Bloody Mary
Greg J.

OMG!!! Went for Sunday brunch. Had about a 20 minute wait to be seated, but after eating there, I'd have waited an hour. Started with Irish coffee, then had the Crab Cake Benedict. These were the best crab cakes I've ever eaten, on top of a biscuit that was a little crispy on the edges and soft, warm & moist in the center, all covered in a crawfish cream sauce. Absolutely delicious. And the Bloody Mary, made in house from scratch had just the right amount of kick. Had me sweating a bit, just like I like it. Service was friendly & efficient with no hovering. The whole vide of the place was welcoming and friendly. A little cross talk between tables is never a bad thing at brunch.

Good beignets! Quintessential cajun breakfast. Great service right in the heart of Thibodaux. Had a side of bacon that was delightfully crispy.

Crawfish stew with fried catfish chips and hush puppies

You can always count on great food and service at Sphar's in Thibodaux. The soft shell crab was fried to perfection. It truly was a treat. The crawfish stew was delicious with an abundance of crawfish. It does have some spice to it but it was good for me. I also had the potato salad and it was really good with the stew.

Shrimp stew, boiled shrimp salad, hamburger steak and kids catfish ate

My family's dining experience here was great. The crawfish stew with catfish tails was great. The boiled shrimp salad was awesome and the hamburger steak was off the chain. Please give it a try.

Burnt oysters

The amount of oyster were hardly any, the oysters on poboy were burnt to a crisp. Seafood salad was disgusting. Asked for blue cheese, we got nothing, ask for no olives, we got olives. The crab looked like it was squeezed together from a can and placed on the side. Very very very disappointing that Spars allow this to happen

You do not get to Thibodaux, Louisiana by accident. You have to WANT to actually get there. And…read moreeven then it may not necessarily be easy unless you pay attention to where the hell you are going. Especially if there is a bridge out somewheres and you gotta reroute the way you have to go. For the uninitiated Louisiana is a state. But I would also say it is a different country too. But that ain't a bad thing at all. Unless you end up on the wrong side of somebody you happen to piss off severely. This is not the case with your ole Yelp buddy Madman. Madman has friends and makes friends wherever he goes. Yes. Yes he does. Ya gotta be down with the peeps. You must talk with them, laugh with them, drink with them, and have sex with them too if this is what they want. Don't be a snob. Don't think you are better than anybody else. Everybody has got something they can teach to you. Including but not limited to sexual positions. ALAS! I digress! (I do that a lot). But every now and again you stumble upon an unexpected gem that is such a great find that it doesn't even look like a gem at all. It appears at first as a mirage. So..Louisiana is a state but also a different country. And within the country of Louisiana exists another country called Thibodaux. Stay with me here! Now inside of Thibodaux (inside of Louisiana) there is another country called the Jungle Casino which shares a border with another country called The Congo Lounge. These two countries share a DMZ known as Blakes Deli. You just can't make this shit up! Here you go: http://www.congolounge.net/ Blakes deli is way the fuck better than Switzerland too (also where the Congo Lounge and the Jungle Casino are located. In case you ever wondered where the hell that actually was..NOW you know!) Technically it is located also in the Adventure Truck Plaza which I believe also has the same status as its own country like the Vatican or Malta. It is here in this magical land that I enjoyed one of the BEST damn oyster po boy sammiches I have ever had in my life. Right there in the fillin' station. Yes, sir! I did and it was better than many I have payed a lot more money to eat. Here is the menu: http://www.congolounge.net/blake_poboys.htm Yep! That oyster poboy was LOADED with oysters. Cooked PERFECTLY. And they got shrimp, catfish, and roast beef poboy sammiches too. And great fried chicken and beer too. I realize I make this shit look easy sometimes. Doing these reviews. I hope you people who read this shit appreciate the fact that I often risk my own life to get this type of information to you. Andrew Zimmern is a joke. He should roll with me sometime. It would be fun to hear him whine like a girly man as he feared for his life. Adventurer my ass! You have not had an adventure until you have located, eaten, and made it out of the Adventure Truck Plaza. So if you haven't the just shut the hell up. No. Seriously. Shut the hell up. Especially in this place. Nobody gives a damn who you are so if you think you are somebody OR you actually are somebody..shut your mouth. Unless you are eating. NOTE: Drive thru frozen Daiquiris across the road. Yes it is legal. But not to drink them while driving. Again. SHUT UP! You ask too many questions. Get one. Don't get one. This is Thibodaux, LA. Shut your mouth and play along. Got it? Good.

Poboys are always overstuffed and tasteful. Drove all the way from Houma to come here! Would highly recommend to friends and family!

I have been a fan of this company since I was a young boy and things haven't changed. Recently I…read morewas asked to cater a dear friends wedding and being from out of state, over a 9 hour drive, I didn't want to bring the food. Remembering this store from my last visit, I placed an order with the corporate office to see which store had the quantity I needed etc. I was thinking that they would have to pool what was needed and it would be better than depleting stores of inventory and making an ordering nightmare. The Store manage of Rouses 16, Russell Clement, called me back within a day of ordering and had already had my list and items on hand accounted for according to cost per pound, size of each item, and total weight. From prime filet of beef to whole skin on loins of fresh caught tuna to the smallest detail of pipping bags, him and his staff bent over backwards to make this as painless as possible. We showed up an hour late with panic in our eyes. My Chef de Cuisine and I had misplaced our menu, menu list, prep times, bake times, ingredient list, hardware list etc. Being ones to work well under pressure, we sat down with a morning coffee and rewrote a new menu. Trying to keep it simple because I hadn't been here in sometime, I wasn't sure of the incidentals that they had and we needed to hurry and apply what we could to the existing proteins we had holding in cold storage from our earlier order. Russell greeted us and handed over a clip board and pen and was never more than 30 feet away. He gave us the space we needed to work and rewrite the menu but always making sure that our time was of utmost importance. When we asked for something, it was there. His staff were like that of a fine restaurant, you waited for nothing. It was as if they had several options waiting in the wings and what we needed was always one that they preplanned. Jeremy escorted me to the butcher station and showed me our lamb, goat, and filet order. I asked if he could french cut the lamb and at what price and without hesitation, he said would have it ready and at no cost. That saved my staff at least 2 hours of prep time. We also asked for the waste for stocks and that was wrapped and stored separately. I could go on for hours about the meat section alone but the bread department,t with Heidi and the others, was amazing as well. Our order was taken, baked then cut and ready for delivery the next morning. Their calm cool and collectiveness kept us on track as the minutes ticked away of our prep time. As I walked down the isles, I added at least 5 new menu items simply because I wasn't expecting to find the complete sections of Far east, and middle eastern items. Everything from Indian to Asian allowed me to make added changes that would cut down on prep and cooking time. After 3 hours of shopping, we were finally done. Caviar, prime filet, tuna, lamb, goat, oysters, shrimp and crab meat, were the main ingredients with many more in the buggy, ended up just over 3500.00 dollars for a catering job for 100 people. Russell, Heidi, Jeremy, Winnie, Antole, Ben and the rest of the staff at Rouses 16, thank you for making my job that much easier. This place has everything from an amazing selection to an incredible staff.

Probably my favorite Rouse's to date. They were clean and they had a lot of healthy options. I was…read moreable to find quite a few of the obscure items on my list (like red curry sauce). It was a successful grocery trip.
