This is a family owned butcher and meat shop located in Edison. The owner, Sonny, is welcoming and extremely hands on. They had a fish fry outside of their market during the summer, and Sonny was right there bringing the fish out and helping with orders. The market is clean and well organized. I like the idea of getting my meat from a butcher rather than the larger supermarkets I'm used to. I've heard Sonny's prices are higher, but that's often the flip side of supporting small and local which makes it well worth it. I will make sure to stop by the next time I'm in the area. read more

I called Sonny's Meat Market to get some tenderloins for a friendgiving back in November, and I was so pleasantly surprised to hear that none other than the owner himself picked up! He was very generous with helping schedule a payment and pickup time, making sure I knew to check his social media pages (he wanted to show the way he cuts meats so his customers are only getting the best parts, not making them pay more per ounce), and he has a charming personality to boot. Y'all. I have patronized this black owned business since I've heard about it and every time I come here it looks the same. I lie to you not, this is the most clean and most fresh meat market I've EVER been to in my entire life. Every time I come it's spotless, clean, spick and span. No smell at all. When you look at the meat it's fresh. I've never seen anything like it. Here it is, we go to ShopRites, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, you name it; when their meats are poor quality. Not only does the meats "look" fresh, but once cooked it has such flavor. If you're a person that cooks you know what I'm talking about and there's a major difference. Everything is high today, but I rather know I'm paying for quality food. Mr. Sonny is exceptional, super humble and has a spirit of authenticity. His beautiful wife is a charm also. Anytime you come into this market you can expect a pleasant conversation. The soups Mr. Sonny makes are absolutely incredible; nostalgic even. What a wonderful place. I had a great time finding some hard to get meats and they were so helpful in everything. The place was spotless. I was treated like family and they have everything a meat market has to offer. I highly recommend it. First time going to Sonny's. Went there for chicken breast and came home with a bag of goods. I have cooked 3 items so far and all have been amazing quality meats. I have yet to cook the pork meatballs which look amazing. The store is very clean and everyone has masks on. The selection is wonderful and prices are competitive. Most importantly this is a small business in our community and needs everyone's support. The staff here genuinely cares about your experience and is so friendly. When I walked up, one of the young men who worked there was outside cleaning windows. When I walked in I could not get over how meticulously clean it was inside - I mean impeccably clean. Then my attention went to the spectacular selection of meats. They have a great variety and super fair prices especially for the high quality. The owner came out and greeted us, really nice guy. Customer service is always excellent. Beef cuts are always really good, but the past couple times, the pork chops, pork roast and beef short ribs were dry on the edges before cooking the same day. Perhaps they could put some ice in the meat case to keep the meat more moist. Waxed butchers paper may help as well. read more
