Today was the Thibodeauxville Fall Festival. Fremin's is usually not open for lunch but today offered a limited lunch menu served in take out containers. It was very busy and we sat at the bar. We had a lovely time chatting with the locals. My husband and I shared a 1/2 dozen char grilled oysters and 1/2 of a muffuletta. We've had better.....the oysters weren't even warm and the bread of the muffuletta was dense and didn't seem fresh. We did watch a server take a tray of sizzling oysters to a table near by.....they were probably pretty good. I understand from the people we chatted with that they are great for dinner. read more

Very good food and drinks. Service is usually excellent especially if your server is Hayden C who is always phenomenal either as your bartender or server. Ambiance is great as it's a fun and comfortable place to dine and have drinks. Pricey but worth it for the quality, service, and environment. read more

Uggghhh...the French onion gratin and charged grilled oysters...get me EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. The fresh baked bread is also a hit for me.

It's been many years since I've been to Fremin's, and I already can't wait to go back. The food was phenomenal. Presentation was as beautiful. Service was out of this world. We were treated very well, and since it was our anniversary they made it special by writing Happy Anniversary on our dessert plates. Highly recommend this place! Went to Flanagans last night and I guess now they serve Fremins menu some nights (same owners or something) so I was already like eh bc I didn't have a good last experience at Fremins, but thought maybe it'll be better now, it's a different restaurant location so who knows. But NO. Appetizer was decent I'll give them that, the shrimp lafourche. But omg, the meals. I would describe it as that friend who usually cooks well but then gets drunk and tries to cook and just does everything with a much heavier hand. Like it looked alright but the flavors were just a mess. I got the crawfish tortellini which just had way too much lemon, it was actually sour, and had so much seasoning. And usually that's a good thing but in this case they put too much of all the wrong seasonings. Just gross and weird tasting. I wanted to wash the tortellini and eat it plain. My husband got the crab chowder which tasted like plastic for some reason. He also got the gumbo and potato salad. Potato salad must have been store bought, definitely didn't taste or look restaurant style. Gumbo tasted like they were trying to give it that smoky hint but instead it just way overpowered it and literally all you could taste was the smokiness, no meat or gumbo taste at all. We got dessert to try and save the night, I mean you can't mess up bread pudding right? Wrong. So much nutmeg and/or cinnamon. It was just so bad. My husband and I had stomach aches the rest of the night, like our bodies were angry with us for eating any of that. Really bad experience. I probably should've given one star but the appetizer was honestly alright and the waitress was sweet so that's where the 2 came from. read more

Let's start off by saying that I made a reservation for my anniversary and were seated promptly. Our server took a couple of minutes to take our drink order which was not a problem. It took almost 30 minutes to get our drinks. Still in a festive mood but realizing things might get backed up, we ordered an appetizer. When the appetizer came out we ordered a salad and our meal. Salad took a while but was delicious. So we are about an hour into our dining experience and finished a fantastic appetizer and great salads. I ordered a bottle of wine to go with dinner. The wine showed up almost 30 minutes later. No meal. Two hours into our visit the waitress notifies us that they are playing our food. At this point we were not interested in eating as it had been over an hour since we finished our salads (did I mention that the salads and entrees were ordered at the same time!) and asked that the entrees be cancelled. The "manager" came out and offered no apology, only excuses. Then when the bill came to me is was charged a 4% Admin fee. When I questioned this the manager said that's the upcharge for using a credit card. I said that i didn't plan on using one but since she forced my hand I did. I will say the food that I did get was excellent but the complete lack of service and lack of remedy offered by "management" for the ruination of my anniversary dinner will prevent me from ever going back. read more

So glad I decided to try Fremin's. I had the chargrilled oysters, a cup of duck & andoullie gumbo and two old fashioneds. Also had the bread with butter and oil before the meal. Everything was delicious and the bill for the food was only $20. (Half a dozen oysters 14, cup of gumbo 6). With the bread and oil I was happily full. The drinks were well made and the waitress / bartender was attentive and friendly. Will be back. read more

The service was great, no complaints. The building is amazing with great ambiance as well. Started off with the Atlantic Scallops which were worthy of licking the plate. Very good and cooked just right. The Seafood Napoleon was delicious and filling. The first 2 of 3 eggplants on the stack were cut pretty thick compared to the third one. The Boudin stuffed quail arrived at the table looking like a scrumptious meal just waiting to be devoured. At first bite a light game flavor to the pallet was complimented by a delicious red wine Demi glaze. The 3 asparagus were finely cooked and were not at all stringy. Be warned if you are trying to look and act like a civilized person this dish can get a little messy. We finished with martinis and will likely be back for more! read more

Start off with the chargrilled oysters!! We almost didn't but saw the table next to us get it and we're so happy we did. Very delicious. I was working in Morgan City when me and a buddy decided to go check this place out - once we sat down and had their amazing bread and butter we knew we made a great choice. Nice restaurant, great ambiance. But the last 2 times my family has ate there the food has been less than desirable. Both time the my steak has come out cold and thin. My wife's pecan crusted chicken was dry and had entirely too much seasoning on it. The gumbo is great and drinks were also good. For the price I expect better. read more

When I say this restaurant is the best, it is. Set in downtown historic Thibodaux, Fremins has stood tall against decades of different businesses nearby. It stands the test of time so let based on its timeless dishes. I've been here dozens of times and the food is just as welcoming as the staff. Specialty martinis half price after 6pm nightly. Don't forget to order the famous chargrilled oysters. The steak is always cooked to order and the chef himself makes his rounds to the customers to check if meals are to suit. A buddy from Houma had suggested that I try this place one time when I went to Thibodaux but I didn't get the chance...Today (3/6/13) I got the chance and had a wonderful lunch with fellow Yelper Re H. The exterior is Old Town Thibodaux, right across from Lafourche Parish Courthouse...the interior was like a step back in time with the dark wood, tile floor and stamped tin ceilings...even with the dark wood the place was light & airy due to the number of those old school wide and tall windows...kinda reminded me of the saloon in the John Wayne movie "The Shootist"...if anybody still knows what movie that is, if not I suggest you watch it...one of the best Westerns ever!! Enjoyed the meal immensely...the bread for starters was delicious, flaky exterior but fluffy inside and so warm, the charbroiled oysters TASTY and the Ground Sirloin steak was cooked to perfection smothered in a delicious brown gravy with sliced mushrooms and onions on top. The fries that came with it were extra yummy coated in the extra gravy from the steak.... All in all, a great experience and a great meal...I will definitely be stopping in here again when in Thibodaux!! read more

Three of us had a very nice lunch. Cami was our server and was knowledgeable and efficient. We appreciated her suggestions: crabmeat appetizer, and duck gumbo. The gumbo was dense and dark and a taste treat. We also ordered the Fremin's salad with shrimp which was proclaimed a winner. My dining companions enjoyed seafood gumbo and half muffuletta as a lunch special. Bloody Mary's to start were spicy and garnished well. One of very few fine dining restaurants in Thibodaux, but this place is one thing...consistent...in a good way. We went here for Mother's Day and the service was good. We had the back room thanks to knowing someone associated with the restaurant. I got the filet for the main course which was good but also the lemon risotto was great. I definitely recommend it as a side item with your entree. We split desserts and got the canoli and the bread pudding. Both were cooked well and not dry as you would expect with bread pudding. If you're in Thibodaux and looking for a nice sit down meal, Fremin's doesn't disappoint. It's also a nice place to just go for Happy Hour in the bar area as well. read more

Was in from out of town and we really enjoyed this place. We started with the oysters both raw and grilled, and they were both good. Fremin's Restaurant: Superb Dining Experience Last night were trying to decide where to go for dinner (AJ is in Texas and Rachel was in the Parade, a good time for date night) Pearlette suggested Freeman's and I am glad that she did. We were seated and approached by our waiter, Matthew, I don't know if he was assigned our table but he asked if we didn't mind if he serves us, the politeness went a long way. We made our order and after a bit of a wait the charbroiled oysters arrived, they were worth the wait. Charbroiled oysters are usually in a little sauce and the oysters slightly moist a bit crisp, but these were in a hot overflowing butter, lemon and basil sauce. I was also a bit disappointed that there were only 6 shells but when I took the first bit the disappointment went away, there were two to three small to medium but very tasty oysters in each shell and the flavor was excellent. The treat was to taste the oyster, the sauce and the crispy cheese flavor at the same time, WOW! This was the best charbroiled oysters we have eaten. It was followed by the onion soup, proper flavor and temp upon arrival, again a hit. We shared the special, the Blackened Angus ribeye with Louisiana crawfish herb cream, if I had known the price I may have not selected this but I am so glad I didn't ask the price because it was truly worth it and much more. The photo shows my portion after the waiter so graciously divided it before serving it to us, I am glad we shared the calories because if we hadn't I would have eaten the entire meal (lol). The ribeye was perfectly cooked and was so tender that it could be cut with a fork, and flavorful beyond expectation. The crawfish herb cream was fantastic and it was difficult to decide if to eat it on the steak or separately. It was served with roasted broccoli with hollandaise sauce and almonds and caramelized onion mashed potatoes, both appropriate and complementary to the ribeye. This was so good I hesitated to drink anything because I didn't want to clear the taste from my palette. To add to the awesomeness of the meal when we ask what was available for desert, Matthew offered us the desert on the house because of the delay in service. It is one think to ask for a comp but to have it offered without asking shows great concern for customer satisfaction. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake, it also had pieces of cheese cake and Pearlette ordered the New York style cheese cake with raspberry sauce, both were fantastic. I must also say the ambiance was excellent as usual and even though we arrived after 9 and they close at 10 we were not rushed and the service was excellent. I must say that this was one of the best dining experience I have had and I have many dining experiences in my 55 years. read more

I've only ever been here for lunch but each and every time it has been very, very good. There is a nice variety of items on the menu and the seafood is always fresh and delish and a co-worker RAVES about the duck gumbo. The blue plate special is usually an excellent bargain - today was a baked potato that was loaded with crab meat, shrimp and crawfish tails topped with a bit of melted cheese and a small salad. The blue plate special comes with a dessert - (meh) - but it is an excellent value at $10.95. Our waitress was top notch, super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. She also kept on top of the drink service (tea and diet coke) and checked on our table a few times. They are also excellent for functions, have attended two large luncheons here and the food was well prepared and served hot (difficult with a large group, sometimes). The decor is much like a restaurant in the French Quarter - featuring dark wood and high ceilings, and a bit of a rustic flair. read more

If I worked in this area of the state more often, I'd probably be twenty pounds heavier and have a lot less money. This place is simply amazing. I get sent on assignment in this part of the state several times a year and will purposefully go out of my way to eat out at Fremin's every chance I get! I haven't found anywhere that comes close in this area of the state and I've tried a lot of the spots. This restaurant basically feels like someone took a great restaurant from New Orleans and placed it in downtown Thibodeaux. The great thing about it is if this restaurant was in New Orleans, the prices would be higher and the amount of food served would be smaller. This place serves bread and two types of butter with each meal. The flavors of the butter rotate and I've never had a bad batch. The food is excellent and portion sizes are generous, so don't order multiple courses unprepared like I did the first time. read more

This beautiful historic place is in downtown Thibodaux and offers an elegant dinner experience with the feel of the deep south. I had about 30 minutes to kill so I walked in and sat at the bar. This bar served more 'old fashions' that night than any other bar I have been to and not to the same person either. There were about 6 at the bar and the restaurant was packed. It was an early Wed. around 7 or so. Fremins is the 'brother' to Flanagans and even though the same Chef oversees both, the menus are different. The service is the same. Point on and attention to detail. Four of my friends arrive and we were taken to our table. It had been many years since I had seen them so we chatted for at least an hour before we even ordered. There was a small 3 piece band playing and my friend got up and sang a song and then we placed our order. I ordered the Flounder Roulade as did Chuck. Our three lovely dates, Rebecca, his wife, and my two friends, Nancy and Karrie ordered seperate dishes. Veal w/ sundried tomatoes and spinach, Shrimp and Artichoke pasta, and the Cream of Crabmeat soup. My fish had the most depth of any flounder dish I had ever tasted. Depth Pun intended on the Flounder. Nancy's Veal was out of this world. I didnt have a chance to taste the other two but their plates were empty and they said it was outstanding. It simply doesnt get anybetter than this. The Fremin Brothers have certainly created twooutstanding restaurants whith two seperate menus. Try them both and you will have a had time picking a favorite. My hat is off to the owners for giving Chef Kevin Templet the ability to be so creative. That is how classics are made. There will be at least one classic from Chef Templet. He has the vision and tastebuds to create the next South Louisiana and it will come from either one fo these two kitchens.. read more

Came here for a working lunch. The restaurant is quite lovely, both the exterior and interior. Even the bathrooms are adorable! We didn't need a reservation for a party of 5, which was nice. They weren't too busy, so the waitstaff wasn't too taxed when we were there. However, it was absolutely FREEZING! We asked if it could be made warmer and were told it couldn't. Our server did say he could turn off the fans, but he forgot to do so. 3/4 through our meal, and all of us were shivering despite wearing jackets/long sleeves! I got the chicken dish with veggies and sweet potato fries. It was pretty good, but the chicken was a bit undercooked in places. The fries were actually good as well.
