Stopped in yesterday (a Friday) because I had a fried chicken itch that needed scratching. And…read moreJo-Bob's was the solution! Really tasty batter; not too thick, but not tempura-like either. Just right: Crispy, thin, & tasty. Maybe a little corn meal in there? I dunno.... Side order of potato wedges were, um... "ok." Not something I'd make a special trip to go back for. Also grabbed an order of boudin balls. I'm a big fan of boudin and these were heavenly! Lightly battered with the same goop as the chicken, then fried until crispy, hot, steamy, and exploding with savory goodness. DELICIOUS! (So much so that now I'm thinking of going back for some RIGHT NOW!) Here's something that was weird: They have a few dozen different chicken menu options; dinners, platters, ala carte, etc... One menu offered "all-white" as an option. I asked the clerk if a two-piece was a wing and a breast, or what. She answered, "We only do all-white on Sundays because that's when we cook the breasts." Uh, ok... wait... what? I mentioned that the sign on the door (two signs, actually) said they are closed on Sundays. She replied that they were, in fact, open seven days a week. So I can't promise you that you can get white-meat fried chicken; I can't promise you can get it on Sunday. But I can promise you will love it because it's REALLY good!

5/5 -- A Ponchatoula Gem You Have to Try…read more If you ever find yourself anywhere near Ponchatoula, do yourself a favor and stop at Toula Burger on W Pine Street. I walked in expecting a good burger... I walked out questioning why every other burger in my life hasn't been held to this standard. From the jump, the vibe feels like what a small-town Louisiana burger spot should be: warm, welcoming, and buzzing with people who clearly know they're in for something special. You can tell the crew cares -- not just about making food, but about creating a place the community is proud of. I ordered the signature burger, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the kind of bite that makes you pause. Perfectly seasoned beef, cooked exactly how I asked, layered with toppings that taste thoughtfully chosen rather than thrown together. The bun held everything like a champ -- soft enough to enjoy, sturdy enough to keep the whole experience tidy. It's the little things, and they nail every one. The fries? Golden, salty, addictive. The kind of fries you keep eating even after you're full because "just one more" somehow becomes ten. What really stood out, though, was the service. Ponchatoula is known for its hospitality, but the folks at Toula Burger take it to another level. Genuine smiles, real conversations, and you can feel the pride they have in what they've built. It's refreshing. To the owners: Y'all created something special here. You've got a spot that feels rooted in community but tastes like it belongs on a national "must-try" list. I'd love to know more about the inspiration behind the menu -- especially what led you to craft a burger that balanced richness and freshness so perfectly. Keep doing what you're doing; the attention to detail shows. I'll absolutely be back -- and I'll be bringing people with me.

He is a burger aficionado. While the hand patted Burger is fantastic, my husband commented that every single time he has been there the fries are lukewarm. I opted for a hand battered shrimp Poboy. The batter was really good. Served freshly fried. If you're weird about veins in your shrimp, these are not deveined shrimp. The problem is that the bread to shrimp ratio is off. It's a really thick bread. The restaurant atmosphere is so quaint and homey. The staff was so friendly. I can chalk the bread thing up to personal preference but they need to do better with hot fries.

This place was super, super disappointing…read more The Mad Cow - Bun was so drenched in grease and sauce that it fell apart. Had to re-bun the burger to make it edible. Still really wasn't edible. I've honestly never had a smash burger THAT greasy before. They don't honor modifications so you'll be picking things off yourself. Really limp, sad bacon. It only tasted like banana peppers - and those weren't supposed to be there! The Goat - Waaaay way too sweet. Greasy as all get out. I can tell they were trying to copy Fat Cow, but it came up way too short. Fries - Both the truffle and seasoned were okay fries. Again, a touch too sweet. A lot of things here are sweet and it's kinda weird. A LOT of rosemary. This was the best part of lunch, but not good enough. Mac and Cheese - this was just Stouffer's in really small cup with some shredded cheese on top. Will not be back. Not when Riverside is right down the street. And a ton of better burger options in Baton Rouge.
