It is a butcher specialty shop so you know it will be more expensive than the local grocers but for for special dinners or if you just want to impress, go to Elite. Paul, his wife and family are just charming and very welcoming. The only downfall is the fact that don't always have everything you might want all the time (veal cutlets), so i recommend calling prior to going. read more

The meat is Prime...the absolute best level of prime...perfectly marbled and perfectly trimmed by a true trained expert butcher. The shop is immaculate. The owner and his wife are lovely and take the time to help me figure portion sizes for hosting holiday dinners. While the meats are the best, so is the poultry...the fresh turkey is like no other. I was dropping my son off at a tutoring center which is located directly next door to this Elite Meat business. I parked in front of this sign that states that parking is for customers only. I assumed that the spots were for all of the businesses in this small strip. It does not specifically state that the parking is for elite meat. When another mother and I got out of our cars with our children, we were about to open the door to the tutoring center. At this time the owner of the butcher shop came out and berated us in front of our six year old children. Agressively he shouted, "You can not park here. This is for my business only. I am losing business. Cars are passing by" Repeatedly he called us rude and disrespectful. When we explained to him that we were paying customers for the tutoring company and did not realize that the spot wasn't for the small strip, he slammed the door in our faces. The owner of the shop was clearly in a rage and not being professional. We are specifically upset that he did this in front of our young children who recognized his behavior and were frightened. read more

We bought some rib eye steaks. I think you can tell by my 5 stars how I felt about them. They were so beautifully marbled. So tender. I had my husband put mine on the charcoal grill with some mesquite chips just long enough for it to get nervous then it was heaven. I'm so glad we can't afford to get meat every day here or I would be so fat. The owner is so patient and didn't seem to mind my wanting the fattiest steak. Since my previous review, I've had countless encounters with Paul and team and the quality and service have only gotten better. I'm pretty picky when it comes to meat and I can honestly say I've never had a less than stellar cut. Some new, fantastic cuts I've had since my last review are the lamb shanks, brats, breakfast sausage, European London broil (flat iron), and chicken cutlets. As a matter of fact when I walk through the meat section in the super market I shake my head because I know those cuts of meats do not even come close to what Paul and Elite Meat carry. Elite Meat is one of the best butcher's I've dealt with. As one of the other reviewers mentioned - his steaks are, hands down, the best I've purchased anywhere - he makes it hard for me to order a steak when I go out to dinner, as many of them can't meet his standard. He's also great when you're looking for something the grocery store won't carry - he seems to be able to get you anything. The plate of short ribs he brought in for me when I wanted to try one of the Molecular Gastronomy recipes was stellar. More down to earth - his burgers and the store done chipotle pork chops in the summer are terrific; chicken wings are nice and meaty - and the slab bacon just rocks. One point to keep in mind - he sometimes has things in back that aren't in the display case - dry aged steaks spring to mind - so if you don't see what you're looking for, ask him. I recently moved into Clinton and had no idea that a top quality butcher was right around the corner from my house. I had to pick up steaks for my annual NYE dinner and I wandered in here. The guys behind the counter were very friendly and quite knowledgeable about their steaks. I picked up a filet and a prime rib steak and let me tell you their flavor was incredible. It is so nice to have a butcher in Clinton! Not only is the staff very friendly and helpful but the quality of their food is top notch. I have gotten skirt steaks, filet mignon, chicken breast and stew meat that was all really great. We made meatballs and they made us a pork, veal, beef mix that was perfection. Agree with the review below that there is no need to step foot in Shop Rite ever again! The quality of Paul's meat is second to None and he will always suggest something that fits your budget and tell you HOW to cook it so that it comes out so tasty. My favorite??? The European London Broil is amazing and is the least expensive steak in the cabinet. I recommend you try. My family LOVES the stew meat ... they can tell the difference right away. The meat here truly is elite..... recently bought stew meat that was so tender it was like filet mignon. Porterhouse steaks cut to 1.5" thick were fantastic on the grill. Paul gets his meat in fresh each week so I would call to make sure he has what you want before you come. Great butcher! Incredibly friendly staff especially the owner! Anything we've bought has been delicious and we now buy all our chicken, chop meat, and steaks from here even if it's just a half pound chop meat we need at that time - nice and fresh! Our absolute favorite is just his fresh made burgers with a nice simple seasoning of salt, pepper, and garlic. A true gem here, in the small town on Clinton. I recently purchased a couple NY strip steaks for dinner and a pair of smoked ham hocks for another recipe. The strip steaks were wonderfully marbled and expertly aged for that amazing, nutty, aged flavor. The ham hocks were a wonderful addition to my southern dish. I am an amateur BBQ chef and have been buying most of my meat in large slabs from BJs in Flemington. For Passover this year, I decided to forgo the lower grade Brisket at BJs in Flemington (typically choice grade I think) and splurge for some Prime grade Brisket. I called around the area and found two places - one in Clinton (Elite) and another premium butcher that I passed on in Bridgewater (they were alot more expensive). I ordered up my Brisket from Elite a few days in advance, and ensured they understood I wanted the fat cap on since I was gonna cook this in a smoker (and not like a pot roast like my Jewish friends do). Upon arriving, they pulled out this incredible 11+ lb slab or brisket, and trimmed it to my specs (I wanted about an 1/8" inch of fat left in place). After trimming it, they weighed it and I paid and left rather excited to see how it would come out. I can only say that it was incredible. Not one bite was left of that Brisket at the end of our Saturday night Seder. I will admit that it does take some skill to know how to properly cook a Brisket (it has to be cooked by feel, not by temp). I also have a wet rub that is amazing. I highly recommend this place and will be buying more of my meat from them. read more
