Had such a great dinner on our first night in town that we went back for our second/last night. Tainer was our server both times & was very friendly and helpful. It was also great to see everyone that works there helping to serve the customers. The hostess would often bring waters to the tables, kitchen staff would bring out food and clear tables, and servers would help each other (Alex welcomed us bs k though he wasn't our server either time). But the best part is the food! It's a great menu and everything we had tasted fantastic, was abundant and prepared/served quickly. The goat cheese stuffed chile relleno (recommended by Tainer) was delicious and the plate was so pretty with all of the sauces. I had the carne assada burrito and it was loaded with tasty & tender steak. Most importantly places often use a lot of fillers but not here - tons of streak! Each was served with a plentiful and tasty side. On night two, we weren't as hungry, but thoroughly enjoyed sharing the chips with delicious salsa (a little spicy but smooth) and queso dip, the carne asada quesadilla (again a huge portion of steak) and chicken wings served with fries. Several really good sauces (we did buffalo and sweet chili) and the wings were very meaty. We had a few mixed drinks and beers which were all enjoyed. I'm surprised this dump has such a high rating. It's probably all bullshit--paid reviews. I had the "fortune" of visiting this "paradise." I haven't seen anything like it in a long time. This is my second time at this restaurant. The first time I truly did enjoy my visit (last fall), but this time we had a completely different experience leaving me wondering if I will return. Of course upon arrival there was a 15 minute wait, completely okay and we even got sat in 10 minutes, outside. They have nice water misters that help bring down the hot heat in the summer which I appreciate. I feel like the menu didn't have much for a "picky eater" which we had two in our party. They both got quesadillas, and they were flavorless, and really nothing special ($7 to add chicken was crazy to me). With the quesadilla, our server asked if we wanted rice and beans with it, seemed like it was included as a side, it wasn't. We ordered the whiptail burrito with no onions and when the order came out, onions. We told our server and although he told us to keep the plate (which we obviously didn't eat), he also charged us for an additional burrito. We also never received the rice and beans side. We were charged for things we didn't purchase unfortunately. I get accidents happen, but our server didn't even fix it, another server did. I do really appreciate this servers efforts to take time away from their own tables to help us. 3 stars because just not a great experience for us, but we did like the burrito and the sweet potato fries. Pet friendly patio with great views of Zion! We sat outdoors and our dog got so much attention. The food was pretty good, we got a few beers and I got the chicken sandwich on a bun and it was nice. Came here on a rainy Saturday night for dinner. The space is small inside so if the weather is poor, you will have to wait to be seated. I ordered the spaghetti squash goat cheese enchiladas. I thought they were just OK. It could've used a lot more filling for the price. I also tried one of the sweet pork tacos and that was definitely a better choice. Sprinklers to beat the heat, seasonal refreshing margaritas and stellar Mexican food craving? This is the place to be. Ambience: Set against the national park backdrop is this restaurant with an outdoor and indoor setup. Sprinklers to beat the heat made the outside seating very appealing. We sat there on a sunny afternoon after our narrows hike. Definitely a good decision as the ambience lifted us from the rather tiring day! Food: Our group ordered standard Mexican food - tacos and burritos - the tacos were great although I'd say pork, and shrimp burrito were more flavorful. The chicken felt a bit dry. You can substitute the beans and rice on the side for anything else. We ordered brussel sprouts, pico de gallo, sour cream and the brussel sprouts were baked to perfection - although the salt could have been more this was a quick fix and we found ourselves ordering another one! Oh and the crème brûlée was inhaled within a couple mins of arrival (hence the missing picture). Don't forget to order it for it has several ingredients that won't quite feel like they fit right (yes, it has habanero you heard that right!) hints of different flavors balanced it out to become the star of the meal! Service: The staff was friendly and helpful for our endless ambiguity on the substitutes to be resolved! Accommodating and lively, our staff helped us make choices we felt incapable of because of how tired we felt. Came here on our last day in Zion camp ground and decided to eat something different before we leave the next morning. Food was delicious and portion size were HUGE! Great to share and we had tons of left over. we got tacos, quesadilla, nachos, wings, and burrito. All were great and flavorful. I would recommended sitting outside as the view was absolutely breath taken. The whole time while waiting for our food, I just stared at the mountains and enjoy the view. Whiptail Grill is absolutely amazing Mexican food. My friends and I stopped here after a day of hitting the trails in Zion National Park. I was skeptical at first about eating at a Mexican restaurant in a small town outside a national park but Whiptail does not disappoint. We ordered the chips and guacamole and my friends and I devoured it. The quality of the guac was comparable to what I've had in Cabo. My friends all raves about their food. I ordered 1/2 Rack St. Louis Pork Ribs, which was literally finger licking good. The ribs were cooked to perfection and the sauce was mouth watering. I wanted to come here a second time while I was in Zion but my friends unfortunately wanted to try multiple restaurants. If you find yourself in Zion and are in dire need of delicious, nourishing food after a hard day on the trails, look no further than Whiptail Grill. The food is phenomenal and the craft beer plentiful. I will definitely be stopping by on my next trip to Zion National Park. read more

Whiptail Grill is a restaurant repurposed from an old gas station, which makes for a pretty unique ambiance. Right off the bat, the service was excellent. Our waiter was so nice, friendly, and was light-hearted and cracked jokes. He was also very quick with our drinks and food. The chips, salsa, and guacamole we ordered for the table tasted fresh. The guacamole was well flavored. Our main course was tasty as well. The chile relleno was especially unique with the Goat cheese but it worked very nicely with the dish. The burrito was packed with a juicy and smoky tasting carne asada with a cheesy sauce that coated the burrito. I fully recommend eating here when visiting Zion National Park. read more

(I'm never opposed to a doggy bag) The outdoor patio was pleasant and full. We enjoyed the activity of seeing hikers go by and families enjoying the area. Absolutely delicious Mexican grill located just outside Zion National Park! The restaurant itself is a converted gas station, with both indoor AND outside seating! The outside seating is covered and once you realize it was an old service station you see that the outside seating is where the pump stations were. Okay, now the food - you have to get chips, salsa, and of course, Guacamole! Freshly prepared, all of it, and perfect starter. I enjoyed and Chipotle Enchilada dish that was perfectly balanced and delicious, I was sad it was over! My wife enjoyed a burger, after killing off all the guac, and said it was amazing. The bacon Gouda burger was too well done. Dry and possibly pre-cooked. The lettuce was frost damaged (translucent and soggy) as was the pickle - so it ended up mushy. Couldn't really taste the pork/beef patty or the Gouda. Maybe we should have tried the "famous goat cheese chile relleno. I'd say food on par with a Denny's - but with better aesthetic. Bathrooms outside the building. They have WiFi, but it doesn't really work (can't successfully join or get a valid IP address). Service was friendly. Had an amazing time at Whiptail Grill and it was part because of the food and the other part because of great server Ludo. Do yourself the favor and check out their specials! We got both their specials for the day - Half Rack of Sweet Ribs and Fish Tacos. Both were amazing dishes! After a long tiring day of hiking this was the perfect meal to refuel for the day. Both came with a side of salad and you can choose the other sides - fries for ribs (the fries were great, perfectly crisp like those double cooked ones) and rice and beans for the fish tacos. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, was so flavorful and the tangy-pineapple bbq flavor shines thru. The fish tacos were fresh, generous and tasted great. Docked a star bec i had to return my tacos due to a tiny piece of hair mixed in with the cabbage slaw. But Ludo handled it so so well and with so much grace so can't hate on that. Will not deter me from coming back in the future. About 5mins from the gates of Zion NP, its super easy to find (along the road) but come early as it can get packed later in the day (there was a long line at 7.30pm on a Thurs evening). read more

The food here is so good! We found this spot while seeking sustenance after hiking in Zion. We got the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which had been delightfully prepared with habanero sauce and pork belly. 5/5 stars! We then got the pineapple porker sandwich with sweet potato fries. Perhaps the first restaurant you see after exiting Zion National Park, this charming reclaimed and renovated building was just what we needed. Their water was served a plenty and our waiter even brought pitchers. The portion sizes were huge but extremely affordable. Everything was fresh and tasty according to our entire table of 6. I wasn't feeling super great due to the heat but dang was this quesadilla one of the best I've had with the cheese also on top. Their chips were crispy but not over fried and the salsa had a nice kick. However, it was a bit warm in there still during our meal and it took quite a bit for us to be able to get our checks and pay when we were done. But it is definitely on our return list. read more

Solid quality ingredients in a mostly outdoor patio seating, right near the entrance of Zion National Park. Zion's park shuttle stops right outside too. I ordered the house salad and added carne asada, with an avocado lime vinaigrette dressing ($16). Just note service is at a relaxed pace since there's not that many servers available, so be patient and understanding (i.e. it took them about 20 minutes to bring out my order). Do not waste your time or money here. We ate lunch here today and it was horrible. First my chicken sandwich was so burnt I could only eat about half. Also I asked for mayonnaise and it came dry. My granddaughter asked for bacon on her burger and it came without it. All three of the girls asked for Ranch and got none. Whip Replacement After a long day of hiking The Narrows in Zion we were both exhausted, sore and hangry but decided to try our luck here at the Whiptail Grill. The Whiptail has been in operation outside of Zion since 2006 and is housed in a corner Texaco gas station that originally opened in 1965. They serve up what they qualify as "Mexican" food, but more closely resembles Tex-Mex. Not that there's anything wrong with Tex-Mex, in fact it's one of my favorite cuisines. The Good: *"Famous" Goat Cheese Chili Relleno certainly deserves the moniker as it's really packed with flavor, fried fresh and all the concomitant salsas were also impressive--esp the salsa verde. *Beef Tenderloin (i.e., Carne Asada) had good flavor but I wouldn't have minded a bit of a charred crust on it. *Sweet Potato fries were delicious. *Service was a bit slow at first but got better as the meal went on. *Prices are actually pretty reasonable for a restaurant just outside one of the busiest National Parks. But please notice we're from the SF Bay Area where paying $12-15 for a sammich is pretty standard. If you're an Okie from Muskogee then we might be singing a different tune. :) *Covid-friendly outdoor dining w/ spectacular views of Zion. The Meh: *Rice and beans were, well, rice and beans. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *Hostess was a little wenchy but that's SoP these days. The Ugly: *They only have ±20 parking spots (i.e., free) available in the front and the rear p-lots. This sounds like a lot but these places on "the strip" into Zion can get seriously cracking at certain times of the day. You might have to end up parking in the street (i.e., not free).
