My family visited What the Pho on a Saturday morning, so business was slow, and we were eager to satisfy our Vietnamese cravings. As always, authentic flavors that my mom approves of (true to the original Bistro B branch), bold and colorful plating, and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere within. Food was great, as always. Unfortunately, there was a huge downfall. Now, I've worked service, so I'm generally really understanding towards my fellow blue collar laborers, but the service was unreasonably negligent. With slow business (maybe two other tables present that had already been serviced), there should have been almost no delay in responding to new customers, but we were left waiting without drinks or orders for a good while. Upon approaching the front and putting in our orders, our (pajama-clad) attendant asked us to repeat our order several times, while having Airpods in. It took us over twenty minutes for us to receive two orders. The drinks, somehow, came last, taking over thirty minutes for us to get, while we watched her make her own food, set it down at a lone table, and make (and drink) her own beverage before even making our drinks. We had to remind her several times. At different points, people from the back came out to help, but I suppose they forgot when requested for an extra bowl, but the bowls are right behind the counter and we did not get one and self serviced ourselves. Usually, service does not subtract from our experience, but I think this time, it actually did. This was apparent, not only to just us, but somebody who had ordered a ToGo meal as well. He had stood around waiting, and only got his bag after they checked the back, and eventually realized that the bag had already been packed and left on the rack. The convenience food that you actually want. Located right inside 99 Ranch, this spot has the full Viet restaurant menu, from pho, vermicelli, rice plates and more. Even better they run the same deals as Bistro B: cheap egg rolls, buy two get one free bahn mi (it's actually BOGO right now but now sure how long that'll last), and I'm not certain if they do buy two get one for pho. I will say that the prices might be slightly higher than other Viet places around but being able to do your grocery shopping right there makes it worth it in my opinion. They even let you order ahead so occasionally I'll pick up a bunch of bahn mi, with discount of course. If you want something different from the norm, though, I suggest their garlic chicken wings on the appetizer menu. They're huge and fried fresh, this means it takes a while (~20 mins) but are worth the wait if you have the time. They have a really big and authentic menu! Literally so many items to choose from. There are so many good drink and food, selections, and everything that I've ordered has been really good so far. Reasonably priced especially for the amount of food they give you. Fresh smoothies and very big portions. Service is always good and attentive and restaurant is always clean. You can tell they take pride in the dishes that come out bc everything is fresh and plated well. They use the good sonic ice to serve with the water and add a cucumber to keep it refreshing. They also bring the water out in a jug so you don't have to wait on refills. I have also ordered delivery on several occasions and they always pack everything really well. Of course I enjoy the food at the restaurant more because it's freshly made but they do really good for to-go orders. I am excited to see that they have party trays and can't wait to order those in the future. Their bun rieu is always a 10/10 with really good crab balls. Hard to find places that make this dish well! I was blown away by what I believe is the most exceptional bowl of bun bo hue that I've tasted so far in the whole of Dallas, and I've tasted quite a few BBH in the area. It doesn't come with blood cubes, but the soup tasted simply perfect to me. There were at least 2 different kinds of hams used and they are really tasty. I love What The Pho for various reasons: it's cheap, convenient, has a wide variety, and tastes pretty good. The restaurant sits inside of Ranch 99 Supermarket and makes a great pit stop whether you're hungry while shopping or are in the area. I've never personally ordered the pho here but I can vouch that their Steamed Chicken with Flavor Rice Dipping Ginger Sauce and Banh Mi's are great! Banh Mi's are BOGO which is a steal. I believe they also have buy 2 get 1 free boba teas and they are HUGE. Staff is always friendly and service is great as well. To-go orders are usually out within 10-15 minutes. The restaurant is very flashy with colors and you really get the Vietnam feel. Housed inside the 99 Ranch market in the Richardson area, this place is our last stopping point where we get our valuable Asian grocery before heading home to NWA when we make our food run in Texas. Hallelujah for no food tax and lots of Asian food supplies. 99 Ranch is a wonder by itself, but the topic here is What the Pho. We never really tried any Pho here, but we frequent this place because of their super cheap Banh Mi. I would say that it is not the greatest in the world, but for buy 1 take 1, or as they call it nowadays, BOGO, we usually get 30 sandwiches so that we can bring it home and give it away. We can feel so generous and gain lots of favor for cheap! That we, we can feel like Oprah as we shout "You get a sandwich" over and over again. The Banh Mi is good. It has all the basic elements, liver pate, cold cuts, fresh veggies, pickled carrots, and the French bread. It does not really standout. Frankly, Banh Mi for me all starting to taste the same. So, if you have a craving while shopping, might as well get it from this place to save you some trouble of going elsewhere.. But, what I have to commend them are their Boba shakes. They are a little on the sweet side, but their fruit shakes contains real fruit. You can really taste the fruit. I am not sure if the add powder flavoring, but I am really convinced that they use of real fruit. So, every time we are here, we get some Boba to go so that we have some refreshing drink as we drive home. My only complain though is their unusual, not to standard, large cup. It does not fit on the cup holder in my car. So, it could be dangerous when I put this cold drink between my legs while driving. What the Pho is a very convenient place use to get cheap Banh Mi and drinks before driving back home to NWA. My beef combo pho (#36) was really good. The brisket was probably the best brisket I've had in a pho in a very long time and they give you plenty of meatballs, tripe, tendon and all of the other yummy things. The best thing was probably the pork spring rolls (non-fried). Huge strips of pork and they even put in some of the fried wonton wrappers in the middle to give it a nice, little crunch with each bite. My bro ordered the beef stew noodles, which looked good (see pic) but he said the beef and carrots were tough. Where the food is a 4 for me, the atmosphere brings it down to a 3. The music was super loud, playing random pop music at such a high volume that it was hard for me to hear what my family was saying. The colored disco ball things and the fact the tv was on and the extremely bright colored walls made me feel like I was in a bad dream. But the biggest thing was that it didn't feel clean. I've eaten at What The Pho when they used to be in 99 ranch and I've ordered delivery in plano/murphy countless times. I'm usually too lazy to write reviews but they've literally never did me dirty when i order delivery from them. Their bun rieu is THE best I've had in viet restaurants cuz usually others miss the mark n the broth tends to be a bit bland but WTP's bun rieu is hands down the best for me altho i think they just took it down from ubereats. Love their banh khot but it's just similar to banh xeo anyway so I'd rather order that. Their bun cha hanoi is sooo good, i do add a little of the pho beef broth to the sauce and it goes well together too. Their banh mi selection isnt as wide in variety as when they used to be at 99 ranch but still better than the banh mis around. When u judge pho, u judge the broth. Their pho broth is amazingly seasoned even with no hoisin or sriracha. I used to be a bit skeptical of the authenticity in taste from the punny name but u def should take this place serious bc everything I've tried here has always been delicious. You would think delivering would lose some points in taste but nope, it's always been good--if its not hot enough to cook the noodles then i would just heat the soup broth until boiling. They had this drink here called "Refreshing Drink" and my god was it the best drink I've ever had. My heart dropped when the only plug for refreshing drink that I knew of closed down.
