Half price pours and craft cocktails with decent brands during happy hour? Color me impressed and happy I stumbled upon this place on a bit of a walk about in Downtown. The friendly barkeep gave me the rundown on what they had to offer, shared great stories about the cocktails and was happy to chat with me about whiskey wins and fails over the years, and our favorite pours as well. They have a nice selection here, unfortunately the pours of the better stuff are on the pricey side, as one may expect in a bar, but there are some deals to be found, like the $5 Buffalo trace store pick on happy hour, Highly recommend thumbing through the cocktail menu though. There are some great drinks there, many of which are half off at happy hour. I'd love to give this place 5's The drinks are great. The selection is great. The atmosphere is.. yes, great. You can have food delivered to you. How awesome is that. It's walking distance to all the really cool stuff in that area. What I did not like. At all. Was the wait. You have to go to the bar to order. No one comes to you. That's fine. But when you stand there without being acknowledged for 10-15 mins.... And then finally get to order. And that takes another 10-12 min!!! I could have two drinks in that time!!! And I'm a whiskey neat kinda girl. Simple. Get my whiskey/whisky and pour. Hand me the glass. I'm off to the races. We/I spent over half my time in line. Stopped in just to give this place a first visit try after the football game. Place was crazy busy but we were able to find a seat near the windows. Not sure if it's normal here, but there was no table service so all drinks needed to be ordered at the bar. Not a big issue, but when it was as busy as it was, finding a spot to order was the key. We enjoyed a couple of old fashions, which were well made to our liking. By the second drink, several departed and moved on, and seating opened up at the bar itself. Bar tenders were very knowledgeable about their craft and were quite friendly even with the overload of business when we walked in. Would come here again if nearby and wanting to sample some fine spirtits. Perhaps we may learn a thing or two. Blah. Dirty dive bar with self-involved bar tenders who can't be bothered. When there are only 3 couples at the bar, and one table filled, I shouldn't have to wave you down for a drink. My friends and I stopped in here for a drink last Friday night. Originally, we went to a neighboring bar, and decided we were looking for something a little more laid back. We walked into Whiskey Bar and the noise level in here was much more inviting for conversation than our first bar stop. There was I wouldn't call it a line as much as I would call it a big "blob" of people surrounding the bar. So rather than all of us fighting to get our drink orders in, we decided to just send one person up to get drinks, meanwhile the rest of us snagged a spot on their couches by the large garage doors at the front of the restaurant. This bar has a great mix of places to stand and mingle, as well as places to sit and sip. I was a big fan of the cozy couches up at the front of the bar - they are comfortable and allow you to see what all is going on (both inside and outside of the bar) without being right in the mix of things, and they are also far enough away from all the commotion to help you drown out all the noise in the bar. Our drinks were relatively cheap. I ordered a Moscow Mule (I didn't think too long about my drink order, otherwise I would have ordered a drink with Whiskey in it, oops), and it only cost $6.50! Well deserving of 5 stars for it's class, great drinks, prompt service, and cool vibe! I recommend this bar for folks who want a classy night out filled with yummy cocktails and good conversation. * Note - I wasn't here past 11pm, so I can't tell you what this place is like during the wee hours of the night. If you are looking for a whiskey, this place has loads of them. I tried their spicy blackberry concoction (I forget the name, but Jameson's was the base), as the bartender said it was the less sweet of their two spicy whiskey offerings. The spice was very nice, but it was still a little too sweet for me. It would be nice if they did some hand muddled spices rather than pouring in a syrup that is just a bit too sweet. Also, in retrospect I think the bartender should have offered up a rye as a substitute to give it a little more kick than a Jameson's (which is pretty light), even if there would have been an upcharge. My wife got the Rusty Nail, and that was actually pretty delish. I also liked that the Rusty Nail was served over a large ice orb, rather than a bunch cubes as was served in my drink. The whiskey sour was really good! That is the only good experience about this place. The cost of the drinks seemed excessive. We first got here and sat down, and our table was not clean. we had to remove all of the drink glasses, and the previous patrons glasses and garbage. Then I wiped down our table and let the bartender know that we ended up busing our own table. The bartender did not seem to care, and was dismissive, and, in fact, seemed annoyed that I would say such a thing about the poor service. As a local business owner, this is how I would go out of business as I treated my patrons with such disrespect. I have been in the Whiskey bar many times and have always enjoyed myself, they have always had a knowledgeable staff, however on 10/14/20 I did not have a good experience ! Bartender did not know how to make a drink, not not wash her hands after touching everything including my ice and condiments. Preached to me about a mask, ( I was the only person in the bar) and they chatted with a friend in the bar without a mask for several minutes. Never said a word !!! Look i know this is a tough time and I have been doing my part (I tip 30 to 40% because I know business is down and I appreciate the people that are trying to stay in business. Good whiskey, poor service. We had a similar experience as someone else who reviewed below. The ONE bartender (the girl with the long blonde hair) is the only one working the bar and it takes her forever to get your drink. She also made other people's drinks that ordered after us before ours, making it take 20 minutes to get a drink. She also was very uncool, not even asking what I'd like, just turning and staring at you like she was doing you a favor. And she refused to turn on the Thursday Night Football game on the small screen where we were sitting, putting some BS unimportant college game on instead. Let me start by saying this is my first time EVER leaving a bad review. I normally try to be positive about experiences but this was one of the worst nights of my life. I was home for the holidays and went out to get a drink with my brother. I came on a Sunday night and it was pretty empty. I live in Arkansas now so I have a license from there. When I showed the bouncer, he started examining it super closely and bending it back and forth. He started asking me questions like "why does it have this writing on it?" as if I'm the designer of drivers licenses. He told me to hold up a minute and went in to get a second opinion I assume, came back out, told me my ID was fake and that I could leave or they would call the cops. At this point - I'm just worried cause I need my drivers license to get on a plane to go back to Arkansas. I told him it's real, pulled up what an Arkansas license looks like, and my work bio that says I'm from Boise and work in Arkansas now. He wouldn't even listen so I just told him not to shred it and call the cops. The cops eventually came and gave their whole speech about how I could go to jail for providing false information blah blah blah. I just said to run whatever tests you need to run cause I need my drivers license. He ran it, and whaddya know, it's real. When he gave it back to me, the plastic on the front was all bubbled up and torn off from the bouncers and bartenders bending it back and forth. Then the bouncer goes "wow, I guess I was wrong." Yes...I know...that's what I tried to tell you before you rudely cut me off. An apology would've been nice. I get it. It's a college town. People are running around with fake IDs. But this bouncer was SO rude and completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun night out with my siblings who I never get to see. On top of that, I have to get a new drivers license now that the plastic is all damaged from them bending it back and forth. There's $50 out of my pocket for a bouncer ruining my ID. Once we got in, someone had thrown up all over the floor. Then I paid $10 for a drink that was probably two sips. And it took 15-20 minutes for the bartender to make two teeny tiny drinks. I was so looking forward to this place. If you're from out of state, prepare to bring a passport or something since these guys only know how to read Idaho licenses apparently. TL;DR - Came for drinks. Got the cops called on me for trying to legally get into a bar, a damaged ID courtesy of the bouncer, a floor covered in throw up, and overpriced sips of whiskey. Complete assholes. Ugh. You can do better. Please do better. read more

Cool building. Decent tasting cocktails. That's it. The worst part of coming here is that even on a Friday evening at 5:30 they only have one bartender! I've been here a few times over the past couple years and that's always the way it is. One bartender working and so it takes forever to get your order. Today the girl (with long blonde hair) was so uncool. We ordered three drinks and it took over 20 minutes to get them. She actually made drinks for other people who ordered after us before finishing our order! The other thing that stinks about this place (quite literally) is the fact that the front door is usually open and people stand right there and smoke cigarettes! Really cool and warm atmosphere. The whisky bar is designed to look like a lounge with the lighting for a more intimate conversation. There is a large menu of cocktails and many choices of top shelf whisky. There are some larger tables for sitting but overall it's mostly standing. I think with the devote and feel of the bar. It should have more seating. Even though the menu is large, I was not a big fan of the drinks. Some that seemed to be lighter in the menus description were very smokey and heavy, and others just tasted like straight whisky. Overall I didn't hate hanging out here with my co-workers but I'll probably suggest another bar next time. read more

Pretty cool place! I thought this place would be more my speed at about 4:00pm. At 7:30 it was a bit busy. Took almost 15 to 20 minutes to get a flight of whiskey. The bar tender was nice acknowledged us initially but then the 15 minute wait was a bit much. But the whiskey was good and the bar was cool. Whiskey selection in Idaho can be a tough thing, but this is perhaps the best selection I have seen in the state. After a nice Whiskey snob conversation with their bartender, Alex, I arranged a private flight tasting for myself and my dad. Alex produced a wide flavor profile of some great Premium whiskeys. But what my dad and I most appreciated, was the research he put into each tasting, including a document with critical impressions of each and a histories of the distilleries. This bar is amazing. I'm an avid bar hopper and just made it in here last week. I'm back already and have to say I'm here to stay. Bartenders are AMAZING they are kind, care and give a great atmosphere to the joint. The drinks are spot on A plus, I haven't had drinks this great anywhere in Boise let alone Idaho. Probably due to their awesome bartenders. Whiskey sour all day! The decorations and feel are everything you want in a good bar. Relaxing, clean and upbeat.
