I took my dog and cat to see Dr. Jeong, because we are going to Taiwan. Dr. Jeong is very knowledgeable of international paperwork and process; his staff are very friendly and well organized. My cat is a geriatric cat, his team used the calming spray to make the vet appointment easy on him, I feel they really care about my cat. My dog had vaccine reactions before when he was young, Dr. Jeong made sure my dog has the allergy shots before the actual vaccine so he wouldn't have the vaccine reaction. Very good care!! I took my 2 year old French bulldog here for care. My dog was having issues with mobility and it became very concerning. We went to Petopia and had a x-ray done which showed some slight disc changes. The doctor recommended acupuncture and meds. Well within days my dog was walking normal with no further issues. I have came to this place for my 7 year old poodle and 3 year old Maltese since they were babies, and I have to say , compared to other vets they are very caring for my dogs. I can't relate to some of the bad reviews I'm seeing about Dr. Youngkee Jeong. It's actually the opposite of my experience. He has been seeing and caring for my darling Fefe eversince we adopted her. My shih tzu is turning 13 yo this month; old but cheeky. A couple of years ago, Fefe was almost dead due to organ failures. Distressed, I could not afford hospitalization. The good doctor brought the idea of home care, and offered to train me for free and closely monitor Fefe's health status. So there, we immediately jumped into action. I administered the IV daily by myself for over a month. Dr. Jeong consistently tested the dog, and continuously provided me with instruction on proper care. His door was open eventhough it's Sunday and/or it's not office hours. He called me as soon as the lab result was released. Knowing that I have affordability issues, he dropped some of the charges and reduced my bill. He saved Fefe's life. I concluded Dr. Jeong is not just a pet caring person, he also cares for the pets' humans. He shows sincerity and professionalism. I highly trust and respect him. read more

In the midst of the Covid situation, I recently went to get my dog checked and vaccinated. Satisfied like always! I've been taking my dog to this clinic for almost 6 years now and I've never been upset by the service or treatment here. Worst clinic ever! The doctor is very degrading and rude. Acts like you are poor and gives an option of purchasing two medications or more depending on his perception of you without even explaining or asking. My mom was asking questions about the diagnosis and all he can think about is ways to make more money. She paid almost $200 for anti itch creams and couldn't even get any explanation for his skin problems. Never coming back and definitely recommend you guys to find better clinics that show respect to pet owners and their pets. read more

I honestly don't understand why some people left bad reviews here. Dr. Jeong saved my boy/dachshund 5 years ago by diagnosing his IVDD issue right away & sending us to the right doctor & made an arrangement to perform the surgery on him the same day. He was able to fully recover & still living a very happy & healthy life. Our another dog (Golden retreiver) just got sick about 5 days ago & Dr. Jeong again diagonised her issue of having generic hip dysplasia issue & made an arrangement to send us to the right specialist & she is currently recovering from the surgery she just had couple of days ago. Dr. Jeong is a lifesaver to our 2 dogs so far!! We are forever greatful & don't have any words to express how much we apprecite him for it. We have been bringing our 3 dogs to Petopia Animal Clinic for about 7+ years. We cannot say enough about the professionalism and compassion that Dr. Jeong and the veterinary staff exhibit. In addition their extensive knowledge and proactive treatments, they are genuinely good people who care about their four-legged patients (and their family!) They are reasonably priced and have never tried to push unnecessary procedures or tests. Most down to earth, caring and loving vet & staff we've been to in a while. Both the staff and Dr. Jeong have gone out of their way to answer our questions and concerns. We would highly recommend this place and will continue to take our 3 dogs for his services here! We live in other state & takes long travel time to get to this clinic, but it doesn't matter to us. TL;DR: Petopia made multiple medication dispensing mistakes which put our 12 yo dog in critical condition within days, forcing us to euthanize her. They refuse to admit responsibility and showed no empathy. I should have listened to all of the bad reviews online and the warnings from family friends not to come here. We brought our dog in for a persistent cough about 6 months ago. She was put on heart medication and a diuretic. After a couple refills, we caught a mistake they made switching the labels on the medications. Luckily we were able to catch the mistake before giving our dog the wrong doses. I understood that people make mistakes so I didn't reprimand them for it. A few more months later, she's put on a third medication for blood pressure. I called for a refill on the first two medications: the heart and diuretic meds. I remember specifically asking for the FUROSEMIDE (diuretic), quoting "THE WATER PILL". When my mom picked up the medication, she was given the heart medication but not the diuretic, and instead was given a second dose of the blood pressure meds. I've worked in retail pharmacy for years; I understand what the process is like behind the scenes. It's not up to the patient to know what the pills look like. After we ask for specific meds, it's up to the healthcare workers to dispense the correct meds. They should have records of when each pill was dispensed and keep track of refill times to ensure proper doses are being used by the patient and inform them when they are not. We trust them to know what they're doing. So unknowingly, we gave our dog no diuretic pill, causing fluid retention in her lungs and abdomen and a double dose of the blood pressure pill. For the next 3 days, we witnessed her rapidly declining; unable to sleep, persistent coughing and wheezing, fainting spells, not eating/drinking/urinating. We then admitted her to an emergency animal clinic where scans showed the fluid retention in her body causing the difficulty in breathing, as well as an enlarged heart on the brink of heart failure. Within the first hour of her hospitalization, they told us she was in a critical condition and had less than a 5% chance of making it past the 24-hour hospitalization. We had no choice but to euthanize her because of Petopia's mistake. When our dog was diagnosed, we understood that the medications were not a cure. They were only to ensure she lived her remaining years in somewhat comfort, but during the mere 6 months we were with Petopia, they couldn't even manage that. Their mistake accelerated her decline, causing her to pass painfully. After coming home from putting down my family dog, I made a call to Petopia. Understandably I was frustrated and upset with them but my goal of the call was not to scream and punish them, but to plead for them to double check their medications going forward; that their work is important and the fatal consequences that can come from a simple mistake. When I explained the situation, the technician on the phone was very unsympathetic that I had to put my dog down. The first thing he did was make an excuse and put the blame on me, claiming I had requested the extra dose of blood pressure medication. Again, as I had worked in pharmacy before, I understand how to keep track of meds that aren't in sync. I told him that I specifically requested "the Furosemide; the WATER PILL" and he said "But Furosemide comes in a tablet form". This just proved that he does not know that Furosemide is a diuretic (commonly known as a water pill). But I still don't fault him on that. It's not the technician's job to know what the medications do. But he could have been more empathetic and taken responsibility for his mistake. He is, after all, in a patient facing job. In the end, it's sad to see that there are some clinics we leave our pets to that don't take veterinary care seriously. I want to say this was a single case, but these numerous bad reviews say otherwise. Please don't take a chance on your pets at this place. Your pets deserve better. read more

I had been here for 6years because it is the closest animal clinic,but each time I visit they always overcharged and very rude and unprofessional. I called them before visiting even though they charged me $65 office visiting fee instead of $45 .The reason is I called them only 30m ago .It is ridiculous! And they charged me about $200 each time to visit ,but I recently found out the good vet and visited there for the same reason. They charged me only $105 everything. TRIGGER WARNING: DEAD PET 2 DAYS AFTER VISITING THIS VET DUE TO WRONG DIAGNOSIS/ TREATMENT PLAN I've heard numerous bad reviews about this place prior and I remember reading reviews about how multiple people's dogs died after coming here. Just my dad's luck. He had to put his dog down today- a fairly young dog due to the doctor's wrong diagnosis and recommendation 2 days after coming to this place. An absolutely heartbreaking event that nobody should have to go through due to the carelessness of a vet. Furthermore, My dad's dog had liver/ gallbladder issues that came up and the vet forced my dad to buy prescription CARDIAC HEALTH food. I'm in finance so this is worlds apart from me but I even know that that doesn't make any sense. My sister who is currently attending vet school at Cornell said that that isn't allowed as it is a prescription food and there has to be underlying issues related to that specific food being prescribed. I have been here on numerous occasions when my doggy was sick or hurt and each time the Doctor was able to figure out what was wrong with her. They certainly do not try to overcharge you. The Doctor will always try to go the most affordable route. I have been to a few other veterinary clinics before but Petopia is the one I keep going back to when my dog is sick. Some of these negative reviews are really weird and kind of petty, like they're people who just want to give a bad review for the sake of giving a bad review because they have the privilege to do so; it also sounds like they want to be outraged because pet care is a sensitive topic and they're scared of being held responsible for their pets' ailments [or more realistically, simply can't afford the care], even if it's at the expense of a perfectly competent vet's reputation. (Seriously, how can you tell if the receptionist sounds "like she doesn't want to be there", or that it means she's "too tired to care for your pet'? Like, how exactly do you deduce someone's intent just from their tired tone of voice? Or, from another reviewer, and I'm glad someone else pointed this out, how can you tell just by hearing someone's voice that she's "probably a teenager"? As for the complaint for the unreasonable prices for examination and "garbage" disposal fees [assuming the reviewer meant medical waste--a.k.a. syringes], $45 for an exam at a private vet [such as Dr. Jeong] is standard, and that goes for the $4 medical waste disposal fee because they need to follow NYS regulations [disposal and transportation of biohazardous/infectious wastes, requires a permit, etc. ]. If you visit, say, 5 other private vets in NYC, I'm sure you'll find similar pricing throughout. I've only been to one other vet in the same area but that one charges $42 exam/$4 disposal, which is really only $3 less). These reviews should be about what's really important, like if the vet takes good care of the animal or not, or if some slight could or couldn't be remedied when you try to discuss it. All that said, I've been going to Petopia for about 4 years now, and I've had a pretty good experience with them. Firstly, I started going to them a little bit before I got my current job, so I had that time transitioning between trying to scrimp on any optional care for my dog Eggo and then being able to afford all the proper care once I got my job. That said, I know the pressures and stress of wanting to take care of a pet but not being 100% able to afford it, and if you're a pet owner, you NEED be responsible and have a steady income. Don't go to a private vet expecting the bill to be comparable to the costs of care from a humane society or other similar institution because it WILL cost more. I also don't know if it's a harmony thing with personalities or what, but I've never had any scarring problem with any of the people who worked at Petopia like some of the bad reviewers had, and I've met a good handful of secretaries/nurses/interns rotating in and out of the place throughout the years. The only problem I have is the language barrier, because my first language is English and Dr. Jeong and some of his assistants' first language is Korean, so I oftentimes have trouble understanding him through his accent. However, everything they charge you for is carefully described and listed in English on the computer screens in the exam rooms, you're free to read through it and ask questions, and they always ask you to confirm whether or not you want to accept or reject optional fees for certain tasks. Eggo has gotten several inconclusive x-rays and tests done here at one point because of some strange illness she had (that scared me sleepless, and during my finals week!!!) for about 3 weeks that involved her whimpering and yelping when she sometimes moved, loss of appetite, and shivering. The reason I gave them 4 stars and not 5 was because, admittedly, Dr. Jeong couldn't confidently diagnose the problem. He told me to bring her in for an emergency surgery because it looked like one of the xrays showed something blocking her intestines, so he called in another surgeon, I dropped her off, they shaved her belly, took another xray, called me to come back, and told me they called the surgery off because the object had disappeared. He and the other doctor agreed that the risk of putting her under and picking around wasn't worth the pain Eggo would have to go through during recovery in addition to the costs and possibility of not accomplishing anything, and decided I should just wait it out because the object may have passed. He then offered some gastrointestinal food, pain killers, and antibiotics which I bought for her and she just slowly eased out of it and became better again over the course of a few weeks. Ever since this happened, whenever I bring her in for anything, Dr. Jeong would ask follow-up questions about how she was behaving or feeling, or if I ever found out what was wrong with her, and to me that kind of commitment proves that he does care about the animals he treats, despite what some of the non-believers here say. So yes, it is expensive, but to me, having a consistent, reliable vet such as Dr.Jeong as a safety net for your little (or big) loved one to fall back on is worth it. If not for him I wouldn't be able to spend the holidays with Eggo. read more

I want to give them zero star, if i could. The receptionist answers the phone as if she does not want to be there, her voice always seem tired. You don't want to talk to someone who does not want to be there. That means they are too tired to care for your pet. How much care do you think they will give to your pet....minimum. The so called owner's wife (more professional term should be "office manager or the management") is RUDE and should not answer the phone or just not be at the office. She is just a distraction with a rude attitude and very unprofessional. The office should close ....because they are all QUACKS. I went here for the second time yesterday with my two GSD puppies Sasha and Kai for their second and first round of shots respectively and microchipping for Kai. The staff was friendly and I was relieved to know that I could be with both of them as they were getting their shots(not sure if other places do that as well but still), and Dr. Jeong gave me advice on how to take care of their health as he examined them. I just wish his assistant wouldn't ask me a million times if I'm starving Sasha(which I clearly dont when a) Kai is a plump little furball and b) Dr Jeong even said it's part of the growing process. Also, I won't say they're overpriced because I have no basis for comparison with other vets but they charge a basic $50fee just to see your puppy and when they ask you to bring a fecal sample for intestinal parasite screening, you'll find out it's $40 each later-not that I wouldn't have done it but it'd be nice to be told things beforehand. Also, Dr. Jeong said the inside of Sasha's ears were very dirty and that he'd do a complimentary cleaning for me which I appreciated so I agreed to buy a bottle of the $38 product. When he examined Kai he said his ears were very dirty too and proceeded to clean them without hesitation or consultation and the receptionist later told me that they charged $30 for Kai's ear cleaning. All in all it's a nice place with nice staff but I just wish they would be a bit more considerate in explaining fees. As a doting puppy owner I'm happy to do anything to make sure my furbabies are healthy but tbh the $448 bill yesterday was a little overwhelming read more

I know the previous reviews have commented on the staff members' negative attitude, but maybe they've recently changed their staff b/c they treated me pretty well. They were all polite and fluent in Korean and English. I also liked the fact that they were actively using the computer system and charting things right away. The doctor was pretty thorough and appeared knowledgeable. He was also pretty clear about the cost, which was reasonable (believe me, I've called over 10 vets around here to compare). He did not rough-handle my dog, which made me happy. I had one of my dog's teeth cleaned. Dropped her off in the morning, and she was ready for pick-up around 3 pm (unlike the previous review). My dog recently had an infection in his eyes and ears so i visited here. I dont know about the previous bad comments about this place. They probably hired new staffs. The current staffs were great, both of them were polite (they made me feel very comfortable) . Also Dr. Jeong explained to me how to clean the dogs ears and stuff step by step until I understand perfectly. About the price, it was very reasonable for me. In my opinion - Comparing to different animal clinics, this place have the most reasonable & affordable price. The doctor leading this place is extremely rude and stuck up. The previous pet care place I went to had a licensed vet tech leading it. Their business is no longer open. I came to get my dog his yearly vaccine. When I told the doctor at Petopia who my previous vet was he claimed that being a vet tech did not count as being a real doctor, like his vet tech assistant standing next to him. He claimed that I wasn't feeding my dog enough and that the shot from the vaccine hurt my dog because he was too skinny. That doesn't really make sense in my head, but what do I know, I'm not a doctor. The concern about weight I can understand, I have a German Shepherd who's a year old and still growing. I can't see his ribs at this point, but I can feel them, which many claim is a acceptable weight point for Shepherds. The blaming the shot on my Shepherd's skinny weight is just strange, to be honest. There's some more sour tastes in my mouth from interacting with him, but the above was what ticked me off the most. My cat was ill and needed to be put to sleep. My wife called this office and they quoted the Service as $45.00 for cats under 5 lbs. This was the best price (Times are tough) and it was 2 blocks from my home. They did make sure to tell me several times that if my cat was over 5 lbs the charge would be $99.00. As we were told several times the price, we knew it was without doubt quoted as $45.00. I explained several times that she was under that weight and it would not be a problem. I will admit the service was good. They did a caring job of a not so easy task. As we were leaving the young lady behind the counter said," I'm sorry I quoted you the price for dog (Several times over a three day period mind you.) not cats. Cats are $120.00." So this woman was telling me cats cost more than dogs??? This was obviously bait and switch or a variation there of. I was distraught and my wife made me walk out while she paid the fee. To do something like this to people who are heart broken at the loss of a pet is despicable. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. As well as the Department of Consumer Affairs. I learned a lot of things from Dr. Jeong; some things I expected with the price of my visit, and some he gave for free. $45 of useful info pertaining to my rescued kitten: Weight, age, flea-infestation status, diet Complimentary rant: 1) Petopia is a clinic and provides thorough consultations and quality care. -- I came here for a physical exam (I explicitly stated this when I made my appt), but since I am refusing their vaccination services and am opting for Petco instead, I am being cheap and irresponsible. 2) Petco vets do not provide check-ups and its vets serve as a vaccine assembly line. They're apparently only in it for the money. They can offer cheap prices because Petco gives them rent-free space AND free marketing by lending their brand name. -- I obviously did my research beforehand and spoke with the highly personable vets at Petco. In fact, they honestly told me vaccines for cats, as for humans, are not always necessary, but are highly recommended. They also recommended me to visit a private vet because they don't provide physical exams. 3) People who take strays off the streets are doing more harm to the animals. -- This is an applicable point if rescuers don't follow through with situating their rescues in a comfortable arrangement. I'm actively searching (and REsearching) where or whom I can trust this cat with AFTER I've buffered its health to the best of my ability. 4) Shelters don't provide good care and adoptions often leave animals more traumatized. -- I did mention to Dr. Jeong that I'm doing research and not dropping the kitten off just anywhere. 5) It is best to TNR. -- Hence why I'm making sure this kitten will be vaccinated, dewormed, and FIXED: in case I have to release him after all. 6) If you take in another living being, its life is your responsibility. -- I visited the clinic for a health assessment (the first of many if necessary). If I wasn't a responsible rescuer, I wouldn't be paying out of pocket for an animal I probably won't keep. And please, Dr. Jeong, don't preach to your client. Dr. Jeong then blew up at me with the above rant, which I deeply resent as he had no idea what my background or intentions were regarding the rescued kitten. It was highly disrespectful to talk down to me just because I refused his service because I found another provider that had a more affordable price. Added to that, I had to listen to his whole spiel before he was willing to adjust my bill. As I left, he mentioned that he'd have to exterminate his whole office now since my flea-infested kitten has been on the premises. First, when I was booking the appt, I made sure to verify that it was acceptable for me to bring in the kitten, whom I suspected of carrying fleas. Second, that didn't stop him from calling in another patient immediately after I exited the office to pay at the desk. Lastly, why was it pertinent to verify my ethnicity before telling me a story about a Chinese man whose dog died because he didn't provide the dog with a good vet who could diagnose its condition before it was too late? This vet is obviously very passionate about something: whether its his patients, his business, or his ego is up to debate. I've been taking my dogs here for about 6 years? For annual shots, teeth cleaning, health problems and surgery. The staffs, interns, and Dr. Jeong has always been friendly and helpful! The price is reasonable and they are always hands on. They always explain the procedures and prices before they do anything! Best local vet! read more

Save your time and your money this place is horrible This is not my regular vet but I live closer here I took my dog here because he gets regular allergies yearly I had contacted my vet and asked him the name of the medication that he always gives me. After the doctor examined my dog he told me he doesn't have that medicine but will give me something good 3 weeks after my dog has the same skin allergies an when I asked him for an prescription he tells me to bring my dog in so he can charge me again for a prescription which is the same medication I wanted from the beginning will be contacting the attorney general and bbb regarding this clinic read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. First of all, everyone here is extremely rude, especially the receptionist. I wanted to get my cat neutered, so I called to ask for pricing. She said to come in for a checkup and speak to the doctor. I went, and asked the total price for everything ( I also didn't know how the neutering process went, you have to get a shot, then come back for the surgery). The Dr. first said the total price would range to around $300. I paid that amount and my cat got his shot. After that, I got a follow up call before the surgery day and was asked to bring a deposit for the surgery. Now I told the receptionist that I already paid, but she said that was only the price for the shot and the surgery fee is separate. I was never told that there was an extra fee for the surgery, and I was told by the doctor that the total cost would be around $300, but now they are saying that I have to pay an extra $300 for the surgery totaling to $500-600. If I am paying money and getting a surgery done, I would like to know the total cost before I do the procedure, wouldn't you? I told her that I was never told that there a separate cost. She then starts being extremely rude saying that she's never experienced someone being so picky with the cost of the surgery, stating that I'm giving her a hard time, and this is usually the price. What I'm outraged with is the fact that they didn't tell me the correct cost of the surgery when I went for a consultation.The money I don't care about. I could pay even more money if it's for the sake of my cat's health, but I felt cheated. I feel like they don't even care about customers and their pets, and are more obsessed with making money. Charging a couple hundred bucks and then trying to cancel my appointment too? If I'm a customer and paying money, I deserve the right to get respect and treated right, instead, she makes me look like I'm being cheap with money, then screams at me, and tries to cancel my appointment, then hangs up on my constantly. What kind of customer service is this? What's the point of them having their hospital open? The Dr. was also a bit rude, calling my cat a retard, also mentioning that persian cats are all born with a retardation. I asked to speak with the doctor, and the receptionist kept refusing to put him on the phone. I asked if it's that hard to speak with him, she was just trying to put up a fight, so I said that I can go to the hospital myself if she'd like, which she responded by shouting "I don't care" and hanging up. I called about two more times, and as soon as she heard my voice, she kept hanging up on me. I also called two other vets after this incident and asked an estimate for the neutering my cat, and they specifically told me that there's a separate price from the shot and the surgery. They explained the complete process over the phone. This just proves to show that this place is just shady and they just try to hook you on and steal your money. I'm never coming back to this place ever again, and everyone should avoid this hospital for sure. read more

This doctor obviously does not like animals. When something was wrong with my cat, the usually vet I go to the dr wasn't available so I took my cat here to get him checked up. My cat wouldn't stay still when the dr tried putting something up his butt (cat had a bloody anus), and the dr kept getting frustrating and said he's not going to do it with an attitude. I wanted to ask him how he would feel if someone tried to put something up his butt! Of course an animal will not stay still. He has no patience or love for cats. At the end, we ended up paying hundreds of dollars and nothing was done for my cat's bloody butt!!! He didn't do anything for that problem and just kept telling me what else was wrong with him. My cat had bad gingivitis, etc etc, but suggested no solution. He was a real douche. Never went back there again. read more
