Wow Wee dipping sauces made right in Cut Off, LA.
Mike C.

Living in Southern Louisiana can often be a curse, especially if you are trying to eat healthy some of the time. More and more restaurants are adding healthy items to their menus, but these are more the exception rather than the rule. It had been nearly a decade since I travelled as far south as Port Fourchon and a lot has changed. But the one thing that has not changed is my appetite, as the 12 o clock rumble in my stomach was calling out to me. I was meeting a coworker in our Galliano office and he suggested that we eat at Rose's Cafe Inc. Not knowing the area at all, and he being a lifelong native of the Houma / Morgan City / Galliano areas, I trusted his opinion. The restaurant was in an unassuming metal structure. The inside was slightly dated, but not in a bad way at all. The restaurant had an open floor concept and was modestly decorated. The ceiling was sheathed in corrugated "tin" panels that added a rustic feel to the place and the home made lighting fixtures made of chicken wire wrapped in sheet metal even worked for me. The walls were covered from floor to ceiling in varnished horizontally arranged wooden plank panels, and there was a big screen LCD television in the front. There were approximately 20 tables with seating for 75-100 people and every table featured Cut Off's own "Wow Wee Dipping Sauces"; which I sampled just for the heck of it (pretty good stuff). There was a central bar for the wait staff to get sodas, tea or alcohol and there was a small but adequately stocked salad bar near the rear of the restaurant. Even though the salad bar was small, the ingredients and dressings were all fresh. Judging on how packed the restaurant was, it was obviously very popular with the locals. Trying to be somewhat responsible in my eating, I opted for the grilled shrimp salad. The salad had at least 2 dozen shrimp, a hard boiled egg, tomatoes and shredded cheese on top of a bed of shredded lettuce. I'm glad that I was able to pick any dressing I wanted from the salad bar, and chose a caesar style vinaigrette that looked and tasted home made to me. One of my co workers had an open faced roast beef sandwich that looked solid and the other had the bowl of gumbo, which I regret not ordering. The roux was very dark and it was chock full of meat. I didn't get a taste, but by the way he sopped up every drop of juice with his French bread, I knew it had to be good. Mental note to self to get the gumbo the next time I go. Our waitress was very nice and attentive and kept my iced tea glass full, even though she had several tables. The food came out quickly and was definitely fresh. I can definitely say that this place is worth trying. Can't wait to update my review with my next visit.

Being a local I come here often and I love the food here! Never had a complaint! Always pleased with the service and the food is always delicious!

Garlic twist potatoes!

Rose's was much better than I expected! The building's exterior really doesn't do the interior any justice. I think it was recently remodeled. Everything was clean and there was plenty of things to study on the wall while we waited for our food. I ordered a philly cheesesteak and paired it with sweet tea and twisted garlic potatoes...aka little bits of heaven. The philly was ok, but the garlic twist things were a standout. They also have daily plate lunch specials that include the salad bar. Our waitress was efficient and friendly, the food all came out at the same time and was hot and tasty. I'll be back to try the more traditional cajun items on the menu.

Rose's has some great food. Wait staff is great. The cooks here are local, so you get real Cajun food.

Some of the food is really good, but the chicken fried steak I got reminded me of school lunches and the gravy was very thin and watery.

Every once in a while I end up on Da Bayou when I visit my girlfriend. Yeah I realize my lady…read morefriend lives a freaking gazillion miles away. (That was kind of intentional at 1st, who knew my ass could commit....sorry off track) When I visit her it seems like good food options are kind of hard to come by. Well now I know where to get an excellent po-boy! This place reminds me of the time I spent living in the Midwest where every town has a "dairy". A dairy is kind of like a Dairy Queen except they usually don't have much of a name, serve soft serve ice cream, slushies, some pork tenderloin sandwiches, burgers, vanilla cokes, and the such. The Chill Out has the look of one of those dairies and also that of a snowball stand on steriods. The serve snowballs, ice cream and a ton of different variations of sundaes and such. They all have a pretty extensive menu of po-boys, soups, something called a roast beef sundae(I'm told it involved roast beef, gravy and mashed potatoes.) hot tamales, and other things as well. I was quite surprised at the flavor of the roast beef po-boy. It was pretty much all roast beef debris and a really good gravy. That is the way I like it. I would put this po-boy up against some of the best in Nola. Yeah it's Parkway and Bear's good! I also like the fact that they include pickles when you ask fot it dressed. Very few places do that these days. Great little gem on Da Bayou. It's only take-out which seems to be it's only downfall.

There's always new exciting things to try! Very welcoming customer service! A real taste of…read moreLouisiana!
