Worst cust service, by far. Ordered sausage 5 days in adv. Called day of , asked if ready, was told to come in. Drove 1hr to get there to find out they didnt even make the sausage. Had to wait 30 minutes behind walk ins before they found the time for me. They were also completely incapable of slicing deli meat at a quarter inch. After 3 attempts I had to accept a medium thick slice at best. Inexcusable. No attempt to make things right. Meat is tops but staff is completely incompetent. No thanks! read more

Really disappointed with two trips so far an hour drive away and had to toss nearly $200 worth of meat. The Denver steaks were chewy and gross, the top ground steak was terrible, and it's clear they've switched meat suppliers. The prime ribeye was worse than a ShopRite choice ribeye. read more

Being that I was in the area, I had to check it out for myself. I had purchased their A5 wagyu as I was made aware they posted on Facebook about their newest shipment. The store offers various high quality meats that you won't find at your local chain superstore/supermarket. From American Wagyu, to A5 Miyazaki Wagyu, to Tomahawk Steaks, to in-house prepared kebabs, Nick's has it all! At $99.99/lb, Nick's sells their A5 Wagyu at quite a decent price for such an exquisite cut. The only other place I've seen a price like this is at a nearby wholesale store. Being as ""afforable"" (if that's even a word to use for a piece like this) as A5 can get, I most definitely look forward to purchasing more here when I'm in the area! Great butcher with friendly service and EXCELLENT quality meats. Nick's just reopened on Amboy ave and I am so excited that they are back. I came in specifically to get two nice steaks for Valentine's Day. As I was looking through the case I found a good selection of beef and asked the attendant if he had any thicker cuts of bone in ribeye. I was told that he would be happy to cut me whatever size I wanted and that it wasn't a problem. After I gave him my specs, he cut two perfect ribeyes for me. I also was talking with Nick and he informed me that he can source pretty much anything that I wanted including duck and fois grois. Everyone is so helpful here and the prices are at a good point for the quality that you get. I will definitely be coming back here for all of my butcher needs. read more

Heard good things about this place so I thought I would give it a try for some Mother's day food. The guy taking my order decided to charge me porterhouse prices for sirloin burgers. Luckily the cashier noticed it, but only after he charged my card. He refunded me in cash. The guy taking my order acted like it was a joke (not a mistake). I will not be coming back based on this experience alone, it doesn't matter how good the meat is, it ain't worth the stress on figuring out if they are charging you the right amount. This is a belated review. I was in the Edison area and finally stopped by Nick's Meat Depot; a destination I've had bookmarked for some time. Inside are so many options ranging from Prime Beef, aged-beef, sausages, various pork cuts, etc. I spoke to one of the older butchers and asked about the Pichana cut (the famous Brazilian steak cut; a.k.a. Coulotte, or a version of a Top Sirloin), and he remarked that it's a difficult cut to get, and they do not sell it. So I started looking at the other offerings and found something.......... To be honest, I'm no burger aficionado (preferring my beef in steak form), but I keyed in on Nick's special blend burgers, which (if I recall) was a combination of chuck, short-rib, and brisket. Note that there were five burgers in the package. Recently I had a chance to take them out of the freezer and cook them on my skillet at home, and I devoured the burger like a competitive eater! They were delicious, having a tremendous amount of beef flavor and remaining very moist despite cooking the burger to a temperature right at medium (I was shooting for medium rare). My burger was housed in a butter-toasted pretzel bun, with additions of tomato, pickle, and a slice of garlic Jack cheese. What a combination. I will be back to buy these burgers! read more

Very happy to have a great butcher shop so close. Very nice people who are also knowledgeable about how to prepare the meat they make. We really love all the ready made burgers, especially the beef prime. So juicy even for a lean burger if you cook it right. A porterhouse put on the grill for 4-min per side was divine. Chicken and pork has also been delicious. I won't tell you what else I like because then they'll be sold out when I get there. Note they are open on Sundays but close early and are closed on Mondays. Important update: They have moved to Scotch Plains and known as Pat's American Butcher Shop. They say they're moving closer to the original location some time in the future. I was glad to see a bunch of other great ratings already here for Nick's so I know it's not just me. Something about this place feels exclusive and special, the kind of place where employees could have a snobby or hurried attitude (like the Soup Nazi) but they *dont'*. They're at the other end of the spectrum, extremely friendly, helpful, and patient. The meats speak for themselves, excellent quality, but the service really sets them apart, in my opinion. There is almost always a line (~5 deep inside, ~5 deep outside, at least during COVID) but it moves quickly. If you know what you want, I'd definitely order ahead because the longer you stand around in there, the more you end up buying because it all looks so good. read more

Today the family and I stop by the meat market to try out some of their products. The staff was very family and helpful . The place is sorta tuck away in the shopping mall , but if your familiar with the area it isn't a big deal. Place appears super clean and the meats appear super fresh and super high quality so that mean a Super high $$$$ which is expected for this type of meats . Oh man, I'm never buying bacon from anywhere else ever again. I wanted to make a steakhouse meal for my wife for our anniversary, and this place had the goods. 2 porterhouse steaks and super thick cut bacon. The bacon was outrageously good, and the steaks were perfect. I couldn't help myself and got a few burgers too, which all held together and came off the grill perfectly. The pork tasted like a sausage, and the chicken had great seasoning in it. Big fan. I can't wait to come back and try some more of their steaks. For starters, I was told by several friends to come here for any meat I want to cook. And let me tell you they were not wrong. I spent quite a bit of money, but after cooking as Nick instructed me, it was worth every penny. Never have I ever had a steak this good and simple. This is my new place to get any steaks to entertain family and friends and my wife is pushing to get the home made sausage for her sauce. Thumbs up and keep up the great work.
