It's nice to see a small family run business that really cares about what they are doing. It might seem intimidating the first time, since it's not all laid out like a grocery store...you have to know what you are looking for. But even if you aren't 100% clear on what you want, you can just tell him what you are trying to accomplish and he will figure out what you need, and how much of it. It's a much nicer experience than going to the grocery store, for sure. It's the type of place that reminds you of small town living. When you go in, chances are that he'll remember what you ordered the last time and ask you how it went. He's not open on Mondays, which is good to keep in mind. George's has made me realize that everyone should go to a butcher for their meat at least once, and ideally, purchase all their meat there. Not to sound sappy, but for me, it really drives home the fact that the meat that you eat was once a part of an animal. It's not just some sanitized, vacuum sealed, styrofoamed item for purchase. I think it's important to have a real connection with the food you eat, and George's helps me with that.

As I walked around, I saw beautiful steaks, chops, burgers, Italian and Polish sausages, chicken and veal cutlets, German cold cuts, homemade bratwurst, hot dogs, kielbasa, and a variety of wursts. They also carry organic whole chickens and chicken parts, along with homemade chicken patties and chicken sausages. If you enjoy German foods, Barth's has a nice selection of dried spaetzle and other German-style noodles, along with Kabanos and other specialty items. They also have a fresh fish department. What really surprised me was how much more they offer besides meat. You can pick up homemade prepared foods and entrées, locally sourced fresh breads, milk, eggs, dairy products, drinks, fresh vegetables, salads, condiments, and plenty of other items to put together an entire meal. I bought steaks, Italian sausage, kielbasa, bread, and Kabanos sausage, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. The quality of the meats at Barth's is truly outstanding, and you can tell they take pride in what they sell. There's a free parking lot attached to the building, which is very convenient along with a couple of handicapped spaces, and they even have some outdoor seating if you want to grab a sandwich or something to eat and enjoy it outside. I can definitely see why I've heard so many good things about Barth's. Great quality, knowledgeable and friendly service, a welcoming atmosphere, and an impressive selection. You don't come here for that, you come here for the products. I see other reviews regarding prices not being marked, the owners definitely saw that because most items had prices per lb. All the prepared food was clearly marked. A lot of the reviews here are outdated. Shop small and local, give them a shot. They need your business more than Whole Foods, or the major chain grocery stores.

To that end, if you have a problem with either Dan or his staff, I would have to say that the problem is most likely with you. They couldn't be nicer, more courteous and helpful. I know that sounds like a lot for serving somebody BBQ but those fairgrounds on a weekend can be a certified nuthouse. At no time did I see anyone lose their patience or desire to help the customers.
