoon. So I called this clinic, they said they couldn't take it because there's no available appointment slot but after I told them it's kinda emergency( it's my first time having a pet so I consider it's a dire situation) Then they said they will take my cat but it would charge me 205 $ fee for emergency. I love my cat so money is not a problem at the moment. So I took my cat right away to this clinic and after 15 minutes!! I received phone call from doctor. The doctor asked some questions(very short) and said will give my cat a anti vomiting shot and some probiotic and oral suspension. Also he did blood test. But he didn have me a clear answer what and why cause she vomited. And told me if she still vomits tonight or next morning, take her back for X-ray( $560) After 30 mins !!! i got my kitten back. Total: $623. 30 mins for $623. What a easy money!!! After I got home, she didn't eating anything until midnight. Then she vomited every one hour until next morning. Okay despite of unreasonable charging, they also give unprofessional advice. The first time I brought my cat to this clinic was Oct 4th for regular check up bc I just adopted my kitten. They did the fecal test and said they saw bugs(coccidia) but they didn't give any medicine only said clean her litter box more often( I replace new litter every four days- I got this non clumping litter) We don't know what triggered her vomited but if doctor could have given medication in first time when they found the coccidia instead of ignoring this issue, and then gave this coccidia medication when my second visit. Today, it's the fourth day since she started vomiting. I am glad that I made a wise decision to stop going to Bayside Animal Clinic! And I am happy that finally I find a new good place to take my cat for the future. And also a good vet who can actually give me an answer about her vomiting. read more

Overall, a great veterinary clinic that I would recommend for you pets! We have been coming to this vet clinic since we first got our dog. They gave us all of her vaccinations. They also took care of her when she had kennel cough as a puppy when we first got her. The price for the visit and vaccinations is very reasonable. They also do spay/neuter procedures here, but the price for this is higher than other local offices, so we didn't spay at this office. Very friendly front staff and vet staff. We have seen 3 different veterinarians on different occasions, but they have all been very very nice and knowledgeable. I trust them with our dog. read more

I posted previously about my beloved cat's Euthanasia and found myself in the same situation with my 16 year old beloved male Siberian Forest Cat Apollo. I previously Euthanized my 18 year old Siberian Forest Cat Nala at the Bayside Animal Clinic, showing up one morning without an appointment and a dying cat. I was accommodate and treated wonderfully by this practice. This time around, Apollo started fading in Sept., 2020 and Dr. Ottenbreit was instrumental in treating him and recommending medicines and special food I considered Euthanasia then but he responded well and bounced back a bit. I enjoyed him for another precious 6 months. Today, it was time though. Once again, I made the appointment and despite the usual COVID19 no-contact protocols, was allowed to be in the room (with a mask of course) for the Euthanasia. Dr. Ottenbreit once again soothed me and recognized how hard I fought to give my boy the best final months I could. Once again, she thoughtfully draped a soft towel on the exam table and this time, also covered Apollo with another towel to help with the February chill. She administered a sedative and gave me 10 minutes alone with him so I could kiss him and stroke him and thank him for being such an amazing loving cat. Then, she re-entered and administered the final shot to stop his heart. She listened for a heartbeat with a stethoscope and told me gently that he was gone. I appreciate her compassion and her lovely staff as well. The Euthanasia cost me the same as it did years ago, $275 (not including cremation) which I believe is fair. I have one Siberian Forest cat left, and he is 16. I will not hesitate to return to the Bayside Animal Clinic with him when that time comes. Dr. Ottenbreit makes a difficult situation actually very healing and positive. I appreciate her professionalism and compassion and I hope anyone reading this review and deciding on a Veterinarian chooses her clinic. I am glad I did. ----- read more

I have had animals all my life and have spent many a day at "The Vet's". At one point - oh say around 1994 - we found a stray (my baby beagle) we named Pookie. This was my first visit to Bayside Animal Clinic and we haven't been anywhere else since!!! We started out by seeing Dr. DeFeis. This man is fantastic!! He's an excellent vet and he was the only doc we would see (there are quite a few). Pookie needed medical attention every few months, and Dr. DeFeis took EXCELLENT care of us (they ultimately saved my Pookie's life). The front office staff/vet assistants also take excellent care of the "patients and their family"!!!! So the years go on, and Pookie gets a sister around 2001. A big, beautiful, sweet, mushy, loving, loyal Rottie named Onyx. (I kept Onyx after a break-up w/ex-fiance - her and the car were the only two good things out of that relationship anyway) - Onyx and Pookie became fast friends. On tiny little 30 pound beagle and one huge 145 pound Rottie!!! Onyx got very sick towards the end, having developed cancer. Dr. DeFeis had to perform surgery on her and he again saved one of my fur baby's life. But I digress.....sorry. Dr. DeFeis took care of both of my sweet babies for a really, really long time!!! As the years continue to pass, sadly we lost both Onyx and Pookie. About five years ago, we adopted Charlie from NSAL and again immediately took my then 5 month old baby to Bayside Animal Clinic. I don't remember the reasoning - think because of scheduling and hours Dr. DeFeis worked, but we ended up with Dr. Leah Ottenbreight. She is the sweetest, nicest, gentlest person I've met!!! She is just so nice and she is awesome with the animals! Some of the office staff/assistants have been there since we've first started and that's nice to see - it's nice when they know your name and your pets name and all that. Makes you feel comfortable! In the 18 years I've been going to them, I've seen them care for dogs/puppies, cats/kittens, birds (I even found a hurt bird on the sidewalk, and brought it to them and they took it), reptiles, guinea pigs, hamsters, you name it, it's been there!!! They may be a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for and if you want good, quality help that is available 24/7, with friendly people taking care of you and your fur babies, then you don't mind.... know what I mean?!?! And having pet insurance helps, too!!! Dr. Ottenbreight and Dr. DeFeis are our absolute favorites!!! Anyway, this is probably my longest Yelp review to date!!!! Sorry, but I love this place and these doctors (one of the doc's - Dr. Charos - is also an environmentalist, and is on the Board of Directors at Alley Pond Environmental Center) - which is a HUGE plus for me. The entire staff is wonderful. All of the doctors are very knowledgeable and very caring. Everyone treats Louie with love and affection and care for him as if he was there own. It was Louie's last day with the sitter and who knows, he may have been partying with his friends. Not sure what he ate or drank but he did get very sick. CVA in Bayside has taken care of Louie since he was 4 months old. I quickly called them, explained Louie's condition and the staff took care of Louie and brought him back to 100% good health. Louie and I are so grateful, he is back to normal, running and jumping and jumping and jumping, oh yeah, did I mention Louie jumps. Looking for a great vet, this is the placce to go!!!!! STAY AWAY!! The following is a copy of the letter that I emailed to Central Veterinary Associates, after a nightmarish visit to the Bayside Animal Clinic, today, 1/13/18. Hello, I am writing today to complain about the HORRIBLE experience my family had this morning with the Bayside Animal Clinic, on Bell Blvd., in Bayside NY. I called on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at 9:38 am, to make an appointment for Saturday, January 13, 2018. I was given a 10:15 am appointment for Saturday, January 13, 2018. We arrived promptly this morning for our appointment. The problems started right off the bat. The male receptionist was blabbing on the phone, and did not even look up to acknowledge us.....my son and I, and a howling cat in his cage. After about 5 minutes, he got off the phone and still ignored us. I had to ask a different staff member to help us. We were then told that we had NO APPOINTMENT, and they would not take our cat, even though I had just called the day before to make the appointment. I glanced over and saw a dog named Molly, and it was Molly who was given our 10:15 am appointment. We were told they were "booked" and nobody could see our poor cat. The male receptionist continued to ignore us and be rude. I am stunned on so many levels. First off, that the receptionist can even keep his job. Second, that my appointment was completely ignored. Third, that the Bayside Animal Clinic treated us with such disdain. We have used this clinic in the past, and the receptionist and staff WERE wonderful. Not anymore. I will never use Bayside Animal Clinic again. We were forced to leave without our cat being seen. This is inexcusable. Oh, and you might want to teach your staff to be neater and cleaner. As we were leaving, a dog peed on the door mat. Instead of cleaning it up, we watched a staff member simply throw a towel on it! My pup was limping one night, so I came to Bayside Animal Clinic because it was the only place opened at that time to see what was wrong with my pup. The vet who did the check up said my pup needed a knee surgery and that it would be best if he stayed the night at the clinic. The overall total came out to $5,000 for the check up, medicine, and the overnight stay. $5,000 is a hefty amount of money, and I didn't have much on me, so I declined and took my pup home with me. Before I left the clinic, the vet gave me a couple of different medication since my pup was not going to do the surgery totaling to around $500. I did not have enough money at the time, so they told me that I could sign up for Care Credit, which is like a credit card for their Clinic. The next day I went to a different clinic for a second opinion and showed the documents and medication I got from Bayside Clinic. The vet took a look at the documents and said that Bayside Clinic was a straight up scam. Out of all the different medications I received from Bayside Clinic, the vet said only one type of medication was necessary (which was the pain killers). The vet had also said it was not necessary for my pup to get knee surgery because even with surgery, the knee will not heal and the only reason why my pup should undergo surgery is if his knee was disconnected. After the second opinion, I called Bayside Clinic and asked to speak to the vet who looked at my pup the night before only to find out I couldn't speak to him because I signed off on paper work and that I didn't need to sign the papers and actually take the medication prescribed. Okay, first of all why the hell does that matter if I signed off papers to speak with him? Honestly, I find that bullshit because I trusted the vet and he said my pup NEEDED the pills when he actually didn't. Never again with this place--I've been swindled. I'm still paying off the "medication" that was not even needed for my pup's knee problem. read more

I'm definitely a crazy cat lady! I take care of all the stray cats in my neighborhood (yes, my neighbors hate me). One adorable cat in particular stole my heart and her name is Ms. Abby (say it with a southern accent). I took her in about 6 months ago and just last week she fell ill. I didnt know what to do, so I called Bayside Animal Clinic and they told me to come in right away. The receptionist is the nicest girl ever!! She's so professional and sweet. The vet was also great, he was really honest and I could tell he genuinely cares about animals. Is it expensive? hell yes! $231.00. Came here to have my 2 dogs checked up and for their shots. The staff here are wonderful, the place is so clean, the technology they have is great. The only thing I can say is that it's a little more expensive than other places. But I guess that's how all doctors and vets are nowadays. NOTE: This review is based on a phone call only. Recently moved to Bayside with our two middle-aged cats. Our previous vet was good, but not so great that we'd consider driving back to Astoria (like we gladly do for our dentist, Dr. Takos). Bayside Animal Clinic is the closest, so despite the 3.5 star review, we gave them a call. After all, 3 stars means "OK", and OK is good. My wife spoke with the receptionist to set up an appointment for two general exams. The receptionist was *very* nice, but we were shocked to hear a quote of $267/cat! Whoa!!! We asked for the itemization. The $267 per cat included a "worm exam and de-worming". Our cats have been indoor-only for 9 years. The last time they saw direct sunlight was when they were kittens. We mentioned this to the receptionist to see how the price would change without the worming procedures. The receptionist shared her medical training with us by mentioning her cats contracted worms brought into her house on the soles of her shoes and strongly recommended the procedure. Look. I was a math professor. For a few painful years, I was a math professor at a stinking community college -- I've seen bullshit flow like the Yangtze River during the high rainy season. Is it possible to bring worm eggs into your home with your shoes? Extremely unlikely, but yes, I suppose it is. Did it happen to our receptionist? Yeah, riiiiiiight. But whether the receptionist's cats really got worms from her shoe soles or not, she has to understand that when you tell someone $534 for feline physical exams, that's going to be high for most people. We called Veterinary Care Group, which is an 8 minute drive from us, but they have a 5-star rating on Yelp. Turns out they have a special on physical exams. $87 / cat (which includes a cat pedicure). We're saving $360 for driving 8 minutes. Will the care be worse? Judging from Yelp reviews, no, in fact it might even be better. In summary, the receptionist we spoke to was extremely pleasant, and I hope her employer recognizes this. However, the business model for Bayside Animal Clinic is wrong. You can't charge someone $267 per animal for a standard base-level physical exam. The price point for Bayside, Queens doesn't support that kind of expenditure. read more

My experience with this location hasn't been so good. First time when I showed up for my puppy's appointment, they told me that the appointment wasn't in the system. Then they confirmed that I did have a appointment on this day according the medical record. After all, I had to wait for at least 1 hour at the waiting area then by the time I left the office it was 3 hours later. Today I called the office and asked why the office hasn't followed up with the future vaccine schedule. The office girl named Christina told me that it's not their job and I should have done my homework before purchasing a dog.... seriously? That is the rudest comment I ever heard. Id give it negative stars if possible. I only came here because when I bought my puppy, the store was affiliated and was told all my shots would be free. Free was opposite of all the money I spent that first month. Aside from that .. my puppy got sick and fainted I quickly rushed him to them where they told me they would keep him over night. The next day I went to pick him up and they told me he was fine - no explanation of what had happened and then charged me $1700 !!! I was told to fix him it would be a minimum of $1000. I took my puppy to Whitestone animal hospital and spent $420 to update all his shots, his surgery, the antibiotics and the cone ! If anyone would like to have a class action lawsuit against this clinic for malpractise on their pets please contact me , On Aug 4th one of the vet techs let go of my dog while he was on the table , knowing that he cannot see or smell, He came forward and in a heartbeat he fell straight down onto his nose, hence inducing a traumatic brain injury, Since then he is unable to localize to sound although he hears and understands everything, HE is spatially disoriented, cannot navigate around the one floor of the house he has always had access to and cannot find his treats on the floor when they are thrown no matter how close to him they are, He cannot follow me when I am calling him or clanking loud noises, HE is severely brain damaged, The clinic said they wanted me to go elsewhere if I kept asking them for free ongoing treatments and if so they would provide me with the vet's insurance info and my dog's records. Now they say I can get it within a week, The lawyer said they have to give me his info, and it is mine,There is no lawyer who wants this case because the animal's life is viewed as property and the return of the case would be less than the cost of the legal fees, So I have to proceed in civil court I was going to this vet since Jan 2017 every week or twice a week and also for my cat and have dumped so much money into their practice, and this is how they treat me when they damage my dog and ruin my life!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I came to get yearly checkup and vaccines for my cat about a month ago and I regret it so much. I recently moved to Flushing and had to find an animal clinic for my cat, he's 17 months old now. I yelped and found this place with good ratings but I regret not doing enough research about this place before my visit. A white male doctor with long hair took less than 5 minutes to look at my cat for physical checkup and gave us a lot of information about unnecessary things that were irrelevant to my cat's vaccines or health. We told him that our cat is an indoor cat and does not go out at all except for his annual checkups to the clinic. When he measured our cat's weight on the scale, there was a blanket covering the scale; who knows how long they've used that and whether they even wash that? And when he took my cat's rectal temperature, he used a digital thermometer, which he took from a thermometer stand next to the sink, without cleaning it BEFORE OR AFTER using it. I was going to say something but I assumed the stand, where he put back the thermometer, was filled with some sanitized/alcohol to clean the thermometer. This is an animal clinic and I thought 'of course it's cleaned, they're not going to use the same one they've used on other animals and just put it back in the stand; there must be some cleaning solution in there?' But now that I think back, i don't think it's cleaned at all.. He told us that my cat needs this, this, this, this, this and went on about a brand named 'revolution' and that my cat NEEDS TO GET ALL OF THESE SHOTS including revolution. Then he told us that the bill came to over $700 including rabies and heartworm and etc. We gave the front desk our cat's medical record from our previous clinic from the city so that they can look at it and tell us which ones our cat needs for his annual checkup and vaccines. My bf and I thought it was strange to give him all these shots in one visit (even human doctors don't recommend getting more than 3 vaccines in a single visit) and decided that we only give him 3 vaccines (rabies, heartworm and leukemia) for the visit. The doctor took advantage of us (it's our first time raising a cat) and our cat and tried to make us get our cat other vaccines in one single visit WITHOUT TELLING US WHAT THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE FOR THESE VACCINES WHICH ALMOST KILLED MY CAT, except that my cat will be weak for a couple of days and the area where he got his shots (near his tail) will be sore. We took a cab home (which took only about less than ten mins) and after about two hours, my cat started to throw up consistently the whole night, every minute or so, all around the house.. We called the animal clinic emergency number that they had on their record and they told us to come in because 'vomiting is an unusual side effect.' Really???! The doctor did not inform us of anything about vomiting; as a side info, my cat received his vaccines at the previous clinic in the city and did NOT have any of this reaction nor vomiting! Thank goodness our cat is okay now but I waited to write this review to make sure my cat is okay. I strongly do NOT recommend this clinic! If you want to see a 'doctor' who does NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PET but ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY, feel free to go here. read more

I'll start off by saying that everyone who works here from the receptionists to the vets is pleasant enough. What's not pleasant is pricing on their services. They are robbing you for having a pet! I got a dog about a month back (puppy of 5 months). For all core vaccines, and Lyme Disease shot + Canine Flu shot - it came out to $502! I also purchased a low-cost neutering certificate for $65, which is supposed to cover the whole procedure, but somehow my bill still came out to $469! In the month that I've had him, I've had to sink a grand into necessary things that any where else would cost a fraction of that price! To top it off, when I looked at the bill for the neutering procedure, they charged me for stuff I didn't even ask for! (fluoride treatment for his teeth, etc). These guys are robbers. Pros: 1) Great hours. You can pretty much call any day and get an appointment, although you might have to wait a bit. 2) A lot of locations, plus a 24 hour hospital in Valley Stream 3) The techs and assistants are really sweet and helpful. Cons: 1) They don't explain what they're doing with your animal, or tell you the cost. A lot of stuff is unnecessary (like vitamin boosts) or can be found much cheaper elsewhere. 2) The do every test they possibly can, not caring about cost, without waiting for results to come or alternative answers. For example, I brought my cat in because he was vomiting. They did an X-ray, ultrasound, and a full GI series (about $4000) before they thought about doing a de-worming just any case there were any rare parasites/worms. I prefer a more conservative vet, who will rule the simpler things out before assuming the worst. 3) Some of the doctors are not personable, or even professional. They will laugh right in your face when you ask a question. They talk down to their staff. They don't explain things and they treat you like an idiot. This does not apply to all the doctors, but I've seen 4 of them and 3 were incredibly rude. Basically: I wouldn't recommend them unless you are really rich and don't mind being talked down to. read more

My dog has been going here, 10 years going strong, and due to the level of care Drs. I called this place to pick up a pet who was creamated. While on hold the recording promoted the benefits of declawing your cats so they don't damage furniture. I think New York and other states recently banned this awful practice. It's very disappointing this place not only still engages in it but that they are quick to put a cats life beneath that of furniture. I've been bringing both of my kittens here ever since I rescued them this summer. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and they don't try to sell you every medication under the sun like some other animal hospitals do. Though they are a bit pricy, their service is top-notch, and they helped me get both of my kittens healthy and happy. When I told them the kittens were rescued, they even gave me a rather large bag of kitten food for free. The vet also uses a one-time deworming medication, which is much better than the 5 day ones that you have to administer at home. read more

When I brought my kitten home from the ASPCA I realized she had diaherra. A few days later it was still the same. I thought it was the new food so I wasn't concerned since I followed the instructions I was given - gradually increase quantities of the new food with the old food she was given before. Almost a week later and no progress so I called the ASPCA and then they told me she already had the diaherra when she came in. She had been at the pound for over a month and they failed to investigate the problem or tell me when I adopted her. I decided to take her to the Bayside Animal Clinic because I didn't trust the staff at the ASPCA. I called the clinic at 6am just to check their hours and I almost fell out of my chair when a lady answered the phone (they have a 24 emergency clinic in Long Island). I explained the problem she told me to pull gently on her scruff to check for dehydration. I got an appointment the same day. We got an appointment with Dr. Defers and he answered all our questions. They took really good care of Abby she was better in a few days. It was not cheap, but I'm happy I took my baby to Bayside Animal Clinic. read more

Best vets ever!!! The doctors are amazing and the staff and vet techs are wonderful! I have to bring my pup in almost once a month for a non-serious condition and they are always so accommodating last-minute, know my voice and my pup and give him lots of love and attention whenever we come in.
