Wow no customer service... so I ordered the grill salmon with double broccoli. The salmon was ok no basic seasoning jut poached. 1/2 the broccoli was brown... the server should have noticed this and sent it back. No one takes the time to do the basics. Slow and bad service. When my meal actually made it out of the kitchen, I watched it being placed on a table next to us. The other diner said it wasn't their's so then it was brought to me ..... Half the table was served and the other half had to wait 10 minutes for their simple sandwiches to come. They were supposed to get Monte Cristos, but basically got grilled cheese without the turkey and ham???? I travel for work about 3 times per year. This was the best airport dining experience I've had. I sat at the bar. Chavon was a great server - remembered the special requests for my order, was very attentive, and kept me smiling and laughing the whole time I was there. I ordered the Bahn Mi sandwich. The baguette was crusty, pulled pork was tasty and not overly sweet, and pickled vegetables were nice and briny. The fries were crispy and nicely seasoned. Don't understand the low rating. This place is rotten in all of the specifics. Staff is inattentive, the service is slow and the food is mediocre at best. Want wheat bread? You get white. In a hurry? It takes 10 minutes for someone to come around to ask what you want then 20 minutes more for the food to come. But, 3 different servers will ask what you want before one of them actually bothers to serve you. Want decaf? You get one cold cup served in a single serving teapot. Want jam on your toast? You can have any kind you want so long as it's grape jelly. Portions are large, but smothered in grease. Save yourself the aggravation and go to the Mexican joint around the corner. read more

Worst service of any airport restaurant anywhere. If you want to bring all your luggage into the restaurant? Ok. Block all the aisles. When I rolled up in a slim line, narrow stroller that's smaller than the rollerbags of the few people in there AND I offered to sit in the back so I'm not in the way? Nope. I walked up to the hostess station and all 3 of them were deep in a meaningless conversation with some waitresses. I finally got their attention but the hostesses acted as if I was disturbing them when I asked about the seating. I was told I couldn't bring my stroller inside. I asked to talk to the manager since the restaurant was empty. One hostess rolled her eyes and practically stomped off to get the manager. Manager Pietro came over, looked inside the restaurant and then claims it's an airport rule that they can't allow strollers in the restaurants but cannot cite it or show it to me. * Note that I'm currently in another airport restaurant with the stroller inside. * If the hostesses and the manager is this horrible, I'm glad I didn't sit down. Judging from all the other horrible reviews, it seems to be a blessing in disguise. Lunchtime and the place has a barely a handful of people in there. I'm currently at Reilly's Daughter Irish Pub and the staff service here is leaps and bounds better than White Sox Grill. I wandered around Midway airport looking for my favorite airport spot, Harry Caray's. I walked past this place twice before finally asking if it had been replaced. I don't know who made this decision, but it was an awful one. The food was terrible. The character is gone. The service is fine, though when I asked if this was where Harry Caray's used to be, they immediately apologized. Obviously I'm not alone in my disappointment. (I normally don't even like hash browns) House merlot was okay, had three glasses anyways cause I'm an anxious flyer. Walking through the airport we saw this and thought it would be a good place to try but we were wrong. We ordered a BLT and a hamburger and were very disappointed. My burger tasted like they went into the Burger King freezer and took out a patty and threw it in the microwave and warmed it up. The BLT was okay. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst. Drinks took 25 mins and after 45 food did not arrive we had to cancel food order and run for our flight. Waitress was nice, tho. We felt like it was a burden for her to be taking our order. My wife got a drink from the bar which was promptly delivered 15 minutes later with most of the ice already melted. Nearly three months after the Midway food and beverage overhaul I'm still struggling to find some decent food and service in the whole airport. Somehow, they've managed to take an airport that had solid restaurant options and create an expensive wasteland of burgers, pizza/flatbread, chips and fries. Yes there are salads - the same prepackaged salads spread from one end of the concourses to the other. Go Go White Sox - the best restaurant SPACE in the entire airport - the only place that really can really accommodate sit-down service and they populated it with paper napkins and plastic-ware and just barely more than a red and white wine list. I've had the Tuscan flatbread (bland even with hot sauce dumped on it) and an Asian style pork sandwich (more bland). In my third attempt I went for a salad with shrimp which was OK - at least it was healthy but walk the concourses and you'll see the same salad and flatbreads and more under different pithy Chicago names. In other words, pre-made theme park food. Would have liked to have added a side salad to the non-salad options -- nope all we have are full-sized salads that cost as much as the entree. OK, would have like to had a vegetable like broccoli instead of fries/chips - nada. Ok would have liked to have dessert. All we have is cheesecake -- heavy, and what if you don't like that. Did anyone have the fish tacos with the nice corn and bean side at Harry Caray's? Where's the turkey burger topped with guacamole with steamed broccoli as alternative to fries? Where's the four dressing options for burgers (and you could go with turkey for your protein)? I'm not a beer guy, but I sit at the Harry Carrey's bar and people swooned over the diverse choices. In short, the menu at White Sox is pitiful -- the baseball White Sox will be embarrassed when they stop by. By comparison I would love to have Chili's or Fridays or CPK - what a disappointment. I'm in Information Technology, I'm all about change. So they needed a new concession contract .... And I get it, more money is better than less money! But it needed to be about more than the deal. I can't help but think they've walked away from money and the character of Chicago with the overhaul. And I get it, I'm not your typical one-and-done customer. But I'm also a valuable customer. I fly through MDW about 43 weeks a year and I used to cherish having time to sit at the bar at Harry Caray's with a glass of wine where they had at least four healthy menu items that I liked equally well and have a real dinner before my flight. I made it a habit to come two hours early for my Thursday flight (I actually looked forward to going to the airport - how does that even happen?) so I could sit down and enjoy 40 minutes of relatively quiet time to read my book or newspaper on my iPad. My typical tab was $48. I'm not looking for "Fine Dining" experience or bill -- just good food at a fair price. So Midway went from Harry Carey's - Chicago institution with cloth napkins and real cutlery and a varied menu of food and drink; they converted to Go Go White Sox, a glorified sandwich shop and a menu that is just more bland airport food. Food you can get at any third-tier airport. Not even as good as St. Louis and Dallas where you at least have a variety of branded foods like Chili's, CPK, and Cantina Laredo. This is a step back to generic convention center/stadium food -- all the same stuff under different signs spread across the venue. Really? But the OLD Midway wasn't any of that. It was a CHICAGO airport with Harry Caray's and Potbelly's and Manny's and it represented the city ... now it's just another generic airport with another third class food and beverage airport contract. And if I can give a nod to the non-business traveler who doesn't have $25 to spend on a meal -- why would you dump McDonalds and not at least replace it with a similar option. It was great fit for real people who bought that $79 Southwest fare to wherever. Every entree option I've noticed in the new restaurant offering (even sandwiches) - with the exception of some tiny pizzas, start at $13. Every breakfast sandwich offered starts at $7 - where's the healthy $3 egg McMuffin? Oh for McDonalds where a student or a family could eat for a reasonable price. I get it. Airport authorities signed a 5, 7, 10 year deal and they're probably even making more money. Maybe it'll get better, but I've seen the lines hanging out of place after place.Where is the concern for customers/passengers, about the image of Chicago at a key gateway. They should at least demand that their new vendor do something more than copy what they've done in Omaha. They should exceed the old Midway! If you're not going to do distinctive Chicago restaurants at least do chains that understand the healthy variety and predictability needed by today's traveler. Very disappointed in the service. We had felicita as our bartender on Saturday February 29. We had a couple drinks and ordered a burger to go well done. We waited for 47 minutes for our food. Many times us and other customers at the bar were sitting and waiting for her to show up. There seemed to be more people worried about if the beer was stocked and I don't know what else they were doing but they weren't anywhere to be found most of the time. We will never stop at this place while in Midway we will continue down the concourse to a different restaurant from now on. read more

They were of potato chips, which came with one of the menu items.They were out of ranch dressing. I couldn't ask for a flatbread with no tomatoes because they arrive pre-made. I was told to pick them off. If I would have know this before I sat down, I would have grabbed a quick bite, but I had time to kill and I figured I'd sit and relax. Fried pickles were overly cooked and overly salty. I wouldn't recommend if you're a fried pickles lover. I did order the flat bread and I picked off the tomatoes. I'd rather be served Ellio's Pizza than be served that. I had to ask for a fork, knife, and napkins. Service was okay, not very attentive if you're sitting alone. Sox were playing, but the Sox Restaurant couldn't put it on, which is a little ironic. read more

So take this rating with a grain of salt - is this the best lunch in Chicago? Absolutely not. But it is a VERY good option of you are at Midway and want a decent glass of wine and a salad or sandwich in a sit-down environment. Yes, it takes a bit longer than a food court,so if you are in a rush, rush straight past this joint. But if you have time to spare, go! The location is perfect - just past security. I love sitting at the counter facing the terminal - so much terrific people watching! On a recent visit, I had the Union Kale Salad with poached shrimp, pickled onions, green apple slivers and shaved fennel. It was a very upscale dish for airport food. The dressing included golden raisins, which made it a tad on the sweet side. But who can complain when you have a fresh salad - not in a box - at Midway! Service is a tad scatterbrained but I can't imagine how busy they must be, so I won't don't them too much for that. Overall, I in it to be a very nice option in a sea of unhealthy, transactional fast food. read more
