This is my favorite chocolate store. I got the chocolate shell variety pack and some truffles. They normally have datil truffles every time I visit but did not have it this time. The store also has so many chocolate items and has tours too. It's a highlight of St Augustine! read more

We really enjoyed the tour and especially tasing the different chocolates. Wow, they are so good! I enjoyed the fact that we were in the actual factory and could see how and where the magic happens. The history was very interesting. Their chocolate is really top notch and I also enjoy the coffee they sell. One of the few chocolate flavored ground coffee that actually tastes like chocolate! Overall, it was worth the money and we all enjoyed the tour very much. Now when we go back to one of the shops we'll have a real insight into the process, including how fresh their products are. I had a great experience here as I'm visiting. My friend raves about this place so I had to check it out I know they do tours as well for a pretty cheap price I walked right in not busy at all for a weekend. We got a few chocolates to take home to family so many different flavor chocolates they have pretzels popcorn fudge and gelato. They make right there and then and much more it smells so good. It's a must visit place when you're in the area they also also give l samples. All the time. I also had to try the gelato for the first time there since they make it fresh I had mud slide so creamy and delicious. I would love to come back and try more flavors. I can go on and on. read more

Agree with the (many) reviews about the unfriendliness of the staff. I was organizing my sister's bachelorette party of 10, and unfortunately we had a really hard time getting Ubers from the rental house and half of our group ended up getting there 15 minutes late. I completely understand the need to get places on time, but we really did everything we could to mitigate the situation. One of the girls from the group that was on time told the hostess that half of us were on our way but would be 15 minutes late, and she was told not to worry and that it's totally fine. Upon arrival we were snapped at by the woman at the gift shop when we asked where to go for the tour. We then found the hostess, who told us we were too late for her to let us in. Upon reminding her of what she told the first half of our group, she said that she was told we were directly behind them and were just parking, not that we'd be 15 minutes late (we were in Ubers so would not have said anything about parking, and already knew how late we'd be so wouldn't have gained anything by lying about it). We then asked again if she could let us in since we paid already and really wanted to see the remaining 80% of the tour, and she said that the group would already be halfway through the factory at this point so she couldn't let us in. Continued to waste time going back and forth with this lady until we gave up and asked for a refund. She snapped at us saying there were no refunds. Somehow eventually convinced her to let us in, so she walked us maybe about 10 feet, opened 1 door, and our whole tour group was still sitting in the first room listening to how chocolate is made. So....not halfway through the factory. Our group said all we missed was the I Love Lucy clip of her eating chocolate and one sampling of fudge. Our tour guide was lovely and the chocolate was delicious, but the initial experience we had with not one, but two staff members really ruined it for us. read more

MAIL/ONLINE ORDER: Placed an online order and, unfortunately, all of the chocolate arrived melted. Obviously that's a risk when ordering chocolate online during the summer -- from Florida-- but I thought the $20 in shipping costs would have accounted for some safeguards against that. My order was also for across town, less than a day shipping. I imagine anything sent farther away would arrive completely melted. A very expensive lesson learned. read more

Joy the tour guide was an absolute joy & really enhanced the experience; however the elderly blonde checkout lady at the gelato counter had very poor communication & people skills. Chocolate tour?! Count me in. We were dropped off by the trolley and purchased a ticket for a tour. It's $8 a ticket for adults. We waited about 10 minutes; brought into a room where they showed us a clip about the history of the place. We got to sample a piece of fudge in this room. We had to put on hair masks for sanitary purposes. Then we went to a separate building next door and we watched another video. The tour guide was informative. The smell of the place was amazing. We tried a few more pieces of dark, white, milk chocolate, and cocoa nibs before heading to the next room. We went to the back where the factory was. He showed us the the machines they used and how the chocolates were made. We got to taste one of the chocolate orange shells; nicely wrapped and also delicious. I highly recommend this tour. Unfortunately, I wanted to buy some chocolate to go but it's August and we had to walk back, it would've melted. However, you can buy online and they will ship it to you! read more

While visiting St. Augustine with friends to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and their anniversary, my friend suggested doing the tour here. We booked it at a very reasonable price of $8 per person. The tour was fun and informative and our tour guide had a fun sense of humor. The facility is very clean and the company seems to take a lot of pride in the way they make their chocolate. It's impressive just seeing the volume of confections they produce. They mentioned the day before they had made 22,000 chocolate shells in six hours! I learned some things and of course we got to taste a variety of very delicious chocolate throughout the tour. At the end of the tour, you can visit the shop to take home some chocolates or buy some gelato. I tasted the dark chocolate gelato and it was heavenly! If you are a chocolate lover, you should definitely visit this place and partake in the tour! read more

We did a tour of the chocolate factory which was really neat. It was actually the second time that our immediate family went on the tour and my parents and sister and her family came this time. The tour guide started off not so friendly but ended up being a great tour guide. Neat to learn about the factory and how big it once was. How have we never done this tour before??? I would point and say- ooohhhh chocolate and John would meh. Another artisan chocolate store. EXCEPT- it's local, I believe the tour guide said they are the oldest chocolate shop in St Augustine and they make all their chocolates by hand and make sure inventory is fresh! We walked in and literally got the last two tickets for the last tour. You should book ahead online. We had to wait 30 minutes for the tour- but that was no problem considering we browsed the store. We were given a sheet telling us what samples we would be getting, a hair net (if you have a beard- you'll get a beard net) and a sticker showing that we were there for the tour. They are deadpan serious about the hair net and at one point will ask you to inspect those in your party to make sure everything is covered. My initial reaction to the tour guide was that she was gruff, abrupt and I didn't like it. I was thinking- this is not how you sell chocolates. John on the other hand loved her no nonsense, this is how it's going to roll attitude. By the end of the tour and after having several pieces of chocolate- I liked her better... maybe it was the chocolate. I learned so much about chocolate- I knew a little, but nothing like what I learned during this tour! The white chocolate isn't chocolate myth- or not depending on what it's made with! White chocolate is a thing, IF it uses only cocoa butter and no other oils in the process- it should have minimal ingredients. I love that all of their ingredients are what it should be. No chemicals, preservatives and nonsense. All natural ingredients! We started with a piece of maple walnut fudge and moved onto chocolates. Starting with delicious creamy milk chocolate, we went up the line with more cocoa and less of all the other ingredients! The darker the chocolate- the bigger the snap. Less liquid, more cocoa powder. The process these cocoa beans go through to even become a piece of chocolate is astounding. Whetstones get their cocoa from West Africa, and prices are by the ton. They have 4 chocolatiers and no warehouse to store chocolate- so the make on demand. The average chocolate we eat is 6 months to 2 years old- fyi, not here though! Something runs low- that's what they are making. I appreciate the handmade, locally made chocolates and I may end up back in this tour again in the future! read more

Super fun, and delicious, shop in St Augustine. We were walking by this shop on our way to a nearby destination and popped in to take a look. We've been to several sister locations before as well. Staff immediately greeted us and offered any help if needed. They have a cold case with chocolate delicacies and ice creams. There are also pre packed items for sale on the wall. I guarantee if you bring candy / chocolate home you'll be loved. My personal fave is truffle chocolates from the case. I'm obsessed with dark chocolate and this place delivers. They even have pre packed high percentage chocolates from global locations!! Check those out on the far wall to the right, at the end. Overall: A It's a chocolate shop. We actually came down to St. Augustine to look for a pet at the animal rescue but I got dejected when an older couple beat me to a sweet doggie I wanted to look at. It affected so bad as it was the 4th time someone got to one before we could. In an effort to cheer me up, my boyfriend decided that we should go on this tour because who doesn't like chocolate? We made it there just in time go on the last tour of the day. Our leader Erin was awesome. Before we went next door to the factory, he distributed hairnets and we first got to sample either some peanut butter or chocolate peanut butter fudge. Both were good as my boyfriend and I tried half of each others. We went next door and in another room we watched a video about the history of chocolate, how it's processed, and the history of Whetstone. We tasted the milk chocolate samples which were good but not my cup of cocoa (pun intended). Then came the factory tour. The factory itself was not that big but they did have a lot of machines that can kill you. It was pretty cool to see Erin use the wrapping machine so we could see it in action. We also got to taste some of the ones he wrapped which varied from krispie, orange, key lime, mint. After this we were taken back across the parking lot to the main building for the sales pitch, as what Erin called it. He went through everything they had. Currently for sale in the store. This is where we got to sample the dark chocolate flavors, which I really liked. Then the tour was over and we were released to the store. My boyfriend bought some truffles while I bought two bags of the dark chocolate and their chocolate amaretto liqueur sauce. That was dang good! The tour was well worth it and it cheered me up. We took a little day trip to St. Augustine and we decided to tour the Whetstone Chocolate Factory. The group was small and our leader was engaging. We started off learning about the cocoa bean and we saw how cocoa butter can be removed from it. A brief video on the story of chocolate" took us through the process of chocolate making and then we moved on to the factory itself where our guide described the functions of the heavy equipment and he offers us samples. Throughout the course of the tour, we tried milk chocolate, dark chocolate (47% and 72%), and white chocolate, as well as an artisan chocolate piece. At the conclusion of the tour, we decided to get drinks for our drive back. I tried the frozen hot chocolate, which was quite different from the famous one at Serendipity but still very good. We enjoyed the tour and it was fascinating to learn how many other companies use Whetstone's chocolate. Be sure to make a reservation online during busy times of the year for tourists! read more

We did not do the tour, we just went for the chocolate! We heard it was good so we stopped by one day after we hit the winery. It was closing time but they let us in anyway and we bought a bag of the mint shells and a couple chocolate bars. We figured that would "get us through the night." In all reality, it was just so we could have a taste. We figured we would stop again on our way out of town a couple days later. The chocolate they make is delicious. We loved the mint shells and the dark chocolate with almond bars. We also tried a variety pack of shells that include key lime, orange, toffee and mint. Each flavor is very good, but when we go back, I will be looking for more of the dark chocolate as that was my favorite. It is so smooth. We bought a couple gifts for friends and family. You can't go wrong with chocolates! We enjoyed our taste of St. Augustine and will be back again when we come back to this beautiful city. read more

Such an amazing place with an excellent history. This shop has connections to Disney, Hershey's, and Nestle. Online reservations are encouraged just in case. My tour guide Joe was very entertaining and engaging. He can clearly tell that he enjoys his job and is an excellent public speaker. What a lovely tour we had of this facility! We preordered our tickets online and arrived promptly before the tour started. We were given hairnets and also to be used for your beard if you had one to wear. We were greeted by our guide Mike? (Sorry forgot his name but he had glasses, beard) and was such a funny and friendly guide. We sat for about 15 minutes to watch a video to learn about the origins of chocolate before we were taken to the factory room where the chocolate was made. We were given 8-10 free samples of chocolate through the tour. All that we saw was clean and information so useful and also why this product is healthier than most other chocolates. Our guide answered all questions and more and made the tour very interesting to listen to. Tour was about 45 minutes and cost per person was about $8 but worth every penny...I highly recommend this tour to everyone! read more
