I came here the other day because I was super hungry. I ended up very disappointed in the service that was provided here. The staff: The cashier was busy playing on the cell phone instead of taking my order. The cashier then took my order and told me the amount that I need to pay and just walked away from the register to go back on the cell phone. The cashier came back 15-25 minutes later to take my cash. I told the cashier I wanted two drinks, but the cashier only charged me for one because that person was busy playing with their cell phone. I do not understand where the supervisor or manager was at this location. A line started to form here, and this cashier took long to help these customers as well. A few customers even left and stated that this was ridiculous. Pricing: The prices here are like any fast-food restaurant that comes up to $8 and up for a meal. The restaurant was clean but there were no garbage debris anywhere visible to the customers. No. 1: The 4 cheeseburgers, french fries, chicken rings, and a medium coke was what I had ordered. After consuming this food, it gave me a stomachache and I wasn't feeling good for the rest of the night. I do not believe that they cooked the food all the way as they were operating at a snail's pace. So far I haven't had any problems with getting the wrong order and the food being messed up but the ambiance is okay and the customer service definitely needs to be worked on because you can hardly hear when talking to the worker at the drive thru machine and it needs to be fixed for sure plus it really needs to be much louder read more

Decent location, lines tend to be long on the weekends. They are open 24 hours. Once you actually get the food, it taste pretty good.

One thing I do want to call out: there's a vintage, all-white 1930s photo used as décor/branding imagery. THIS IS THE ONLY PICTURE OF PEOPLE IN THE STORE. It's a striking picture, but it doesn't reflect who lives, works, and eats here today. Metuchen and the neighboring Edison area are among New Jersey's most diverse communities--significant Asian, Black, Latino, and multiracial populations call this area home. If you want to celebrate local history, please also celebrate the people who actually make up this neighborhood now. And since the photo evokes the chain's early years, it's worth adding context. In the 1930s and well beyond, Black diners across the U.S. often faced exclusion and unequal treatment in restaurants. Historians have documented incidents involving White Castle itself--for example, a 1938 case in Whiting, Indiana, where four Black patrons were refused service. Civil-rights organizers also pressured White Castle on discriminatory practices, such as CORE's protests in the Bronx in 1963. Acknowledging this history alongside the nostalgic imagery would make the brand storytelling more honest and inclusive. Bottom line: Food and service here are solid for what White Castle is. But I'd love to see the Metuchen location (and the company) pair those throwback photos with a short note or display that recognizes both the diversity of today's customers and the full scope of the past--good and bad. You have to try a White Castle Valentine at least once in your life!! Reservations only on this day after 4pm and make sure you book early. They dress up the restaurant, have a waiter take your order and bring you everything. A special menu that has shareable combos. They put effort to make it special. The food was good and the service was great. The wait time was decent overall a good experience.

I don't expect much from white caste, however this is one of the weaker locations. They stay packed, no matter if you go inside or drive thru, and that's usually a good sign. It SHOULD also indicate that the food should typically be fresh due to the high turn over. Unfortunately that's not the case. The burgers are consistently soggy and the fries never seem hot, and are constantly lacking salt. I know White Castle isn't the healthiest option and that's fine because I know what I signed up for when I pulled into the lot; but at least have the fries on point to compliment the rest of the bad decisions I ordered in the bag. Customer service seems to be absent, not a complaint because I'm expecting it no matter who is at the window, they all seem bothered and annoyed, so at least I can say they're consistent in that regard. Nonetheless i eat White Castle probably twice a year, so I'm sure I'll be back to this location at some juncture in 2023, it's only American that I do. Happy feasting folks! read more

I am visiting from NC. I haven't had a White Castle burger in years. As I walked in to stand in line there were 6 people all waiting on orders. I stood in line waiting to place an order. No one and I mean no one acknowledged me. I stood there for 6 minutes. When someone finally did walk up to the registered he went to take his break instead of a simple " it'll be a minute". The staff that was there they all looked miserable barely shuffling around and avoided eye contact with the patrons that were waiting. It was a terrible experience and If I wanted to eat at a White Castle it would have to be this one since it's the closest to my location I'm staying at. I will not be returning and am almost as disappointed as the workers who clearly did not want to be there. I hope they find joy elsewhere in life. read more

You guys!!! I did something I haven't done in about 25 years! Something many of you probably take for granted! I ordered a burger and fries through a drive-thru!!! This veg-head was so stoked!! White Castle is now offering a plant-based burger dubbed the "Impossible Burger"...and it's fantastic! It's super insanely juicy and very flavorful!! The texture is great too. It's probably one of the best veggie burgers I've had! Pair it with those tiny diced onions and pickles they so famously serve on their adorable little sliders, and I'm in heaven! It's offered with smoked cheddar cheese, but they have no issue making them without. Just bring a little patience because they don't have these pre-heated. They are grilled to order. Lucky us! They'll always be super fresh! I called before headed over just to be sure they would have it and the kind gentleman asked how many I would need. "Twenty?" he said! Ummm no, but I guess some veg-heads out there are stocking up. I don't blame them. It's so good! I urge carnivores to try them! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by these bad boys! The one on Route 1 North is just awful. Service is very slow and that's for both the driver up and going into the restaurant. The place could use a good cleaning but the food is a constant for years and years and every once in awhile , we go in to get our cravens and we are good. read more

This is an updated review. I have been to this location a few times late at night through the drive-thru. It is hit or miss depending on who is making the burgers. I have had good experiences with the staff and the 1921 sliders; they were awesome at this location. But I have also has burnt 1921 sliders, which are terrible. And they forget the grilled onions. It makes a difference. Please make the whole burger like you are supposed to. When they have the right people making the1921 sliders, they are so good that I want more of them. But when they have a bad cook and leave off topping, I never want to come back. Please try to keep consistent service at night. And have some quality control. read more

I pulled up to the drive thru, there were two cars in front of me. The dining room was empty so they weren't busy at all. I ended up waiting a total of 25 minutes to receive my order and that's after one of the cars left, before getting their order, out of frustration from waiting so long. I went there the other day, the person that took my order just straight sneezed into her mask twice. Didn't even bother to cover her mouth change her mask or anything. I went to the White Castle on LaFayette Rd in Metuchen NJ and was not very satisfied in fact I was disappointed with how the customer service was and how the restaurant look. The crew member who took my order was nasty and had an attitude . Also the store did not look very clean at all , the floor looks like it hasn't been swept or mopped in months and my food was not hot at all it was room temperature. This is the worst fast food restaurant I have ever been to!! I went 3 separate times , all late night to pick up for Uber Eats and had to walk out! There are at least 8 people working there and it wasn't crowded but the staff is the worst.. they are walking around like zombies!! They are very unfriendly and stare at you and don't even ask if they can help you!! I had to keep asking if the Uber Eats order was almost ready as they walking around in slow motion like zombies!! 3 separate late night times the wait was so long I had to walk out and cancel the order!!
