Good food ! I hade the blueberry griddle cakes. More then I could eat. The skillet potatoes were cooked perfectly. I wood be giving them five stars had the waitress not forgotten multiple requests for water, napkin and hot sauce. She was nice just not attentive. read more

Whitebark is a pretty good restaurant. The waiters are very kindhearted and treated us well, but the service is quite slow because all the waiters were busy chatting with their friends. Our Chicken Noodle Soup was too oily and salty, and our prosciutto dish was as well. Otherwise, the 'Mary's Chicken' was quite delicious, though it could at least have a pinch of salt, not a bunch. I would recommend going to this restaurant if you're looking for a very salty meal. The lighting was very pleasant, and the loudness of other people isn't too bad. I would say that you should at least get a reservation - Or the line will be super long. Overall, I would say that Whitebark is a very good restaurant. read more

I've come here a lot. A lot. I know all the good restaurants in Mammoth. I was lazy one night and ate here. Excellent service and meal. Yes, pricey but I always share. The salad was perfectly dressed. If you're staying here and don't want to go out, give it a try. Breakfast was too. read more

Food was good but definitely not worth the price. You could easily go somewhere else for the same or similar quality. However the biggest problem is the wait time. I've seen some family's walk out after being seated because of the lack of service, even though it was mostly empty. Bad service, and O.K food that was overpriced. read more

The food was fine but not good enough to excuse the negligence of the waiting staff. It took 10 minutes for any employee to come and handle the line forming at the front with at least 15 people. Other servers kept looking and no one thought to come explain there would be a wait, and just left us hanging. They said they'd come with utensils and never did, and two drinks were forgotten. The "buffet" only allows you to go once. Not coming here again, sorry! read more

Our experience at this restaurant was above and beyond only because of our server Ronnell. We were seated next to an obnoxious teenager group on our special night and asked to move, Ronnell went above and beyond to make sure we were moved to a table where we could enjoy our experience. We asked for a manager and he was so scared to speak to us he was literally shaking and did nothing to try and make our experience pleasurable. Ronnell not only bought us dessert to make up for it but he gave us above and beyond service. I am a professional chef and kitchen manager so I understand what should be done to make sure the patron has a great experience in restaurant. The manager never checked on us or said a word to us. The hostess yelled at us and was very unprofessional. We were going to walk out but stayed because of Ronnell and his phenomenal customer service. Honestly Ronnell should be the manager if it wasn't for him I would of walked out. read more

The low marks don't make sense. Since we got ourselves a cabin in Mammoth a few years ago, I'm up here about 12x a year and have eaten at every local place many times...and I'll have to say that the Westin's "Unwind" happy hour is the best in town. Mammoth Brewing Co's happy hour comes in a strong second, but the good strong drinks and best sliders anywhere really separate this place. Don't know about the complaints with "well drinks": their well drinks are NOT the cheapo stuff (e.g., "Monache Margarita" uses top-shelf tequila, "Alpen Glow" includes a Bacardi 151 topper). Also, where else can you get Kobe skirt steak for $1 an ounce (order how ever many ounces you want)? Have also eaten at the resto and their appetizers are a good deal (4 different categories, each with 3 choices, including a sampler plate option with all choices within a category). Their short ribs tagine was amazing (e.g., better than Campanile's). NOTE: their dual happy hour is actually 4:30-6:30pm and 10-11pm. read more

Ribeye was fantastic. Cooked perfectly with a nice crust. Seasoned well with a pesto and balsamic sauce, which was incredibly unique and a pleasant surprise. Poke salad was refreshing and fresh duck confit was succulent. Everything comes in quite sizeable portions. One reason for 3 stars was the dessert (cookies and ice cream) was lackluster AND our server didn't tell us that the desserts were HUGE, and let us order way more than we needed. One order was enough more than enough for all 6 of us, but we ordered two and she said nothing of it. I understand she was probably trying to run the bill up, but integrity will increase your tip far more than negligence. Otherwise she was great though. In the end, for mammoth it's great tasting, presentation, and decor. read more

I always get the Salmon, I can't stay away from it every time we go here, that's what I order. Not only is the fish cooked wonderfully crisp on the outside and deliciously moist and flaky throughout, but the veggies that come with it are so rich and yummy! My boyfriend is a bit more adventurous, he had the Rib Eye (so good! the sauce is amazing and always cooked to order perfectly) and the Venison (his personal favorite from Whitebark) We also typically get the "hot pot" which is a perfect appetizer if you're into seafood. Whitebark has gone through some changes in terms of management and chef, but they're getting back to the basics and it is paying off! My favorite thing about Whitebark sushi is the seaweed! Being a city girl who was transplanted to this area, I crave good sushi. Not only is the fish fresh and high quality, but the seaweed isn't chewy, you can bite right through it. We love it here, service is fantastic (if you dont like your drink, they'll make you a different one on the house) they check on you without bothering you, and keep your water full. Always a great spot for special occasions or just quality dining experience! read more

We heard the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies are amazing, had to give it a shot and so glad we did! We had breakfast here (three times) and dinner here. LOVE the breakfast! Blueberry smoothie is very good and the egg white omelette. Also, they have many other health conscience items. This is also my favorite place we had dinner in Mammoth. The scallops were cooked perfectly, so good. It is very easy to over cook scallops, but they did not. I really enjoyed this dish! read more

Ridiculous.Third attempt at this restaurant. Hotel is great, restaurant is pathetic. Way overpriced and is just not good food. This latest visit was for happy hour. Ordered calamari and wings (ok) and Mac and cheese (came out cold) for the boy. We ordered a beer, champagne and virgin piña colada. The food came and was consumed BEFORE the drinks were served..wth? Bartenders are entertaining to watch-blind leading the blind. Oh and then....after they took the plates...no piña colada avail. LOL read more

What a lucky find during the off-season in Mammoth Lakes. I've stayed at the Westin before, but never bothered to try the restaurant. I've suffered through numerous slightly-below average to very poor meals in Mammoth Lakes since many places only pretend to have a gluten-free menu. Usually they smile and say something like, "Oh sure, we have salads." And you wait. Then they go on to say that "Most of the dressing have gluten, so a salad with a vinaigrette." Blah. Not so at Whitebark. The menu here is actually done in reverse. Everything is gluten-free unless indicated. That makes life a pleasure for people like me and there are items all the way from appetizers to desserts. We found the service to be very friendly and personable. Again, it was the off-season so the place relatively empty when we went. The chef was very responsive to our requests and substitutions and the steaks were cooked perfectly. My only drawback was the wine list. On the plus side, they did have a listing of wines for $20 that were not being continued. I thought it was a clever way to reduce stock in wines that hadn't been as popular while offering guests that desired some really low prices on wine. That list didn't interest me and from the main wine list I found the cabernet and cabernet-blends to be a little limited. We even found one we wanted and it turned out that they had the 2011 instead of the 2010 that was listed on the wine list. They did, however, offer us another label that was slightly more expensive (they had the 2010 of that) at the same price. Good move, although I would have paid the regular price for that one. I just prefer that either the wine list be updated when the vintage changes or that servers know before bringing the bottle out to you. Overall, good spot, I'd go back. read more

I wouldn't recommend this for lunch unless u want a turkey or chicken sandwich, burger, or pasta because that's all they have. And don't try to substitute a side salad for fries if you order the burger because that's not an option. Plus $9.00 for a soup that was only a few bites was ridiculous. Over priced, very limited selection, inflexible substitutions make this a bad choice in town considering other options that are walking distance. read more

Whitebark - Steakhouses Near Me - Mammoth Lakes, California

Best steakhouse in Mammoth Lakes. Plus family friendly service. It's a dining out win win for all three meals of the day. Worth getting here for the morning bacon and mocha lattes. Their turkey club sandwich before heading out for the afternoon is more than more can eat and it's a 10 out of 10! Dinner here is a must splurge. We've tried all the steakhouses over the last 19 years. We keep coming back here! Again, it's a 10! read more

I used to love this place. In fact when it first opened it was my husband and my favorite restaurant in town. Great menu and service. While the service has remained very good. They have slowly destroyed the menu. I assume they are trying to save money. I miss the great original menu with awesome happy hour tacos and the awesome mushroom veg dish you used to have. Maybe you should consider reviving the menu. Oh and no more sushi which was the last redeeming part of this place has now been removed TOO. Sheesh. Even was offered truffle fries and the poor server had to relay that they don't have truffle oil anymore. Next up the great servers will probably leave since they can see this slowly sinking ship and seem deflated. Don't price cut your way out of business, maybe the hungry unsuspecting visitors won't notice but you're going to loose your local base. read more

There are 4 other people in the restaurant right now, 3/15 at 3pm, and it's taken over 25 minutes to get out drinks. We will finish our drinks and leave without eating. It's not the waitresses fault, they need to staff more people. This is unacceptable. read more

I had always wanted to try this restaurant everytime I visited Mammoth over the last couple of years. We were staying at the hotel so had the opportunity to try breakfast for a few days, as well as some of their lunch items. Unfortunately, my husband and I were sorely disappointed. I had an avocado toast for breakfast one morning and it was so bland and average. We are from LA so I'm not sure if our expectations were a bit high, but it just was not anything special, especially for a pricey restaurant in one of the only luxury hotels in Mammoth. I also had an omelet the next day, which was again, average, as well. The coffee was cold both mornings, and had a burnt taste to it. Even worse, we could overhear the servers loudly arguing amongst each other right in front of us. They were quite loud and I was embarrassed for them, that grown adults were arguing in front of customers. We also had a voucher for a free appetizer so I ordered the shrimp and grits, which sounded amazing on the menu. However, it was just nothing special or memorable. Most significantly, I noticed there was absolutely NOTHING organic on their menu. No organic anything--milk, yogurt, eggs, fruits, greens-NOTHING! I don't think I would want to eat there again, unless they do a major overhaul of their menu and overall food. read more

Holy cow! This was by far our favorite place during our stay in Mammoth! We were there for an entire week & tried a different restaurant each day for each & every meal & Whitebark blew them all away! Excellent drink menu, wonderful starters/ appetizers. Our main dishes were phenomenal & the highlight of our meal was the cauliflower 2 ways side dish. I seriously could have ate myself sick with this dish. For dessert, we had a chocolate mouse cake with strawberry foam & purée. We were so stuffed from dinner that they boxed it for us to go. It looked like a piece of art when I opened the box & tasted like heaven! Service was impeccable & the ambience was cozy & inviting. Thank you Whitebark for the amazing experience. read more

Their food were expensive, but worth it! I ordered a medium rare filet Mignon; it was very juicy and I like it! My aunt ordered lamb chop, and was excellent! The ambience of this restaurant is absolutely lovely and I waitress, named Hayley I believe, was wonderful! However, the food was beyond disappointing. I ordered the New York strip with the mushroo sauce and mashed potatoes with sautéed Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were literally dripping with grease and unpalatable. The mashed potatoes were not mixed very well and therefore not creamy or buttery. And the mushroom sauce on top of the steak was cool by the time it came to the table and that made it very gelatinous. The flavor of the sauce was incredibly overpowering and, quite frankly, not very tasty. I came in on a Sunday night and they were very few people in the restaurant. So perhaps the sauce I've been simmering for a while and it hurt the flavor of it? Either way, it was a very disappointing meal for as much as it cost. Thankfully, the waitress recommended a lovely Elizabeth Rose Pinot that was quite delicious and so the night wasn't a total waste of money. I've heard the restaurant is undergoing a change of management potentially and I feel like this experience could be solved with some better oversight and quality control. Thankfully, the waitstaff was delightful and the wine recommendation as well as the wine list was quite pleasant. I just wish the food had lived up to the price. read more

After a long day of of skiing my husband and I went to Whitebark at The Westin Hotel in Mammoth for a much needed meal. What we left with was an empty stomach and dissapointment. We ordered food and drinks at the bar area and after more than an hour and seeing everyone else get their food, we got NOTHING but excuses that our order will be up soon. Then after the hour the waitress came back and said I am sorry there was a mix up in the kitchen they are making you food right now. So we waited and waited and still nothing so we left. Not to return again. We are up in Mammoth about 3 weekends a month and usually refer people to this place but not anymore. Really great Happy Hour with quality food. The fried brussel sprouts is unbelievable and the shashito peppers with goat cheese is tasty. Too bad however they changed their menu this year they replaced the steak with a burger. A great burger nonetheless with an awesome homemade pickle. Chef if you're listening to me bring back the steak! Highly recommended place regardless and a routine dining experience at Mammoth. Latest: Came back again Thursday and tried the cheese plate with the house Cabernet. Highly recommend. Jordan gave us superb world class service and we had another excellent dinner. read more

We decided to try Whitebark since we were staying in the hotel and have stayed here many times and have not tried it. Thought it would make things easier since the new Covid mandate of outside dining only and we could eat in our room. Well Covid has another casualty. Whitebark. We had to go to the lobby to check out the menu. I get it menus have changed with all that is going on. It is a limited menu and after seeing the original menu it is somewhat lacklustre. Very basic. One salad choice. A couple appetizers. Their original menu had some lovely offerings and they have gone to something simple from chicken wings (which we tried) to a few other choices. Sweet sauce with little flavor and a side of blue cheese dip. That one salad choice was a chopped salad consisting of romaine (brown), tomatoes, couple carrot strips and a very bland dressing. No flavor at all. It is a very strange menu with basic items and then it goes to a bone marrow choice. I would have loved to try the truffle risotto from the original menu. Dessert choices -only 2- chocolate cake (again so basic) and a chocolate cookie crusted vanilla cream salted caramel mixture. Yes that's what we ordered. It was nice. Overall not excited about the Covid menu. Now the best part was the young man who took the order. Super friendly. Order was ready in 10 minutes. Hoping that once this quarantine is over that Whitebark brings back a better menu and the food quality improves. It was about a $50 meal with tip. read more

Ate here on a recent visit to mammoth and it was absolutely wonderful! (We were guests of the westin and just wanted something convenient, this place delivered!) The staff was very friendly, I wish I could remember our servers name (dinner-moved there in november, awesome mustache! ), he was wonderful! The chef offered us some free sushi, the server had a great knowledge of the menu and cocktails, and they even surprised us with a complimenty dessert for my birthday! The food was excellent too, would definitely recommend. We also ate here for breakfast the next day, portions were perfect! The smoothies also hit the nail on the head, keep it up! read more

A pleasant surprise since we thought we were compromising by staying in and eating at the hotel. However the roast chicken with baby vegetables was amazing, the heirloom tomato salad beautiful and tasty, and the service friendly and attentive. Went for dinner last night at Whitebark. A bit leery based on the other reviews. We had previously had breakfast when we stayed at Westin and it was good. Last night dinner was pretty great. I had the beef tournedos which were tender and delicious, my husband had the short rib which he said was good but preferred the flavor of my dish. Our friend had manhattan chowder and scallops as his main and said it was tasty. Our 6 year old had chicken strips (they do have a kids menu so not sure the complaints about not having one). Yes you have to order fries as a side but no big deal. She ate her entire meal which is saying a lot. We had dessert as well - sorbet (huge portion enough for us all four to share) and Creme brûlée which was also tasty (smaller serving). Bill was $$$ but you expect that when dining inside a resort. Overall I would recommend. We didn't have any long waits at all which was good when you are hungry. Just be aware of the price point of $30+ per adult meal. read more

We decide to do the Thanksgiving dinner and pay 75 per adult and 40 for our child. Disappointed!! Food was good but definitely not worth 75 dollars for one person.. I don't expect much from hotel restaurants, but I found Whitebark to be decent in their happy hour. I've only been to Whitebark during happy hour when I'm feeling not too hungry but still need to eat for dinner. The best items to order off the happy hour menu are the shoestring fries and the buffalo chicken wings. If you do the math, they are also the dishes with the best discounts. Beers on tap are half off, so drink up! It's pricey but if you're staying at the Westin and opt to not have your sheets changed, you receive a $5 voucher for each night you decline the service. You can apply the vouchers to your meal and make it reasonably priced. Overall, decent food for a decent price with vouchers. I was a little concerned given the prior reviews but the restaurant delivered! We had lovely cocktails -- hot toddy and bushfire fairy tale. The salad was a refreshing winter root vegetable with arugula. The lamb shank that followed was absolutely delicious and tender. Portions were generous. Service was prompt and attentive. Our server Trevor did mention that the menu had recently been changed and maybe that made all the difference! Decor was trying to be trendy but not quite getting there. read more

We stopped in for breakfast on our way home from Mammoth Lakes. We were sadly disappointed due to the quality that usually comes with a Westin Resort and for the prices we paid. My pancakes were very dry and lacked much flavor. My husbands oatmeal was also very bland. Our eggs were cooked well at least. But at $4/egg I sure hope they know how to cook eggs. It was disappointing to spend $65 on a breakfast to be let down. Our waiter was nice and offered us coffee right away which we accepted. But after he poured our coffees we looked at the menu and saw cappuccinos which we rather would have had. Maybe wait to offer coffee until the customer can look at the menu. Hopefully by next time they will have better breakfast cooks! The restaurant has nice vibes at least and was quiet when we went. read more
