The food this night was disappointing, soft shell crab platter 2 for $25 was very disappointing when i say baby crabs is what we were served was embarrassing. I have been to the restaurant every year for the last five years on a trip to Louisiana. This year, I was shocked to find out that there were at least 12 items on the menu that were not available. As I asked for several items, the waitress told me they were not available. I even asked for two double bourbons and she came out with an empty bottle saying she only had enough for one. To be honest, I was absolutely surprised as I normally love the restaurant. I ended up only eating the charbroiled oysters and drinking a beer. I'm not sure why they were out of so many items but my guess is the owner doesn't seem to care. The oysters were good, but not nearly as good as previous years. This dive is just so so. It's not horrible but it's not at the top of my list. The waitress was fabulous. She was helpful and moved all night as fast as her legs would carry her. We got oysters. Went here tonight because it was one to my hotel and had good reviews. I think I would have really liked it but at 6:30 they were out of almost everything I asked for... Gumbo? out Any soup? nope Roast Beef? Nah I decided on blackened redfish. Salad that comes with my meal? Nope. Out of lettuce. (Gave me a piece of corn instead) Blue Cheese dressing to dip my fries? No. Out of that too. I ended up with a bizarre meal without the things I wanted. On the plus side, server was friendly and blackened redfish was adequate (seasoning was not as strong as my liking. Loved this seafood spot and the team working was so personable! The quality of the seafood was beyond what I anticipated and the hospitality was just a sweet icing on the cake, I can understand why it's loved by my local family! The crabs and shrimp were cooked perfectly; full of flavor and extremely savory. This was my first experience with After the Boil Soup and I was not disappointed. It's a soup that is made up of the all the fixings from the bottom of a boil and they drop it in a creamy goodness of a concoction. Finger lickin' good!! The chargrilled oysters were also very good, I just have a personal preference of not having bread crumbs on top of it! Highly recommended and would absolutely keep coming back when we visit! Ate here 2 nights in a row while I was visiting with family in Houma. First night the food was wonderful. 2nd night, it was good flavor still, but shrimp was a little over done since it was the end of the night, would still go back though because the food and service is definitely worth it. Only suggestion is to not use mustard in the soft shell crab batter. read more

I was staying in Houma for a few days for work. The reviews here looked good and I was in the mood for boiled seafood. Tonight was my second attempt at eating at 1921. The first time they were closed due to a broken air conditioner. Fair enough. I went back a few days later and they were open. I sat myself and waited. Eventually my waitress got off her laptop and asked for my drink and appetizer. She came back with my unsweetened tea and said my fried pickles would be out in just a moment. She returned a minute later with my tea--which had turned sour. I waited. I'd finally made up my mind on four pounds of crawfish. I was going to ask for a Coke, because the tea was nasty. I never got the opportunity to taste anything. After what felt like 20 minutes of staring at the blonde hair on the back of her head, I got up to "go to the restroom"... and kept on walking. read more

Oyster on half shell were awesome! Fresh and salty. Had the Trash Basket. All fried seafood was great. Not fond of the catfish. Still had silver skin on some of the portions. It needs to be thinner filets for me. All in all pretty good. Definitely will return. Friendly staff. Perfect Cajun setting. read more

Came here twice during the Mardi Gras season. Both times were pleasant experiences. Both times our waitresses were attentive and friendly. This place, in my opinion, has the best raw oysters. The boiled crawfish were perfectly seasoned. The trash bin platter was enough for two people and heaped with delicious seafood. The ambiance was casual and laid back. It wasn't too crowded and not over priced. I wish I would have taken pictures to post but i was too busy dipping my oysters in the mix and before I knew it, they were in my belly. This restaurant was suggested by our B&B host and was only about a 5 minute drive away. It definitely looked like our style place- laid back. It was seat yourself, so we were able to sit next to one of the large aquariums to keep the kids occupied. They both got grilled cheese, which was actually delicious, buttery, and crispy. (I ended up stealing half of one of the sandwiches. LOL) We had both the raw and chargrilled oysters. Both were good. But holy smokes. $32 for a dozen???? They were good, but not that good. We also got the duck wontons which aren't on the menu, but were suggested by the waitress. They were okay. The filling was mostly a cream sauce with very little duck. They don't have beer on draft, only on bottle. And I'm pretty sure my gin and tonic didn't have gin in it (and I ordered a short, so I can't imagine how bland a tall would have been). We were on our way home to New Orleans on a Sunday night and decided to stop for a quick dinner. The restaurant was about 1/4 full. My friend and I sat down and ordered some oysters and mushrooms, and drinks. Those came in a timely manner and there was no problem with the service. The food was fine. But we waited an hour for our dinners. We asked the waitress and she said we would have to wait awhile longer. Then she said they were just starting to prepare our food (after more than an hour). She became rude to us. I told her how long we had been waiting and that we needed to get home so to please cancel our dinners and bring the check. She never apologized. She just set down the credit card machine, with a sticker that said "Trump 2024". When we left, she still didn't apologize, say thank you or even acknowledge us. It was a bad experience. read more

I was craving fresh oysters so I stopped by here thinking it can't go wrong if the place has oysters in the name. There was a sign saying to seat yourself so I did. Took a pretty long time for someone to notice I was there at all. The waitress was very friendly nice so that was the only good thing. The oysters came out quickly but were not sitting on ice at all, almost half of the dozen were not even cool to the touch. Me and my daughter split the fried alligator bites with a nacho cheese dip which was an odd combination and the alligator was chewy and not seasoned well. Not sure why it's served with a processed cheese dip because it surely doesn't compliment the alligator at all. The dirty platter (large seafood platter) was just ok. Everything lacked seasoning and the fried soft shell crabs were a big disappointment. For an appetizer and an entree which we split, and drinks we spent $52. I waited quite a while before I got a second drink.. no free refills. The waitresses were more interested in talking to each other than worried about the customers which I only saw 2 other tables in the whole place. I won't be returning here. Wonderful Going to New Orleans for Jazz Fest. My friend says to stop here on my way. I could have stayed, and just kept ordering stuff. I know the server did her part to get me to do just that. I just had crab cakes and the grilled oysters. Lots of crab, and little else made them great. The oysters were really good. They got just the right char so you got some smoke, and sprinkled with parm that got a little crispy. I have a habit of being real generous or real stingy with my ratings, but here is what gets 5 stars. It was clean, service was great, food was great. Hi, I went to 1921 with the family, and we had to wait to be seated and eat. Well I order about 6 pounds of crawfish. I ate them all, but I tasted that the crawfish didn't taste the same from the last time I went. Well when I finished eating I was okay, but when I got home I didn't feel really good from eating the crawfish. I was in the bathroom all night. I had to take some meds to get better. So I didn't feel really good, and from today I still don't feel good from last night. So I am giving this place one star. Because not only I got sick badly, but we had to wait 1 hour in line and the food wasn't good at all. read more

Surprised at all the off-the-charts revs... Oysters served room temperature, not very good or flavorful at all. The oysters were actually quite bad. My fish was over-cooked and dry. The young lady whom I was with had the crab, and remarked the same. We also had some shrimp, that were flavor-less. I have been here 3 or 4 times, every time was pretty mediocre. Though I was reluctant to write a review. I don't understand why there are not better seafood restaurants in Houma. You have to go to New Orleans, or someone's house. read more

Stopped by as it was recommended by a friend. Don't go there expecting much as far as decor. Very basic with food served in plastic baskets with paper liner, plastic utensils, and rolls of paper towels. Our waitress was not very accommodating and seemed to be in a rush and wasn't crowded. I had the white beans and fried shrimp, which were average. Needed salt and Tabasco. My wife had the blackened snapper with sweet potato fries. It wasn't blackened at all, not very well seasoned. We were somewhat dissatisfied but I gave it 2 stars because of low price. Will not return. Oh and the bathrooms are a hoot. They were labeled outboard and inboard. Go figure. Charbroiled oysters are really good here. The crayfish has good flavor, boiled correctly, but to make it even better they should sprinkle some crawfish boil seasoning on top for the extra flavor. Overall, I'm fan and will come back on the next visit. Cheers. read more

Drove here after it was recommended by a local. They were closed and had new summer hours listed on the door. Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 5:00-9:00. Friday and Saturday 5:00-10:00. Closed on Sunday and Monday's. Just wish they would update the hours here on Yelp. Hence the only three star review since we were unable to try anything. read more

This place has a laid-back seafood shack vibe, and our server, Peggy, was fun, cheerful, and attentive. We ordered char-grilled oysters, which were tasty. I've never had them before, so I don't know how they compare to others. My husband ordered the beef po boy, which was amazing! My gumbo and after the book soup were both thin and disappointing. I probably should not have came here because I am not much of a seafood person, but my coworkers wanted crawfish and so I tagged along. I ended up getting the crawfish etouffee and the shrimp tacos. I should have skipped the tacos and just had etouffee and gumbo! The best part of the meal was the buttery delicious bread. This place got three stars because the service was super weird. We all ordered at the same time, but things would come out at random times. Two people ordered raw oysters but they came out about 15 minutes apart. What a delightful experience! Let me start off by saying that if you're not familiar with the area and drive up, as we did, when it's dark out, you may be a bit unsure. I'm here to tell you that you should pack your skepticism away! It's a divey place with no frills, but such charm. Our waitress Nicole was probably the sweetest waitress I've ever had. Seriously. And it wasn't fake, annoying sweet, it was like, wow this girl is probably one of the nicest people I've ever met sort of thing. So genuine! Nicole took her time explaining the menu to us, answering a laundry list of questions, and was friendly without being overbearing and invasive. We started with 6 raw oysters and 6 charbroiled oysters. I don't event know how to describe either aside from saying, WOW! I feel like the fresh oysters were caught that day. They were huge and very flavorful. The charbroiled oysters, which I typically do not like, were incredible as well. The main dishes were alright -the shrimp boil actually wasn't that flavorful, but the service along with those oysters are enough for me to say without a doubt, that I'll be back next time I'm in the area! read more
