This location has a huge bakery with a large staff, and a larger selection of fresh pastries, cakes, pies, donuts, breads and all things carb-o-rific. I saw 4 different varieties of cheesecake that you could buy by the slice that almost made my inner fat boy cheat on his very lackluster diet efforts. I chose to keep walking past but I'm still regretting it. There is also a cafe inside with a nice salad bar and hot food selection that you can purchase by the pound and either eat it there at one of the many tables or take to go. The produce selection was pretty large and seemed to have a decent selection of organic veggies. The meat market was one of the other stars of this store. Butcher on site, huge bone briskets were in the pre-packaged case, large seafood selection and a cabinet with dry aged beef! The alcohol selection is also pretty impressive. A large variety of liquors and wine. The lady friend sent me in for a Malbec and there were at least 10-12 to choose from. The beer selection is really nice for such a small town. I'm not sure I've seen a bigger selection of singles in a grocery store setting before. My only issue is they didn't have any Ghost in the Machine this day. For the uninitiated: Tasso is fast-cured, seasoned, and smoked pork shoulder. It's used in stews and simmered foods, softening as it cooks, adding a delicious, unique flavor and bite that's typical of many Southern Louisiana (read: Cajun) dishes. Tasso's difficult to describe, but you'll know it when you taste it. I just received four 1-lb. packages of tasso, shipped from Bourgeois' smokehouse in Gray, LA via FedEx 2Day. The order arrived in good shape, and though the ice packs surrounding the meats had melted, the tasso was smoked (and so, fully-cooked) and it was vacuum-sealed. It went straight into my freezer, and it'll be fine. The cost to ship from Lafourche Parish to San Diego doubled the price of the product, from $7.24/lb to around $15, but I pay that much (or more) for quality steaks and seafood, here at home, and it was my choice to spend top-dollar for meat that I know, from experience, will make my gumbo, red beans, etc. taste better than I could otherwise make them. Kudos to the folks at Bourgeois Meat Market for offering a high-quality product, and for handling the purchase and shipping in a professional manner. I like visiting their shop when I'm in the area, but I LOVE that they don't make me get on a plane to eat what they're cookin'!

I wasted 20 minutes waiting for them to find the order just for them to say they can not make it. I spent all that time in there to leave empty handed without any help or apologies. I am very understanding of mistakes but for the staff to take no responsibility and let me leave with nothing to make up for it or put in any effort to make the order at all is not okay. They lost a big order because of this and all future orders from my business.

My wife and I have eaten there 4 times, and the food was so hot, I had to wait for it to cool down or it would have burned my mouth. They literally make the sandwich in front of you so you should expect and get a very hot fresh sandwich. On all 4 visits our orders were correct. On all my visits I ordered the Philly cheese sandwich which is one of the best I've ever tasted; that's why I've ordered the same thing every time so far. My wife has ordered different sandwiches, and she's never had a complaint. Give them a try and decide for yourself.
