Teddy, biggest fan of Austin Veterinary Care.
    Abbee W.

Vet care is expensive. It just is. And maybe AVC charges more than other clinics for procedures and medications; they're a small business doing their best. That said, I have nothing but good feelings about Austin Veterinary Care. My first experience was with my late dog, BillyBob. My father and I brought him to Austin Veterinary Care when he was around 15 years old and suddenly incontinent. The staff and Dr. Miller immediately fell in love with him and were very conscious of the emotions we were all feeling, BillyBob included. Their care and bedside manner made his last moments (following an exam that all but confirmed GI cancer -- for a 95lb dog, 15 years was incredible already) a lot easier to process and savor. We went back to pick up his ashes soon after putting him down and were touched to see that they were in a lovely wooden box with an engraved name plate and a slot for a photo. That slot is now filled with a photo of him and my lovely mother who he deeply missed after she passed the year before. After that experience and the adoption months later of a boroughbred from the ACC, the very same staff got to meet Teddy, my German Shepherd. There must be something magical about the hiring process here because Teddy adores every member of the AVC team. He was seen by the wonderful techs and Dr. Miller for an initial exam, shots, and a scrotal hematoma he sustained from his recent neuter at the shelter. The care he received was wonderful and I knew that we would be sticking with AVC for as long as I live in Queens. Teddy has severe environmental allergies that are very costly to treat, no matter how you look at it. Yet, during such a hard time for all small businesses, the practice manager, Lucy, and her staff have extended incredible generosity to help me improve Teddy's health. I am in no way looking to invalidate the experiences that others have had with this practice or with Dr. Miller. No person or business or perfect. But Austin Veterinary Care is perfect for Teddy and I look forward to the day I discover how to repay the people who work here for the kindness they have showed me. I wish I had a picture of Teddy with the staff he loves so dearly. For now, I will just upload a picture of the bear himself. A sweet dog that gets a second chance at life through organizations like the Animal Care Center and local businesses like Austin Veterinary Care.

Bloody paws after exam and Dr. Miller never mentioned what happened. I realized her bloody paws 3 minutes after leaving Austin Vet. Care.

Do NOT bring your pet to this Vet/Dr.Miller. i took my cat in to see if she has a Urinary tract infection and she came out with bloody paws. Dr. Miller nor the staff mentioned what happened. I realized her injuries after leaving with my cat back home because I refused to pay $1,225 for all the exams he asked for. Example he was asking for $310 for a culture and sensitive test all together where elsewhere they charge between $110 - $115 for both of them together. I found out later that North Animal hospital is much cheaper $110 and also lefferts animal hospital. This Veterinary clinic is doing some serious price gauging plus they mishandled my cat. Yes my cat is not the easiest but my cat has gone in the past to other vets and they handle her with care and she never came out injured like that. So now I have to take her to see another Vet. Update: Spoke with "Dr.Miller" and him and his staff forcefully forced my cat out of the cage instead of opening the cage wide open they brutally force her out through the small opening and my cat was grabbing onto the cage in fear and she injured her front and back nails and bleed. They were so unprofessional. They need to get trained cause it seem like they dont know how to treat an animal that is stressed. This shows how much they care more about the money then the animal.

Austin Vet provided my cat with the upmost excellent care.  My 6 month playful cat previously had surgery. While recovering at home, he was playing too hard and had injured himself resulting his stitches to open.  Austin Vet provided my cat with a 12 day care. They had great follow-up and Dr. Miller called everyday with an update. Dr. Miller was personable and professional. I'm grateful for their help. The team at Austin Vet was awesome.  Thank you to Lucy and Jocelyn.

After previously bringing my dog to them the night before, my dog had a drastic health change where he was severely limp, weak, and unresponsive. When I came in with my dog in my arms, they immediately took him and brought him to the back to give him fluids and run tests on him. After several hours there (approximately 4-5 hours) they highly suggested that he stay for a 24 hour observation due to a possible genetic diagnosis of Addison's disease. They communicated properly and were understadning about our countless questions. They were patient and caring to myself and my family about this traumatizing time. They promised to give my dog the best care there was. They never had issues with our countless calling and asking questios throughout my dog's stay. Our dog's doctor was really kind and professional. She was direct about our dog's prognosis but was not rude or malicious. I know there are people here that may not have had a good experience with them. But, just based off this one emergency, I would say that if your pet is ever in need of help, Blue Pearl in Forest Hills would be one of my recommedations. Thank you Dr. Schreffler and the staff for saving my precious dog, Shadow! HOWEVER, although this glowing review highlights the kindness, professionalism, and hardworking staff of Blue Pearl, there was one negative expereince through it all. Myself and my family have all agreed that the nurse Emily was completely rude and unprofessional. I understand that someone who works in this enviornment is used to these types of emergencies and may sometimes become desensitized to these occurences. However, the pets and owners who come in here seeking help do not expereience this all the time. We look for compassion, understanding, and patience. The nurse Emily did not show any of that to us, which is very unfortunate. To not show any positivity and support to a fmailI hope that my experience with her was just a bad day for her and not a continued behavior.

We took my cat there because she was breathing heavy and stopped eating suddenly. We went in expecting the worst. We spoke with the doctor and came up with a game plan and the vet tech comes in with an estimate and yells out, "So who has the big bucks?" She proceeds to say, "Well, you probably need some time to think it over," and we said no, we already spoke with the vet. Then she questions why we would spend so much money treating a 12-year-old cat! We were wondering what the hell kind of place hires someone this unprofessional to deal with the public? Our cat indeed expired. We brought her in at 6pm and she passed at 10pm. The bill was high, which we expected as she was in critical condition, but an "overnight vet fee" of more than $230 for a 4-hour stay, which was not overnight, was insulting. We questioned the receptionist and she offered to have their finance team call us to discuss it. Then we were informed that they misplaced (but later found) her carrier. Their cremation fee is also $150 more than charged by my local vet. I sent a follow up complaint via their online form, but no one has called us to explain the bill and it's been a week. The worst part is we have another cat that sees a cardiologist there so we have to go back and regularly deal with them.

I came in with a heavy feeling of helplessness and even broke down in tears in the waiting area because my family and I couldn't figure out why he stopped eating completely. Dr. Nader took a look at the previous bloodwork that was done and then proceeded to do a full examination of my baby. He promptly listed all the procedures and to my pleasant surprise assured me that everything can get done the same day. After some time of evaluating the costs and taking an approval from care credit (the costs for everything ended up being $5114 for everything including meds and tests), we admitted him for surgery the same afternoon. Afterwards, I continuously received phone call updates from either Dr. Nader or Dr.Sharkaway until the procedures were done. The wonderful team stayed well after hours to ensure that there were no loose ends with their work, including additional testing and extensive care for the excessive bleeding that my baby was experiencing post op. When I came to pick him up, Dr.Sharkaway listed all the details of the procedure, complications that they ran into, additional tests that they're waiting for the results on and aftercare instructions along with the post op medications. I was pleasantly surprised that they were able to confidently clean and remove everything that was didn't belong on my baby's body with minimal side effects. I was given detailed instructions on how to take care of the bleeding at home and luckily it stopped overnight. The next day, the hospital continued to check in with me on my baby's health and the doctors continued to stay in contact with me to ensure that he was doing well. I came in a wreck and left with tears of joy in my eyes. They've earned my loyalty. May they be forever blessed and highly favored.
