When ordering a hamburger steak be aware its a frozen Salzburg patty , not what the menu states. And the roast beef Po-boy has feel off the menu also , when confronting the waitress about the food, she was honest, and yes did receive credit. But we did receive great service from her but since 2025 the food is not restaurant quality . This establishment is known for its food and quality. But as of 5/16/26 this customers wont be satisfied until they solve the issue with their food. And please raise the AC & empty the bathroom cans . The over all inside was clean. I was REALLY disappointed in my meal tonight. I read multiple reviews on Yelp and thought I was headed for a wonderful meal. Not even close... (My server was fabulous though.) I ordered the fried green tomatoes (per her suggestion) and they were really good. My entree was completely disappointing. I ordered the shrimp boil with sausage, corn and potatoes. I first tried the potatoes and was shocked to find they were cold (and I don't mean - not piping hot - I mean COLD). I put my hand on the corn and discovered it was also cold. I let my server know and she quickly replaced them with hot ones. OK. Things happen, I continue my meal. I ordered a pound of shrimp and it was so overcooked that I could barely peel it. In fact, it shredded the meat as I tried to pry off the shells. Sadly, I gave up and walked away leaving 1/2 a pound of shrimp sitting there. I'm one and done. read more

if i could leave no stars i would. I've never in my life been treated the way i have tonight. i'm sitting at the restaurant currently with no appetite waiting for my server to come to me. The host was very nice sat us down and our server came about 2 minutes later, no issue she asked for our drinks and then asked for entrees "if yall know what yall want or no'.. we knew our appetizers so we told her we'd order that and order entrees after. while we were ordering she talked over us the entire time as if she was ready to leave the table. never checked on us not once since appetizers were out and my charbroiled oysters were missing an oyster from one of the shells.. couldn't even tell my server because she didn't check on us. anyways, got our entrees in and i couldn't even finish telling her i wanted the soft shell crabs before she started talking over me. i'm beyond disappointed my first time here was great. i am a young server myself and i have never treated anyone this way. We were told Big Al's was the best Cajun food in Houma, particularly when it came to boiled seafood. We ordered a variety of seafood and none of it was great. The boiled shrimp was overcooked and mushy. The crab soup was more New England than Cajun. The fried seafood combo was under seasoned (unforgivable at a Cajun restaurant!) and none of the shrimp were properly cleaned. The prices were high and the service was functional but that's it. When we come back to Houma (and we will come back!) this restaurant won't be on our list of places to revisit. read more

When I was in Houma, Louisiana, I asked a local for good places to eat. At a time when the town is still recovering from Ida, you can't always tell which restaurants are open again. Luckily, Big Al's Seafood was open so I grabbed a late lunch on a Tuesday. I ordered the fried shrimp salad. It was a large salad with iceberg lettuce, quartered tomato and eggs. The shrimp were fresh and very good. I liked the little but if heat in the batter. I ordered a to go bread pudding with rum sauce snd shared it with a friend. Very yummy. I can see where this restaurant with many appetizers, seafood, fried foods and large portions might be bad for the waistline but good for the appetite. read more

Great staff, Great New Orleans food!! Came down for work/training (Boston local) and was highly recommended by everyone I talked to. Was so good Wednesday night I had to come back Friday night for more. I had the same bartender both nights and she is one of the best I've ever experienced. Food was amazing, I highly recommend the blackened alligator, the charbroiled oysters, and any of there gumbo's. Everything I had was amazing. The fried shrimp was delicious and the sauces very good. Unfortunately the fries were cold and limp even before I was able to get them back to the hotel a few minutes away. I wish now I had eaten in because the ambience was outstanding, the smells were delicious and the customers looked fun and inviting. Have eaten here multiple times. Service has always been great. Food is excellent and the menu is huge! Oysters are delicious and cheaper than most places. If you get the charbroiled ones, add the jalapeños and bacon. So yummy. My husband enjoys getting the club sandwich when it's hot and he needs something lighter. We ordered take out for a large group. The food was great, everyone liked it. I had grilled shrimp and and potatoes. The potatoes were quite spicy but the amount of shrimp made up for it. The only complaint I have is that they didn't label the meals so we had to open up each one and figure out what it was before we could hand it out. I do recommend eating here. Wanted to switch it up a little and try out Big Al's this was the first time I been to this location as I have been gone from Houma since 2003 visiting about 3-4 times a year. My wife had the Ceasar salad grilled shrimp. She asked the server were they regular size shrimp not small salad shrimp she said regular shrimp and the salad came out with salad shrimp that were not deveined that turned her off. But she did enjoy the salad and dressing and was pretty satisfied despite. I had the blackened redfish which was phenomenal with the boiled potatoes I had a craving for and they were perfectly seasoned. No surprise there as they are know for their boiled seafood. The service was great my only disappointment was the shrimp boulettes. They were seasoned good but not the traditional way I remember them. Overall great experience. read more

Small portion only enough for ONE !! QuarterView Restaurant on Clearview Pkwy in Jefferson Parish has a single Seafood Platter for $23.00 that is TWICE as big as Big Al's $36 Seafood Platter ! I feel bad for you Houma. You really lack in the seafood restaurant selection. They all seem to be waaaay overpriced. You would think that the fried alligator on the menu would be pretty good considering the location but it was so tough that we didnt even want it anymore. Thank goodness that wasn't our first impression of eating fried alligator. Big Al's has tons of appetizer choices and your usual fried platter options.
