We promptly greeted and seated and our server was at our table swiftly to welcome us and to offer us water as we looked over the menu. We opted for a couple of their Daily Lunch Specials and couldn't pass up trying the cracklin' biscuits since it was something we've never heard of or eaten. My BFF who literally hasn't eaten pork in yeeeaaarrrrssss couldn't pass up trying them when they hit the table because they look absolutely irresistible and the taste ... 10 out of 10! I would come back to Raleigh just for those biscuits! I had the steak sandwich for my entree which was flank steak with chimichurri on a toasted freshly baked roll and a side of collards ... both were AMAZINGLY flavorful and hit the spot on everything you'd want in a sandwich. This restaurant is so beautiful! The layout is absolutely beautiful with a airy feel no matter where you're seated. We came on a Friday afternoon and had some drinks and it was definitely getting busier as it got later. The staff was lovely and really took the time to explain the ingredients of each drink we ordered (we asked lol). The Botanist was delicious and donated $1 of each drink to the James Beard Foundation for Women's Leadership Program. My wife and I recently went here with friends when our lunch plans at another close by restaurant took a turn and we bailed on that place, because as the youths would say "the vibes were off". We did a quick yelp service for open brunch places in close walking distance and Whiskey Kitchen popped up. We had been to Whiskey Kitchen ages ago, but also just assumed it would be very crowded on a Sunday morning. Luckily it was a pretty child crowd and we were seated instantly. The server was ver attentive and we got our drink orders and food orders in right away. We shared some fries for the entire table. I got the brunch special of the biscuits and gravy with friend chicken, which was excellent. Biscuits and gravy and go either way, but Whiskey Kitchen knows how to serve up this dish and the addition of a perfectly cooked friend chicken breast was a perfect pairing. My wife got the grain bowl with shrimp since she's more health conscious minded. We both enjoyed our mocktails, my wife particularly enjoyed the hibiscus and ginger one. The server was very nice about not being pushy and trying to get us out there door, which is something that happens often as busy places in downtown Raleigh. We ended up here as a second choice when the first choice had too long of a wait. Thanks to Yelp, I could find a decent spot quickly! We were seated quickly but it took awhile before our server came to greet us and take our order. We almost left! I started with a cocktail, a Poinsettia. It was pretty tasty if you're cool with the flavor of lavender. Both of my sons and I ordered chicken sandwiches without pickles; they had fries and I had collard greens. It didn't take too long for the food to arrive and it was decent. Both sons and I remarked that it was basically a more expensive Chick Fil A sandwich. We all wished they had put a little more sauce on the sandwich. We all enjoyed the sides; the boys said the fries were better than the sandwich. My collards were surprisingly tender. I typically don't like the stalks but these were rendered down so much that they were tender enough for my picky palette. I love how you can make a reservation here! Such a great spot to eat at before attending a show at Red Hat. I really enjoyed the Berried Alive drink. The fried chicken sandwich and fries were good. It was super packed but our server did a great job checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. For some reason it was sooooo hot inside and they didn't have the doors rolled up. A surprising amount of scotch which is what I mostly drank. We did have some old fashions which were excellent. The charcuterie board appetizer, hummus, and brussel sprouts were amazing. Coming into Raleigh late just for a night I was looking for place that had a nice bar, good food and craft cocktails (not to mention whiskey forward) and Whiskey kitchen did not disappoint. I arrived right at about 10pm so there was a limited menu but still solid food options. I ordered buffalo wings , fries and collard greens per the recommendation of the great bartender. While waiting for my food I enjoyed an expertly prepared paper plane. My food came all at once and was hot delicious and well prepared. The chefs go the extra mile to create sauces from scratch including smoked ketchup which was a nice touch. Collards greens were actually some of the better collards I've had a restaurant and wings were nicely portioned. To finish off dinner I had a half pour of little book bourbon chapter 2 (can get half pours for any bourbon above $40). Overall I was impressed with the service and the food especially given the late night circumstances. Most of the whiskeys are commonly found but if you're looking for a place to have many options of whiskey maybe enjoy some flights and have solid food options this is your spot! We had heard good things about whiskey kitchen from locals and decided to check it out while we were in town. They have a large outdoor seating area and inside they have great seating including bar seating. For entrées we started with the boiled peanuts, which we really enjoyed and thought that the pickled pepper was a nice addition to it. I had the fried chicken sandwich with potato salad. Chicken was nice and crunchy love the soft bun that was on And even loved thebutter pickles. The potato salad was a perfect ball of rustic and traditional, but with a few little surprises. Very much what I was expecting and wanting. My husband opted for the barbecue pulled pork sandwich with the collard greens. The pork had really good flavor to it. He enjoyed the sauce, but could use a little more pork as there was still a good amount of bread when he got down to the end of his sandwich. We were told that Tuesday Thursday and Saturday were the best days to come because the collard greens were made by I believe her name is Miss. Mary. The greens had a sweet and spicy kick to them but we enjoyed them. They have multiple different whiskeys and bourbons on tap. I chose to stick with something. I knew the Jeffersons ocean voyage which came out to be around $17. My husband opted for the Penelope artifact which was around $14. One thing I would encourage others to consider is the prices of the pores are reflective of the fact that all of the liquor is state run. Beautiful place with a great atmosphere! Cocktails were great and the whisky list was good. We ordered a bunch of stuff and the stand out was the broccoli! Grain bowl was good too. But there were issues. The Brussels sprouts had an absolutely delicious sauce on them but they were undercooked and still hard in the middle. The cauliflower came out cold, not sure if they just didn't heat it up all the way or if it sat for too long not under a heat lamp. We got a side of pulled pork that was dry. WOW!! We were staying at a hotel a couple blocks away looking for a restaurant to sit outside. WE FOUND IT! !Excellent food and whiskey selection and the entire staff was super friendly and welcoming. Our server "Chris" who had only been there for 2 weeks was incredible! He already had a great knowledge of the menu and was super helpful. So.... our experience was so good we went back on the Sunday couple days later and not only was "Chris" there to serve us again but my companion had the most delicious burger either of us have ever had and it was a "lamb" burger! This is a great restaurant in downtown that pleasantly surprised me. The restaurant has such a lively atmosphere with a spacious inside as well as a big outdoor seating area making it perfect for any weather but especially summer days. I recommend making reservations because it was pretty busy when we went. Also since the restaurant is downtown, you have to find street parking. The service here was amazing. Good service is super memorable and is always a big reason I return to restaurants. Everyone was friendly, even the manager Riley who was so sweet and checked on us multiple times to make sure we had a great experience. We got the fried brussels with 2 lamb burgers. The fried brussels were a great appetizer and we enjoyed their unique ranch that came with it. I was told the crispy broccoli was another good appetizer choice so I would try that next time. Service was decent, nothing exceptional nor lousy. Let's get to the food, I ordered the friend chicken sandwich with collard greens, it was a really good sandwich and the collard green has a spicy kick to them. The size of the bowl of collard greens could have been bigger. Ok onto the salad... we also ordered the Spiced Honeycrisp Salad. Now for $13 you got lettuce with virtually no toppings and zero flavor. If you wanted protein, you're paying $7 more on top of the $13. The salad was a rip off and not good. I loved this place so much on the first day so I came back the next day and was not as impressed. The first day, I got a lamb burger with smoked fontina cheese, tomato, aioli, basil, mint, a brioche bun and a side of fries. The burger was perfect! The lamb was extremely well seasoned, juicy, and tender. Each bite had a lot of juice and it was complemented by the fresh veggies and herb. The bun was buttery and light which didn't take away from he burger. The next day, I came back for a smoked mozzarella salad and it was the saddest thing. The tomato's were pretty much frozen and half defrosted, the croutons were so soggy that I didn't;t not each them and there was hardly any vinaigrette which made the whole thing just tasteless. It looked like something was just thrown together with whatever's left and I'm not even being mean about that!
