Worst shrimp I've had in any place by far. Service was horrible and the wait time was too much for my liking

My sister and I ordered shrimp spring rolls and shrimp pho. We asked for grilled spring rolls, which did not come grilled. Nonetheless, they were tasty. The pho was super great, and I finally figured out how to fix it perfectly (a squeeze of hoisin sauce, a squeeze of sriracha, sprouts, one jalapeño slice, and a squeeze of lime). It's ok. Nothing spectacular. The pork bon mi is tasty. The condiments such as basil and mint are rarely fresh enough.

Second time there. Had the fried pho the first time. Terrible, stick with traditional pho and leave the fusion and remakes to Emirel or the Iron Chefs. Second time I got the Pho and it was good but I thought the broth was kinda sweet. Plus side were the bean sprouts were fresh and the roots were removed! I went for the first time tonight with my girlfriend. I ordered the potstickers (stuffed with chicken and steamed) they were perfect. For our entrees, I ordered the pho combo and she ordered the chicken pho (our first time ever eating pho) . My pho came with your typical ingredients. Noodles. Scallions. Red onion. Cilantro. Brisket. Meatballs. And steak. And on the side, basal. Bean sprouts. Lime. jalapeno. Hoisin. And siracha. My girlfriend's came with the same stuff except instead of all the meat, just chicken. I can't speak for my girlfriend but my pho was AMAZING. The bowl it comes in was about twice the size I imagined. The amount of noodles was INSANE, yet had the perfect amount of broth for such the amount of noodles. It was good alone, but I added a touch of lime and a lot of bean sprouts. As well as a bit too much siracha and a little hoisin. Even despite the amount of siracha I added, it was great. My only complaint is the texture of the meatballs. It was a bit weird to me. I'm not sure how to describe it though. Overall, the atmosphere was really homey and inviting. They had a few other tables but it wasn't crowded or loud. Our waitress was excellent. She would come by often to check on us. She confidently answered any and all questions we had. The only thing that knocked this from a perfect 5 was the meatballs. I'm so sorry but I don't like the new change at White Bowl. Gone is the sampler platter, one of our favorite things. My wife ordered the crab Rangoon and they arrive burnt. Had to send them back for a redo. Ordered my grand daughter the noodles off of the children menu. We asked for some chicken in it and they upgraded it from a children meal to a full adult meal at 11.00. The nice menus are gone and replaced with a greasy spoon looking menu without updated. The spring roll used to be to die for. Now much smaller and tougher. Staff is great no problems here. I ordered the bun hue no, same as Pho only spicy. It didn't come with the side plate of basil, lime and spouts. My wife had the beef baquet. No much on it for the price. Overall, for 55.00, we didn't feel as we got value for money. Sorry , don't think we will be returning soon. read more

Rice Bowl has THE BEST Bahn Mi I've ever had. STUFFED with chargrilled pork and the normal fixings and the softest Bahn Mi bread I've ever had! The Spring Rolls were amazing b/c they add a little cajun spice to the shrimp that is in them. Fantastic Prices as well. I can't wait to go back. Well since I already have another Viatnemese restaurant already reviewed, I will refrain from any Pho puns. I pledge from now until Pho-ever, I will never do it again......oooops. Anyway, It has been my experience that Viatnamese food is the best value in dining. I have seen footlong Bahn-Mi sandwiches for a little over Pho Bucks....I mean 4 bucks. Sorry I can't contain myself. The White Bowl is right on with the cheap eats thing. The girlfriend and I split an order of springrolls, a big bowl of Pho, an order of Bun, and a Bahn-Mi for 31.00. Oh and that included 2 bottles of water. The food itself was solid. The spring rolls were a little boring but I think that's more about the dish itself than anything they did. I just can't get over eating food that looks like it's wrapped in a Ziploc bag. The dipping sauce looked and tasted an awful lot like Nutella. I almost asked but didn't. The Bahn-Mi I had was slightly different than others I have tried. It had the usual pork and pickled veggies but this one came with jalapenos and spicy mayo. Not traditional but I guess it works(I hate mayo so I ordered mine without.). The bread was toasted and more like a Po-boy than others I had. Again it was good. The Bun was my favorite part of the meal. It was rice noodles, chargrilled steak, cucumbers, mint, bean sprouts, lettuce, green onion, and peanuts, It came with a dipping sauce but I just poured it over the whole shabang. So Good! So much food!!! We took home more leftovers than we ate. The only problem I had with the place was after we ordered, the waitress tells us that their internet is down and they can't take credit cards. She said this happened a lot to them in the summer but hadn't in quiet some time. I had to drive to an ATM to get cash as I NEVER carry cash because it's 2013 and I'm not my father. It seems to me that if they had this problem before than they should have found another solution. Iphone Credit card adapters? a phone line to run the cards? One of those old school sliding machines??? There are other ways than to inconvience your customers. To me that is Un-Pho-givable! Other than that it's a solid place and the only game in Houma for this type of food. read more

Really disappointed by the spring rolls. Did not taste right.. the atmosphere is alright, nothing crazy.. but I still feel that it has a "sad" atmosphere.. could do better at this level. Either than this I had their Shaken Steak which actually was really really good ! I really liked it but I think it was bit pricy in general but I would definitely come back and try again. read more

I ate here on 1-17-15 it wasn't that great. On this visit I ordered the Grilled Beef Bánh mì sandwich to go. This was dressed with spicy mayo, julienned vegetables, cilantro and jalapenos. I guess I should have checked my sandwich while in this place. The meat was barley luke warm, salty and far from tender. It was dressed with way to much of the cilantro and barley anything else. From the bad sandwich to the not so friendly service ( more into each other than the customers) I don't plan on coming back anytime soon. read more

Only place in the Houma area to get Vietnamese food. I received poor reviews from a friend when they tried the food the first time. This was back in the early 2010s. I tried it again recently and it definitely earns a recommendation in my book. Pho was good, Bo Luc Lac (Shaken Steak/Beef) was phenomenal. Try it for yourself. read more

Another wonderful experience at White Bowl! With the weather warming up, I opted for the Vermicelli over the Pho. While I love the Pho, the Vermicelli was just what I needed after a long hot day. Sooooooo I'm from Northern Virginia (20min from Washington DC) and just moved down to Raceland. Up north we have an abundance of Vietnamese Pho restaurants. I have had my share of pho, Banh mi, and shrimp rolls. We yelped this place in hopes of finding a new pho home. We were greeted at the door and told to have a seer. The restaurant was clean, quiet, and the decor was nice. Let's talk pho: I had the pho shrimp. The broth was amazing! It was perfectly brewed. I added all of my fixings and was in heaven. My daughter and sister both had the pho chicken. There were no complaints from them. Their broth was great as well. Everything came to the table fresh and hot. We also ordered some grilled shrimp rolls. Those were very fresh and tasty! I enjoyed my food. I will definitely be back! read more

Cute little place. Came in from a suggestion from a guy working at the mall. Was a little leary, not knowing the area very well. The food was beyond amazing. The waitress was very helpful and gave me a great recommendation and it is my new favorite dish. I saw so many people eating the Pho even though it is 90 degrees outside. I used to love White Bowl years ago, and it's upsetting to see the decline in customer service and overall experience. I chose to have my birthday lunch at White Bowl recently. Walking in, the place was empty except for a table of two dining. We were not greeted, chose a table, and waited a few minutes for the server to bring menus. She took our drink orders, and asked if we were ready. Noticing that the menu had changed since the last time we dined there, we asked for a few minutes to decide. Apparently this isn't the answer she wanted, because she rolled her eyes and had an attitude. Once she came back, we ordered appetizers and began our entree order. The server was extremely condescending and very rude. Every little question about the new menu or request seemed to irritate her even more. (Who knew asking for no fried onions or fish sauce on top of the Vermicelli bowl could be so insulting?) She grabbed our menus out of our hands and mumbled something about asking the kitchen if they could even cook for us. Shocked, we looked at each other, and decided to leave. I work in the service industry and understand that there are good and bad days, but I would never treat customers that way. Especially customers who were just asking questions about the new menu! Instead we drove to Siam House in Houma and had a wonderful lunch. Very friendly service there and they were very kind to explain any questions or accommodate any dietary concerns we had. Even though we weren't even able to try the food, White Bowl left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

I get the rare flank most times and it's great but tried the shrimp pho and was pretty disappointed with the shrimp they were smaller than quarters and seemed like the really cheap frozen ones. Great Vietnamese restaurant. Both the pomegranate and mango bubble tea were great. We started with lemon grass spring rolls that were awesome with the peanut sauce. Our waiter Marco was very helpful in helping me decide what I wanted since I wasn't in the mood for Pho. I decided on stir fried pho with steak. It was cooked great and the steak was juicy. The shrimp pho was also great and too much to finish in the restaurant, so we went for a Togo box. We had great service and was treated well when asking for lime and beansprouts. I'm pretty picky about my spring rolls and peanut sauce, and the combination here is about as good as it gets. I wanted the Shaken Steak, but with the $5 spring rolls, the additional $14.50 was too much for lunch. I went with the Grilled Beef instead, which was good, but for the price I expected more beef. Only complaint about this place is that it's overpriced. Maybe that's the going rate for Houma, but I'm used to getting the same or better/more in Houston for 20-25% less price. read more

Only Vietnamese place in town...food is good. Not great, but good. The Pho broth needs work. The staff is less than knowledgable about the menu & aren't too good at explaining thing. They also can't explain how to eat Pho. I see people struggling to eat it almost every time I'm here. The owner however is very helpful. Prices are very good. All around, great place! read more

Excellent service, great food. The first time I went, I was not educated about the food, so I didn't care for what I ordered. But the staff was so friendly, that it didn't' matter that much. I went again way later with friends who did know the cuisine and rather enjoyed it. The staff is very, very accommodating and the food is very good. Great Food and fast service BUT I really dislike that they do not clean the tables in a timely manner and when they do they "DUMP" all the plates on the table in front of the other people eating and then they pick up the paper with all the food dumped on the table;(. The rare steak pho is awesome! This is the only place in Houma that I know of serving pho, and the flavors and broth are excellent.

Today the wife and I stopped in for lunch. Being that it's a chilly day, I am wanting pho. Only place in the area so let's do it. We started with the wings. I enjoy these. They are in my top 5 when done right. And today, they where great. I decided to venture out and try the special of the day "bun Bo hue!" Boy was that a mistake. Hard to describe, three issues. First, it's very oily (as seen in the pic), second, it has what appears to be spaghettini noodles in it. And third its spicy, really spicy. Good thing my wife got the rice with grilled pork. I ate as much as I could of the bun Bo hue, it made me queasy, so my lovely wife had to share. We have eaten here many times before, and the pho is good for the area. I give them . If you come in for a bite, order the wings, then either then pho with rare steak, or the rice with grilled pork and you will be happy. Stay away from the bun Bo hue. Trust me! read more

the environment was very nice. I really like the decorations there but the food was ok. I took my parents there to eat and they were not that impressed and they are Vietnamese. I had the french bread and it was really good, I suggest it with the nem. My parents had pho and that was ok...not as good as other Vietnamese restaurants I've gone too. My boyfriend enjoyed his lemongrass rice but from my taste that could have been done at home for cheaper. I was excited about this place opening, but its been pretty mediocre so far. I LOVE pho, especially pho ga (chicken pho) and the stuff you can get here is just okay. Not as complex or flavorful as I am used to. My boyfriend is a huge fan, though. He usually gets the bahn mi and he absolutely loves it... but he never had Vietnamese food before this joint opened. It's nice to have a local option, but you can get way better Vietnamese food in NOLA. read more

I ordered foods to go and told them to put everything on the side for my baguette and they ended up not doing what I asked for plus they did not give me all the stuffing for my baguette. And, I also ordered some grilled shrimp spring rolls and they didn't give me the dip for it. And, now they rise the prices on all their foods. Also, their pho is very disappointing because of not enough stuffs(beef and meatballs) put into the soup and not much flavor in the soup. And they overcharge the pho more than what you get from the dish. read more

Really surprised to find this place. I tried the Pho and the Bahn Mi sandwich. Both we're outstanding. Staff was super friendly. I had my food to go and it was packed very well, with absolutely everything I would need, not something that's easily done for Pho. Look forward to going back for more. read more
