My little one, Lily needed surgery as her cancer had returned and with so many concerns and questions- my experience with Patricia alone made all the difference in what was a stressful and daunting experience into an "alright, I got this. My dog is in the best of hands" type of mindframe. I first went to VCG at Little Neck and was then referred to the Whitestone location as a surgery date opened up last minute. Dr. Rojas was amazing from start to finish. I was a bit apprehensive seeing some mixed reviews as this was a big surgery BUT I am so glad I made that judgment call for myself. Dr. Rojas was amazing. He answered ALL my questions and I felt confident leaving my baby in his hands. The reviews in regards to pricing- the pricing can be higher than other animal clinics BUT the difference in care and service speaks for itself. It does not compare! When I tell you that Patricia texted me everyday and night to check in on my dog, offered to come to my house to get my dog to eat when she didn't have an appetite post surgery, was going to pick up my dog for her follow up appt in the event I couldn't make it as I was taking care of a newborn... Their service and level of care and compassion absolutely blew my mind! I feel so fortunate that we found VCG- especially the Whitestone location with Stacey, the other staff and Dr. Rojas. They also were very accommodating with our schedule and didn't charge any extra fees. I went in looking for a dental consultation and was told the price would be $80. They ask if I wanted to do a chest x-ray and said I would get a quote. Great, I said, but I didn't get a quote and they ended up doing the x-ray. I also get sent home with medication for my dogs lungs which apparently he didn't need because the original diagnosis might not have been accurate according to the doctor. They also charge for a lot of different tests that other vets don't do, which I understand but it ends up adding a lot to the total bill. So far I got quoted around $1700 to get the whole dental procedure done but apparently that's a whole separate bill - I went in for a consultation for $80 and left with over a $1k bill totally separate from the $1700 quoted. Then I call back and they say that the $1k bill could be taken off of the $1700, but apparently that wasn't true either. Then I ask if I could get the results of my dogs blood test back and they said they would but I waited and received no correspondence. Overall I feel like I was taken for a ride and spent $1k for nothing of value. read more

If I could give this vet 0 stars I would. STAY AWAY!! As a new pet parent, I was seeking comfort, reassurance and a warm atmosphere. Needless to say, I got none of that. Starting with the front desk - Diane is so unpleasant and acts like every ask is an inconvenience. 0/10 Next, Dr. Rojas is highly unprofessional, negligent and just downright rude. -5/10 I took my pup here for what seemed to me to be a UTI. They ran a myriad of tests which I did not hear back about for another 7 DAYS! Every time I called to get the results they were less than pleased, gave me no answers and called me back after hours so I couldn't come in or call back if I had further questions. I took my pup for a second opinion because after two weeks she still was not better. Long story short, she has a giant stone in her bladder and needs immediate surgery. This could have happened 3 weeks sooner had Dr. Rojas had any care in the world for my pup who was clearly in pain and very uncomfortable. The ONLY good part about this place is Stacey. She is the sweetest vet tech and actually cares for animals. If you are looking for a place that is cold, dr's are negligent and you have to wait 3+ weeks for an appointment, this is your place! Otherwise, steer clear. Not worth the hassle, plus the 10k that I now am paying for my pup to undergo surgery. read more

This is the place I bring my dogs. I called there last Wednesday because my dog was throwing up and had diarrhea and he was lethargic. I was told they could see him next week or take him to an ER or another Vet which I ended up doing but precious time was wasted when I live down the block from this place . Please don't waste your money here. I came here last week because one of my cats had vomited 3 times in 3 days and wasn't eating very much. The vet examined her for less than 2 min before trying to sell us $600-800 worth of bloodwork and x-rays. He did not even use his stethoscope to check her heart or lungs or check her skin or coat. I had to keep asking questions for him to even tell me about my cat's health based on the physical exam as he kept trying to negotiate with me on more drugs and services. I went to another vet today who gave a thorough examination and explained that my kitty was in good health but probably stressed from my long-term guests. He actually did not recommend more tests based on what I described, which is that my kitty is playing, pooping, and peeing, not in pain, etc. He also physically checked for abdominal pain and obstruction and said it was highly unlikely. My cat just has a low appetite and he recommended a different diet. With Whitestone, I'm upset that I paid $75 here for an "exam" that literally lasted 2 minutes plus $115 of upsold services that we didn't need. This vet will just try to squeeze you for money and not care for your fur baby. Beware!! I used to live in Houston and we had great pet care there for $15/visit that was way more caring and thorough! read more

great experience. recently just got my first own pet and wanted to take all the correct precautions and make sure he was taken the vet immediately and checked out. The service was great and they explained everything in detail and answered all my questions, they're so friendly and love playing with my pup. He received all his Vaccines and they're so caring afterwards. My first visit I received a little goodie bag with lots info, including pet insurance and diseases, fleas and ticks. After my long time vet shut down their vet practice to focus on their rescue mission only, I was nervous I wouldn't be able to find vet I trusted as much. Dr. Rojas and the team at Whitestone Animal Hospital alleviated my concerns. My dog was overdue for some dental work and I was more than comfortable having Dr. Rojas handle putting her under anesthesia. My dog also had a bump that concerned me. Dr. Rojas was extremely patient with me and answered all my questions during my appointment as well as later on the phone when I had some follow up questions. He helped me make a decision I was comfortable with and we removed the bump while she was under for the dental work. Dr. Rojas was meticulous - I can't believe how much better her teeth look. He also did a great job with her stitches which are very smooth and clean. The staff is also great. They make you feel comfortable, care about your pets and are very professional. I first came to this Vet in April 2020, right after the pandemic began. I had recently moved to the area and my dog ended up getting really sick. I called and the took her in the afternoon. The Vet was very good with my dog who normally isn't nice but with this practice my dog is always well behaved. My favorite thing about the practice is they always explain what's going on very well, and if I needed more clarification they take the time to explain. My 18 months puppy has a diarrhea for three days. I called office they told me bring my dog in. We saw Dr. Merker, who is very nice and calm to my puppy. He gives injection and 5 days antibacterial mediation. My little girl gets better after went home and had no more diarrhea . Dr. Merker didn't talk to me much but he did answered all my questions. Most important, he treat my dog and didn't request any unnecessary test. Rita is so sweet. She remembered my puppy's name when I called next day follow up on stool report. One more note, the other staffs were very nice too. I saw a girl hold a Bonny when owner was walked away for 20 minutes. Rita and girl pet the Bonny as their own pet. I brought my adorable 9 month old poodle to this establishment in January on the 28th. Randall was totally healthy up to this point, but had a small lump on his chest. Dr. Rojas said it was no problem, the lump was nothing and he can easily cut it out, no problem. Randall died in my arms 15 minutes after I got him home from this disastrous establishment. I wish I could give negative stars. I went to this vet once 4 years ago. It was my friend's recommendation (She had a puppy). It was an male senior vetenarian who examined my kitten. I just adopted a kitten from the rescue center. He had to take his 2nd shot, deworming medicine and had a little bit of coughing issue. First of all, it looks like he didn't like cats or. is inexperienced with cats. He was trying to feed a deworming pill to my 5 month kitten.He tried to open kitten's mouth by force twice and then he've used metal tool to open my kitten's mouth. Well. Other vets I have been to after this one- they use either syrange( and liquid deworming medicine so the cat could swallow better) and/or open kitten's mouth very gently. After deworming medicine, my cat was very upset and bit his hand. The vet gave my cat the rabie shot without our permission. He just said, " oh he needed it anyway." After this horrible experience with vet, I never went back here again. They may kow the dog but if you have a cat go somewhere who is specialized in the cat. read more

If I had a choice to give a zero star I definitely would. This place used to really good when I was taking my dog there for shots and other health conditions. I recently got a kitty and I paid over $100 the first time excluding the vaccination. The kitty needs 3 vaccinations for 3 weeks apart. I just went there today for the second vaccines and they charged another $70 of exam fee. Not to mention they spent less than 5 mins just checking her eyes, they have no right to charge another exam fee just 3 weeks after the fist visit. This place is a rip off and I don't recommend anyone to go there again. read more

This is my local vet where I formerly brought my dog and now bring my kitten. Personally I haven't had any bad experiences here so I continue to go. Prices are pretty standard for vet care from what I've compared with friends and family, around $60 for an initial visit that can be packaged with vaccines for a smaller fee. See Dr. Rojas if you like a warmer, more personal vet, or Dr. Meeker if you don't mind someone a little clinical. The reception staff and vet techs are also really friendly and even gave me a replacement pill at no charge when the first one got lost. I typically wait somewhere around 15 minutes past my initial appt. time. The wait has been as long as 35 minutes on a crowded day with an emergency knocking back the schedule, and other times I haven't waited at all. On average, though, about 15, not bad if you factor it in before you go. read more

I have been taking my dog here for about 5 years now. She is not the easiest patient, yet all the staff at Whitestone Animal Hospital always go out of their way to take good care of her. The vet techs are great and the vets are always on point. A week ago today we had to put our beloved old puppy to sleep. She was over 17 and 1/2 years old and stopped eating and drinking so we knew it was time. We called 3 other vets closer to our home but two of them were too busy to take us and one wanted to examine our dog before doing anything. Whitestone animal hospital is where we I used to take my other dogs growing up and where I took this dog when she was a puppy. When we called, Diane gave us an appointment within the hour and once were arrived was so kind and helpful. Dr. Merker as well as the vet assistant were so compassionate and caring. They were so gentle with our precious puppy and she passed so peacefully. We were allowed as much time as we needed with her and though it was and is such a difficult time, the people at Whitestone Animal Hospital helped to make this difficult time easier on us and we are so grateful. read more

Great vet great place. I trust dr merker alot. He comes off serious but when he's greeting my pet he comes off a bit silly which I can appreciate. I got my dog coco spayed here a few weeks ago and she healed fast and nicely. Prices aren't bad. Even the assistants are great. I can't recall her name but she has black hair and some piercings and tattoos. She's awesome with the animals too. I like both receptionists as well. Friendly and helpful. Love it here. The women that worked there was extremely helpful! My two kittens had fleas and I was in panic and didn't know what to do. I looked through yelp and contacted this place. She described to me about the medication they had and even said I didn't have to even go through the hassle of bringing the kittens in. She even gave me the cheaper one which not all vets would do because they would usually try to recommend the more expensive one. I loved how reassuring they were! I brought my 3 yr old cat over for for an exam for breathing issues. Wasn't really expecting to spending $200 for an x-ray, but Dr Merker said it was the best thing to do.. in additional to the $65.00 initial exam fee. And plus $100 extra for 2 shots, 1 anti inflammatory and 1 anti-biotic..Total cost $365.00.. I could've paid a little less at North Shore Animal League but this was closer and it was sort of short notice..Overall the experience was good..Prices slightly higher than some places..But in the end the staff was very professional and caring of cats.... read more

I don't usually take time out to write reviews but with the experience I had, I figured I would do so to save anyone from going here. I was having trouble with my dog who was about 18 years old (was blind in both eyes, hardly had any hearing, could hardly walk after two hip surgeries because his joints were so bad, wasn't eating, couldn't go to the bathroom on his own), and as hard as it was to even take this step, I realized he was suffering and was time to put him down. I brought him to Whitestone Animal Hospital despite numerous negative experiences I've had there, because I was desperate. My dog's health had declined quickly within the previous few days and couldn't wait for an appointment anywhere else. With tears in my eyes, I gave them an explanation of recent events and after a quick check up, the vet told me he needed to do a geriatric blood test, which would cost me around $300 (if my memory serves me correctly). I had been to my primary vet about three weeks prior, where they had performed a geriatric blood test, and since I was in no position to spend another $300 just weeks after already having done so, I asked if he could just call my vet to fax him over the results. He refused and said he needed a more up to date test (after three weeks?!). The vet and his assistant, Stacy, were very insensitive and harsh, and made me feel as if I were begging to put my dog down, with no good reason. In addition to Stacy's cold and condescending tone as I explained my dog's issues, she then told me that she has an old dog with an array of health problems that "lives on love" - I guess that was their best advice to treat a dog that was in severe pain. I felt as if I was being accused of just wanting to get rid of my dog because his health problems were becoming problematic. Just to make it clear, my dog was smashing hard into walls because he couldn't see, was yelping out in pain for the majority of the day and night and had refused to eat or drink water. I found this dog abandoned years ago by LaGuardia Airport and fell in love with him ever since. He had no teeth and hip problems when I found him, and I ended up spending over $4000 to fix his hips. I spent years of my life with this dog attached to my hip, I know my dog and I know his life was ending. As hard as it was for me to admit that, I didn't want to drag it out further..apparently, however, they did..but whatever makes them money, right? They refused to do anything for my dog without me going through [what I assume would be] a lengthy and expensive process, beginning with the blood test. Anyway, I felt a little crazy after leaving there, wondering if I was wrong and my dog really wasn't in as bad a shape as I thought he had been. I thought maybe these were just a bad few days and he would recover. However, four days later, even though I didn't think it possible, my dog became severely worse. I had to rush him to the College Point Animal Hospital (the vet was closed but she stayed open to wait for me because I was hysterical on the phone). My dog was yelping out in pain when I got there and Dr. Ryan simply took my dog's temperature and told me that his body was shutting down from the inside out. She said they would have to humanely euthanize him and, had they not, he would have died within the next few days. This was FOUR days after the vet at Whitestone Animal Hospital couldn't diagnose my dog without a blood test that would cost hundreds of dollars. FOUR days after Stacy suggested my dog could "live on love". These vets are out for nothing but money. They are rude, insensitive and cost my dog a painful and traumatizing four days because I refused to fall for their scheme. I am so glad I was able to find Dr. Ryan, who was so sensitive and kind. Her genuineness and caring approach really helped me through one of the saddest moments of my life. As for the doctors and assistants at Whitestone Animal Hospital, you should be ashamed of yourselves. A veterinary practice should always put an animal's health over money, and clearly that was not the case at Whitestone Animal Hospital. It is sad someone you are supposed to trust with your pet's life would try to take advantage of and capitalize on such a delicate and emotional situation. read more

The location is convenient, in the heart of Whitestone Queens, and the staff is not only professional, but very caring and compassionate as well. They not only take care of our own fur babies but also support our work with stray cats and kittens. Their prices are very affordable and all charges are clearly explained before treatment occurs.
