Although a very sad moment, Dr. Perkins and her assistants gave us the time to grieve over our cat. Our cat was handled with so much care---Dr Perkins gave us time for our pet to hear our voices and feel our touch a final time. I love Dr. Perkins! She is so knowledgeable, honest, compassionate and caring. She is also very patient listening to my questions/ concerns and provides good information and feedback. My 4 year old dog has been seeing her since she was a puppy and Dr. Perkins is great with her. It is hard to get through on the phone on most days, but once you do, her receptionists are great. They're both very direct, but I don't think they're rude at all. They're always really helpful and sweet to me when I speak with them. Parking sucks overall since it's in a residential neighborhood and near the Murray Hill LIRR station. Plus, there is alternate side parking. Sometimes I've been lucky, but it's best to go with someone who can watch the car while you run in. Overall, Dr. Perkins is an amazing vet and her staff is great. I was referred to this vet from another vet who had their location shut down due to the pandemic. I called in hopes of making an appointment, but the receptionist was so rude throughout the entirety of the phone call that by the time I was told they were not taking any new clients, I was actually glad to not have to step foot in their establishment. I was told Dr. Perkins is great, and I'm glad that so many people feel that way via Yelp. It is probably an unfortunate circumstance that I called with a receptionist so grumpy. read more

we waited for medicine for over 40 minutes because the assistant couldn't find it for 30 minutes, then waited for the doctor to arrive because for some reason they don't have the medicines name on file and wasn't sure if it was the right one. once the doctor finally arrived, the assistant made us wait even longer before actually giving us the medicine. and even after that, we had to wait about 10 minutes just to make the payment for the medicine. it seemed like the assistant didn't know anything about how to do her job without the doctor being there, because every little thing took way longer than it should have. first she didn't think to look in the fridge for medicine so it took 30 minutes just to find it, second she didn't even know if it was the right medicine so she had to wait for the doctor, third it took 10 minutes just to make a simple payment. what should've been a quick and straightforward process was made needlessly complicated and extremely frustrating, overall very unprofessional. read more

Dr. Perkins is the most sincere vet in the world. She loves animals and you can tell she cares about your pet as much as you do. I'm from Sunnyside and it's a little out of the way for me but it's worth it every time. They do have different hours now. They're usually open after 4:30pm so make sure you call them to make an appointment after that time. read more

I totally understand that we are in a pandemic and the world is not what it was but aside from all that I made an appointment about two months ago to get my Pomeranian spayed I spoke to Kathy on the phone who seemed very distraught and unsure of what she was doing. She also sounded like she really didn't have the time of day for my phone call but that's only the the beginning. I was referred to the clinic by my father who has brought his dog there and has had no problems in the past. I have a three-year-old Pomeranian who needed to be spayed upon making the appointment they said they would confirm her appointment the day before which they did and when Kathy left my me a voicemail to confirm she didn't even know my pets name and had to pause for about five seconds to see whether if it was a dog or a cat mind you when making the appointment they told me to bring her paperwork with all her shots and vaccines to make sure she was up-to-date and arrive 15 minutes early. Well I did arrive 15 minutes early and waited outside for about 25 minutes when I asked if they wanted to see the paperwork she said oh if you have it yeah that's great so from right there I thought they were off. She came back outside and gave me the copy of the vaccine sheet which she was supposed to keep for herself instead of giving me my original copy they told me to wait for them to call if I didn't hear anything by 4:30 PM everything was fine around 5 PM I called them and they said that she did great and they were keeping her overnight mind you I was never informed that they had to keep my dog overnight they never explained to me that if I was to bring my dog in on a Tuesday I could take her home the same day-sidenote I have three other dogs at home that have been neutered and spayed and I've never experienced this before. From the beginning they were completely unprofessional and sounded so inexperienced and I should've known from then that it was going to be an issue I explained that dog had severe anxiety and separation anxiety and I needed to take her home that night I picked her up she was completely out of it until the next day they didn't send me home with a cone or any type of medication for her pain and now she's home with an infection and it's probably due to the fact that that office is completely disgusting inside and there's boxes piled up I gave this rating a one star because that's all they deserve if I could give less I would. I'm so disgusted by the customer service the people that work behind the front desk should look for another job if they're unhappy with what they do for a living and honestly I'm disappointed in the vet herself because it cost me about $300 in medications now for my dog and she's constantly bleeding all over my house after this procedure I would never recommend anyone to go to this establishment this is the first and last time that I will ever visit them thank you so much for all the trouble you've caused. read more

I have been going here for years and Dr P has taken care of all my cats.She always has been terrific.Until now!Apparently this animal hosp merged with another over on Union St and Dr P is here in the morning for a few hours and then goes to the other place for the rest of the day.There is no receptionist and after 11:15 AM no one answers the door.If you have an animal here or need to.pick up an animal you cant!On Mon,Wed and Fri Dr P comes back here for one or 2 hours of appointments from 5 or 6 PM.Talk about inconvenient!This is really stupid.If you call this place the phone goes right thru to the Union St office and is mostly answered by voice mail.And no one calls you back!Also for the first time my siamese cat was not taken care of properly:he is really sick with liver and kidney problems and they didnt even address this!I brought him to another vet (thank God)and was told he probablywill not survive!I will never go to th his place again and I would suggest no one else does either.Dr.P is a wonderful lady but i think she is spread too thin. read more

I have been to many vets over the years in Manhattan, New Jersey and Queens and Dr. Perkins is the best I have ever found. She is a fantastic diagnostician and knows exactly what to do. Okay, this place REEKS. Reeks of smelly cats and dogs the second you step in, but don't let it deter you because Dr. Perkins is super nice and you want the best care for your furry friend. Dr. Perkins was caring and seemed to love all the animals. I took my kitty here for a check up and spay, and she was well taken cared of. Even got a mouse catnip toy when I picked her up. So why not 5 stars? Well, like I said, the place reeks and the receptionist is terrible. She seems to hate her job, her life, and anyone who walks into the office. So when I brought in my kitty for the spay, she just handed me a waiver to sign without giving me any of the risks for surgery and then when asked, she shrugged and said you know, the usual risks. NO I DON'T KNOW, LADY! Why don't you do your job for once and tell me what they are? Then she proceeds to misinform me about pick up time, making me waste a vacation day and $30 bucks in cab fare. :( So boo on you crappy receptionist and hurray for Dr. Perkins! This place went to highway robbery place. I feel bad for Dr Perkins as she is great doctor. I brought my dog and cat here before when Linda(front clerk lady) was working. Looks like chinese ppl took over this vet and Dr Perkins is still there but I am guessing she is just working as paid doctor or something. I am adopting 2 more cats so I called to find out how much it will cost me. First, doctor needs to check my cats and consultation cost $80 per cat plus $62 per cat for blood work to make sure my cats will be okay with anesthesia. After this, they can tell me how much is will cost me to neuter and spay my cats. Are you fucking kidding me?? When Linda used to work there, she helped me get some sort of certificate so we received discount to neuter our first cat and it cost us way less then $100 for everything!! No consultation involved no blood worked involved!!! After Chinese ppl took over, seems like this place became straight up bs. Dr Perkins, I am sorry to leave such a bad review and I wish I can continue to bring my cat and new cats coming to my house soon but I have to look into new vet now! read more

I am now on my second pet and using dr.perkins was a no brainer. She took amazing care of my rabbit and I immediately brought my new puppy to her when it was time for his puppy shots. Not only is she caring and very good with all the animals but her promises are well below eveyrone else in the area and she doesn't hit you for first time visit fees when you are going for a specific reason. This was the first vet I've ever been to, so I can't compare it to anywhere else I've been. I bought my pet rabbit here for his first checkup, it's very difficult to find a vet for exotic pets, but after a while I realized this place was very near my home and I called to check if they care for rabbits. When I called the first time, a friendly-young sounding voice spoke to me. Today, when I visited, the receptionist was not the same person I spoke to on the phone, she was kind of grouchy. Reminded me of one of my elderly co-workers, not very friendly. The vet was very kind! I didn't catch her name but I think its the Dr. Perkins everyone here loves! I was recommended by Dr. Perkin's receptionist Kathy. Kathy has been a loyal, generous and at times grouchy friend for the last 15 years. I've read all the reviews about Dr. Perkins, her office and her staff, and I have to say all that was said is true. Dr. Perkins is the kindest, most empathetic vet there is. The office is dated, (but quite homey) and at times may smell of animals and such, but take into consideration that she doesn't have a large staff that can keep up with the twice a day cleaning that a vet's office needs to stay odor free. And to hire the help she'd need to accomplish that would mean she'd have to hike the charges for her vet services in order to pay someone to clean the office constantly. All of you have mentioned that she is reasonable and doesn't charge for every friggin' thing she does for you, yet ever wonder why? Hmmmm. Kathy, the receptionist does have a lot on her personal plate, and the first impression most people receive from her is a bit abrasive. But to know her is to love her and accept the person she is without judgement. Everyone has their problems and cannot always put a smile on their faces when dealing with the public. She is sarcastic, funny, smart, grouchy at times, and speaks her mind. She does love her job by the way. Kathy knows her stuff. She is very active in the spay and release program and ventures into all of Queens to help control the stray cat population and feed and provide shelter for the colonies. Now how many of you can say you've trapped a feral, brought it to the vet to have it spayed or neutered and then released? Kathy also volunteers her time at 'The Worthy Pause' in Bayside, NY. She has worked there for over 10 years. With the help of Kathy and the use of a Have a Heart trap rented from The Worthy Pause, I just trapped my first feral boy. I brought him to Dr. Perkins this morning. I pray his blood results come back clean, and our intentions are to fix him, keep him indoors til we nurse him back to health (he has a bad front left and maybe broken right back paw) and then release him back into our yard where we've made a warm dry heated shelter for him that he calls home. read more

I have been brining my kitty here since she was a baby. She just died on Monday at 13 years old. I will miss this place. Dr. Perkins is such a wonderful Doctor. You can tell she really cares about the animals and has so much compassion for them. My kitty Ismini has been pretty tough to handle whenever she went to the vet, but Dr. Perkins was always so gentle and good with her despite the growling. The prices are very affordable. Dr. Perkins is a doll!!! Her receptionists are very helpful and worked with me to schedule appointments. However, her vet tech was not pleasurable to deal with. I believe her name was Michelle. I had a difficult situation to deal with, and to say she was rude and crass would be an understatement. I would expect someone that was working with animals and their owners in life or death situations would have compassion or at least a heart. Dr. Perkins made up for her short comings. read more

I would have given this hospital five stars but the place reeks of animal waste, I understand that it's an animal hospital but proper care and maintenance of the animals that live there would eliminate most odors. The staff are not friendly at all (except for the young girl and Lisa), the others seem miserable and are not people friendly. On that note, I think Dr. Perkins is top notch and their pricing is very competitive. I've referred friends and family to her and they've all raved about her. I'm actually quite surprised that no one else has reviewed this clinic. Her partner is ok--but I always ask to see Dr. Terri Perkins because I know my doggy and & I love her. She also took care of my previous pet, up until the day she passed away and Dr. Perkins has never delivered anything but stellar, patient, kind care to all my animals, past & present. Her prices are in the average range, but be prepared to wait a bit for appointments since she is extremely popular. Dr. Perkins is good if you have a check up and make an appointment well in advance,if you don't and you have a sick pet, you will have to find another doctor. Okay, normally I hardly care about writing reviews, but i feel a need to express my experience as well as single out one employee that all of you future clients want to be aware of. Dr.Perkins is great, the prices are great, place smells like a pet shop but no DUH to all those people who complained of that smell. Now that one person you should watch out for is Cathy, the older receptionist, I walk in there and she immediately gives me a sarcastic-rude remark upon entering. She has an attitude whether its over the phone or in person. She claims i was late even though i heard otherwise over the phone when i booked the appt. and marked it. I tell her that i didnt hear her wrong on the phone call and that Ive brought my last cat at the same time before when he had to get neutered. And here's the best part, she says "Then go somewhere else" Go somewhere else? THATS your professional response to a customer? Whether im right or wrong, thats not how you talk to someone. Luckily a tech comes in and says they will keep my cat overnight and spay her the next day, very friendly. Later i find out that this receptionist is the vet's relative, NO WONDER she hasnt been fired. Im sorry but this is a business and just because your relative is the doctor it doesnt mean that you get to treat HER clients with such disrespect. It can truly be a deal breaker because a receptionist is the first face you see and the person you take care of the bill with, you have no place in the business if you dont have social skills. P.s. if you look at the rest of the reviews, famous Cathy is mentioned several times, the rest of the staff is super friendly. I have the utmost respect for this doctor. She is always so friendly, and her staff is great. Everyone there truly loves animals. When I got my first pet almost 3 years ago, a friend recommended to go see her, she did not steer me wrong. I was a student 3 years ago and didn't have a full-time job, money was tight and she completely understood, she charged me less than she usually did and when it came time to get him neutered she told me how to get a discount. Now i'm fully employed, I have added a new member, a rescue cat, and I take them both for their annual check up with Dr. Perkins. It's not as shiny as other places I've seen, and the place definitely has a bit of a smell, but the service is excellent and I feel she has my pets best interest at heart. read more
