The incoming call at 7:48 PM to tell me NOT to pick my dog up at 8 PM, though I'd been on the road for over an hour already...
    Christina H.

Garo, the administrator for vet mobile, is extremely unprofessional and disorganized. He makes what could be a great organization a laughable mess. I would recommend that you spend a little bit more money elsewhere because your animal will probably not get quality care at the vet mobile. Garo called us minutes before the surgery was supposed to start and asked us which leg actually needed to be operated on - he didn't have the records from the exam and wasn't able to tell which leg had the femoral fracture despite having spent what he claims is his entire career in the field. What the heck?! In addition, Garo sent me to the wrong place, twice, and told me the wrong times, wasting over 5 hours of my time on a workday. He said my dog's surgery would be at 3 PM so I should come back to his office (which was really his house/shack) by 8 PM. Based on these instructions, I left my apartment at 6:24 to ensure I'd be there on time. At 7:48 PM, when I was 3 miles away, Garo called to say the surgery was just starting and I probably wouldn't be able to pick my puppy up until the next day.... aka, drive home another hour and a half, then back again the next day, then home again. I asked him why he hadn't notified me that the surgery would be much later so I didn't need to waste another 3 hours in the car, and he got very belligerent, told me he wasn't my secretary and that nobody does such things as courtesy calls (really now, eh?) and hung up. I paid $1700 plus examination fees for a ton of wasted time and some yelling. It turned out my puppy didn't even need pins - when I picked him up, the surgeon (who seemed great) told me the fracture was healing nicely on its own. Try this place at your own risk, follow yelpers. The vet, the surgeon, and the ladies running the van are all professional and kind, but Garo, who pretty much oversees the whole thing, ruins it.

Dr. Nachamie is a great veterinarian. My cat was a patient for approximately 10 years. Just recently I had to put little Virgil to sleep. In those last crucial days, Dr. Nachamie offered advice without false hope. He never pushed additional services, knowing they would not help my senior feline. At the very end, he was compassionate, kind and professional. It's a difficult job that vets have, when they have to put down animals. Dr. Nachamie was supportive and went as far as to send a hand-written condolence note after Virgil passed away. This vet will never make you spend money on tests or consider medical procedures unless he really thinks it's necessary - not many other vets would do the same. If I had another pet, there is no one else I would trust them with other than Dr. Nachamie.

I've been going to Dr. Nachamie for the past 5 years now for my cat Forest and he is truly one of a kind. First, he doesn't order unneccesary tests just to make money; second, he is not an alarmist and treats your pet "conservatively" but of course will suggest otherwise if needed; and most of all, he truly cares and takes his valuable time to call and follow up on how your pet is doing.

Our cat Mordechai was competely comfortable during his exam.

After previously bringing my dog to them the night before, my dog had a drastic health change where he was severely limp, weak, and unresponsive. When I came in with my dog in my arms, they immediately took him and brought him to the back to give him fluids and run tests on him. After several hours there (approximately 4-5 hours) they highly suggested that he stay for a 24 hour observation due to a possible genetic diagnosis of Addison's disease. They communicated properly and were understadning about our countless questions. They were patient and caring to myself and my family about this traumatizing time. They promised to give my dog the best care there was. They never had issues with our countless calling and asking questios throughout my dog's stay. Our dog's doctor was really kind and professional. She was direct about our dog's prognosis but was not rude or malicious. I know there are people here that may not have had a good experience with them. But, just based off this one emergency, I would say that if your pet is ever in need of help, Blue Pearl in Forest Hills would be one of my recommedations. Thank you Dr. Schreffler and the staff for saving my precious dog, Shadow! HOWEVER, although this glowing review highlights the kindness, professionalism, and hardworking staff of Blue Pearl, there was one negative expereince through it all. Myself and my family have all agreed that the nurse Emily was completely rude and unprofessional. I understand that someone who works in this enviornment is used to these types of emergencies and may sometimes become desensitized to these occurences. However, the pets and owners who come in here seeking help do not expereience this all the time. We look for compassion, understanding, and patience. The nurse Emily did not show any of that to us, which is very unfortunate. To not show any positivity and support to a fmailI hope that my experience with her was just a bad day for her and not a continued behavior.

We took my cat there because she was breathing heavy and stopped eating suddenly. We went in expecting the worst. We spoke with the doctor and came up with a game plan and the vet tech comes in with an estimate and yells out, "So who has the big bucks?" She proceeds to say, "Well, you probably need some time to think it over," and we said no, we already spoke with the vet. Then she questions why we would spend so much money treating a 12-year-old cat! We were wondering what the hell kind of place hires someone this unprofessional to deal with the public? Our cat indeed expired. We brought her in at 6pm and she passed at 10pm. The bill was high, which we expected as she was in critical condition, but an "overnight vet fee" of more than $230 for a 4-hour stay, which was not overnight, was insulting. We questioned the receptionist and she offered to have their finance team call us to discuss it. Then we were informed that they misplaced (but later found) her carrier. Their cremation fee is also $150 more than charged by my local vet. I sent a follow up complaint via their online form, but no one has called us to explain the bill and it's been a week. The worst part is we have another cat that sees a cardiologist there so we have to go back and regularly deal with them.

When I had to meet with the non-mask wearing vet, he never made a motion to wear one even though we were closeted together for awhile in his exam room (no windows). One vet tech came in and out, and he too wasn't wearing one. All the women in the office, however, kept theirs on. I'm fully vaccinated and always wear double masks indoors, but I'm amazed that this vet would put himself in such a vulnerable position. He sees more people per day than I do, including lots of people whose vaccination status is unknown. He also sets a bad example because why should patients wear masks when he doesn't? When we arrived for our next visit, the girl at the front desk was coughing rather loudly. She was masked but I had a moment of panic worrying whether she might have caught something from the maskless vet. I like the vets here and they took good care of my cat. We depend upon it and that's why I'm writing this review because I don't want to see the office shut down because of an outbreak or quarantine. This happened recently in my office because we had one or two unvaccinated jerks who love getting tested weekly rather than get the vax. One tested positive, forcing us to all get tested (thankfully I was negative). Following basic NYC standards of safety and health shouldn't be that hard.

Unfortunately, they were more interested in milking and diming me instead of helping my cat. They tried saying she had a rare disease, but i can't remember the name of it. When I researched it, I found out if she had it, then the rest of my cats would have had it just from sharing the same food dishes. The doctor said he'd have to keep her for weeks to months at their facility. I took my other cats to a different vet and it turns out none of them had that disease. Unfortunately, I had to put my cat to rest at the end since he never addressed the actual problem i brought her in for. He charged me over 10k for blood tests, an xray, and cleaning an abscess.

I trust the doctor and the techs - they seem very genuine and are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Every time I've gone in, they address all my questions and make my little man very comfortable. Takeisha at the front desk is always so sweet. Price-wise, they may indeed be slightly higher than other places, especially within a bigger corps like Petco or PetSmart. And truly, I may change vets at some point, but for now and as a brand new puppy, I wanted to bring my fur baby to a good vet. For example, they quoted me $100+ for him getting microchipped and I wasn't about to pay that much. I ended up getting him microchipped for ~$40 (plus my breeder reimbursed me that amount, too). But again, I personally feel very comfortable and very happy with the service they provide here - though they are sometimes busy (and reply late to text messages) and not very flexible with scheduling (later hours). But if you're okay with that and able to be understanding, I think it's not that huge of a deal. Thank you Dr Russell and Austin Vet Care staff for taking such good care of my Odin!
