We actually live on the east side, but we usually end up going to 1921. We went to The Shack about a year ago and walked in the afternoon probably about 2 o'clock. There was four waitresses there and they seated us. Then they ended up just talking among themselves and we never got waited on. We waited there about 20 minutes at our table and ended up leaving. Well tonight, the same thing. I'm just not comfortable just letting this go. When they seated us, I actually had to ask them after 10 minutes of sitting there, if the waitress could come to our table, please. I always love the food at The Shack. Today we had some seafood gumbo and it was full of shrimp and crabmeat and delicious. We also had the fried whole flounder which was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of breading. Plus we got the boiled crawfish and shrimp. My favorite boiled crawfish in Houma is at The Shack. Spicy, but not too spicy. The Shack really does a great job with boiled seafood. read more

Went for lunch everything was seasoned perfectly. The charbroiled oysters were great. The crawfish was cooked perfectly the potatoes were a bit spicy for me but was still delicious. The sausage was a no for me and everyone in my group agreed. My mom got the shack jr. and it was amazing. The onion rings were the best with honey mustard. My sister had the boiled shrimp and she said they were delicious. Snow crab was a bit overcooked but were seasoned well. The price was right. Will definitely be back soon. read more

This spot was recommended by some family members so had to give it a try. First out the gate walk in, to a warm southern hospitality welcome, friendly, social, and respectful crew. Wait for about 010 mints (was packed) to be seated. Was seated about 5 mints later waitress came with menus and got our drinks. We ordered the "The Shack" with Crab soup, loveeeeeee the soup was spicy and deeeeishhhh, kinda too spicy for my wife, but she's sorta a baby when it corks to spicy stuff lol. I ordered 2Ib of crawfish, crawfish wasn't really that flavorful, and small to medium( beginning of the season), however the most disappointing part was the potatoes, they tasted as if they weren't boiled in anything, was expecting more. Overall we will return, and check it out again to give it another try. One more thing I forgot to mention, I'm not a fan of cheesecake by no means.... however the turtle cheesecake has change my opinion entirely 5/5 recommend trying! read more

While traveling the USA during Covid-19 times, we stopped to stay in Houma Louisiana for a few days. This restaurant was recommended to us by a local and I am so glad we went!!! Not sure why this place does not have more yelp reviews - it is so cute, the food is amazing and very affordable!!! The restaurant was packed, however, it was spaced out very nicely due to covid. Everyone was wearing masks and being respectful - we felt very safe the entire time. We got the big platter for two which included a side and all fried foods you could imagine - crab, shrimp, oysters, fries. It was very very good !!! Not too heavy for it being all fried. I was looking for my first craw fish meal while in Louisiana and I went here while doing some work training. They did have some (was just the start of the season Dec2017) so they were small but for a first timer, I was ok with that. I ordered 1lb of craw fish, 1/2 lb of potatoes, corn and sausage, with 2 beers and my total ticket was like $13.50. Girl working the bar was great, even showed me how to eat it proper like a local. I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant! One of the local scam artists (not affiliated with the restaurant) took us to the Shack restaurant. That's a whole different story but it doesn't have anything to do with the restaurant so i'll spare you the details. Lol Our server was pretty awesome. I wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out but I don't. Great service. The food was delicious. We ordered the Crawfish, Shrimp, and Crab broil. Very disappointed. Our first night in Houma and we were searching for something better than fast food. We had heard that The Shack was one of the better eateries in the area, so we were excited to try it. We ordered 4lbs of boiled shrimp and was surprised to see that at least 1/4 of that was shrimp heads with no bodies attached. The seafood gumbo was burnt and the the shrimp in that was inedible due to being so over cooked. Of all of that my biggest disappointment was dessert. I ordered bread pudding to go and when I opened the to go box, there was one piece in one and the other box contained tiny crumbled pieces, like "leftovers" or the last pieces in the pan. It was embarrassing to see. How could someone serve that? I paid for a dessert and felt that whoever put those pieces in as a full dessert had no regard for their job or for me as a paying customer. Had an unbelievably amazing meal at The Shack! Coming from New Orleans for a few-night reprieve and came here. Everything was delicious (gumbo was not as dark, thick or flavorful as I have had but nowhere can do EVERYTHING perfectly) and the service was impeccable. Chargrilled oysters were massive and so juicy, fried catfish was perfect and not greasy at all, fried oyster poboy was a hit, and probably the best cheesecake I've ever had. Rolled into town and hit up yelp for somewhere to eat per usual. The hotel was close to The Shack and the desk clerk recommended it so I hit them up. Walked in and took a seat at the bar. One of the girls took my drink order and brought me a menu. They had a great selection but when in Louisiana I get seafood. I was bummed they were out of raw oysters and crawfish but I went with the seafood platter. Fried shrimp, catfish, onion rings and a whole fried crab. Sausage gumbo came out first though and it was excellent. The platter came with fried oysters but I swapped that for more catfish because I only like them raw. Anyway the meal came out in short order and it was delicious. Everything was perfectly prepared and there was a lot of it, nearly too much and I'm a fat boy. Overall this is a good spot for legit seafood. The last two visits I had the chargrilled oysters. They're on the grill a little too long and most don't have any of the butter/sauce left when they hit the table so they come off a little dry. That won't stop us from going back next time though.
