This is my go-to butcher - even though they are not close to my house, its worth the drive. I do Rodizo/Churrasco (i have a backyard machine) - and they cut everything perfectly for it, including picanha. I also do just a regular rotessierie (fat wrapped and butcher twined). Cant recommend them enough. They are normally busy, so recommend you call your order ahead if you already know what you want. fyi: when they have them in stock, they sell pork roll hot-dogs, try them... my whole family likes em :-) read more

I don't have much to say about this place other than the fact that it is EXHORBITANTLY expensive. The price I was quoted for a brisket was absolutely off the charts (while I appreciate that they trim the fat for me, I paid nearly 150 dollars for a brisket). I get it, it's a quality cut of brisket and all that - but no store in the STATE charges prices like that. Will not be back. read more

Awesome butcher shop! I ordered ten pounds of beef short ribs a few days ahead of time and they were all cut and waiting for me when I arrived on December 24. The meat was beautifully marbled, succulent, fresh and lots of flavor with not even a hint of metallic taste that you would get in a supermarket. I cooked them in a crock pot overnight and the food was amazing! Highly recommend this old-fashioned shop. read more

I'm suspicious that these guys gouge prices depending on who they are dealing with, as well as slip in non prime meat when they can. The first time I came here I purchased two "prime" steaks. When I got home I found one to be exceptionally marbled and one to have choice levels of marbling. I was disappointed. Today I walked in looking for a skirt steak. They tried to charge me 19.98 per lb for skirt steak.... Yes.... Skirt steak. I paid 25 dollars a lb for dry aged strips from Johns Meat Market... I don't think I'll ever return. I'm sure they're fine with that, as they seem to enjoy an ignorant customer base. read more

This is a fantastic vendor. I hesitate to call them a butcher shop because they really do a bit more, offering seafood, fowl and various sundries, eg. Pastas, sauce, frozen pizza, soups, pot pies, and even big-ass Jersey tomatoes. I suspect that many folks won't recognize what a real butcher does, because they are so rare. Ask the old man behind the counter to explain the finer points of pork cutlets and then watch as he cuts, pounds, and then carefully stacks them with paper divides. The porterhouse is cut to order, and will make you glad you walked past the butcher at Wegman's. Don't hesitate to try the homemade hot dogs. My fave are the jalapeño & cheddar. I went to this place to get butchered meat... The place is quite expensive for what you get and I didn't find the quality that great unfortunately. I went back several times to really try to like them, but I wasn't impressed with their products and prices. So unfortunately I don't go back. Its a small place that makes you want to give them your business b/c its like the old mom and pop butchers but the prices and quality aren't worth me going back. I wasn't happy writ ting this two star review, I feel bad for them but being honest hopefully helps them improve. I tried some of their frozen products too, didn't like them... Some friends and family say they used to special order items with them but no longer b/c of their prices, I really do hope to see them in business and I will consider trying them again in a year or so... I hope to come back with a 4 star or better for them. read more

The best of the best. The short rib, brisket burger mix is to die for. I picked up marrow bones to try out a bone marrow recipe and it was over the top crazy good! The selection and freshness are amazing and worth the trip. The only complaint I have is that I wish they had at least one late night during the week! This butcher regularly stocks Prime beef and an assortment of other meats on a regular basis. In Bound Brook, I was told to order Prime, while at Hind ... They stock Prime. Top notch butcher! They carry a variety of cuts - everything from basic chops and steaks to more esoteric ones like tri-tip! Poultry and pork, too. Great place and they do a great job butchering and cleaning the meat from connective tissues/silver skin (if that's what you want). All steaks butchered to order. I've been coming here for years, and have never been disappointed. They are far superior to supermarkets because of the quality & also because they will cut the meat to your exact specifications. Everything is good, but I really like their ground beef (fresh and ground on site), steak, chicken and pork roasts. The freezer section has pre-made hamburgers and they also stock chipped beef that makes a great (and quick) philly cheese steak sandwich. You can call in your order in advance & they'll have it ready for pick up. No matter what you need, Ed & his staff will take good care of you and have you coming back for more. read more

NOT WORTH THE DRIVE or the PRICES THEY CHARGE. At the prices that they charge they should trim the meat. when 20% of the weight in fat, the price is at or above restaurant prices. The steaks that we bought were cut to the wrong thickness. The piece of meat that they were cut from was not fresh, the bottom part of the steaks were grey. Having grown up on driving to the butcher to get the best and freshest cuts, this place is everything that a butcher shouldn't be. When we want something special we wind up driving to north jersey for a butcher. Hind and Fore was supposed to be a good choice with a shorter drive. It's well worth the drive to north jersey for a quality butcher. Totally disappointing. On the only positive note, the dogs seemed to like the flavorless steak. read more

The professional local butcher is a dying breed. But I don't come here for nostalgia. I come for the quality meats and the deep pride that this family takes in serving that quality to their community. You may have become accostomed to the local Giant or Shop-Rite and maybe you even pay up for those stores' "premium" items. Come here some weekend and talk to the butcher about making a Saturday meal for your family and/or friends. You'll leave with a customized plan using quality meat that will open up a whole new world or you. And get some homemade sausage for breakfast the next morning. For me it's all about the dry-aged stuff. The flavor of the beef is concentrated in a nutty and slightly funky way, and you may never go back to regular steak. Yes, you have to pay. The moisture in the original cut evaporates away and the butcher will trim half the original dry crust weight away. A steak that starts at a pound will be less than 1/2 a pound after the dry-aging. So you gotta pay. It's worth it and the price at H&F is better than any other retailer that takes the effort to dry-age (and there are not many) that I have found. read more

The best meat your going to find. The beef is prime, real prime. Yes it's expensive, but go to Wolfgangs in Somerville for a prime steak, and then H&F seems cheap. Try their chicken and pork, it's significally better then what you get at the supermarket. Ever watch the documentary Food, Inc? You'll never eat supermarket chicken again, and maybe beef. Better sourced, better meat. On top of all, they'll cut it anyway you need, and offer advise! Customer service- what a concept. Their frozen food is great also, as is their seafood when they have it. Quality does cost more. If you have the funds to go for the best, this is it, Or for the special occasion. They have weekly and freezer specials, a good way to stock up at a discount. read more

i give them the five stars because they're the absolute real deal. i use their meats for competition cooking and for special occasions. they deal exclusively USDA Prime beef. basically, the top shelf stuff, and the butchers are good guys who will answer all of your questions about the product and even give tips on cooking it to impress. practically speaking, they're more of a 3 star for me, since the difference in price is a little too hard to reconcile for common folk like me to get there often, but to be fair they do run specials that make it a lot easier to splurge. make sure to "like" them on facebook. they keep you informed on butcher related stuff and on promotions you may want in on! read more

H&F are outstanding butchers who have always been able handle my special requests. I never leave with just what I ordered either- they have a great selection of dried meats and sausages and assorted sauces, bones, etc. Great quality does not come cheaply but for special occasions thinks the only place in the area we will use (and we drive 30 minutes t get there!). read more

I had their 60 day dry-aged porterhouse last month, it was one of the best steaks i have ever had. Usually very good, but they are starting to skimp. I asked them to cut four prime rib eye steaks for a dinner party. They bait and switched me and gave me two prime steaks and two inferior steaks. I didn't notice until I got home. Two looked great, two looked just okay. After grilling and slicing, there was no comparison. This is the second time they did this to me. I am not going to pay their high prices for grocery store meat. read more

Great place. Walked in and started asking about sandwiches and someone pokes his head out from the back and say hey what about the Roast Beef....just came outa the oven. I'd give five stars if this place wasn't so darn expensive. The meats are great and the hot dogs are fantastic (and actually fairly reasonably priced considering the quality). I usually drive out on a Friday afternoon and load up for the next two weeks or so. I hate to take more than I can consume though because the meat is too good to freeze.
